Hufflepuff Quidditch Practice Y40/S1

René took a moment to catch his breath and get himself situated back on his broom properly, checking over shoulder few times just in case the bludger wanted another go.

Tilly circled the pitch and wondered if she'd lost her skills with age.

Lucas was still lookin´.

Leonardo threw the ball and was very disappointed when he missed. He'd definitely missed more times that he'd won, but he was happy to keep trying.

Lucas didn´t spot the snitch anwhere.

Felix kept looking for the snitch and frowned because it felt like it was taking forever.

Back on his broom properly and feeling a bit sheepish, René adjusted his bat, deciding to take it slow for a bit as he looked around for the bludgers.

Connor's already frayed nerves burned with frustration when he heard Linden running his mouth again. "LINDEN! YOU'RE NOT THE BLOODY CAPTAIN!" He snapped, flying towards the hoops. "STOP telling other players what to do and focus on yourself! I've given you instructions twice now, either follow them, or you'll be benched for the next match!"
@Linden Cullen

Jordie had just caught the quaffle as it was tossed back in when Connor flew in to yell at Linden. Jordie froze, his mouth hanging open. What in the world? That was such a harsh way to talk to Linden, Jordie didn't understand why Connor was so mad at him.

Linden watched as Leo did a lap of the pitch he was glad to see him take his advice as he shot. she gave him a thumbs up and a smile encouragingly as he threw the quaffle in. glad to see that Jordie had caught it. he was pulled away from watching him take to the full way by the sound of his name being bellowed from across the pitch. he looked up to see Connor flying towards him rage in his face and to be honest looking rather intimidating. "you're lettin' the power get to your f-ing head mate" he said calmly though the increase in his accent indicating his annoyance. he wasn't going to be spoken to like that. first-time sure Connor was the captain, and maybe testing his boundaries and limits and maybe his joke about being hit through the goals was not that funny. But this, this was ridiculous. "what is the bloody point of having a keeper during training if not to help the chasers work on how to score goals. otherwise, I am just here as a pretty face doing nothing for most of the time, you can get any first-year to play catch" he called his own voice rising. "Amy was fine with getting tips, Elliott never told me not to even though I was only new to the team then." he said back. "Would it be different if I was a chaser giving another chaser tips? because, mate, what's the bloody difference," he said lowering slowly. if this was how ie was going to be treated at training then he was not going to be at training. the only reason he had joined the team initially was not any desire to play quidditch, it was because he liked the team culture, the mateship and comradery. the last year or two he had started to enjoy the sport but if the team atmosphere wasn't there then neither was he.

Connor had to bite back a groan of frustration at Linden's comment about power. Connor had never wanted any power, and now that he had it he felt like a fraud, like he shouldn't be here. But here he was, and he knew it was his responsibility to make sure his team was doing what they were supposed to. He couldn't quite hold back a snort when Linden asked what the point of a Keeper was, wondering in disbelief why the boy had signed up for the position if he didn't think it mattered. "It's not your job to give tips!" He snapped. "The point of having a Keeper is to Keep, not to tell other players how to play their positions! And the point of playing on a team is to work with your team and follow instructions! You're not a captain, you're not a coach, you're a Keeper, and you've been given instructions. If your team can't rely on you to follow instructions, they can't rely on you in a match. I don't care what Amy or Elliot said, I'm in charge now, and you need to listen to me and do your job. This is your last warning." He said firmly, giving Linden a cold look before he turned and flew away, not leaving any room for argument, and to give himself a chance to bite back the tears he could feel forming. He was sick of this, sick of always having to be the angry one. Times like this he could feel how much pain Eric must always be in. But if the team couldn't rely on one of their members to do what he was supposed to in practice, how were they supposed to rely on him during a game? And it was Connor's job to make sure everyone was doing what they were told. His job to be the bad guy. Again.

linden listened to connor talking at him. "Exactly. the point of being on a team is to work WITH your team. WITH. " he said back by now his feet were almost on the ground. he had never taken after the rowan side of the family, he didn't have a temper like his mum and sister. but he felt the heat of the fire rising inside him now and it scared him. quidditch seemed to be bringing out the worst in him and he didn't like it. his feat touched the floor and he dismounted his broom before he did something or said that he would rather regret. "yes I'm a keeper. but keep talking like that and you won't be keeping me for long." he said moving towards the changing rooms. his skin prickling as he tried to push down the anger and frustration. he had just been doing his job. how was training going to work when only one player could offer any kind of advice. how would that one player know what kind of advice to offer if he had never played at goals before. how would that one player give advice when he was too busy playing his own positon to watch the others. yes, lin was busy with his own role too but most of that was waiting as the chasers did a lap. before he had a few seconds of action catching and tossing the ball. by now he was off the pitch and running through the corridor taking a door at random he found himself in the empty Gryffindor change room all red and fire, where his sister and his mum had played, where they had likely let their rowan red tempers fly when their captains had told them to ease back. He sank to the floor his back against the wall as he tried to calm himself

René eyes bugged when Connor rounded on Linden and the two argued, bludgers and even his own bat half-forgotten in his hand as he tried to look very busy flying nearby despite how obviously he must be listening. He startled when Connor flew away from the interaction and Linden shot off from the pitch, an uneasy feeling in his stomach with how tense the atmosphere on the pitch felt.

Connor could have screamed in frustration when linden continued to act like he didn't know he was doing anything wrong. He bit back a remark about the other boy being the one refusing to work with the team, trying to calm himself down and stay focused on the players who were actually willing to work as a team. "Rene, stow the bat, you're on hoops." He called out, steeling himself against his frustration at Linden's tantrum. He was the captain, and he had to be the one to keep the team together. "Everyone else, back to it! We have a match to prepare for!"

René flinched when Connor called his name, nodding, relieved only for a moment when he was only being told to switched positions. "Uh, yep. Yessir," he said, moving to land, though the feeling of unease grew as René touched down briefly to set his bat down and grab some water, trying to reorient his brain into playing a different position before taking up his place by the hoops. Sure, he'd sort of played keeper while practicing with Sully before, but that was in their drive-way at home, not a proper game with a team and actual hoops.

Jordie was absolutely distracted as Linden left the field. What? He took a lap while the keepers changed, and came back around to see Rene as the new keeper. He threw the quaffle, surprised when the beater caught it.

René was already sweating as Jordie approached the hoops, grimacing and diving for the quaffle, relieved both when he managed to grab it and not fall off his broom at the same time. Practicing against Sully must have helped at least a little bit he mused, throwing the quaffle back out.

Felix froze awkwardly when Connor and the keeper started going at it. He looked around at the rest of the team for what to do until the keeper left the pitch completely. Tentatively he got back to his search for the snitch.

René still felt odd footed at the hoops, feeling like he should be moving as he watched the other players move about the pitch but too afraid to shift too much in case he wasn't ready when the chasers came back.

Leonardo was left awkwardly watching the captain and the keeper. He hadn't minded hearing tips, so far Leo had only just been playing as he always had, the tips were guidance that he felt he probably needed. Sure it had been a bit confusing in one area, but he was sure he could deal. He caught the ball when the beater threw it back out and a little nervous, a little worried that he might do something that would merit the captain shouting at him, he began circling back to the hoops.

René did his best to try and remember what he'd done when he'd played chaser for a bit as he watched Leonardo approach the hoops, wiping his sweaty palms on his robes to hopefully get ready for the next shot at the hoops.

Felix was starting to feel discouraged in his hunt for the snitch and he glanced up at the sky when out of the corner of his eye he spotted a flash of gold. Quickly he snapped out of his pity party and raced after it. A few moments later he grabbed the snitch and held it up victoriously.

René glanced over when he saw a flash of movement, suddenly worried he'd lost track of the quaffle or even a bludger. He was pleasantly surprised to see it was just Felix, and that he'd caught the snitch again, feeling his spirits raise a little at the sight after the unpleasantness between Connor and Linden.

As soon as Leo got close enough he threw the ball and felt disappointed when he missed.

Felix let go of the snitch and closed his eyes for a few moments to give it time to fly away and hide before he started his search again.
