Open after Kris posts with Sydney

The duel at the start of the year hadn't really been a club event, more a... club promotion event, and Tyler was glad they had done it. He'd been able to show both club members and outsiders who the real leader of the Student's Defence Association was, and it wasn't Sydney. He knew the girl was bothered by this, but pretended not to notice it. He acted like the duel and victory were no big deal, but they both knew it was. Now at their first official meeting as club leaders, Tyler felt confident. He stood with his back straight and a smile on his face as the members of the SDA filed in. When everyone was there, he was the one to speak first, not giving Sydney a chance to get a word in. "Hello and welcome to the first official meeting of the Student's Defence Association." He said with a grin. "The club does more than just organize the duelling tournament we all know and love. Today we'll be helping you prepare for said duels. Some of you can probably use a little refresher, and there's nothing to be ashamed of if that's the case." He said with a significant look at Sydney, before continuing. "Today we'll be demonstrating some spells you guys can use in your duels next semester. These are spells only to be used in such situations, obviously. The spell Sydney will be teaching you is the Everte Statum spell, which can cause an object or a person to fly backwards. This spell is something anyone can learn from first year on." He said with a slight smirk at her. "The spell I will be teaching is a more advanced spell, students fifth year or older can learn it. I'll be demonstrating the Obscuro spell, which blocks a target's vision." He said, before gesturing to the other side of the room. "Those who want to learn the spell Sydney will teach can go over there, those that want to learn the spell I will show you can stay here with me. Let's get started. Or did you have anything to add, Sydney?" He asked, as an afterthought.

Sydney knew she could do great things with the SDA. She just had to find a way to get around Tyler first. He'd definitely got it in his head that their duel at the start of the year was anything other than just some twee spectacle for new prospective members. It wasn't like it meant anything, and Sydney was determined to prove as such to him and the club now that they were getting into more club activities. She'd been looking forward today as a chance to share some more interesting spells with the club, but she immediately felt her frustration rise as Tyler began speaking, doing her best to hide her lip curl at his smug, stupid voice. What she wouldn't do for a rematch.

"It's important you learn how to effectively utilize these spells, even if you might already know them both. Though if you'd prefer self-study, you're welcome to practice what you see fit on the dummies," She added, keeping her head held high as Tyler's petty jabs before moving over to her section of the room for her demonstration, motioning any interested students to follow and rolling up her sleeves.

After watching the demonstration duel, Tilly was convinced to join the SDA. She would probably be terrible at all of it. However, she was determined to try. Since she was nowhere near fifth year, she followed Sydney. Everte Statum sounded pretty cool and she couldn’t wait to see it in action.

Juniper was determined to be better this year at a lot of things. Better with her grades, better against her competitors, and better at making a name for herself that wasn't associated with her prefect sister. As she entered the duelling chamber, she listened to Tyler speak and then to Sydney. She was familiar with the spell they would be working on and wished she could skip ahead to her fifth year. They learned how to throw people back their first year. She crossed her arms and walked over with the younger students, leaning against a wall as she prepared to listen to what the prefect had to say.

Seraphina had one thing to kind of look forward to this year, and that was SDA. While she had been reluctant to join, a conversation with her nonna had her realize that it would be a good outlet for her frustrations, especially since she would be allowed in the duelling tournament this year. As she entered, she listened to the leaders speak, not really caring what they were saying other than being told she had to go with the girl she met at the club fair. She meandered over and noticed a familiar face as they were walking - her least favorite Hufflepuff. Giving a small smirk, she stood directly behind the girl and whispered in her ear. "You're blocking my view."

Michael felt like he was up to his ears in club activities, but at least this one would be useful. He hadn't duelled much in Scotland, but maybe he should have to catch up with his comrades in New Zealand. As he listened to the leaders of the club speak, one of which he had seen around in his classes, he was excited to learn a new spell. He wasn't sure how advanced it was, but it seemed like it would help during a duelling tournament. Blur your opponents vision so they can't aim at you. He followed the boy and rubbed his hands together excitedly hoping to get an actual chance to use the spell during today's meeting.

Brooke had some reservations about attending SDA events. The duel had been easy enough to stay out of the way, but it would be hard to avoid Sydney in a straight up club only event. Especially once she heard what they'd be doing. But Brooke was determined. She wanted to learn and she knew objectively Sydney couldn't just kick her out for nothing. She was also quietly hoping maybe this would give her and Sydney a chance to get closer, like they had been as kids, though Brooke knew better than to get her hopes up too high. Resolutely, Brooke joined the other younger students and followed Sydney, not shying away when Sydney made eye contact with her.

The SDA had been alright the previous year with how they had gotten some Auror's in to talk, but hopefully, things were going to be even better this time around. Especially as he could now enter the dueling tournament now he was a second year and actually knew some useful spells this time around. But he was a little disappointed that they would only be going over something he already knew how to do and Flynn couldn't help but give a hopeful looking towards the fifth year and up group. But he supposed he didn't get a choice in the matter, huffing as he followed after the younger co-leader, folding his arms as he waited for her to start.

Ronald so excited because this 1st time that we have a merting SDA group, and he so lucky because Syndey teach us spell that will bd helpful for the event about dueling next event SDA, Ronald was so happy because his skills in dueling will be gain more and be confident being a member SDA.

Kia was determined to be more active this year. She had things to do and if she was going to do them she needed to learn. She watched the two at the front of the room, cursing quietly when she was to be shuffled off with Sydney. She would have rather gone with Tyler. Sighing, she moved over to the other side of the room, positioning herself in a corner in the back so she could watch and observe without being seen herself.

Indi was glad she had joined the SDA even though she couldn’t participate in the duels this year. She was just excited to be getting to see more offensive and defensive magic first hand. She’d get to see spells most of her classmates wouldn’t learn about until much later. She had been worried the meeting would be a bit boring but she was relieved to learn they’d actually be learning a spell, even her. The spell she would be learning sounded great and she was sure would definitely be useful in duels eventually.

Tilly turned as someone whispered in her ear. ‘You’re blocking my view.’ Tilly scowled down at Seraphina. She knew exactly what the Gryffindor girl meant. Tilly was struggling with body image more and more as she grew, though she wouldn’t admit it to anyone.

“I think your nose looks a little crooked,” Tilly replied bluntly.

Last year, Liusaidh was the one who had cast Petrificus Totalus at Seraphina and caused her to faceplant in the Seventh Floor Corridor. Tilly would love to hit Seraphina with a good jinx. At first, she hated the thought of being in the same club with the Gryffindor. However, the SDA might give her a chance for sanctioned payback.

@Seraphina My

Lysander enjoyed the SDA's events, but he couldn't lie and say he was disappointed by what Sydney had said she'd be teaching them in this demonstration. A first-year spell. That wasn't the most exciting. He paused as she walked away, thinking about it for a moment, and followed after. "Can I go with the other group? I bet I could probably learn Obscuro. I am a champion." He asked her, jerking a thumb toward Tyler and the older students. It couldn't be too hard. He could handle some more advanced magic.

Seraphina instinctly touched her nose after Bigfoot's comment. It had basically been Tilly's fault it was broken, but the Gryffindor also never went to the hospital wing to have it fixed, embarassed that she would have to say she had two students gang up on her. She could take care of herself. Pursing her lips, she crossed her arms and tried to think of a retort. "At least my nose is the right size for my head, you cow," she said, hoping the instruction would start soon so she could maybe have a chance at using a spell against her least favorite person. @Tilly Drage

Eric had gone to the SDA event very reluctantly, which caused him to be a bit late. He had toyed with the idea of not going at all, but letting Sydney win that easily bugged him. If she was going to be in charge of the group, he might as well try to make her life as leader harder. He headed into the club room in the middle of the other leader's speech. Eric didn't like Sydney, but he didn't really like this guy either. He seemed very happy with himself, though Eric could appreciate how he rubbed his win over Sydney in her face a bit. Eric had sort of hoped that today's event would be one he could just sit out, like a normal boring meeting where he could just wait for a good time to leave unnoticed again. But it seemed like Sydney and Tyler were going to teach them some spells. Ugh. Eric didn't get why they thought they were qualified to teach them anything, especially Sydney who had lost her duel. He lingered in the back of the room, not really going to either side. He wondered if he could just observe for a bit, rather than get involved in all this. He couldn't help rolling his eyes at Lysander Summers. Of course he thought himself too good for the normal rules.

Ivy hadn't wanted to sign up for a club initially, but in the end the SDA had seemed too interesting to ignore. The idea of learning how to use defensive spells and techniques outside of classes was too intriguing, and Ivy had been looking forward to the first event for a while now. She headed into the club room, istening as the leaders spoke and explained what they would do today. It seemed like they would be divided into two groups, and Ivy headed over to the girl who would be teaching them a spell first years could use. She privately agreed with the one boy who asked if he could learn the more advanced spell despite not being old enough, and listened closely to hear the answer. She wanted to know what they would say to him, though she doubted she would even be considered for that as she was only a second year. Ivy stood next to Brooke, then waited for the spell demonstration to begin. Maybe she could pick up a thing or two by occasionally watching the other group as well, and practice that spell in her own time.

Sydney waited impatiently for the club to wander over to their respective sides of the room, quietly pleased she'd pulled more students than Tyler had, even if it was only down to the club demographics. Her prospective students were getting a bit rowdy though, so Sydney decided to get things rolling already, not wanting to wait on Tyler to start anything. She paused when she spotted Eric loitering near the back of the room, clearly thinking he was too good for either of the demonstrations. "Holland, pick a side or go spend time with one of the practice dummies, they're probably more on your level," She called over to him, not wanting to waste any more time on him than she had to before turning to face her gathered club members.

She rolled her eyes when Lysander Summers decided to pipe up as well. Gryffindors always got it in their heads that they were something special, so typical. Sydney was fairly sure Lysander had only gotten anywhere because he was related to a teacher. "Come here," She said, beckoning Lysander over so he was standing across from her and pointedly raising her wand at him. She'd been planning on using Brooke for her demonstration after spotting her in the group, but Lysander would send a better message. Barely giving Lysander a chance to square up, Sydney shot the spell at him, smiling as the Gryffindor was sprawled onto the floor. "You're welcome to practice whatever you like, but I can't help but think you could benefit from some extra practice with this spell," She said sweetly, turning back to the group. "Everte Statum is a useful spell and shouldn't be under estimated. Put in enough power and you gain valuable time and space to ready your next spell or defend from your opponents retaliation. Go, pair up with another club member or with a dummy and don't hold back. The floor has padding, so you'll be fine," She said, dismissing the group with a wave of her hand.

@Eric Holland @Lysander Summers *godmod approved.

Jasper wasn't particularly excited at the thought of the SDA meeting, now Tyler was in charge the club had lost a lot of the appeal to him. But at least Sydney was in charge too, and Jasper wanted to support his friend even if he hated Tyler. The boy headed into the SDA clubroom and listened as Tyler started the meeting. He rolled his eyes as he kept talking, it was clear how full of himself he was, and it was a bit ridiculous. Just because he had won one duel, really? He was a bit annoyed that Tyler was teaching the spell that would be more interesting, and he stayed with him reluctantly. Though he shot a smile at Sydney, to encourage her. He hoped she was doing alright as leader along with Tyler. Maybe they could complain about him together after the meeting.

Tilly narrowed her eyes at Seraphina. A cow, huh? Tilly was tempted to moo back at the other girl, but she turned her attention to the SDA leader. She watched as Sydney blasted one of the Gryffindor beaters with Everte Statum. Tilly drew in a breath at the power of the spell. Cool.

Turning back to Seraphina, Tilly grinned wickedly. “Want to pair up? Unless you’re scared of cows.” Tilly would love the opportunity to knock the Gryffindor girl right on her backside.

@Seraphina My

Tyler watched as the younger students headed over to Sydney's side of the room, leaving him with only a few students. He waited for a moment, watching as Sydney started her demonstration. Tyler's eyebrows raised as she first yelled at Eric Holland, and then used Lysander Summers as a training dummy. Tyler frowned at her, she was taking this all a bit far. Though Tyler did admit that Lysander had been a bit obnoxious, and realized he'd rather not deal with him or Sydney right now. So the boy focused his attention on the few older students there, pretending to ignore what was happening on Sydney's side of the room. "Very well, while the kids play around with that spell, we'll be learning an important one." He said, smiling slightly. "Personally, I believe the best spells in duels are the ones that directly lead to a win, which is why I tend to lean towards a simple stunning or disarming spell. But a spell like Obscuro helps distract the opponent and lower their defenses. It blocks their vision." He said, before demonstrating the spell on a dummy. A blindfold was conjured and moved over the place on the dummy where the eyes would be. "It's not a difficult spell if you get the incantation right. I suggest you pair up and practice it." He said with a slight smile. "Of course, we could practice it on dummies, but using a moving target is a lot more useful." He said truthfully.

Lysander smiled a little stupidly at Sydney as she beckoned him over, assuming that she perhaps wanted him to help her lead the younger group instead of going off with the older students, since he had shown himself very capable of duelling for the past two years. His cousin had been one of the former leaders, so it made sense to him that she’d seek his assistance, and that made him feel important. His smile quickly faltered when she raised her wand at him, brows furrowing quizzically. “Uh-“ He managed to get out, before the spell hit his chest and he was thrown backwards. He skidded to a halt and lay there, visibly stunned, eventually recovering enough to sit up from the cold stone floor. He shot Sydney a hurt look. That...that hadn’t been fair. All he’d wanted to do was try something more challenging. He dusted himself off wordlessly, cheeks red with embarrassment, and sulked off to one of the dummies.

Flynn couldn't hold back the slight snigger when Lysander was called up and Sydney demonstrated the spell on him. "Nice landing, dude," he giggled at his teammate with a grin, having rather enjoyed the demonstration. But now came the boring bit of just practicing the spell, though Flynn was quite convinced that he didn't need to practice it and he could manage such an easy spell just fine. And as he didn't really want someone shooting the spell at him, either, he decided to move towards one of the dummies, giving it a small kick as he got close. But beating up some dummy was hardly very interesting, either.

Of course the idea that he would just stand here and not be noticed or mocked was too good to be true, especially with Sydney in charge. She made a point of calling him out and humiliating him in front of everyone, which was so like her. He wondered if the other leader was going to step in, but of course not. He didn't even seem to notice. Before Eric could react to Sydney's stupid words, she was moving on with her 'lesson'. The moment she beckoned Summers over, Eric knew nothing good was going to come of this. While the image of the obnoxious boy flying back was amusing, it frustrated Eric more than he thought it should. But here was just another example of Sydney being terrible without even pretending to be a decent person, and she was just getting away with it. None of the students looked particularly shocked, and the other leader straight up ignored what was going on. Eric suddenly realized that every meeting he would go to for this club from this point on would be like this. There was no way Sydney wouldn't single him out at every chance, assuming no one else opened their big mouth like Summers had just now. And Eric came to the realization that he did not want to be in a club like that. "F*** this." He said, making sure his voice carried over Sydney's instructions. "I'm out. You're a terrible leader. Good job ruining the club in your very first meeting." He said, turning around and walking out of the room. He wasn't even that angry, not at the point of fury Sydney usually got him to. But he knew he couldn't stand this for a second longer, and he left the room without another word. He wouldn't be returning to this club.

@Sydney Townsend

Aisa headed into the SDA meeting, curious to see what it would be like. The club had a few meetings in the past, but none that were very impressive to Aisa. She listened as Tyler explained what the meeting would be like, a little annoyed at how obviously he relished being in charge of the club. But she was still glad to be on his side of the room to learn the spell that definitely sounded more interesting. She was trying to focus on that, but the commotion on the other side of the room was impossible to miss. First, Lysander was being used as a training dummy by Sydney, and then Eric Holland just walked out. Aisa should have guessed that having Sydney in charge would create some drama, but this was more than she would have imagined. She figured she should tell Sully all about it later, if Lysander didn't beat her to that.

Micahel watched as the boy demonstrated the Obscuro spell. It seemed simple enough, but the Gryffindor had never attempted it. It wasn't moments after that he saw his roommate have an outburst and leave. He wasn't sure what was with that guy. He had been warned that he might be a little dramatic, but it was just a club. He shrugged and thought about whether or not to go with a dummy to practice or another student. He walked up to a girl he recognized from classes. "Hey, would you want to partner up?" he asked. @Aisa Hunter
