Y48 Start of Year Feast

Audrey wondered if she'd hit her head on the train and was hallucinating - no, a cute boy had appeared in her life and seemed actually somewhat interested in her. Well, of course that was bound to happen, she was pretty great. And she had a shiny new prefect's badge on her robes. Of course that made sense too, she was very smart and played Quidditch and was in a few different clubs. Still, she was a little in disbelief, kind of waiting for the other shoe to drop. "Wonder what happened there," she muttered, her fork hovering over her food as she pondered. She wanted to shovel food into her mouth, as she was pretty hungry, but she was distinctly aware of Loki sitting next to her and had to put in an effort to being pretty and feminine so as not to suddenly make her OWL year immediately embarrassing and awful.

Remy had spent his final train ride to Hogwarts by himself and wasn't caught up on the school gossip, so the headmaster's speech had been a surprise. After dropping off the face of the earth in his third year and trying to cut ties with the magical world, any relationships he'd cultivated had fallen apart, so it likely didn't affect anyone he knew. Bullying was a standard part of school, in his experience, so Remy didn't pay it much attention. He instead started filling his plate as the food appeared, surreptitiously scanning the tables for any faces he recognized among the other students.

Vanity frowned a little as Morrie said her hair was fine, she gave the girl a skeptical look. "It looks like you rolled around in the forest or something- c'mon it's such a pretty color, it's such a shame." She said, pulling the big puppy eyes that never had any effect on her brother on her parents. Maybe Morrie would be different. She sighed as Morrie pulled away from her. "In the common room, then." She said decidedly, clapping the compact shut. "You know, I might give my badge back if they make me work together with June. Or throw it in the lake or something, all dramatic."

@Morrie Ayre

Hazel always tried to make sure not to sit near Vanity and Morrie at any feasts, but not too near June either. She wanted nothing to do with any of them, if she was honest. It did mean she was now sitting near Miroslav, which was also unfortunate. She honestly didn't mind Slytherin, but some of the people here truly just... sucked. She sighed. "Bet you had something to do with it." She muttered into her potatoes, rolling her eyes.

Eoghan was sat quietly beside Lilith, trying not to make eye contact with her because he knew that if he did he wouldn't be able to control the flush that rose to his cheeks. That was the trouble these days, he had to keep his distance if he was going to keep this a secret. He'd told himself over the summer that it would be better this way, that Lilith didn't need to know what was going on in his head but was if he was making things worse for the both of them in doing so?

"What?" Eoghan jumped when Lili poked him lightly, turning his head in her direction although still struggling to make eye contact. "I don't know what happened," In truth he hadn't really been listening either, but as the brunette told him that she didn't want him to be alone if he was hurt, the blond began to nod lightly, "Sure." There was so much swimming around the Ravenclaw's head that he knew this year was going to be tougher than his last. His best friend however seemed to quickly be distracted looking for her favourite professor, and as Eoghan scanned his eyes across the table at the front of the hall he had to agree that Professor Odegard wasn't there. He was about to make a joke that maybe he'd left, but knowing that Lili would have been crushed to picture her Transfiguration lessons without him, Eoghan thought better of it. "He's probably.. engaged."

Lilith stared at Eoghan and saw something being amiss in his answering 'sure' but she ignored it, tucking it in the far corners of her mind because she wasn't going to leave it completely untouched. Her eyes grew in size by at least ten times at the boys words. ENGAGED? "WHAT? Surely not?" Oh she was well aware he was her professor after all and he was older than her by quite a few years... It didn't mean the thought shattered her little twelve-year-old silly little crush. "Engaged, what do you mean? Antares what do you mean? Tell me right now. Do you know something? Is he engaged? Do you know?" Lilith turned to look for Elijah who was sat somewhere near her, needing to know if she was left out of some information. She would have to ask Tori if she'd seen her on her first lesson as they started up.

Eoghan was surprised at Liliths sudden outburst, especially since their whisperings were starting to gain attention. He didn’t think ot would have been such a big deal, and it took him a moment to realise Lili really was concerned about his. “I don’t know, probably? When you’ve got to go you’ve got to go,” he shrugged, glancing between his friend and the professors table. Surely he’d be back any moment from the bathroom.

Lilith almost burst into tears. "You mean he is ENGAGED and has left the school because he had to go when he had to go to get married." She could practically see her small world ending, not the start of the year she had hoped for. This was terrible, she had little hope for it to have a positive outcome, yet she held onto that kernel of hope like it was all she had.

“I mean he had to…” Eoghan had tried to be polite about this whole thing but now he was just making Lilith cry. “Helga’s horns Lil, he’s probably taking a piss,” Eoghan shot back towards the Ravenclaw, the tone in his voice sharp as the embarrassment of spelling it out with vulgarity shone on his cheeks. He could only hope that one day she would be this upset at finding out he was getting married, though quickly shook off the thought because it was incredibly unbestielike.

Lilith's emotional outburst came to a sudden halt, oh- OH that was what he had meant. Mirroring Eoghan's reaction she felt a flush rise to her cheeks at the awkward conversation and situation they found themselves having. "Oh! Right yes of course. I knew that..." She tried to recover from it, pretend as though she hadn't just had a whole meltdown over nothing. "Right, I am sorry, for my silly little outburst, I just thought for a second we'd have a new professor and it threw me off you know." Lilith tried to explain, gods this might have been the most embarrassing moment yet.

Morrie scowled, her hand hovering over her fork as she briefly wondered if Vanity wanted said fork in her eye. Maybe that was Vanity’s plan all along, wind Morrie up to get injured enough that she would get out of her prefect duties. Morrie eased up a bit when the compact closed, though her expression stayed as sour. Her hand moved away from her fork to pick up her goblet of pumpkin juice and take a sip. She nearly spat it out at what Vanity said next, “Or,” Morrie said, wiping her mouth and smirking cruely, “we could throw June in the lake instead. Problem solved.”
@Vanity Mettlestone

Vanity noticed how Morrie didn't respond to her question about brushing her hair in the common room, and she decided to take that as assent. It was the sort of thing friends did, right? She frowned a bit at her reaction to her idea of throwing the badge in the lake. She had thought it was a cool mental image. All tragic and dramatic. In her imagination she had been wearing a long frilly dress, her hair blowing in the wind as she watched the badge slowly disappear below the surface.

Morrie's idea was fun, but it didn't quite fit that image. "I imagine that would be a lot noisier." She said with a small smile. "I bet she'd scream." Vanity highly doubted they could get away with something like that, but it was a funny mental image. Her parents had hardly scolded her for the thing with June over break, but they had looked at her with a new distaste which didn't sit well with Vanity. They still ignored her, which also sucked. If she was acting out, couldn't it at least give her some attention? "I don't want to scrub cauldrons in the dungeons again." She muttered. "Did your parents end up giving you crap for what happened last year?" She then asked, as she knew Professor Alcott-Ward had informed them too.

@Morrie Ayre

Cyrus had had a nice break. He'd spent a lot of it writing, writing out his feelings for Kairi enough that he got the feeling he was sort of over that whole crush. He'd written some good poems as a result though, which was nice. He also had gone with Magne on his boat for a bit, which had been a nice experience. Cyrus sat near his friend and looked at him in confusion at the headmaster's words. "I wonder what happened." He mused out loud.

Professor Zumwalt enjoyed the Start of Year Feast. The energy was much better than the end of the year, in her opinion, and she loved getting to watch the sorting ceremony, seeing each first year find their new home, whether they knew it was where they were meant to be or not. She knew many struggled with trying to fit into what a house stood for, but it took a little bit of age for Adorah to realize that sometimes, you were meant to be there for a time and not to be defined by that house for eternity.

As the Headmaster reminded them about not bullying, Adorah took a sip of her tea and looked over at Noel before seeing Samantha in her periphery. It was exciting to have one of her closest friends from their school time back at Hogwarts, but it was also anxiety-inducing. Five people from their class worked here, and it always worried Adorah that one day, she was going to get thrown back to mindsets from her teenage self. "I hope the students that were bullied are okay," she said to her boyfriend. @Professor Noel Waldgrave

Callie blushed deeply when Dante moved to sit with them. Having switched tables to join them. She gave him a little smile and though she moved to make space for him, she then leaned a little into him. "Whatever happened," she motioned to the head master. "For him to bring it up, you know," she said.

Magne was pretty sure that his best friend was Cyrus, so he leaned in as the boy spoke. "Yeah," he agreed. He had known bullying at other schools could happen, but people had been kind to him when they probably could've been mean to him. "You'd tell me, if someone was picking on you right?" he asked his friend.

Tempest had taken the break to really reflect over what she wanted to do after graduation, and she had decided that she wanted to work in magical law. However, it meant that she would have to work her butt off to get the appropriate NEWT grades to make that happen. She wasn't sure what exactly she wanted to do, but she wanted to make sure that the people who tore her family apart, or people like them, went away for good. It felt very anti-Slytherin of her in some ways, but also, very Slytherin, just her version. She was feeling better about herself and life now that she wasn't dreading every second of every day. Maybe it was the mindfulness practice she had embraced last year or maybe it was Maybelline just overall growth, but Tempest was here to take the year by storm. As the headmaster spoke about bullying, Tempest wasn't surprised to hear the murmurs from around the Great Hall, but seeing as she knew zero of the gossip, she decided to ignore it and start gathering some food so she could head back to her room to study once they were released.

Bea was neither excited nor unexcited about being back at school. She had enjoyed her break and getting to skate again, where as now, she had to catch up with magic she hadn't been allowed to practice during the summer. The Ravenclaw sat nicely next to her sister and near a few classmates as she listened intently to the sorting ceremony, clapping politely as each person joined their new house. She wondered if she could convince the hat to take Maggie somewhere else, as she didn't think her twin was as Ravenclaw-esque as Bea was. After the headmaster encouraged the students to be kind to each other, Bea thought about things for a moment before grabbing something to eat, starved from the long train ride to school.

Cyrus grabbed a chicken leg and put it on his plate, surprised at Magne's words. He hesitated. Did he just say that to be nice, or did he think Cyrus was a likely target for bullies? He supposed he wasn't wrong about that, though it thankfully hadn't happened to him. "Yeah, sure." He said hesitantly. "You too, okay?" He asked, though he wasn't sure what he would do if Magne did come to him. Beat them over the heat with his poetry book? Going to a teacher was probably a better option, actually.
