Open Y37 Start Of Year Feast!

Minnie had spent the whole train ride ignoring the people who’d joined her compartment and just revising, reading and going over things even though the semester hadn’t started and she certainly didn’t need to be doing that but she also had to. Her parents were so disappointed in her lack of prefect status and she just had to show them by doing that she did care about what they wanted for her. She had to break up with Noel, she needed to find what she could’ve done and she needed her quidditch team to win. She just needed so much unfortunately and there was only so much of that that could be based on skill. The teen had a book on her knees and was vaguely reading as the headmistress gave them the usual information on what behaviour was expected and then the food appear. Minnie moved the book to be on the table and was rather slow at getting herself food and actually eating it, always distracted by just finishing the bit of book she was on.

Leia was looking forward to this year, if only because she deeply desire the opportunity to improve on everything she had done in the last semester. She had pulled up her grades and managed to win the duelling thing for her year group. She hoped to do the same, and just continue to do well. She wouldn’t be interested in doing work like accio and the thought of having to work in a coffee shop entirely grossed Leia out so she had to find her own thing to be good at which she hoped would be duelling. She was sitting in amongst the rest of the slytherins, noting that she could spot Maj or Luxen in the crowd, frustratingly. Her two friends had upped and left it seemed or just weren’t as visible to her, which felt even more annoying. She was so focused on seeing if she was just missing them at the tables that she barely listened to what the headmistress said and was only snapped out of it as the food appeared. She could look for them later.

Daintree’s break had been interesting, he’d spent most of it with Jenna, and that had been good, but he just wasn’t sure what he wanted from it. He knew that him being in relationships made him seem older and mature but he wasn’t sure what else he was getting from it. The teen liked Jenna, she was nice and a good girlfriend but time would tell if they lasted and he wasn’t sure he was falling for her in any meaningful way. He had spent most of his break with her and the rest at home. He’d been reading over some books he’d bought about magical careers but it hadn’t helped him. Playing quidditch seemed like an easy move but he also wasn’t sure he was keen on it. Sports were were school unless you were exceedingly talented. Daintree had come no closer to a decision on the matter. But he had time. After his OWLs he could consider it. The headmisstress spoke and the food appeared and he was careful to start eating and hope there would be no food fight or slime.

Ajaccio was feeling increasingly tired. He’d been quick to step out of the room quickly before things had gotten underway and gone to a nearby bathroom to clean up before the feast. Ajaccio was now just still feeling gross but mostly just increasingly tired. He loved the sorting ceremony usually but this one had felt like it had gone on forever. Just never ending people to be sorted and it was just leaving him tired. He was pleased that the headmistress didn’t waste too much time and the food was very quickly in front of him. Though tired, the food awoke him slightly and he began eating all of the different things he hadn’t seen on his travels. It was perhaps a bit that he was just hungry, but he was still tired and he knew he’d just sleep exceedingly well after this meal. That was a good thing too.

Padme had worked right up until she had to get the train. It was a bit silly but she liked working. She thought it fun and enjoyable. She didn’t mind the long shifts, the way the coffee caked her nails or the way that she would sometimes get exceedingly rude customers. She didn’t mind that, because it was super all worth it to her. She would miss it over the next few months and she’d miss working with the owner who was cool and chill. She was hopeful this year would bring her slightly more, that she would enjoy more about this year and be able to have more fun but she also knew she wasn’t particularly fun and she knew that she didn’t often manage to have fun. Padme looked to the headmistress as she just finished speaking and then allowed them to all get started on the food, which she needed no further prompting to do so.

Kiara was extra excited about watching Sorting and not only that, there were so much amazing things she wanted to look at. Also she was a little bit confused about headmistress monologue and that fact that she said that house elves aren't slaves, who uses them as a slaves at school? She felt weird even about thinking that but still that didn't take off her excitment. And of course, she was happy about food, she already loved Hogwarts!

Emma had enjoyed the sorting ceremony, struck by how tiny the first years seemed to be this year. She was excited about this year, as she knew this would be the year she made it to the Quidditch team. Things were looking up for her, and she was eager to get started. The only thing she didn't look forward to were her lessons, but she could ignore that for now. Once the food appeared after Professor Alicastell's boring speech, Emma dug in eagerly. She ate quickly, mostly listening to the conversation around her for now. Once she had eaten enough she would chat more, but she had remembered how things had ended last year and wasn't going to let her food to go to waste.

Lysander had enjoyed watching the sorting hat place the first years, trying to guess who might end up in Gryffindor before they were seated. The ceremony was one of the most fun parts of the first night back, and every year it felt more and more strange to realise how much time had passed since he'd been a first-year, in the exact same position. He helped himself to a plate of food once the headmistress had finished her speech and the feast had officially begun, being quick about it in case they had a repeat of the previous year. "Is he one of yours?" Sander asked, nudging Chloe and pointing out one of the new Gryffindors with her surname. He didn't know much about her family, though he felt some measure of bitterness towards Paige, after she'd cost Gryffindor a victory the previous year. He only had his sister at the school, so having other relatives be sorted wasn't something he was used to himself, so he could only ever hear about what it was like from other people.
@Chloe Thompson

Eric hated these feasts, though he supposed the food was at least one good thing. He just wish it didn't come with a boring speech and overcrowded benches at the table. He hated being with all the Gryffindors at once, because of most of them were obnoxious. He scowled at everyone sitting nearby as he started shoveling food into his mouth. Though he occasionally glanced at the Slytherin table where Nicole was sitting. She had asked him out on the train, and he still felt a little strange about it. He wondered if he was supposed to make a move next, or if she was going to decide what the date was going to be.

Chloë had been pretty busy stuffing her face when Lysander nudged her, looking up to see who he was pointing out although by the question he asked she figured she didn't even have to look. She nodded at him before swallowing her bite so she could answer him. "Yeah," She chuckled at his words as she looked over at Isaiah who looked content at the gryffindor table so far. "One of my cousins." She added with a little smile, although she secretly wondered how long it would take for him to do something stupid that would get himself into trouble. Could be days, could be hours, who knew. "The one who got sorted into Hufflepuff as well, that's Paige's sister." Chloë decided to add as she nodded towards the hufflepuff table where her other cousin was sitting, although she was still careful to mention Paige's name around any of her friends that were on the quidditch team with her or who knew how mean her cousin had been before that. @Lysander Summers

Tyler hadn't been surprised to see that Salem had ended up in Gryffindor, and was kind of glad she was at a different table than him. If he cast any glances her way during the feast it was just to make sure she wasn't embarrassing him, it wasn't like he cared how she was doing in her new house. Salem would be fine, she seemed like the type of person who could make friends anywhere. Tyler couldn't really relate, it took a lot more calculation on his part. He was sitting near Simon and that was enough for now. He was aware of his co-leader of SDA at the table too, but was definitely ignoring her.

Pixie had been sorted into Hufflepuff - whatever that meant - and she was feeling very quickly as students took the seat around her and the room cheered so loudly. But nothing happened for a moment and then the headmistress spoke. Introducing the heads of houses and then these things call house elves...and then the food appeared. All around conversation broke out and Pixie was immediately not hungry. She did not like this at all. She was too close to the front of the room though. But after trying to take a bite of something she knew she had to just go. So she just quickly got to her feet and headed out of the room. Unkeen to let any one stop her and not looking back once, she had snacks in her bag that would be better. They would be better than being overwhelmed in that great hall.

Ruben was sitting in the Slytherin table, his place at the table was a different one this year, not so close to the edge as those were now reserved for the upcoming first years. The second year boy hoped that the new Slytherins weren't too disappointed with their house, they would eventually see that Slytherin isn't as bad as they think.
The second year Slytherin boy was sitting beside his sister, she had abandoned him on the train but now she was with him again. Ruben had to be honest, he had several friends but not many of them were Slytherins a thing that Ruben wanted to fix this year. The Headmistress did her speech, basically the same thing as last year and before he knew it they were allowed to eat.

Catherine had been visiting Hogwarts more and more recently, peeking in a few times over break. But now the students were back, and the urge to go to the start of year feast had been big. It was familiar, a lot like her own time at Hogwarts had been when she had been alive. The students looked different and acted a lot less proper, but the excitement in the air and the sorting ceremony were certainly familiar. She hovered near the Hufflepuff table, which was so like the table she had used to sit at in Hogwarts in Scotland, and watched the festivities. After the headmistress had finished speaking, the kids started to eat the food. Catherine felt a pang of sadness, missing the taste of food. But the joy in the air was mostly making her happy, and she was content to watch everything unfold.

Hunter was clapping along with everyone else celebrating the end of the sorting ceremony. It might have been the Hufflepuff boy's impression but this year the number of kids being sorted seemed a lot more than last year, or maybe being a part of that group makes it look smaller.
Hunter was starting to eat when he spotted Vex, the school's poltergeist. He hoped he did something to cheer up this feast, maybe he would start another food fight last year. Whatever it was Hunter hoped that it was big and chaotic.

Beckett couldn't wait to get this over with. This was all fun and games but he had work to do, books to read, notes to take and just thinking that after thishe would probably have house meeting made him even more frustrated and impatient to get out of there.
If he was being logic he did actually need to eat, if he was to pull an all nighter studying so he could be ahead of everyone else he would need the energy but he wasn't sure if pulling an all nighter was wise, not to mention that his roommates probably wouldn't like that, because Beckett would need a light to read and study and even using Lumos the light was still pretty strong. He decided to eat, go to the common room and decided what he would be doing during the meeting.

Nope. Nope. Nope. Hezekiah had spent a long time deciding what to wear tonight. He went with silver robes and regular boots (boo!) Last year's feast was a mess, and one could never be too conscious. As soon as the food appeared, he hurriedly grabbed whatever he could, avoiding any meat, and covered himself with a shield charm. He sighed comfortably knowing his clothes were safe.

Blake was extremely excited to see all the new kids joining Gryffindor, they were just all so adorable she just wanted to squeeze their cheeks. She hoped that these new kids worked hard, Gryffindor needed to win the house cup again this year and hopefully the Quidditch cup too.
This feast was just what she needed to catch up with her roomies and tell them everything she did on her break and also know what they did. Blake glanced at Harper, they had something they should talk about but there was too many people and she figured she would talk to her in a more private moment or maybe even just send her an owl. Her eyes couldn't help but gaze someone else after, someone who was a bit more down the table and looked as dreamy as ever.

Veronica was sitting next to her brother, she had another friends there too or at least she thought she did. Veronica considered Liusaidh a friend of hers, even though they didn't talk much and Brooke and Leia were a bit more like acquaintances but still seemed cool.
She was not very hungry at the moment but her brother seemed to be hungry enough for both, she guessed that if she got hungry later she would sneak into the kitchens and make herself a midnight snack. One thing that took over most of her mind as soon as she got to Hogwarts were Professor Styx's conditions last year and the more time that passed the more she realised they were actually impossible to achieve.

Aaliyah couldn't help but be a little surprised to see his brother sorted into Gryffindor, she always thought that because of his friendly and social nature he would be a great Hufflepuff but she guessed that the sorting hat had seen other qualities in him. Gryffindor also suited him, there was some recklessness in Noah's personality, some bravery, not being afraid to be him without fearing others' opinions on him.
Once the sorting ceremony ended they started eating and Aaliyah wondered if she would be able to talk to her brother. Give him some advice, know how he feels about Gryffindor and tell him to behave now that their parents weren't there to watch over them and because of that, in a way, she was responsible for him and to get him home safe and in one piece at the end of the year.

After being sorted Noah took a seat at the Gryffindor table giving a smile to his sister, he knew they would be apart but he was okay with it, he wanted some independence and being in a house with his sister wouldn't give him that at all, so, he was happy.
He was happy to see that some other people he already knew were sorted into Gryffindor as well so he wouldn't be totally alone, most of the people he already knew had been sorted in houses other than Gryffindor so when Zay was sorted into Gryffindor he couldn't help but be thrilled about it.
The boy started eating, not really sure what to do but to make small talk with the first years around him and not knowing what to do next. Maybe he would run to the dorms so he could choose a good bed.

The sorting ceremony had started with a bang as two first years cartwheeled into the Great Hall. Sure it was kind of dorky, but Harper could always appreciate a good cartwheel. Unfortunately, the rest of the ceremony was not nearly as exciting. She tried to pay attention, but after a while, she found herself just politely joining in on the applause after each sorting, not bothering to remember any of the new first years' names. She had a whole year (well, technically, six years) to get to know them. No need to memorizes their names and faces now.

With a start, Harper realized that the ceremony was over and Professor Alicastell was giving her usual welcome back to school speech. She overhead @Terrell Foley, who was sitting nearby, comment on the kitchen rules, and Harper had to agree. She hadn't remembered that part last year; then again, she had been more preoccupied with the discovery that elves were real. "Don't think it really matters as long as you're not caught," she said cheerfully. The rule didn't make much sense; she didn't see much difference between requesting food and just going ahead and taking it for yourself. If anything, the second option was easier on the elves as it meant less work. The kitchen reminder didn't bother her, however, as she never really went down there. There were other rules to break. As Harper started to pile her plate with food, her mind wandered to the forest excursion she and Hunter were planning.

Michael was still kind of getting the hang of the warm version of Hogwarts. He had been enjoying his stay with his cousins so far and was thankful he had been placed in Gryffindor here. It was different than being with a bunch of Hufflepuffs, but at least he had his cousin to fall back on. He sat beside @Issac Jacobs while the headmistress explained the usual school rules, nothing Michael wasn't familiar with. He joyously filled his plate with food and began introducing himself to those around him.

The Sorting Ceromonys and the feast were one of Samantha's highlights of her years at Hogwarts. She had always loved the food that was offered and had always appreciated the hard work the house elves did to prepare the meals for the students. She clapped and cheered everytime there was a new first year joining their house. The headmistress also went over the usual rules of what and what no dos as well as her repeating the same thing as always about the Forbidden Forest. After the explanation and the first years being sorted into their houses, they could finally start eating the big feat in front of them. Samantha had sat at her house table, sitting with her friends within her house and just catching up with them for a little bit. Her cousin had transfered to Hogwarts New Zealand, in her year, which was a bit of a surprise but an exciting surprise. She was glad that it gave her the opportunity to spend more time with family. Samantha had noticed that there were more ghosts floating around the great hall than usual, and waved to them whenever they hovered passed.

Andromeda had been so prepared to be sorted into Slytherin that she hadn't even considered a different result, and she was still trying to comprehend what the hat could have seen in her that it decided she was bright and intelligent. Andromeda was many things, among them certainly clever, but on balance any intellect shrank into the background; she was many more things unpleasant and unextraordinary. Indeed, she half expected the hat to interrupt Professor Alicastell's speech to announce that, on second thought, it had made a mistake, and could Andromeda Reyes-Shirey please come back to the stool for another try?

But nothing came. The headmistress's speech concluded. And then the silver dishes were piled high with steaming food seemingly conjured from thin air. Andromeda watched the students dive in around her, some of them with such haste she wondered if they'd eaten at all over the holidays. Any appetite Andromeda had regained upon her sorting vanished as suddenly as the food had appeared. She picked at some grapes to disguise the fact she was still shaking. Was it relief? Fear? Perhaps - most likely - it was both.
