The Basics

Character's Name: Yuelia Charlotte Rossingol
Yuelia - an alternate spelling of the Russian Yulia, meaning 'youth'. 'Yue' comes from the Chinese name meaning 'moon'. The name was her mother's choice, an odd decision she insisted upon.
Charlotte - her mother's name, meaning 'free' or 'petite'.
Rossingol - a corrupted spelling over time of a name meaning 'nightingale'.

Character's Birthdate: 31 May 2045

Hometown: Hawke's Bay, New Zealand

Blood Status: Mixed blood. Both her parents were from magical families but neither were pure-blood.

Wand: Straight 14.5" Sturdy Walnut Wand with Boomslang Venom Core
Walnut - used by innovators and creative types, will do its owner's bidding unquestionably in the right hands.
Boomslang venom - good in transfiguration work, can boost the power of jinxes and hexes.

Hogwarts House: Slytherin (the hat did not deliberate long on this)

Appearance

Hair: Brown, kept around about shoulder length. She likes to put ribbons in it for variety.

Eyes: Dark brown.

Height: Fairly average height for her age, about 5'3" as of fourth year. She's a little slower to develop than some others and is still growing.

Style: A little eclectic and old fashioned. She likes ribbons, frills and lace but she knows its a bit uncool so she wants to try and modernize her style a bit. She isn't really used to muggle style fashion and is more used to wearing robes.

Other Distinguishing Features: A very piercing stare, like she's sizing you up. She is often accompanied by her raven, Thanatos, when she can justify bringing him out and about.

A Little Deeper

Personality:
Yuelia is a perfectly polite, almost doll-like young girl. She is not especially used to crowds and tends to keep to herself. She is very softly spoken and well mannered. At least, on the surface. When she duels, a more competitive side comes out, and she likes to act like a powerful sorceress, some kind of grand villain stopping all the heroes who come to defeat her. It is a little childish and she can get a bit embarrassed by it, but it comes with the adrenaline rush. But otherwise, she feels a bit hollow. As she's gotten older, she finds that she doesn't feel a lot of joy in her life and doesn't really know what she's doing or what she wants. She likes winning when she duels, but mostly because it feels like she has to in order to have something to show for herself. Yuelia struggles to talk to people sometimes beyond her pet raven, Thanatos, but she does genuinely want to understand others. She just thinks it would be easier if she could read their minds rather than trying to tease out thoughts and information with words.

Likes: Learning new and interesting things, experimenting, her dolls and stuffed animals, spellcasting, her raven, duelling, winning.

Dislikes: Losing, failure, dark and enclosed spaces, strenuous activity, loneliness, being laughed at.

Strengths: Natural talent for spellcasting, good manners (mostly), kindness to animals, some creativity.

Weaknesses: Lack of physical strength, difficulty understanding people, lack of passion.

Patronus: tba

Patronus Memory: tba

Boggart: Yuelia would see herself locked away in a dark, cramped birdcage, presumably by her father, alone and trapped.

Mirror of Erised: Yuelia would see herself as an adult, looking graceful and glamorous, standing proudly as a strong and capable sorceress, surrounded by people who respect and admire her.

Secrets: Yuelia is a sucker for cute things and has a collection of pretty dolls at home, as well as a couple of well loved stuffed toys - her favourite being an elephant named Mister Trumpets. She snuck him into school but she's a bit embarrassed about being seen as childish. She really wants to be able to animate her dolls and have a tea party with them but she'd be horribly embarrassed if anyone found out.

Goals: She had goals to succeed, but as school became more difficult and she found it harder to keep up she felt her goals slipping away. Now she's not really sure what she wants, or how to go about getting it, only that she just has to keep winning at duels and somehow obtain decent OWL and NEWT grades.

History: As long as she can recall, it's only been her and her father. Her father (and mother) attended Hogwarts in Scotland - he was a Slytherin, she was a Ravenclaw - and both bonded over a desire to push themselves as mages and attain greater heights in wizardry. But Yuelia never knew her mother, and her father was not forthcoming with the story, only saying that she abandoned the both of them. Soon after she was born, Leon had moved to New Zealand with his daughter to start a new life and that's all that she has known. She hardly saw the world outside their small home for the first ten years of her life, being homeschooled in literacy and numeracy to be able to go to Hogwarts in New Zealand when she was old enough. She lived a very lonely life, most of her company being her dolls and bothering her father when he wasn't too busy with work in potionmaking. She liked storybooks though quickly tired of reading the same ones over and over again. She impatiently waited for the day that her magic would show, and then again for the day that she was able to get her wand, practicing very basic charms with it as much as she could when she did.

Family: The only family she knows is her father, Leon, who is currently employed with St. Mungo's to brew antidotes and curative potions for the hospital. He would brew from their house until Yuelia got her Hogwarts letter, at which point he sought out a job that would pay better since he wouldn't need to be at home as much. He can be a little overprotective and inclined to lecture but he is very determined that his daughter succeed at Hogwarts, and that she is safe there as well. His familial nickname for her is 'little bird' or 'bluebird'.

Leon told her that her mother abandoned them both and left it at that. Charlotte was eccentric and brilliant, and the two of them had made an odd pairing - stern, austere Slytherin Leon and bright, lively Ravenclaw Charlotte. She unfortunately passed away in childbirth, and Leon didn't want to feel like he'd failed as a potionmaker or have Yuelia feel guilty over her birth, so he chose to blame Charlotte instead. It is perhaps a questionable way of coping but he is far too stubborn to change.
