Open Y34 Club Fair

Poppy was quickly overwhelmed by all of the commotion in the courtyard and she stood frozen at the edge of the crowd, not sure where to begin. She had been looking forward to this all day! Since joining a club would be the surest way to make new friends.

She walked around all of the tables trying to see something she might like and was about to ask another student about one of the clubs but they looked so busy she thought it best not to bother them.

It wasn't until she saw a flower crown being waved around that she truly got excited and made her way over to that table, "Oh those are beautiful!" she beamed. "I'd love to join this club!"
((@Norton Gillespie ))

Freya hadn't intended on joining any clubs, especially not in her first year when everything was still overwhelming. Clubs were for people who liked commitment and throwing away their precious free time and Freya was not one of those people. Still, she just happened to be in the vicinity of the Club Fair and a bit of recon couldn't hurt. Freya was a simple girl - she saw a flower crown and she made a beeline towards the stall. "What's the Wild Patch Club?" she asked, before she could talk herself out of it.

Alistair glanced up as Leda approached him, and offered her a polite smile. "I'm not sure. Everyone was more interested in chatting to their own friends instead of being a part of the group, so what's the point? They can catch up in their own time, not mine." He told her with a restrained sigh. She may have enjoyed it, but he'd been disappointed by the outcome. If he did decide on some activity outside of the school, he doubted he'd go for the same location. His attention snapped away from Leda as another younger Slytherin joined, followed not long after by a few more kids. "First years have been allowed to join ever since I took over presidency. None of you asked, so I had to advertise it specifically this year." He stated with a furrowed brow. He had wanted to be more open and inclusive, especially with his focus shifting more toward the defensive side of the club, but these kids all seemed more interested in arguing and fighting with each other anyway. The teenager wasn't sure if he could handle any more of their back and forth right in front of his stall - no doubt scaring off potential members - and breathed a sigh of relief when Geo arrived. "Hey, welcome back. Feel free." He told her, happy to have more mature company, though equally surprised. Since when were people so social with him? This club leadership had changed a lot for the werewolf. This was not where he'd seen himself being at this age.

"Hi, Nora. You could say that again." Alistair continued, doing his best not to look pointedly at the two second years. Willow joined, and he greeted her too. "It was hilarious, I figured it would catch peoples attention and let them see that dueling can be fun. You should see the one with Dominique." He told her as he picked up a couple of the hex-deflecting ties he'd made. "I could use a hand, do you want to help give some of these out?" He asked the redhead, and turned to look at one of the other girls who had arrived as Willow responded to her."Exactly, you'll learn plenty in no time, and we can help you with practice and different ways to use them. There's a few advanced spells that aren't always covered enough in the curriculum that we can show you too." He added on. He'd enjoyed teaching Phoebe how to use Graviatus, and though that was way beyond the level of any first year, there were plenty of other uncommon or difficult spells to go over

Wendall did exactly what he was told by the Head Boy, and wrote his name down neatly on the sign up sheet. He actually managed to spell his own name wrong the first time though which defeated the point, but hopefully the brotherhood would still let him in when his name was next to a massive scribble. Once he was done, he turned back to the crowd, many more students now behind him, and the first year gave a wave to one of his newest friends. “Hi Lysander. Are you joining too?” He asked, it would be good for them to be able to play even though they were in different houses

Elio grinned upon hearing he would be allowed into the Brotherhood, putting his name down quickly. He’d seen a few other students asking around so it couldn’t have hurt, “Do you.. do you need any help with anything?” He asked, he did seem one is the older students joining the Brotherhood so the offer was there. He wanted to go and speak to a few other stands to but he still had plenty of time to help out where he could.

@Kauri Tipene

Geo smiled when Alistair let her rejoin, even if it was only for one year. She was happy enough to help out with the duels where she could, practical skills would come in handy in the real world after all. She overheard him telling one of the younger girls (Leda) something hadn’t been too much of a success, and once again Geo felt out of place. Had it really only been a year she’d been gone? She turned when she was spoken to by Willow, the familiar red head had grown considerably since they last met. “Hey!” She grinned, recalling that day on the lawn. She chuckled, “No not quite. I was in Scotland last year but I’m back to graduate!” She felt she’d be explaining that for a while. “Congratulations by the way,” she added, pointing to the badge pinned to her chest.

Naturally, Alec was excited about the spells that she wasn’t going to be taught, “Why don’t they teach everything?” She asked with a frown towards the older students. What if someone needed to know? Were extra lessons that could be taken to make up for it? The first year watched as the blonde guy gave the red head something to hand out, “Can I have some too?” She asked. If they weren’t allowed to even duel this year they should have been allowed to do something else.

@Alistair Lancaster @Willow Cullen

Leda was somewhat disappointed when Alistair said he probably wouldn’t be doing it again. It had made a change to be out somewhere that wasn’t just in the castle. She watched as a pile on students swarmed in on the club, although there was one student who quickly began to get on her nerves. The Cullen girl was here too and trying to get herself noticed by handing something out. Making a scoffing noise, Leda quickly turned away from the stand to leave them to it.

She headed over instead to Sophie at the Hogwarts Monthly, noticing hers was much quieter. “Anyone new joined the newspaper yet?” She asked hopeful. There work was out for the whole school to read once a semester so it couldn’t have been that no one knew about what they did. Of course Leda already had her own plans for the paper this year, and she’d made a mental note of who she wanted to approach in a few weeks time.

@Sophie Wilson

Maggie was still bitter about everything that happened over the break. It was meant to be fun but she’d ended up making the whole situation with her brother worse, and now Chaser was dating Aminia again, and she hated the horrible Ravenclaw after what she did. Maggie had taken herself down to the club fair to try and distract herself, but the only thing she believed she would enjoy was a club that she could do more of her drawing in. The options here seemed a little difficult to get to grips with.

The Hufflepuff was standing next to one of the stalls that a few students were at, and she was going over some of the recent work of the Hogwarts Monthly. Mini had worked for this back when she first joined the school, but that didn’t stop the fifth year having a glance through the articles.

@Sophie Wilson

Hogwarts Monthly had bever been a very busy club, which was one of the reasons Sophie liked it so much. She watched how kids crowded around the tables of Heta Omega and SDA and was grateful for the calm at her own table. She knew it probably looked kind of strange, her standing here on her own, but she knew people would come eventually. She hoped Joshua would join her soon, as her assistant editor she would like his presence at the fair. But Leda found her way over first, and Sophie just shook her head at her question. "Not yet." She said calmly. "But I prefer that over the situation over at Alistair's table." She added with a slight smirk. A younger girl came and looked at the papers lying around, and Sophie looked at her. "Are you thinking of joining?" She asked the girl.

Emilia gave the young girl a bright smile when she complimented her effort with the bracelets. "Of course you can." She said as the girl wondered if she could keep it. She wasn't really sure why the lego pieces over at the brotherhood table were drawing so much attention. But she supposed she had grown a bit too old for that. Emilia smiled as Amy walked up to them. She remembered the girl from last year, her little sister. "Thank you Amy, do you want a bracelet or a cookie?" Emilia asked the girl gently. "You can help pass them out to new members, if you want." She added. It was nice that the girl wanted to help out.

There was a smile on her face when she found the club she had heard. The dark-haired boy took his steps forward to sign up for a club at school. For the first time she saw so many people here, feeling a bit unusual for so many people, but it was a club and she wanted to join and also find some new friends. She missed the beautiful countryside of Tasmania, but here the school was like a fairy tale or a dream she didn't want to wake up from. Hey, can i join to? Andrea spoke a little with a quieter voice and cheekbones.

Norton didn’t have to wait long before he was approached by Alice, he knew the girl was Rose’s sibling and he smiled widely at her, ”Of course, just talk up the club and get people to sign up,” Norton said with a wide smile, and he didn’t even have to wait long after that for another boy who offered his help. Norton had seen the boy around hufflepuff and just nodded, ”Of course, the more the merrier,” Norton smiled at him, ”Just get folk to sign up,” he repeated what he had said to Alice to this boy. Before turning back to the front in case anyone wanted to join the club. A young first year girl approached them and asked about the flower crowns, ”We do make them, here have one,” Norton offered it to her, ”We also do lots more, we plant flowers, vegetables, herbs,” Norton liked the flowers more than anything else. When she asked if she could join Norton nodded excitedly, ”Of course, here you go!” He handed her a sign up sheet so that she would be able to sign herself up. Another girl walked up to them and like the one before complimented the flower crowns. Norton held out another one for this new girl to take before getting another sign up sheet and handing it to her, ”Great, just sign your name there,” Norton told her before glancing to the newest person, who was asking about the club, ”The wild patch is many things but what we do primarily is planting, there’s a little section of the gardens outside just for us. We plant flowers, specifically roses but also some herbs and vegetables. We host events too and have in the past helped out at the rose giving event at Valentines and run the schools LGBTQ+ event at the end of the year,” Norton said, ”Is that something that would interest you?”

Vader was surprised when someone approached his table not too long after the boy had finished setting up, the girl was looking at the pictures, some of which he had taken and some that others had taken, showcasing all of the talent of the Accio photography team. He nodded at the question though, ”I do, I don’t take all of the pictures for Accio, but Photography is my biggest passion so even if I’m doing it for accio I’m doing it for myself,” Vader told her with a little smile, he wondered if she was interested in photography, interested in joining Accio, before he could expand on it or ask any questions to the young girl, a boy a little younger than him was asking what the club was. He knew that given how Accio operated that they weren’t the most visible club and some might not know who they were, ”This is Accio, aka the yearbook,” the boy said, he took the most recent yearbook and held it out to the boy, ”That’s what we produce at the end of every year, I’m the current editor and we have a small team that work together to produce it. Accio’s a bit more difficult to join than other clubs, people need to have an interest and a whole lot of time,” Vader explained, trying to both say what the club was and explain why they maybe wouldn’t know it that well. ”Are either of you interested in filling out an application? We don’t accept everyone but we give everyone a fair shake,”

Ajaccio always joined a multitude of clubs at the schools he went to, but Ajax hadn’t been sure what he wanted to join here. In fact as he stepped into the great hall, he was surprised by how busy it was. Ajaccio didn’t tend to be at schools at the beginning of the year where he might be able to join them the normal way. He glanced around the room, quickly signing his name to the wild patch club, and grabbing a flower crown and placing atop his mesh of unruly curls. It sat a bit awkward, creating an even more bird’s nest look than normal. He spotted Wendall at a stall that had the words brotherhood above and Ajax decided if it was good enough for Star Lord then it was good enough for him. Ajax walked over, ”Hey man,” he greeted the boy he knew warmly before letting his gaze shift to the club leader, ”Where do I sign?” he asked excitedly, he didn’t need to know what they did to want to immediately sign up.

Sydney didn't bother to smother her laugh at Holland's protest. "Can you?" She scoffed. She tried not to bristle at the club president's comments. It didn't matter anyway, what was the point if first years still couldn't duel. "Guess you'll just have to prove it." Sydney said simply back to Holland, scowling at the older girl who'd pushed between them before grabbing the list to sign herself up. If they ever got a chance to practice with older students, Sydney made a note to make sure she got to try a few hexes on the older Slytherin, since she clearly thought herself above all this. It was starting to get too crowded in here, but Sydney made a point to pass Holland the sign up sheet meaningfully before she made her way out of there.

Eleanora had been excited to go to the club fair with her brother, and Spencer. Clubs sounded like so much fun! And maybe since they were all in separate houses joining a club together would be a good way to make sure they could have time together. As they entered the hall Ellie followed her brother to the booth with the lego right away. That looked like fun! Her excitement didn't last long though as she quickly realized this was a club only for boys. She waited while Lysander asked his questions, and then nudged him to point out a booth that was covered in flower crowns. Ellie made her way over to the booth, and was delighted to find out they were giving away the crowns. "Could I please have a crown? We help our aunt grow potion ingredients! Do you grow any magical plants?" Ellie asked the boy who seemed to be running the booth.

Jacinta smiled when she was given a flower crown."Thanks," she said. She signed the sign up sheet she had been given and handed it back to the boy."Thanks again!" She left the table and had a little more of a wander. She thought the Defense Association, but didn't really like the look of the scene surrounding the table. She decided to steer clear of that and move on. Joining one club seemed like enough, and the Wild Patch Club seemed like fun.

@Norton Gillespie

Poppy took the flower crown and excitedly put it on her head. "Thank you!" She listened as the older student explained what the club did and it sounded perfect for her. She would feel right at home in a garden and get to meet new people at the same time! "Yes, that sounds great!" she said as she signed her name on the list. ((@Norton Gillespie ))

She waved goodbye to the Wild Patch table before taking one last look around the hall to see if anything else interested her. There was one table that was less crowed then the rest and she went to check it out. It had newspapers laid out and she picked up one of the issues. A newspaper?! How fascinating! She wasn't sure why she was surprised that wizards had newspapers too. "Do students actually write all of this?" she asked the girl at the table.
((@Sophie Wilson ))

The club fair was a lot. Kas shuffled through the surrounding students, trying to get a peak at some of the booths without accidentally making eye contact with anyone at them until he was sure he was accidentally interested. The last thing he wanted to do was make polite conversation with someone in some club and then awkwardly make his escape before they could ask him to sign up. Moving near some booths that were slightly less populated, he spotted a booth with some posters and pages scattered about. Skirting a little closer, Kas decided to risk instigating conversation, a bit intrigued at the idea of the year book. "So do you guys just take pictures and stuff?" He asked the kinda stressed looking boy manning the booth. Kas wasn't super familiar with cameras or anything, but the idea appealed a lot more than some of the other clubs around here.

Maggie was trying to read through the latest articles but was finding some wording particularly difficult. She looked up when the Head Girl started talking to her, a little shrug on her shoulders “I do not think many would want to hear my words,” she replied, her thick Korean accent always heavy on her tongue despite being in New Zealand for four years. “I do not always have the right words to say, or know what to say.” Her vocabulary wasn’t quite as strong as others people’s and so she knew it may have been better suited to someone to could create a more engaging read. “They look nice though,” she added with a smile, at least, from what she could tell it looked nice.

@Sophie Wilson

Tres thanked Emilia for letting her keep the bracelet, and wondering what other clubs were available, headed off to see what else could find. She wasn’t sure fighting nor writing was for her, but she was still interested to know who was signing up for what. At the back of her mind though, Tres was just excited to be able to spend time with a bunch of girls as a second family, and wondered if Uno had already signed up too.

Ilija was glad when he was allowed to help others sign up with Alice for the Wild Patch, not that he knew how best to advertise it. He listened in to what Norton was doing, and while as a new member himself he didn’t know exactly what was in offer, he still wanted to attempt to make an effort. He turned to one of the younger students, hoping a one on one would be less intimidating situations. “What is your favourite plant to grow?” He asked her when she mentioned she grew plants at her Aunts. His own parents had a patch of shrubbery in the back garden, so he had a few favourites of his own too.

@Eleanora Summers

Juno listened as the boy explained about Accio! She hadn’t even been aware there was an actual year book but it did sound like a good idea to keep memories in. It was a little intimidating though, if she ever left the school she would always be in there too. She smiled when he mentioned photography though. “Do you have any photos of the stars?” She would have happily handed over all the galleons for some of those to put in the dreery dungeons she now had to live in. She painted things herself, but it wasn’t quite as good as an image of the real thing.

@Vader Hume

Lysander listened intently as the Head Boy explained that the Brotherhood was not in fact all about evil mutants who assemble lego, but instead a place for boys to get to know each other and do fun things, which was certainly right up the young boy's alley. He turned his head when Wendall spoke up from beside him, and offered his friend a grin. "Heck yes! We can sign up together." He told him, taking the sign-up sheet after he was done with it. He glossed over the list, giving Wendall a curious look when he noticed the massive scribble he'd managed to write down, before signing off his own name right underneath. "Thanks! I'm looking forward to it!" He said to Kauri as he handed the sheet back over. There was no more time to hang about and ask questions before Ellie was dragging him off to the next stall, and it was all Sander could do to wave goodbye to Wendall in the process.

The Wild Patch was a club Lysander hadn't seen when he first entered the courtyard, but now he wondered how he'd missed it. It was a nice reminder of his aunt's plants, something he was going to miss now that he could only see her during the holidays, and he hoped that the club would be able to help ease that, "Could I have a crown too?" Lysander asked, stopping when he overheard an older boy talking to his sister. "Oh hi, you're the guy from Dervish! Ellie, he sold me my Kida and Scarlet figurines!" He told her. They were among some of the toys he'd brought along, though both still sat waiting to be unpacked from his bags. "Are you in this club as well?"
