Leah is not used to being told no. Despite her family's best efforts to not raise her with any outright blood supremist values she has still ended up with an inflated sense of importance and a slight hero complex. She believes that she knows best and that everyone must want to know what she thinks. She also has a habit of inserting herself into situations when she isn't needed and no one asked, simply because she knows they need her help. Her families money and influence has bade her a bit reckless and bold at times, since she has never really learned proper consequences.
She does her best to live up to her family's expectations but try as she might, Leah is not very good at playing that part and is always acting out or speaking out of turn. She constantly feels much too big for the small box she is being asked to exist in as a ‘respectable pureblood’. Growing up rather sheltered has given her a hunger for what life has to offer and is eager to jump into what ever adventure presents itself to her. At the end of the day, she is kind and generous and wants people to like her. She feels a bit adrift now that her family home has been sold and is searching for a place to really belong and for people who appreciate her for her.

Leah comes from a long line of pureblood wizards on both sides of her family. The Thornes have been based in England for as long as anyone can remember, while her mother's family, the Walden's moved to the United States not long before it became the United States and have been there ever since. Her parents met through mutual friends while her mother was taking an art history course in Paris. They were both feeling pressure form their families to settle down or at least get married, and after a brief but passionate fling they decided to go take a chance and got married six months after they first met. Leah was born in London a year later. Their relationship deteriorated quickly after their daughter was born but they tried their best to make things work for Leah and for the reputations of both their families.
Despite her parent's constant conflicts, Leah had a very privileged and relatively happy childhood. She had everything she could ever want at the tip of her fingers, but she was also a bit lonely as an only child. Growing up she was rather close to the extended family on her father's side. Her grandparents are very traditional and she tries her best to impress them but rarely succeeds. She is also the oldest cousin and takes that responsibility very seriously and is usually found bossing them around. With her own private tutors she didn't have to go to school which meant she spent most of her time at home where she learned to make her own fun. Her father was the one who indulged in her more rambunctious nature and would play elaborate make believe games and buy her all the adventure books she could ever want. Her mother on the other hand loves her daughter fiercely but often wishes Leah was a bit more manageable and lady-like. She had hoped her daughter would be a bit more like her and enjoy art and garden parties the way she does.
But as she got older her parent's relationship didn't improve to the point they finally came to the agreement to get divorced a few months before she turned eleven. For her it was actually a relief to get a break from their fighting but it did mean she had to leave her childhood home behind as her mother moved back to the United States with her family and her father moved to a small cottage on the English coast. The subject of which school she would attend suddenly became a point of contention between her parents. Her father wanted her to go to Hogwarts Scotland where he had gone but her mother wanted her to go to Ilvermorny where she had attended. Eventually Leah was able to use their grudges against each other in her favor so she could go to Hogwarts New Zealand instead.
