Open LGBTQ+ Pride 2049

Shane knew that the girl would have a little problem with moving about but after doing it a few times and apologising, Shane just shook his head, if she was going to do it, he would just had to adjust what he was doing to accommodate that. It wasn’t the easiest job but then again face paint really wasn’t. He was a little surprised when a second person turned up and asked what the rainbow stood for, and though Shane had been raised in a fairly open environment sexuality had been something he’d learnt for himself and something he’d easily forgotten was a thing people might not know about it. He listened as the girl whose face he was painting provided an answer of sorts, it wasn’t necessarily wrong, but it also wasn’t particularly correct. ”It’s not just because we’re all pretty, the rainbow in the context of pride, is the flag of gay pride, it’s the pride for those who love the same gender as themselves, specifically for boys who like boys. Girls who like girls have their own flag have their own, people who like both genders have their own, people who don’t care about gender have one. The rainbow is sometimes used as the easy catch all, the unifying flag,” he spoke carefully still painting the girl’s face, he hoped he’d kept the explanation simple enough, simple that both would understand what he was saying, perhaps cause questions to follow or for them to find out for themselves. He was of course, no expert. He looked to the other girl, ”I can do your face next yeah,” he was only half way done with the first but would be done soon enough that he could get started on the next.

Aonghas was a little surprised to see Lauren at this event, but much like he knew was sure he wasn’t and was still at this event, perhaps she was there in that same capacity. Aonghas looked at her and shrugged, ”Not sure,” he shifted slightly in the seat adjusting his kilt as he then reached out to the pack of sweets she had and took a few before Lauren could really stop him. At the statement he shrugged, ”It’s fine, yer ma pal, ye deserve a rose,” the boy replied before looking around at the room and within it spotting Lars. He gave the boy a little wave but turned most of his attention back to Lauren. ”Ye want me tae draw ye?” he offered with a little smile, his mouth filled with sweets, ”Ah warn ye, am pretty amazin’ so ye’ll need tae hald back yer applause,” Aonghas joked easily with her, he just needed something to do, so why not spend time with lauren, Lauren was a good person, he liked spending time with her and at times she seemed to really get the struggle of family pressure. He knew that they’d never be able to date but he wouldn’t turn down a friend in all this.

Vader gave a tired smile, he felt a little on edge, though he wasn’t particularly sure why. He shrugged a little, ”You could wave a flag or just make a move,” Vader replied with a little shrug, he didn’t always know what people should do in the pictures, it wasn’t always the most obvious thing, but the possibilities they had with magical pictures were near endless. There was little that they couldn’t do. THe picture wouldn’t be the longest thing, but it would be enough to capture whatever she wanted to do, ”You could in theory, just wave,” he added as he got his camera ready, he didn’t need her to do something if she didn’t want to, the picture could just be stationary, It wouldn’t utilitize the magical capabilities fully but what did that matter really. Vader adjusted the flower crown a little nervously as he waited. He wasn’t much at ease in an event like this with his current levels of sleep and overall his minds confusion. He should maybe seek out Pho after, her or Isabelle. Someone to cement that he wasn’t….even if there was nothing wrong with it for other people…..just not him. He tried to dispel those thoughts from his mind as he focused on Rose and taking the picture of her.

Lauren was enjoying her snacks, and looked at Aonghas. He seemed to be hungry too ofcourse, they were always hungry it seemed. Lauren was curious if they ever did a race who would eat the fastest and most, who would win than. The blonde waited for Aonghas to reply, she didn't knew he could draw. But perhaps he was just feeling bored. Aonghas was really kind to her, she wasn't used to this nice words. '' How romantic.'' she than said with grin. She wasn't really busy with boys and stuff, some girls were just acting really stupid and running towards boys to get their attention. Lauren just wanted to have fun and a nice time, and she hanged out with boys most of the time. He than asked if he should draw her. Lauren smiled shortly. '' Go ahead.'' And she laughed at his joke afterwards. He put on the pressure. '' I have an idea. You draw me and I draw you. '' Lauren said and took some paper and drawingstuff. She took another hand full of candy. She didn't want to make an competetion out of it, because she would lose she already knew. Drawing wasn't something for her she thought, but she never really tried before. The blonde wasn't so full of herself and was kind of insecure, because her parents always told her that she was useless, and she started to believe that sometimes. '' Do you draw often? I didn't knew.'' She than asked and looked at her empty paper. '' I warn you. I'm terrible. You can give me applause if I manage to draw a circle.'' She than said and looked at Aonghas his face. '' Or just square. You have a square head you know?'' Lauren than stick out her tongue and smiled. This was nice, she almost forgot her worries.

Norton was enjoying being with the books, he was hoping to pitch them to people, they would enjoy the books if they gave them a chance, which was half why they had covered up most of the book, made sure that people wouldn’t judge them by their cover. He had on the back written what sort of relationship was within it, and he had picked books with mostly happy endings, good plots that portrayed LGBT+ couples in the same way as their hetrosexual counterparts. The teen glanced up when he heard someone speak, smiling brightly at Therese, ”Oh hey Therese!” he exclaimed happily with a bright smile on his face. He liked the other girl, she was nice and she was a great quidditch player, ”Things are good!” he been about to ask if she wanted a book when she asked if he needed any help, ”I’ll accept any help you are willing to give!” the boy said to her with a bright expression. ”How are things? Tell me all about how you’re doing?” the boy asked, he didn’t really know therese personally, but he was more than willing to change that now.

Minnie’s parents thought it was important for her to spend time at the events that weren’t entirely school run. Or well, run by teachers. They tended to want to know what was going on so they could tell her if she could go or not. In the end, they’d said it was important for Minnie to be present at the LGBTQ+ event at Hogwarts. She could figure out why, for the same reason her parents attended events and held charity events. She knew they would be less accepting of her if she was anything other than straight, but her parents knew that it was important for business to be shown to be open minded. So, Minnie didn’t need much more encouragement than that to go. She really loved the look of the place when she stepped in, it was so colourful and vibrant. Minnie approached a girl at the flower crown stall and got a non-specific one. She held it in her hands as she continued through the hall. Wearing a flower crown didn’t seem like something her parents would like her doing, it would likely mess up her hair, make her look a little less than perfect. But, she loved the look of it, so lightly placed it upon her head. She wasn’t sure what else to do, but ventured over and got a drink a magically enhanced drink with all the prettiest colours. She couldn’t imagine it was particularly good for her, but she was more than willing to give it a try, what was one little unhealthy thing was she was good the rest of the time.

April was here for multiple reasons. One was her boyfriend, Norton. He'd poured his heart and soul into organizing this event with Rose Holland and April would be here to support him no matter what. But it was also because she had lately realized she didn't just like boys. She couldn't imagine liking anyone but Norton these days, but she did notice pretty girls more than most other girls seemed to. She wasn't sure how much she wanted to announce this to the world just yet, but she did grab a flower crown with the bisexual flag colors as she passed the table. Then she headed over to grab one of the magical drinks on offer, picking one that was very big and very sparkly. It seemed to suit her. After that, her mission was to find Norton. She grinned whens he spotted him and bounded over, only then noticing Therese. Was she here because of the Wild Patch Club? Or maybe for similar reasons as April? She knew Therese was dating a boy, but so was April, that didn't mean she was straight. But that would be a weird thing to ask, so instead she focused on greeting her and her boyfriend. "Hi Therese! Hi Norton! Good job organizing all this." Only then did she notice the stand they were standing at, and she laughed. "Books, really? You're such a nerd." She told her boyfriend fondly.

Therese figured she actually didn't knew her roommates that good, she had been spending so much time with Leif and Rory when he was still on school. But she always liked Norton and April and when April joined them she smiled at her roommate. She and Norton were a couple and they were just perfect she figured. They had to do a double date she all of sudden thought of, so they could spend time with Leif too if they liked. They were all Hufflepuffs and in the same year. '' I'm fine! Glad to hear for you the same. I just can't believe we will be seventh years next year. Don't want to think about it actually.'' Therese than replied to Norton and than looked at April. She laughed at her comment to Norton. This was cute. '' Hey April! Nice to see you.'' Therese than said with a big smile. They were all on the Quidditch team so that was where she saw the couple the most. '' I don't like reading that much. But how cool will it be to be mentioned in a book though. Perhaps in the future we will.'' Therese than said and dreamed. It was unlikely that, that would happen but everything was possible in life she figured.

Charlie had mixed feelings about pride. She was proud of who she was certainly, but Charlie's instincts to be private about things always made her somewhat nervous about the whole event. Sure, nobody had harassed her for her feelings here, but that could always change. It was against her nature to be loud and proud, and Charlie found some of the celebrations... intimidating, almost. But she would go, because it felt important to challenge herself on that front, because there were some things she had been thinking about, and because she wanted to spend time with her girlfriend. She hadn't dressed up in any pride gear, figuring the girlfriend was accessory enough, and Charlie just hoped she and Phoebe could hang out and keep their heads down. She looked around as she entered the Great Hall, surveying the different activities available. She could see Phoebe over by what looked like a drinks table, but there was another booth Charlie wanted to stop by first. She swept past the table of pamphlets, barely looking down to make sure she had grabbed the right thing before shoving it into her pocket and carrying on. The last thing she wanted was rumours going around about things she was just contemplating. She tried to put it out of her mind as she approached Phoebe, smiling at the sight of the Ravenclaw. "Gimme a sip?" She asked as she reached Phoebe's side, eyeing her impressive drink.

Kahurangi could tell at once that she had startled Monty and regretted it, smiling reassuringly and withdrawing her hand. She elected not to draw attention to how flustered he was, nodding as she looked over the scarves. "Yes, they're excellent." She smiled. "Reckon half my rugby club'll be jealous." She paused when he pondered who had made them, glancing around. "I'm not sure, but I definitely owe them a thankyou." While she was still looking at the table, Kahurangi's heart broke slightly at the sight of a boy from her house dropping a scarf, clearly looking disappointed. She gave him a reassuring smile when he noticed them, mind scrambling a moment to remember his name. "Hello, Mr. van Houten. That's a lovely scarf you had there."

Sitting still for such a long time was a hard thing to do, and Sierra wondered if getting her whole face painted really was a good idea. It seemed like a good idea and the girl knew that art took time but there were so many things she wanted to look at, her body just did not like the idea of sitting still. The boy who was painting her face explained that the rainbows were not just because they were all pretty, and she was pretty amazed by the explanation. Sierra wondered about what the flag of people who didn't care about genders looked like, as, though she didn't know about how she felt, that seemed like the closest one for her. The girl asked if she was a First Year, and Sierra shook her head with a smile. "Nope! Second year! Are you?" She asked before turning to the boy. "Are we nearly done?"

@Shane Ackley @Tres Bear II

The whole meaning behind the rainbows were much more elaborate than Tres would ever have guessed, and she did her best to follow what the older boy was saying. She didn’t really know which one would suit her best, and if she were honest she hadn’t really thought it about. The only boys she knew were her disgusting twin brother who liked to show off in front of her, and Unos friend Finn who seemed nice enough but only as a school mate. Sure she knew a few others but they were nothing more to her than people she had to share a castle with right now. It was a shame this girl wasn’t in her year too because she seemed quite fun. “I’m a first year, but I will be in second soon,” she replied, waiting patiently for her turn. “What do the other flags look like?” She added, looking around the room for an example.

Professor Kalif Styx had never been to one of these events but decided to see for himself what the big deal was. Truth be told, he was technically in the letters of the LGBT+ but never truly cared. Some of his siblings told him that he was actually asexual. His oldest sons especially since Draegan turned out to be bisexual and came out to Kalif. It was an interesting subject to study. His own father didn’t care too much that was outside the ordinary whereas Kalif didn’t care no matter what. As long as they were not muggleborn or werewolf. That he would not tolerate. To his surprise, Kalif saw the deputy headmaster there with that other Ancient Runes professor. Kalif did not take long to decide what to do. He walked over to the two professors, arms crossed. “Greetings,” the Slytherin Head of House.

Phoebe stirred her drink with her straw, enjoying how it seemed to cause more pops of fireworks within the liquid. Then she took a sip as she surveyed the room. Phoebe's eyes lit up at the sight of her girlfriend Charlie entering the great hall. She hoped the girl would spot her and come her way, but it seemed like first she went by the information booth. Phoebe was curious what reason Charlie had for going there, but knew her girlfriend well enough by now to know she would tell her on her own time. Pressing her about things usually had a negative effect, and maybe she'd been picking something up for her sister or a friend or something. Phoebe grinned at the Gryffindor as she approached, raising her hand in greeting. The hand quickly moved to cover her drink protectively at her question. "What? No! Get your own!" She said, though she was grinning all the while, clearly joking. "Or... pay me for it."

Rose was happy with Vader's suggestions, and nodded. She grabbed a pride flag from the information booth and started to wave it for the picture. "Cheese!" She called, grinning. She always liked that Vader took pictures for things like this, appreciating how he did it for rose deliveries too. But he also seemed a bit sad today. She wondered if Pride was too much for him, or if something about it made him uncomfortable. As a prefect of his house, for at least a few more days, maybe she should ask him? She wondered what to do while Vader took the picture. She could at least ask if something was bothering him, she decided.

Celebrating holidays had long been one of Elliot's favorite things, and Pride always never seemed short on the celebration side. Elliot had never been particularly worried about his own orientation, not really caring or noticing if he had a preference for boys or girls. Any crushes in the past were just.. people he liked.
It was interesting to see the hall decked out for Pride, as colorful as other school events, though maybe not quite as extravagant as the school dances. He made a beeline for the booth with flower crowns, half under the guise of wanting to see some of his hard work from the Wild Patch, but mostly because he wanted to wear one again.
After securing a flower crown with a string of blue and white flowers, Elliot scanned the hall, trying to not feel self-conscious about being here by himself. It was a relief when he spotted his roommate, heading over to Peregrine gratefully when it seemed like the other boy wasn't currently involved in anything. "Peregrine, hey," He said with a smile. "I feel like there's a lot happening around here and I have no idea what to do." School had kept them both busy enough that Elliot didn't always feel like he got a chance to talk to his dormmates that often.

Lillian had enjoyed the Pride event last year, despite the awkwardness of having to studiously ignore a couple of students flirting. Back then, it had taken her a while to decide to come, to decide that she wanted to be visible in the school in this way. She was glad she had, especially after discussing it with Kahurangi. Her friend’s views aligned with her own: it was important for professors to be visibly queer and supportive, and available if students wanted help or advice. Not that Lillian knew how exactly she’d give advice if a student asked, but that wasn’t something she needed to worry about right now. Lillian had been confident in her sexuality for a long time now, though her love life hadn’t exactly worked out.

Lillian quickly spotted the group of professors and walked over to join them. She’d hoped to spend time with Kahurangi and Monty like last year, but finding Kalif here was a surprise. Lillian didn’t know him very well, and honestly he made her a little nervous. “Hello,” she said to the three of them, and the student Kahurangi was talking to - what was his name? Lars . . . van Houten? Lillian already had a ribbon pinned to her shirt, but she rather liked the idea of the pride scarves. “Oh, these are sweet,” she said, hesitating. The colours were brighter than she would usually wear, but having one of these would certainly make her visible.

Monty laughed, relieved to turn the subject away from himself. Taking his mind off it was definitely the best way to go. Perhaps in a few minutes he could sidle off, and nobody would even notice-

Ah. He smiled at Lars, feeling as if he were looking at a slightly smaller reflection of himself. The boy always seemed to look a little uncomfortable, as if he thought he needed permission to so much as breathe, but today he looked like he'd just been caught stealing from a little old lady. "Hello," Monty said, in the friendliest tone he could muster. He didn't know what to say. It would have been awfully hypocritical of him to encourage Lars to take a scarf when he was petrified to take one himself. Suddenly he had an idea. He leaned toward the Ravenclaw and said, in lowered tones, "I'll wear one if you will." Then he picked up one of the rainbow scarves and went to put it on, pausing to see whether Lars would join him - though he'd already made up his mind to wear it regardless, and looped it around his neck a moment later.

A monotone expression of greeting caused him to look around. Well, this was just wonderful. Monty often woke up in the morning and thought to himself, 'I'd love to bump into Kalif at Pride while wearing a rainbow scarf'. "Good afternoon," he said, blushing. Oh, and there was Lillian. He reminded himself it wasn't a big deal. He'd worn rainbows at pride before. It was just that back then, he'd known it was all for the children. Now it felt like he was coming out before he knew whether he even should. And what if he wasn't gay? He felt like he was lying. But if Lars saw him take the scarf off now... "Yes, they are. Sorry. Excuse me," he said, and without any explanation turned and walked out of the hall. He'd have to apologise to Lillian for being so rude another day. He couldn't cope with this.

Peregrine's eyebrows rose as he turned around. "Oh. Hello," he said, both surprised and relieved to see a friendly face. But mostly surprised. He had never fully developed the capacity to understand that other people experienced things differently to him, and so automatically assumed Elliot was here because, like Peregrine, he was attracted to boys. "Yes. It's very confusing," he agreed, nodding. He paused awkwardly. "I like your crown."

@Elliot Briar

Lars blushed as Professor Kahurangi commented on the scarf. "It's not mine... I was just looking." He said uncertainly, taking a tiny step back from the table.Then Professor Pendleton leaned closer and told him that he would wear one if Lars did. Lars' eyes widened a bit. It was a nice gesture, or did it mean Professor Pendleton was like him? He had no idea how to ask that, and instead just picked up the scarf again. It was so soft, and he wanted to put it around his neck like Professor Pendleton had, but was alarmed when other professors joined the group. He shrunk back at the sight of Professor Styx, who was terrifying in the best of times. There was Professor Sword too with a ribbon pinned to her shirt. Lars felt overwhelmed, and it was clear he wasn't the only one. Lars watched with a pang of sadness as Professor Pendleton suddenly left the hall. What did that mean? He had been wearing the scarf, something Lars still hadn't dared to do, but was he embarrassed about it? More confused than ever, Lars took the scarf but stuffed it in his bag instead of wearing it. "Uh... bye..." He said, feeling like it would be rude to leave the professors without some sort of goodbye. Then he turned and walked away quickly, his heart pounding.

He was delighted for a moment to see Elliot, and his feet automatically seemed to want to move in his direction, only to have Lars nearly crash into someone when he saw Elliot was already talking to someone. Lars knew Peregrine a little, but never before had he disliked the boy. But right now, he felt undeniably jealous as he watched the two of them talk. How was it fair that Peregrine got to talk with Elliot at pride, when Lars had to talk to Professor Styx? He felt like he shouldn't interrupt the two of them, and headed over to the arts booth where he'd seen Aonghas earlier. It wasn't until he arrived that he realized Aonghas was joined by a girl. "Oh. Hello." He said to them both, looking uncertain. He pushed the rainbow scarf deeper into his bag, trying to hide it from view.

@Aonghas Fergusson @Lauren Davenport

Abian hoped the boy didn't mind him interrupting his thoughts, and it was very well possible that the boy was waiting for someone else here, but Abian wasn't discouraged by his response. He smiled back at the boy, who either looked nervous or shy... or both? "I like your flower crown, maybe I should pick one up." He'd seen Vader wear one too, but Abian had never really tried wearing one himself. But they were here to grab if someone wanted, so it would be a wasted opportunity not to. Abian shook the boy's hand with a smile. "Cool, I'm Abian. Are you a first year?" He asked, wondering if Mark was in his sister's year or not.

@Mark Ross

Mark actually liked the fact that he didn't look that he was here alone anymore and he actually got company. As the new boy complimented him, Mark gave him a slight smile. He never actually got a compliment in this year and this felt really good. - Thanks! Mark said, fixing his flower crown and looking at @Abian Hunter. - You definitely should! Mark gave him another slight smile. A lot of people actually were wearing flower crowns today in the hall and it looked really good and as if everyone was a one huge community. As Abian introduced himself and smiled, Mark felt a little more courage and as if he could talk without being that shy and express his thoughts freely. - Yeah! And you aaree... Mark said, hoping that Abian would finish the sentence.

Norton smiled and agreed with Therese, ”Right, I feel gross and old,” he said with a little laugh. It was wild that they were suddenly so old, suddenly so close to finishing school, suddenly towards the end of their education. Norton looked up and spotted April as she greeted them both, he took her in easily, the flower crown, the drinks and realised that in all of their getting together they had never once actually talked about sexuality. It hadn’t even really mattered. Perhaps it might be worth it. Even if it would change nothing about what their relationship was. He couldn’t help the fond smile on his features and then laughed lightly at her insult, ”Hey, you date this nerd, what does that make you?” Norton countered before looking back towards Therese who said she didn’t like reading that much but that it would be cool to be mentioned in a book. He nodded in agreement. ”I think it would be cool to be mentioned in a book, or even to write one,” Norton agreed, ”Maybe one day yeah, when we’ve all gone out of school and done great things with our lives,”

Kahurangi was still relatively new to her role as a Head of House, but she knew there were some areas she was better equipped to help a struggling student than others, and this was certainly one of her strengths. She was trying to figure out a delicate way to encourage Lars without scaring the boy off, and found herself admiring Monty's approach. She didn't know what was troubling the deputy himself, but Kahurangi hoped she would get a chance to talk to him about it. Before she could say anything to either Lars or Monty though, they had been joined by both Kalif and Lillian, and to her dismay, the skittish man and boy had both fled. Kahurangi's heart sank as she watched Monty go, making a mental note to check in with him soon. Lars too, though at least the boy hadn't left the event entirely. She turned her attention to her other colleagues and gave them a weak smile, trying not to let on how disappointed she was at the disruption. "Kalif, Lillian, nice to see you."

Elliot was glad he wasn't the only one who didn't quite seem to know what to do. There seemed to be plenty of things to look at or do, but approaching anyone else seemed a bit daunting. He ducked his head a bit when Peregrine complimented the flower crown, trying to resist the urge to resettle the crown on his head. "Thanks, I think it's kind of a thing.. in the Wild Patch Club. I think they're fun," He said with a small shrug. Peregrine didn't seem like the type to make fun of him for something like that, and Elliot had already spent almost an entire day wearing one during rose deliveries so he didn't feel as self-conscious about it as he could have. "Do you want one as well, they're over there.." He said, taking a tentative step closer to the booth he'd grabbed his from.
