River could not believe the year was over already. As always she seemed to spend most her time focusing on classes. It was just expected of her. She had wanted to stray off that path, but only actually took action at the end of the semester. Classes were exciting of course but the young Slytherin did not want to end up like her sister, obsessive. As long as she got the perfect marks, which was a challenge within itself, she could afford to relax and enjoy the magic around her. Maybe even socialize more.
River entered the Great Hall for the end of the year feast. She was worried of course. Her older sister was always stressed out about this sort of thing. They would announce house point winners. And the house cup of course. River knew that Gryffindor always won that thing, but the individual house points was always the thing her sister worried about most. River didn’t quite understand it. Of course it was nice to be recognized but a person could only do so much.
River took her seat at the Slytherin table. She smiled sweetly at those around her before the headmistress began. Of course Gryffindor had won the cup. River clapped before catching Emmaline’s gaze. Giving her sister a thumbs up she listened to the rest of the Headmistress’s speech. It was only when she heard her own name first that her eyes opened up wide. Wait what?! River thought unable to make an actual logically thought. She had gotten the most housepoints out of anyone. Now that just didn’t seem possible. She smiled at those that clapped for her, the moment ending too soon when she heard that the top Grffindor earner was not her sister.
Although River was slightly worried how this new revelation would affect her break, she could not believe she had done so well. She hates to admit it but she was proud. Maybe this is what she saw in her tea leaves, the recognition. She could not keep the smile off her face, as her hair was slightly brighter pink than when she sat down for the feast.
When the food arrived, River loaded up her plate. It would be awhile since she had a real meal. Most of her breaks were take out or instant food. The young girl did not try to make eye contact with her sister. For once she was allowed to think of herself, to enjoy the moment of success and deal with the aftermath later. River began eating as she listened to the conversation around her.
