Simon is generally self centered and only looks out for himself. He cares very much about keeping up appearances and making sure others view him in a very specific way. He likes to keep himself emotionally distant from others in an attempt to make it harder for them to see him and who he is clearly. He is very focused on doing what others expect of him and always appearing to have it all together. But since transferring schools he is finding that less and less important to him to pretend to be this person. He struggles with his grades and he is very self conscious about it, especially now with his sister in school and her tendency to effortlessly get good grades. He feels very lonely most of the time, especially at a new school. Simon has made a few connections at Hogwarts New Zealand, but no one has yet to really get past his air of disinterest and really get to know him.

Simon's family comes from a prominent line of wizards with old money and a lot of connections. But after his father made some bad business decisions they were forced to leave England and start a new life New Zealand if they wanted to keep even a shred of their family's reputation in tact. Simon has never really had a good relationship with his parents, especially his father who is distant and hard to please. His mother, while kind, has a history of being generally disinterested in her children's lives. He isn't close or particularly fond of his siblings either. He doesn't like to spend time with Delilah because he finds the way she looks up to him to be annoying and he envies the way she seems to easily live up to their parent's expectations while he always seems to fail. Then there is Caleb, who he resents for being the baby of the family and the who always gets away with everything and has to deal with none of the pressure from their parents.
