Core : As a core, mermaid scale assists wands in being helpful in classes such as Care of Magical Creatures and water-based spells. Though not a difficult core to obtain, mermaid scales must be freely given by the merperson in order to fully bond in the wand.
Wood : A protective wand, Holly takes on many traits of the core that it holds. A rare wand to find, Holly is notoriously difficult to pair.

Not nearly as responsible as his big sister, Theia, Sawyer tends to operate as the second in command in the Carnahan household, with their father's leadership being sadly lacking. Less up tight than Theia, Sawyer is generally easier to talk to for his siblings and friends, even if he's not good at expressing his own thoughts or feelings much. This usually finds Sawyer cast as the family go between and peace-maker, even if that 'peace' requires Sawyer to act more impassively.
Like the rest of his family, Sawyer struggles with expressing his emotions, preferring to obscure his feelings with jokes and avoidance tactics. While he would never admit it, Sawyer takes greatly after his father in that regard, usually preferring to try and will away larger problems through humour than face them head on. When he needs to process his own feelings, Sawyer will often retreat, fond of disappearing for hours at a time to play music or spend time thinking alone.
Growing up with two creative parents, Sawyer also managed to inherit some creative talent, mostly from his musician mother, Mona. Sawyer enjoys playing the piano and some stringed instruments, mainly the guitar. He and his older sister Theia often play together and share music and bands back and forth, something with which he holds very dearly, being closest with Theia than his other siblings.

FAMILY + HISTORY
Originally fostered by Mona and Marcus, Sawyer was adopted at age three by the Carnahan's, the first of soon to be several adopted children after difficulties with the birth of their first child, Theia. Now, Sawyer is one of four Carnahan kids and grew up in a rather rowdy, chaotic household. He doesn’t really remember his birth parents or life before being adopted and would consider the Carnahan’s his “real” family for whatever meaning of the word. Content with his family life and parents, Sawyer has decided to not go digging in his past and has never had many questions about his birth parents.
The Carnahan's were always a close family, filled with a lot of jokes and activity and music, but in December 2048, his mother, Mona, passed away unexpectedly from illness. Her death hit the family hard, and Sawyer, along with his older sister Theia, tried to step up to help their father cope with the loss and care for their much younger siblings. No Carnahan is particularly good at expressing their emotions sincerely, often hiding behind jokes. It has been hard for the whole family to process the big change, though things have mostly settled now, something Sawyer is grateful for as Theia and now himself leave for school.
