Hufflepuff Quidditch Practice

Elliot tried to take heart in the fact that even though he was coming up short in his sweeping search for the snitch, it didn't seem like April had either. He was trying to focus hard on his own search rather than just following her around the pitch, though it was tempting. He trusted he could hopefully catch the snitch eventually on his own steam, he was just worried about it taking all practice..

Patrick tried not to let any of the other team members distract him from finding a bludger and hitting it. He needed to focus, even if this wasn't a real game, as every hit counted and he wanted to do his best this year to help his team win. When he saw a bludger coming his way he swung his bat right back to hit it, but had missed it completely. Annoyed at himself, Patrick just kept looking for more.

Amy listened to the captain and nodded. She flew behind the others for a little bit, just watching what they did. It was a very different experience being in the air compared to watching. She was worried that she might not be as good as the other, but tried to remind herself that they had played together before. Still, she flew along beside them, just in case they needed to pass to her.

Therese looked as the next chaser Abian took possesion of the quaffle and was kind of glad April told them to take some larger lap on the field before trying again. Because otherwise she had tons of attempts to hold. Not that, that wasn't a good practice though. She kept an eye on the chaser that seemed to be getting closer.

April gave Elliot a thumbs up as she passed him. She had the feeling he was very nervous about all this, and wanted to encourage him. "You can do it!" She called to him. Normally she would be more competitive, but she felt differently now that she was captain. She felt responsible for all the kids here, and wanted each of them to feel good.

Abian noticed Amy flying nearby and gave her a smile. But he wanted to try scoring on his own first, even if that was perhaps a little selfish. He soon regretted it though, as the quaffle was blocked by Therese. He sighed, then flew off so others could get a chance.

Elliot smiled when April flew past, returning her thumbs up a little late. He appreciated her encouragement, he didn't feel like they were really competing at all, honestly, which helped with some of the nerves. Though not all of them. He wasn't expecting to be magically better than someone who'd been on the team for so long, though it would be nice to feel a bit less like he was flying uselessly in circles.

April flew a circle around the pitch, seeing no sign of the snitch. It was difficult to focus on her own task as well as what the rest was doing, and she realized that she would really have to focus on the snitch in an actual game.

Taking a few breaths, Elliot continued methodically scanning the pitch. The snitch was here somewhere, he just had to have patience. As if sensing his renewed focus, Elliot had to double take when his eye scanned over something glimmering over near where the chasers were practicing mid-field. Clenching his broom tightly, Elliot swooped over towards them, shouting a quick "Excuse me!" to Abian and Amy as he squeezed past. It seemed like he'd managed to sneak up on the snitch thanks to the rest of the team somewhat blocking his approach and the snitch had barely began to pull away when Elliot's hand closed around it. Coming to a jerky stop, Elliot nearly slid off his own broom as he paused to look at the snitch clasped in his glove.

April was certainly surprised when Elliot managed to get the snitch. She had been keeping an eye on him, but only saw the snitch when his hand closed around it. She felt a mixture of emotions. She was both proud of the boy and annoyed she hadn't gotten to it first. Was this what it was like to be captain? At least she knew the team wouldn't be left without any talent when she graduated. "Good job!" She shouted. "Now let it go so I can catch it next!" She grinned.

Analei grabbed the quaffle after Abian attempted his shot, and flew away from the hoops, when she was about half way across the pitch, she grinned at the chaser next to her (*) before throwing the Quaffle towards them.

(*) Can be any chaser ^_^

Amy was flying behind the older girl who had the Quaffle, just keeping an eye out. She flew a little faster, hoping to get next to her for a pass. Thankfully, the girl did pass, Amy really needed to learn her teammates names, and she caught it. She returned the grin and flew on, the Quaffle under her arm. She kept an eye out for another chaser, hoping to pass it to them.

Elliot ducked his head when April congratulated him, quickly letting the snitch go and watching it immediately zip off across the pitch again. He was probably imagining the indignant way it seemed to swerve past his left ear. Catching his breath a little, Elliot slowly let his broom rise a few more feet above the rest of the action on the pitch before resuming his sweep. Maybe he could do this.

Therese was suprised by the younger alternate chaser who seemed to be getting the snitch. She smiled bright and was glad the whole team seemed to be working hard. The brunette hold the next attempt from Abian and was glad she still got it. Therese than focused again and saw Analei getting the quaffle and than threw it to another one. That was kind of sportive from her and they needed to work together too. She moved on her broom to try and hold the quaffle in the next attempt to score.

Elliot was amazed at how fast he immediately lost sight of the snitch again. Taking a moment to cheer on Amy as she caught the quaffle before refocusing on scanning the pitch again. He was starting to get the flow of how games might go, though it was nice to not have the added fear of bludgers just yet.

While April was glad Elliot had managed to get the snitch, she kind of wanted to get it herself too now. It was a bit annoying to be beaten by a third year, especially as she was now the team's captain. But the snitch was nowhere to be seen, which was very annoying.

After his failed attempt, Analei grabbed the quaffle and she passed it over to Amy, the new Alternate chaser. It was pretty funny how all the chasers on the team now had names starting with an A. Abian flew over to assist if needed, though he was curious if the girl would try to score herself or if she would pass it to someone else.

April scanned the sky for any sign of the snitch, frowning in irritation as she saw nothing. She feared that Elliot would get it again before she did. That would be embarrassing, and she didn't want to be embarrassed in front of her team. She had to get it.

Amy grinned towards Elliot when he cheered for her, but quickly focused back on the game. She had a chaser flying near her, and wanted to hand the Quaffle on. Waiting until she was confident she could throw it well, Amy threw it towards the boy. Learn the names of your teammates! she thought. It was going to be hard to play a real game not knowing everyone's names.

((@Abian Hunter))

Abian was a little surprised when Amy passed the quaffle to him, but he grinned at her. "Awesome pass!" He said encouragingly, then he flew up to the hoops and attempted to score again. To his dismay, he failed, again. He sighed deeply. Why was this going so badly?

Elliot wasn't sure how April handled the pressure so effortlessly during games. It was hard enough to search when they were just practicing, he couldn't imagine how it felt with everyone in the stands and the beaters gunning for you too. Taking a moment to recollect, Elliot pulled up high above the pitch, trying not to let the distance from the ground distract him as he tried to zone in on the snitch from the higher vantage point.

Therese seemed to be doing well so far. And the chasers were playing as a team and passing to eachother. Therese figured that was really good, they were a team. And she liked everybody so far in the team. Not that she had disliked anyone ever in her life, but she always felt really happy being in Hufflepuff were most people seemed to be kind to eachother. She noticed Amy passing the quaffle and stayed alert for Abian that came in her way. Therese catched the quaffle before it would go through the hoops and smiled for a moment. But she wanted the chaser to score too, but she needed the practice as well. Holding the quaffle was important so that the other team would not score points. She was satisfied so far about her own.

On his search for another bludger, Patrick soon became distracted as an alternate seeker had caught the snitch. This was quite shocking to the Hufflepuff who thought that April would be the first one to catch it. As April told everyone to keep playing, Patrick shrugged and did so, trying to find and hit more bludgers but failing to do so yet.

It was tiring being so alert for so long, Elliot wondered how the others players did it, considering they had other balls to keep an eye on rather than just the snitch (and maybe the bludgers). He took a moment to stretch out his fingers before resettling his grip and drifting slowly near the south end of the pitch. He thought he'd seen something moving that way but it seemed like it was just the wind.

Analei caught the Quaffle from Therese before zooming away with it again, remembering their captains advice. Analei threw the ball to one of the other chasers again, although she really wanted to attempt a goal again.
