Open Y43 Start of Year Feast

Besides the lingering awareness she’d be free to do whatever she wanted after school, Salem still hadn’t quite conceptualized that it was her last year at Hogwarts, taking in sorting and the feast with a relaxed fondness as it unfolded around her. She hadn’t loved being made to stop travelling and settle here, but she could see a few positives.

The feast started and Salem poked at a few plates, trying to decide what she wanted to eat. She could eat whatever she wanted when she graduated. “Hey Louis, what are you gonna do when you finish school?” She asked him, having gotten quite used to randomly asking the younger boy’s thoughts after spending their holiday shifts off and on together. "Something with Quidditch too? Go play for France?" @Louis Alcott

Emery didn't much care for celebrations at Hogwarts, though at least the feasts had decent food. He was bored out of his mind, trying to block out the annoying first years nearby chattering on about nothing. A girl close to him seemed to have the right idea, as she was just reading a book at the table. He wished he had thought of that. As the food arrived, Emery decided to try and read over her shoulder, it was more interesting than listening to his housemates talk to each other. He shifted in his seat so he had a clearer view of her book, attempting to read along quietly.

After the train ride, Rene was still in shock. Louis had claimed making out with Caleb was no big deal, but after Caleb had stormed out, Rene had his suspicions there was more there going on than he knew. Which was so typical of his friends, really. He always felt on the outside of those two, and now the feeling was stronger than ever. Not to mention they’d really stolen his thunder after he’d managed to get his captain’s badge.

Frowning, Rene tried to shake himself out of his funk, distantly hearing Nolan and Eugene catching up nearby. He didn’t really want to talk about his holidays thought, not after Jenna had dumped him right at the start of the break, so he turned to Leo instead. “Hey, Leo, ready for practice this year?” he said, adjusting himself so Leo would have an easier time spotting the new badge on his chest. Maybe he could still get a little acknowledgement before today was over. @Leonardo Orr

Leonardo was a little startled as someone spoke to him, but he glanced at the boy. Rene. Spotting the badge on his chest. "Congratulations," he said with a serious tone, before nodding. "I am ready, James let me practice over the break, so I'm in better shape for this quidditch season," the teen assured the captain with a very serious tone. "Did you practice over break?"
@Rene Tofilau

Valeria could feel someone reading over her shoulder, and she glanced up and saw the boy who was attempting to read the book at the same time as her. She readjusted her hold on the book, making it hopefully just a bit easier for the boy to read the book. She didn't particularly enjoy people reading over her shoulder most of the time, but given how terrible this feast was, she wasn't going to stop him. But she'd continue to read at her pace.
@Emery Mettlestone

Elara thought for a moment and knew Zay was right. While she had been quite upset being missed out on for prefect, not being prefect allowed a lot less pressure on her to be perfect or spend time doing things she may not necessarily want to do. Plus, with all her involvements, she likely would have gone mad. "We could steal their badges and say we hid them in the woods. Then they'd have to go get them. Although, they could try to summon them so that probably wouldn't work," she teased. At the same time, Jordie would be risking quite a bit if he managed to get in trouble. "We could just have our adventure," she said with a grin, grabbing some chicken for her plate. @Isaiah Thompson

Fine, thought Dahlia, aggressively pulling as much of what she wanted towards her before anyone else could. So she was still at Hogwarts, and still going to be the weird one out. Even though she should've been non magical and Zinnia could have all of this and fit in just perfectly. Apparently that wasn't the case - Zinnia was showing no signs of magic whatsoever. It's not like she wanted her sister around, just that Zinnia would've fared better here than she would. Only because she was a loser, and Dahlia very much wasn't, and she could've kept playing netball and gone on to NIDA or WAPA or something if she didn't go to the state netball teams while Zinnia did all the magic stuff. She was able to put on a smile to her roommates and to the boys, almost brought out of her foul mood watching Raafe comment on a first year boy's nose. But then she remembered she was supposed to be angry, and went back to slaughtering potatoes. If she was stuck here, so be it. She'd join the Quidditch team and impress them with her netball skills and everything would be how it was supposed to be.

Silas had taken a seat in the middle of the table, enjoying the energy of his fellow Hufflepuffs as new ones were added. He scanned the crowd seeing Blanche across the way and giving her a big wave while the Headmaster was still giving his speech. He just wanted her to know he was there. The speech was the same as usual, but it was still pretty important to remember. Eventually, the hustle and bustle started to pick up again as the man finished, and Silas loaded his plate with every vegetable within his reach before covering them all in gravy.

Mercury was trying to focus on what the headmaster was saying after the sorting, but her eyes were heavy. She had barely slept a wink in 3 days, and it was finally catching up to her. She leaned her elbow on the table, cradling the side of her chin in her left hand as she looked out over the crowd and towards the adults in the room. Rules were important to reinforce, especially for the new students, but Mercury's mind was drifting off towards the lit up sky of the Great Hall, zoning in, almost tunnel vision like, on one particular flame. It flickered as usual before sputtering quickly and then freezing. Mercury stared for a moment before shutting her eyes tightly for 10 seconds and then opening them. Everything around her was normal, and as she looked back at the candle, it was continuing to burn as normal. The speech had ended, and students were already filling their plates. Mercury quickly pulled her legs back under the table, staring at her empty plate. She wasn't even hungry but took a sip of the juice in front of her.

Natalia took a moment to notice Indi had been talking to her. She looked at the other girl and hesitated for a moment. As little as a year ago, she never would have volunteered any information to the other girl. She still didn’t really feel up to sharing the whole story but was at least partially truthful. “Family stuff.” She simply said. Then, her gaze snagged on the badge the girl was wearing and her eyes widened. “Oh.” She said, surprised. "Congratulations."

Louis had been enjoying the food but looked up when Salem spoke to him. He frowned a bit at her question, swallowing his bite. “I’d like to play for France, New Zealand… whatever team will take me.” He said with a shrug. “What about you?” He didn’t really like thinking about the future, as he knew that being able to play for a professional team wasn’t very likely.

@Salem Lee

At first, Emery thought the fact that he could see the page better was a coincidence. But as he kept on reading, he realized the girl was letting him on purpose. He wasn’t even entirely sure what he was reading, but it certainly beat sitting here and doing nothing. He glanced at the girl and gave her a quick smile before focusing on the book again. He had no idea what her name was, but she was alright.

@Savannah Walters

Raafe quirked a smile as the new first year laughed, nodding safely. "Ah, thought so, you have Hufflepuff eyebrows. But definitely a Gryffindor nose," he said firmly, tapping his own nose. "Raafe, hi. Welcome to Gryffindor. It's alright except it takes way too long to get down for breakfast," Raafe said, taking Fraser's hand and giving it a formal shake. @Fraser Fergusson

Crystal sat at the table of Ravenclaw. And she stared at the Gryffindor one. She still dreamed of being there. Ravenclaw was just not cool enough. But she had to be, she had to be cool this year. Being back here would give her chance. Though she didn't liked being surrounded by food and all, which reminded her of one of her worst memories at Hogwarts in Scotland. Which made her look like a fool and let her go crying up to her bed after cleaning herself up from the food she got on her. But here her white blonde hair would stay that way. She took some chicken and an pumpkin juice and took an sip of it. Watching the others smiling to some older and younger people.

Enzo had been thrilled to see his sister join Slytherin, even if he wouldn't mind a tad bit of personal space. She had a strong personality, something that exhausted Enzo at times, and while he hoped the Veros would become know as strong Slytherin members as his siblings followed him in the upcoming years, it had been nice to lay low for a bit. His sister found her way to some other first years, and Enzo was okay with that as the headmaster continued to speak. He tended not to get into too much trouble, but hearing of the mishaps of other classmates had him curious if he was being too cautious. Excitedly looking at the food once the man had finished, he politely waited until some of the older students had gathered their food before going after some rolls.

Veronique had barely noticed the ceremony, worried about about what she wanted to wear the first day of class and how she was going to reintroduce herself to people. She had already come up with a not quite true reasoning of why she had left that would lead to no questions, hopefully. As everyone started to eat around her, Veronique realized how much she had missed in a year and just wanted to find friends. She was likeable, and if people didn't like her, she could change things so they did. She noticed a group nearby laugh and tried to laugh a little with them, hoping they'd bring her into their conversation.

Rene couldn't help but preen when Leo offered his congratulations, even if it was a little lackluster coming from him. Then again, Leo didn't seem to get excited about all that much so maybe this was him being enthusiastic. Rene was happy to let himself think so. "Thanks! It's pretty cool, i just hope we have a good season," he admitted, mind eased somewhat to hear Leo had been putting in the work over the break. "Ah, not much, muggle family so I don't get a lot of time to practice unless I got to Brightstone or something," he said with a sigh. It wasn't terribly hard to go places with magic and all, especially since Sully had a place he could visit much closer to Obsidian Harbour, but Sully's place was gross and he always gave him too many tips on how to fly, despite him never being a Quidditch captain.

"Did you hear Jordie's head boy now? That's so crazy, aye. Hope he's still got time for the team," Rene said, eyes checking down the table to see if he could spot their other chaser, keen to get in a little team gossip with Leo now that he had him talking. @Leonardo Orr

Eliza smiled at the older girl, happy that the girl, whom she just found out her name is Aurora, is nice. She hoped that people in Hogwarts were just as nice as her. "Nice to meet ya Aurora! That's a pretty name! I'm really excited! It's really magical! What's your favourite thing about Hogwarts?" El said with a small smile. She wanted to learn about the school as much as possible, as well as the people that she was going to spend time with for the next several years. She of course was going to explore the school grounds too.

@Aurora Archer

Conan looked up when he heard his roommate, Dorian speaking to him. "It's my shell collection. Better looking at these than listening to what he has to say. It's nothing new" Conan says with a shrug, as he referred to the headmaster. He honestly didn't care if what he was doing wasn't a good thing. He found speeches in general boring and he much rather does something else.

@Dorian Fitzwilliam

Aurora smiled at the girl and gave a little blush at the compliment. "Thank you, Eliza is a really pretty name too," the gryffindor said honestly. At the question, she considered maybe saying the library or something like that, but really it wasn't her favourite place, it was just one place she went a lot. "I like quidditch and the quidditch pitch, I'm a beater for the Gryffindor team," she informed the girl with a smile. "What are you looking forward to?"
@Eliza Reynolds

Nolan smiled as Eugene started a conversation. "Hey, dude. My break was alright. A little better than the last. Spent time with a friend and all" Nolan says with a small smile. He didn't wanna get into too much detail right now, especially since they were around a lot of people and didn't really want other people to overhear their conversation. "How about yours? You do anything special during your break?"

@Eugene Nestor

Leonardo nodded in agreement. He did hope that they would have a good season, and he was determined to do his best with it. He had put in a lot of work and though his performance towards the end of the last semester had not been great he wouldn't let that hold him back, he'd do better now. Leonardo hadn't realized that Rene was from a muggle family, though admittedly, this was the first real conversation he'd had with him. ”Oh, okay. There's plenty time to practice now before the first game,” he said in an attempt to be sympathetic. Leonardo glanced towards Jordie and gave a little smile. ”Oh I knew, I was there when he opened the letter. I live with him and his uncle now,” he told him. ”Jordie will manage both,”
@Rene Tofilau

Fraser laughed lightly at him, saying that he had Hufflepuff eyebrows. He reached up and touched them lightly, but knew it was all in good fun. Nothing here was that serious. ”Good to meet you, Raafe,” he greeted the boy with a warm smile as he shook his hand. ”Are you a second year?” he asked, since the boy was clearly older than him, but maybe not by much. ”Are we allowed to fly down to the great hall or are brooms strictly outdoors?” he was sure he knew the answer already, but it didn't hurt to ask someone else.
@Raafe Khatri

Ralph knew Rion would handle meeting her best friend from other house. Just like he knew he could handle having his twin in the Slytherin. It will even be interesting. He'll have to fend for himself without Chris's generous advice and bravado. But writing lawyer would be saying too much and Ralph took Rion's joke literally. ”I don’t know. Lawyer will hardly answer my letter. That would be asking too much of me, and separating the twins might not be serious enough.” Really, where were the cheese plates?

He thanked Rion for the beans and gravy and piled a full plate for himself. ”Thank you.” He handed over a pitcher of pumpkin juice and placed it next to Rion's plate. So Rion's sister was a Hufflepuff and that made him remember Evianna. She too was sorted into Hufflepuff. ”Great! It would be cool to meet your sister.”

Then it was his turn to answer about the place of residence. ”I come from Hamilton. There's a cool attraction there like Hobbiton, where the muggle movies Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit were filmed.” Of course, England sounded like a more exotic place and he wanted to know exactly which English town Rion was from. "Which town in England do you come from?"

@Rion Pendleton

Max was happy to be back at the castle again, he didn't think he could hold out much longer in his dad's awful new place. With no backyard or playground nearby and his room being awfully small, it just wasn't a fun place to be at. Thankfully, Hogwarts was fun and soon he'd be able to roam its many halls and corridors again. Sitting comfortably amongst Raafe and the girls from his year, he watched quietly as the sorting ceremony began and the Hat began to sing a funky song. The ceremony itself wasn't that interesting to watch now that he wasn't taking part it in himself, but since everyone else was watching, he thought it rude to look away and mind his own business. He was starting to get a little impatience once his stomach started making grumbling noises, clearly skipping food on the train hadn't been the best of plans. It didn't take long before the Headmaster began talking again, which meant that food would almost be served. Which happened, moments later, thankfully. Max frowned at Raafe's comment about a boy's nose but was too busy stuffing his mouth with whatever he could get his hands on. He frowned again when he caught Dahlia slaughtering potatoes instead of eating them. ''I think you're supposed to eat those, not murder them,'' the boy said. @Dahlia Doherty
