SALEM LEE
Birthdate : March 25th, 2041
Residence : Christchurch, NZ
Blood-status : Half-blood
Education : HNZ Gryffindor, Class of '60
Wand : Curly 15 Inch Flexible Chestnut Wand with Phoenix Tail Feather Core
CORE : Phoenix tail feathers are not easy to come by. The animal is known for its versatility, making wands with this core useful for wand casters who seek to become good with different types of magic.
WOOD : 'Chestnut Drones' says the old poem - but Chestnut most commonly takes on the attributes of the core that it holds within it - though it may have a unique attraction to those wizards and witches who excel in herbology, taming beasts and flying.
____
APPEARANCE
Play by : Tina Jittaleela
Hair : Dark and straight with a tendency to grow long in the back
Eyes : Dark Brown
Height/Build : Average, athletic
Style : Salem tends to dress fairly androgynous, favouring clothes with a boxier or bulkier silhouette
Distinguishing Features : Salem has her ears pierced, though she rarely wears earrings outside of her plain black ones
____
PERSONALITY
Tomboy | Energetic | Flighty | Stubborn | Earnest
Salem grew up a very open child, she doesn't have much of a concept of deceit or a fear of failure and is a vibrant and energetic kid. While open minded, she does struggle a lot when expectations are placed on her without her control, and finds difficulty in defining what she really wants long term. Salem is far more focused on short term goals and her own flights of fancy.
While she's previously led a life a lacking in structure, Salem is now struggling to settle into a more set routine, unsure how to function within the confines of school and daily life. Used to the more flexible nature of her life travelling with her parents, Salem can be quite stubborn when things move in a direction she isn't comfortable with. Conversely, when in charge of her own time, Salem is very non-committal about what activities to pursue, often jumping from task to task as she sees fit. This leads Salem to being something of a jack-of-all trades, she struggles to excel in anything particular.
Not particularly book smart, Salem favours more active or outdoor activities and craves new experiences. With her mothers travelling a lot, she is used to having a new city or culture always on the horizon to explore and looks to fill the void with other new experiences when possible. Salem is also keen to share her hobbies and experiences with others, not shying away from expressing the things she enjoys.
Strengths : Honest, Athletic, Open-Minded
Weaknesses : Non-committal, Gullible, Ungrounded
Likes : Travelling, Rock Collecting, Flower Pressing, Trying New Food
Dislikes : Being stationary, Uncertainty

FAMILY + HISTORY
Coming from a very strict and traditional family, Salem's mother Hye-Jin was determined to break away from them as soon as she was able, leaving them and their high expectations as soon as she was old enough to travel and explore. An artist at heart, Hye-Jin easily fell in love with the vibrant world around her, and eventually in love with Preeda, Salem's other mother, when the pair met in Thailand. Together, they raised Salem as differently from Hye-Jin's restrictive upbringing as possible. Rarely staying put for too long and with little expectations or structure for Salem's early childhood, they travelled expansively, bringing young Salem along to experience the world with little restriction.
Near the end of 2051, Salem's grandmother passed away, causing Salem and her mothers to travel to New Zealand for her funeral and to reconnect with the rest of the estranged Lee family. Spurred by the loss, Salem's parents decided to stay in New Zealand and set down roots, afraid of missing out on what family they had left after her grandmother's loss. Salem's not sure how she feels about this, but she's willing to give the new circumstances a go.
