Y45 Start of Year Feast

Yuelia was back at Hogwarts, she supposed. She had no idea what she was doing, but she was here. She needed to find things that interested her outside of simply duelling, and duelling was more of an interest because she wanted to prove she could cast spells better than most. She had done a bit of work at the Apothecary, and that had been difficult but actually not too bad. Maybe she just had to try a few different things. Thankfully, she was unburdened by the responsibility of being a prefect. Which was fair, she didn't think she'd earned it. But it did mean that she didn't have as much to work towards. She idly chewed on a piece of chicken, barely tasting it, as she saw one of the new students get coated in sauce and run out of the room. Yuelia delicately brought her napkin to her lips to hide her smirk, before looking around. "Should...I go and help her?" She didn't really know what she could do, clean her off she supposed.

Miranda grinned. Already, there were nice people in Ravenclaw. A part of her had vaguely worried they would be more like her mother, but she knew that would have been silly to think. There were going to be all kinds of people in each house. "Exploring sounds great! I hear there's all kinds of secrets around." She pondered for a second, before turning back to Lucy. "It's really nice to meet you, Lucy! Have you found anything cool exploring?" Miranda asked, hoping not to be a bother but genuinely curious and wanting to know more. "Er, if it's not something to be kept secret, that is."

@Lucy Montague

Lucy had to think for a moment, thinking about what she'd discovered over her time as a first year. "You know, actually, last year me and a friend tried to lure out the giant eel that lives in the lake. I don't know if we got the actual giant eel, but we definitely found something. It snapped with its jaws at some sandwich we left in the water like this!" Lucy snapped her forearms and hands together. "One day I hope to find the actual giant eel, but apparently food isn't what draws it out." Lucy hoped that story would be thrilling and impressive to Miranda; she liked the idea of impressing the younger students.
@Miranda Dawes

Aroha was pleased to be in Gryffindor. It seemed like a great house, purely judging on the big, bold bright red that accompanied it. Aroha took her seat after the sorting and listened to the headmaster's speech. That was twice now he'd mentioned the forbidden forest - surely an invitation if Aroha had ever heard one. As soon as the food appeared, Aroha started loading up her plate, feeling hungry. It reminded her a bit of being on a marae - and she knew from being on a marae that when it was time to eat, you made sure you ate because that was it. Aroha dug in, enjoying the kai, thinking she could save socialising till after, when they were back in their rooms.

Molly nodded. "Always good to relax for sure, especially before heading back to school," Molly says with a smile. Molly always liked relaxing during her breaks. However, during the recent breaks, she hadn't really had time to relax with her parents and stuff. Molly took a quick bite from her bun, before turning back to the boy. "You got any plans for this year? Anything you're looking forward to?"

@Demetrius Wagner

Fiona was glad to see a familiar face sitting next to her. Everything did look good, but there were so many choices and she couldn't decide which one she wanted to pick. Fiona's eyes widened at the sight of Travis' plate. "Woah! That's a whole lot! What's your favourite from all of that?" Fiona exclaimed and questioned, as she pointed towards the plate. Again, Fiona was trying to narrow it down to what she should eat and try. But there seemed to be too many good options.

@Travis Simons

Demetrius returned the smile, taking some roast carrots and putting them on his plate. She asked him what he was looking forward to, and it didn't take Demetrius long to figure out his answer. "Honestly, care of magical creatures class. Don't have it till second semester, but it's my favourite." He really was looking forward to seeing what creatures they'd be meeting and covering in class. "How about you? Any plans or anything?" he asked, curious about her response.
@Molly Burke

As Travis enjoyed the food in front of him he smiled to Fiona. He grinned to her. '' Well we can do whatever we want right? No parents to say we can't eat that or that much!'' He than said smiling. And than looked at his plate with an questioned face. '' Hard to pick. That's why I got soo much.'' But he than took an sausage with his fork and hold it up. '' This looks delicious. Try one!'' He than told the girl.

@Fiona Burke

Ever was freshly sorted. She had thought that the Sorting hat had done a decent enough job. How could it not? It certainly had nothing else going for it. She was a little upset that her older sister was also in her house, but Slytherin had to be the best house. If Ever was in it, it was the best. She would make sure of that. The blonde girl took a seat next to her sister, hoping that everyone would not see the family resemblence, obviously Ever was the prettier one. That was clear.

The newly sorted Slytherin listened to the Headmaster's short speech. A few rules and some useless information. She listened, only to see if there could anything that she could use, anything of importance. There wasn't. The food arrived. Ever began filling her plate, her eyes looking around at her fellow Slytherins, eying them up. Who would she choose to have the honor of being her 'friend'?

Logan gave one of the platters of food an experimental jab of his fork, just to be certain it was real, and almost jumped in surprise when it was indeed actually there. Was this something he could do? Make delicious food appear out of thin air? He'd never have to eat weet-bix for breakfast again if he could magic up a bowl of coco-pops instead. He helped himself to the food in front of him, lumping heaps of it onto his plate - far more than he was sure he could eat - and dug in. He paused when a boy next to him asked a question, and was excited to be able to answer it. He didn't think he'd have many opportunities to do that here. "'S owt o' bowns." He said through a mouthful of food. He quickly swallowed. "It's out of bounds. I think he said you have to be with a teacher." He repeated. Every restricted area at his old school was fenced in, but he figured maybe fencing a whole forest was too hard to do. "How big do you think it is?" He asked aloud. It had been too dark to tell when he came in. He was looking forward to getting to explore everywhere during the day.
@Helios Obasi

Hazel smiled as the boy introduced himself. She had heard Slytherins could be unfriendly, but this boy seemed to be nice. She nodded in agreement at his comment, spearing a piece of potato with her fork and inspecting it. "It is pretty good, if a bit boring. I think they could have been a bit more creative with the plating." She admitted. "Were you hoping for Slytherin? Or are you disappointed? I like it, but I met a bunch of girls on the train that all went to Ravenclaw, which sucks."

@Kyousuke Kurosawa

Vanity was watching Enouch closely to see how he'd react to her teasing, but he ignored her. Vanity huffed out a breath of annoyance. "I was just joking." She said. "Clearly, that girl was unhinged. You did the reasonable thing." She told him, as she thought the girl had just been pretty stupid for doing what she had done.

@Enoch Goldewyn

Matt laughed softly at Gabrielle's comment, sure she was exaggerating slightly. He knew the last year had been a bit rougher than most, but he was still optimistic. Matt smiled. "How do you think I feel? I've taught both Adorah and Noel myself, it feels like only yesterday." He said with a sigh, easily able to picture them in his classroom. "A relative of yours has been sorted?" He asked her with interest.

@Professor Gabrielle Moncrieffe

Helios glanced at one of the other first years, who'd clearly paid more attention than he did. Though, Helios wasn't too impressed with the boy in the first instance, given how he'd spoken. However, given that Helios hadn't exactly been listening, he couldn't be too on his horse. "It has to be over an acre to be considered a forest, so it's probably pretty big," Helios replied to him, though it wasn't like he would ever find out. Helios was not one for things that were dangerous and the forest was absolutely going to be terribly dangerous.
@Logan Lyle

Emmanuel looked at Michael with a warm smile. "Congratulations to you too," he said with a warm tone. "I'm sure it won't be too arduous," he countered, since many of the other students had managed it and done more, like he knew Monday was a prefect and did a lot more and still balanced it all out. "I was quite surprised to be picked, were you?"
@Michael Watson

Enoch glanced back at Vanity as she kept speaking. He agreed that the girl was clearly unhinged. Since he had really done nothing at all. "Thanks," he replied, though didn't offer anything else, didn't even lighten his tone or smile, just replied plainly and then went back to his food.
@Vanity Mettlestone

"That's true," Michael admitted, though he knew he wasn't quite as dedicated as someone like Monday. The older boy was impressive, and honestly a little scary. But mostly impressive. "Oh, yeah, I really didn't think I was in with a shot. Guess the Quidditch stuff helped," he pondered, shrugging. "I'm not surprised you got it, though, you deserve it." Emmanuel really was an ideal Ravenclaw, he was clever and enthusiastic about academics. And he was a nice and approachable person, which didn't always go hand in hand with academics but Michael was relieved it did in this case.
@Emmanuel Okoye

Gabrielle shook her head with a small laugh, despite herself. "That must be jarring. I'm kind of glad I haven't hit that point...yet. Give it time." Although, the younger Potions teacher had been a student when she had started teaching. Gabrielle just hadn't actually taught her. She wondered for a moment if she should make something up, but there was no point - the records would have the details anyway. "My daughter. I'm proud to say she's a Ravenclaw." She lowered her voice a little, not necessarily wanting to give the full explanation but figuring she needed to clarify just a little. Matt was a smart man, he'd get it. "She lives with her father."
@Professor Matt Alcott-Ward

Kyousuke found the comment on the plating quite interesting. She probably had a point. "It's not what I'm used to eating, that's for sure," he said. He answered immediately when asked if he was happy with the house he'd been put in. "I'm glad. I asked the hat where I'd find success, and it said here. So this must be the right place for me." He guessed he should show some sympathy but it wasn't entirely sure how to do it. "Oh, really?" Kyousuke tried. "The girl I met on the train got into Slytherin I think." Kyousuke looked around, found her, and pointed at Summer. "She was nice," he said.
@Hazel Ashworth

Emmanuel gave a little nod of agreement. "Quidditch shows you're a team player, and your grades are good too," he added, knowing that Michael tended to be in the classes with him. He gave a little warm smile, happy to take the praise that came with someone believe you deserved something. Emmanuel hadn't thought of himself for it at all. "Thank you, my family are very proud," he said, "You deserve it too, for sure," he added, wanting Michael to feel proud of the badge too.
@Michael Watson

Twilight was so excited to finally be at Hogwarts! They had been sorted into Ravenclaw, and they could not wait to start their new classes! But first, there was this awesome feast in front of them There were things they didn't recognize, but for the most part, they were able to make their plate with plenty of fresh vegetables and some roast chicken.

They looked around the Ravenclaw table as they started to eat, listening in on the conversations around them quietly. They were kind of nervous to speak up, what if they thought they were WEIRD, like had happened at their previous schools? They wanted to be themself so bad, and just act like nothing was wrong, but she was really anxious, actually. What if they didn't fit in here, either? They knew they were different than other kids, growing up. Strange things happened around them when she was emotional, and they were an emotional kid, so stuff happened a lot.

They listened to some of the older kids near them talk about Quidditch being a team player kind of sport. Yeah, that made sense from what Twily knew of the game. "Uhm, are you part of the Quidditch Team, then?" they asked the boy anxiously. "I'm kinda nervous about learning to fly. What if I fall, or the broom stops working in mid-air?" Their eyes were round with worry.
@Michael Watson

Veronique was not exactly excited about this sorting ceremony. She had just cried her eyes out last night as Marcel broke up with her. All she did was express her feelings and share how much she loved him, and even if they had only "officially" dated for 16 days, they had spent almost all of the 34 days they had known each other together, having dates and hanging out in some local cafes and the park. Those 34 days had been captured perfectly in her journal, and then it just all had to go and end so quickly. She'd mostly moped on the train, finding her own seat and sleeping a lot of the way. As they found their seats in the castle, Veronique sat near Marnie and Penny, both of whom had been named prefects. She just felt generally glum. As the noise started to carry throughout the hall, Veronique poked at some food on her plate. "Do you think I could ask one of the elves for like an ice cream sundae?" she asked generally to her friends.

This was so exciting! She had been sorted, and she was a ravenclaw. She was very happy with that. Hope glanced at the head master and nodded along with what he said, she would easily remember the different heads of houses. The food appeared and Hope just took a moment before taking anything to listen and watch those around her. "I'm sure when we learn to fly we stay close to the ground so not a big fall, and brooms don't just stop working, not unless they have a curse on them, which is super rare," Hope said to the person who was asking an older boy about quidditch.
@Twilight Ferngully

Michael gave a bit of a sheepish smile. His mum had been very proud of him, of course, though he was still a little in disbelief himself. He was distracted by one of the new first years, and turned to them with a look of sympathy. He was somewhat used to being a voice of reason, so maybe this wouldn't be too hard. "It's okay, it's a little bit scary when you first start," he admitted, not wanting to lie but wanting to be reassuring too. "I was kinda nervous when I started. But it's a bit like riding a bike - and the brooms have enchantments to be a bit like training wheels," he explained. He nodded at the other first year who piped up. "Yeah, that's exactly right. You start slow, start by learning to hover and get your balance, and then before you know it you're flying! Not everyone loves it, which is fair, it's not for everyone, but Professor Holland will make sure you learn safely and get the hang of it." He was kind of rambling a bit, and moved a hand to scratch his chin in mild embarrassment. "And hey, if you do like it and want to learn to play Quidditch from there, I'm happy to help."
@Twilight Ferngully @Hope Hare

Twilight listened to their fellow first year, and the older kid thoughtfully. "Yeah, it would make sense for us to start slow," they admitted. "I guess I've just never been that much of a fan of heights, but maybe if I'm able to fly, it won't be as bad any more because I know I can catch myself if I do fall." They went back to stuffing their face with roasted chicken, savoring the good meal as they ate some green beans as well.

"I hope I'll do good in classes. And I want to make friends, too," They said after a moment or so. "I was kinda the weird kid at my primary school."
