The Basics
Character's Name: Michael Erasmus Watson
Given that his father was a muggle, his given name and surname are very ordinary muggle names - but his mother snuck in a more wizarding middle name as a reference to her own lineage (Erasmus meaning 'beloved'). She debated over Gabriel or Raphael before settling on Michael, having been fascinated by the archangel imagery. It helped that he was born on Michaelmas, which cemented the name choice.

Character's Birthdate: 29 September 2044. Michael is a Libra, and likes to keep things balanced and stable.

Hometown: Auckland, New Zealand. His parents are English, but his mother moved from London to Auckland shortly before Michael was born.

Blood Status: Half blood - witch mother, muggle father.

Wand: Curved 11.5" Flexible Wenge Wand with Phoenix Tail Feather Core
A wand that serves those who are even tempered and deliberate in their actions, with versatile application. Not the strongest of wands, but something that suits him perfectly.

Hogwarts House: Ravenclaw. It was a toss up between Ravenclaw and Slytherin, but to his relief the eagles won out.

Appearance
Hair: Dark brown

Eyes: also dark brown

Height: Now he's actually hitting growth spurts, he's about 5'3" with more room to grow. He's never going to be extremely tall, but he's growing and filling out a little bit as he goes into his teen years.

A Little Deeper
Personality: Michael is a sport nut first and foremost, but he has a rather measured way of enjoying it. He really likes to play sports - especially rugby and cricket (moreso the latter as he had been too short to be of much impact in rugby). He likes being involved in teams and working with people. He probably enjoys watching sports a bit more, interested in the strategy and the statistical analysis side of things. He likes to take things carefully and pays attention to detail, but he's still a boy who can get worked up in the moment and not think things through properly in the middle of a game of Quidditch. He tends to struggle with getting invested in things he's not particularly interested in. He's also a bit of a carer - while his mother takes good care of him, she struggles a bit herself and as Michael's gotten older he's found himself having to play more of an adult role whenever he's at home, which makes it harder for him to just be a kid and have fun with things. At least he's able to tell himself Quidditch is just a game (and sometimes even believe it).

History: Michael's life before Hogwarts was fairly ordinary. Although his mother had always been considered a little odd, and she didn't want him having people over, he attended a muggle school, played muggle sports, and generally was just a fairly average kid. He never excelled in any sports but he was a good team player, his school marks were pretty decent, and was typically considered pleasant and likeable enough. It was only when he was at home and his mother noticed some items hovering over to him like he had cast a summoning spell that things changed up, where she sat him down and told him about magic, even demonstrating some for him. That was quite the shock, especially when his life was going to be completely changed up. But, good natured as he is, he wasn't averse to learning magic and kind of interested to see what opportunities there would be. He sometimes still misses his old life but he tries not to show it.

Family: Michael's mother, Marcia Watson, is the daughter of a muggleborn wizard and mixed-blood witch. She attended Hogwarts where she, too, was sorted into Ravenclaw, but in her twenties struggled a bit with finding a place in the world, partying and having a bit of a rough time. It was at this point she had a brief dalliance with a muggle politician. She of course hid her nature from him, but didn't hide the fact that she was pregnant. As this would have been a disaster for his career, he paid her off to make herself scarce, which she didn't need to be asked twice to do. Knowing there was a community in New Zealand where, should her child be magical, he would be looked after (and that she wasn't going to suffer too much culture shock), she fled, living essentially as a muggle on the down low for a while while raising her son. Marcia was always a bit highly strung, and had it in her head that Michael might not end up being magical, so she didn't want to disappoint him. She was a bit overbearing with his safety, but a loving mother nonetheless. When his magic began to show, Marcia slowly began to explain the magical world to him, doubling down a bit on keeping him safe but glad she was finally able to share that side of life with him. Without her son at home as much, though, Marcia struggles a bit and Michael finds himself having to step up a bit more. She is flighty and anxious and a bit pessimistic, but sharp and astute.

As for his father, Michael doesn't even know his name, nor does he care to. His mother told him the story properly when he was old enough to understand it and he's not particularly interested in knowing anything else. He knows his father isn't interested in knowing him and he's happy enough with it just being him and his mother (though he wouldn't be upset if his mother did find someone).
