Y30 Club Fair

James laughed at Matthew's comment and shrugged it off. "Lighten up man, I'm just making sure they hear me over everyone else," Before James had any time to doubt his recruitment tactic two boys had shown up at the stand to ask about the club. Matthew was dealing with one but the other had greeted James by name, which was weird. "Erm hi," James said wondering how the boy knew his name before remembering he was a first year (had to be by the size of him) and he was a prefect, he would have yelled his name to a group of them at the sorting feast. "Ok kid just sign your name on the sign up sheet and you'll be one of us simple as that, you'll get word about our first meeting as soon as we finalise the details," James nodded at the boy and quickly turned his attention to a girl who had positioned herself between the brotherhood and Heta Omega tables demanding to know why they were separated by gender. "Erm, look as bad as this might sound sometimes boys need to hang out with boys and girls with girls because frankly, we can get on each others nerves," James looked over the girls head at Maddie and flashed a smile. "Besides, myself, Matthew here and the Heta presidents are all friends so we arrange stuff for both clubs so it isn't like we keep separate all the time," James tried to explain without coming across as sexist and hoped the girl was satisfied with the answer. There always had to be one person who pushed.

Amber had only joined one club as a first year: Heta Omega, and she had never felt the urge to join any more. She smiled to herself as she made her way to the Heta Omaga table, though she winced slightly at the sound of James Cade shouting very loudly. Was that really necessary? She headed over and smiled at Isabelle. "Hi, do you need any help? " She asked the girl, eager to help out for the club she liked being a part of so much. She heard a young girl ask why the clubs had to be separate, and she looked in her direction. It seemed like James was speaking to her already, but Amber decided to add to it. "That's just the nature of these two clubs, a brotherhood or sisterhood. Any of the other clubs represented here are for everyone," She explained gently, gesturing at the other tables. "It's okay if it's not your thing, but a lot of us enjoy having a club where they can spend time and have activities with other girls."

The two stands were quick to reply but Gwen was not going to back down. It just didn't make any sense why they would separate the two genders and so she decided to explain her opinion further. "I get that, but what if I said I wanted to join the brotherhood? To not let me join wouldn't be nice." She paused, hoping they knew what she was talking about. Truthfully, the brotherhood did look so much better, even if there wasn't much of a difference. "Why have two clubs that are exactly the same though? It's just a waste of space for if someone else wanted to make a club. Having the two clubs joined together would help some people talk to others that are of the opposite gender, even if you do sometimes communicate to organise events. It'd also help other people expand their friend groups, but that's just my opinion." she added, smiling brightly at her idea. She thought it was reasonable enough and could work if they took it on board.

The Club Fair was slowly becoming Solomon's favourite part of the year, as someone who enjoyed to spectate rather than participate in any of them, and each year seemed to be something of a repeat of the last that somehow never grew too boring. As always, there was the too-loud and obnoxious Brotherhood, full of boys into their brooms and bad pranks and other generic male oriented poop Solomon didn't care to engage in. Then of course there was the Wild Patch which had somehow progressed from gardening to LGBT rights despite the name, odd considering how LGBT friendly the school and general society already was, and headed by their egotistical leader with her equally egotistical title of "queen of flowers". The Slytherin swiped one of the flower crowns from the Wild Patch table as he passed, immediately dropping it onto the floor to be trampled by passers by, and continued through the stalls. There was the SDA, but after the previous year he'd decided against dueling, opting for the more refined style of magic potions brought over hormonal teens throwing spells back and forth.

Solomon came to a stop by the Hogwarts Monthly stand, hoping to catch Merrill hanging around, though he quickly became more interested in some sort of tense exchange between Lennon and a boy from his house. History really did seem to repeat itself, considering previously a similar thing had happened with some Ravenclaw girl, and he hoped this would be just as awkward. A little disappointingly, the stand became a little too crowded, with the diva barbie-girl Merrill always complained about popping up, as well as the Village Fool of Flowers. "Someone's popular today." The metamorph commented to Lennon, amused by the little exchanges happening. He'd considered joining the Monthly out of all the clubs, ever since Merrill started being invested, and though he knew he'd probably offended Lennon last time they spoke, he didn't consider them to be completely unfriendly. Although, after the past two years, he couldn't help but wonder how many friends Lennon did have compared to the amount of people he seemed to not get along with.

Jordan quietly and patiently waited for the older kids to finish talking and was about to try to speak up when she was spoken to first. She smiled nervously and said, "I think so." Although Jordan had only a small window-sill garden at home she had always really loved the idea of gardening and now that she knew she was a witch instead of hoped she was eager to help in the growth of plants that would be useful as well as the prettier ones too. She opened her mouth to ask a question when someone else came and spoke above her and Jordan who always waited her turn bit her tongue about how rude she thought that was and instead decided that she should let them speak. Maybe she should leave and circle back later. Either way the first year politely moved out of the way for the bolder girl to speak to the flower crown wearing big kid.

Geo's eyes lit up at the mention of Bee showing her some tips that could be used in dueling. She nodded quickly, eager to finally be spending time with someone who had interests that ran against her own. "You would do that? I'd be so grateful" she replied honestly, noting she was a sixth year. "I'm only in year three so I still have a lot to learn" Geo explained, knowing that in the years to come she'd be much better prepared. She loved to know what was lying ahead of her, and even if she wasn't able to use everything she knew for a few more years, it still sparked her interests to how what she could one day be doing. She was surprised she hadn't come across Bee earlier, and hoped that she really would be able to practice with her.

In the distance she heard a voice near the Brotherhood table, and the nostalgia of her first year hit Geo as she recalled being in a similar position to the girl. She'd soon learn it was no use though. Geo had already tried her best to get into the Brotherhood herself, and quite frankly the whole splitting of the genders was just ridiculous. She would have had a better time focusing on something important instead.

Mazikeen was glad when the older girl told her where to sign up. She took the quill and neatly wrote her name down where she was supposed to. The girl was definitely happy she was going to be taking part in such a club, she took one of the flower crowns and thanked the older girl, "I'll see you at Wild Patch events then!". Her wandering around the hall wasn’t quite done, she had heard some yelling about a brotherhood and could only assume that such a thing existed for girls. She kept going round until she spotted the stand, Heta Omega, okay, an odd name but sure. She walked up to the table, ”This is the sisterhood club right? It’s called Heta Omega, but it’s essentially a sisterhood, right?” the girl pushed for clarification maybe this club wasn’t what mazikeen had been looking for and she’d have to find someone else to talk to about a sisterhood, but the gryffindor was relatively certain that she was correct. It was the club’s naming that was the fault.

Derek glanced at one of the older boys who greeted him, he picked up a quill and signed his name to join, ”I am enjoying it a lot!” the boy replied with a friendly tone, ”Are you enjoying it?” he returned the question, since perhaps this boy was also enjoying his schooling, no matter how long he’d been at the school and how the question had been geared more towards someone new to the school. Derek had been about to leave when another boy turned up to join up, asking another of the club leaders to join. ”Hey, maybe I’ll see you in the club room, or at the events,” Derek told the boy from his year and he then walked away from the stand. The Slytherin hadn’t decided if he wanted to join any more clubs, he was hopeful of a sports club but he couldn’t seem to spot any. Perhaps he could start one? Derek had played enough sports with other muggles that he knew quite a few rules. But perhaps it was more that other clubs hadn’t yet shown up.

"Ok" he nodded, waiting his turn to sign the sheet. There were a lot of people in her and not just first years. Jacob wondered why the older students wouldn't have decided right away to join a club and figured maybe some of them were new and hadn't existed in the years prior. When he finally got the sheet, he tried to make his writing as neat as possible, not wanting to miss the opportunity because someone couldn't read his writing. He paused when the boy next to him spoke, listened and then nodded and grinned. "Yea" he stated enthusiastically, passing the sign up sheet back to the older Brothers. "Ok, bye!" he waved as he headed to the next one. Wild Patch. "What do you do?" he asked when the leader was available. There were many items, pamphlets, the flags, flower crowns.

Zennon didn't really know much about clubs, but he figured now would be a good time to have a look at them since everyone else seemed so interested in them. He wasn't sure which would be the right club for him, maybe just somewhere he could have some fun and be around people, but not actually have to do things, like study or write. He looked around and noted that there was a brotherhood of some sort, maybe just the perfect place for him. Nodding to himself, Zennon headed over and looked at the sign up sheet. He looked at who he assumed was the leader... who was actually kind of cute, and a Gryffindor! Mentally smacking himself in the face, Zennon looked back at the sign up sheet. "What does a brotherhood do, exactly?"

Just as with most things at the school, the club fair intimidated Emilia quite a bit. There were so many people here, and Emilia didn't know any of them. She grew up very sheltered, and had never needed to stand on her own two feet as much as she did here at Hogwarts. But she wanted to join a club. It was the sort of thing Evelyn would do, the sort of thing Evelyn had done. She knew she wanted to join Heta Omega, the sisterhood. But first she would have to sign up. She headed over to the table with a lot of girls, figuring it was a safe bet. But instead of talking to anyone, she lingered near. Another girl was already talking to them, and Emilia didn't want to be rude and interrupt.

There seemed to be a lot of interest in the brotherhood which was only a good thing for everything James had planned for the year. Once he was finished with the boys already at the booth another one showed up with questions about what the Brotherhood did. James smiled, it was a question he actually liked answering. "Well first and foremost the Brotherhood is a place where its members can come and hang out, we're not separated by a house we're all just bros. We organise events, hang out together and we're there for each other, the Brotherhood is a second family. That sound like something you want to be a part of?"

Athena was on her way to this club fair where she had heard of. The blonde figured it was a good thing to join a club and see what the school had to offer. Evelyn had told her about some clubs and Athena would see for herself. When she walked further she saw Heta Omega where Evelyn had told her about. Not very far from there she noticed Emilia and walked over the the girl. '' Hi Emilia! Are you going to join a club too? We can do it together! If you already have made up your mind?'' the blonde said with a smile. She noticed her cousin at another stand with the school paper and waved at Evelyn. Athena didn't really think she would be a good writer. And she liked to be busy with music far more. Athena wanted to join Heta Omega and looked at the girl who was standing there. She noticed Mazikeen standing with the Heta Omega sisterhood and smiled. She really liked the girl and if they would join together that would be super fun. '' Hi Mazikeen!'' the blonde tapped the girl on her shoulders.

Lavinia had heard of the Club Fair going on, and she was curious to find out exactly what it was about and more importantly if there were any clubs she would be interested in. She arrived to the entrance hall and scanned the room, taking in her surroundings before she'd have to walk around to look at the clubs and things specifically. There were a few students already, some Lavinia recognised to be first years like her. When she passed a stall with the title 'Wild Patch Club' it intrigued her. Then when she checked if the girl responsible for the club was busy with someone, she was but with a familiar face. Athena. Lavinia grinned, going over to her extended cousin. "Hey cuz! Ooh are you going to join this club? Then count me in as well!" Lavinia glanced over to the older hufflepuff. She recognised her as one of her house Prefects. "Hi! I'd also like to join the Wild Patch Club. What exactly do you do?"

It seemed that the Wild Patch Club stand really stood out and Ellie was thankful that she didn't have to do any yelling like the brotherhood stand to attract a large group of people. She noticed a younger Slytherin walking towards the stand and beamed. "You sign up right here!" The Hufflepuff exclaimed, pointing to the sign up sheet the Gryffindor was using. She smiled as her Hufflepuff friend asked a question. "We work in the Hogwarts Gardens planting flowers and we also hold pride events for the school!" she told her, hoping that was something that interested her. As a familiar Slytherin face began to approach, Eleanor narrowed her eyes at him, watching as he knocked down one of the smaller flower crowns from the table and walked away. The prefect chose to ignore this however and returned her attention back to the small Hufflepuff student. "You can sign up too if you'd like." she told her with a friendly smile, gesturing over to the sign up sheet. She was glad that so many younger students were interested and trusted that the club would be in good hands for when she had to leave. As another younger Gryffindor spoke, she was happy to answer the question again for him. "We do all sorts of things! We grow plants, hold annual pride events and make flower crowns!" She picked up one of the flower crowns. "Would you like one?" she asked, holding it out to him.

The Ravenclaw Prefect beamed as Amber joined her. "Sure! You can help. It looks like we'll be a little occupied today," she smiled at her fellow club member and 'sister'. Just as she finished speaking to Amber, she turned her attention to a young Gryffindor girl who had walked up to both the brotherhood and sisterhood clubs, but James beat her to it and replied before she could. She smiled at his response, nodding her head. Hoping that Maddie would make an appearance soon because it appeared that they were going to be busy today, though if she couldn't that was okay too since Amber was here as well. Izzy didn't mind it, in fact, she loved when people asked about and wanted to join Heta Omega. She turned her attention instead to another student who had approached her. "Hi! Yes, it is, Heta Omega is a sisterhood where we treat each other like family, and hold events and do fun stuff together. Would you like to join?" she asked the girl, she too in Gryffindor.

Sam had been thinking it over and over, whether she should join a club and participate, becoming more involved at the school straight away. It was still her first semester at Hogwarts and yet she felt the need to be doing other things besides studying. She walked around, taking in as much as she could without getting confused and stopping every once in a while to check all the specifics of each club. Naturally, the brotherhood wouldn't do. There was one however that interested her. She smiled as she approached the station then realised the much older boy was busy with someone else. Still, by the expression on his face it didn't seem like he wanted the other boy there. Shrugging, Sam continued with what she came here to do. "Hello, sorry to interrupt. What exactly is the Hogwarts Monthly?" she asked, curious about it. Sam loved writing, journalism, anything of the sorts. She wondered what it was and if it interested her enough she could try to join, if she wasn't too young.

Sara had promised herself she would be more involved in the school. On top of doing well, of course, but she wanted to have a break from studying constantly. So as she looked at the different options none really inspired her yet. The sisterhood was of course an option, she wondered if that really was for her. The brotherhood was out of the question. Sara was a little disappointed but she tried not to let that get to her. Instead, she did one last look around and to her delight she spotted something interesting. The third year approached the station called the SDA and wondered what that was. She was about to ask about it to the older Gryffindor when she noticed the person the older girl had been talking to was Geo. "Hey Geo!" she grinned at her friend before turning to the Gryffindor Prefect. "Hey. What's this about?" she nodded towards the stall, if Geo joined maybe Sara could as well, though more out of interest than because her friend was there. It was just a bonus if she was.

Though Arvel had at first rejected Geo's suggestion of joining a club, he had taken an interest in writing for the Hogwarts Monthly. As a first year, he wasn't even sure it was something he could do, or if he'd enjoy it, but he supposed he had to do something in his free time besides sit around. What harm could come from checking it out, anyway? OK, he might be laughed away from the stand, but there already appeared to be a girl of his age standing over there, which was Arvel's permission to head over as well. He hung back a little behind the Slytherin, still within earshot of the people behind the table, but far enough away that he could inconspicuously walk off if the other girl got rejected.

Matthew laughed in surprise when the young boy turned the question around on him. He had to admire him for that, as he wasn't sure he would have asked a seventh year anything when he was that young. Also, it was just a funny question to get in his final year. He chuckled as he answered. "Glad to hear it, I'm enjoying it too. Thanks for asking." He said, waving at the boy as he went on his way. Some of these kids were hilarious. James answered the question of another boy, so he looked around to see if he could spot other interested boys.

Jordan arched an eyebrow when Pride was mentioned. She had seen it going on at home a few times but was confused as to what plants had to do with this. So she asked, "Is this a Gay-Straight Alliance?" Jordy had no problem if it was but she really wanted something that maybe had more of a focus because she wasn't the type to go out and yell about anything - whatever the cause. "Do you plant more than just flowers?" she added, hoping that maybe - just maybe they did because she really wanted to see where else she could take such a thing.

Rose entered the hall with a spring in her step, her hair bouncing across her shoulders as she took in the Club Fair. She hadn't always been much for clubs - she'd thought about joining the Wild Patch when she'd first been sorted, but as it turned out, despite her floral name, she was an awful gardener. The Ravenclaw had taken many attempts in first year Herbology just trying to magically grow her pumpkin, and even once she'd succeeded, it was far from the biggest one there. A green thumb she did not have. It was more peach in colour. So, she chose to ignore it, opting to check out the other stalls instead. Brotherhood was an easy pass, because a-duh, but Rose did briefly stop by the Heta Omega stall, interested in checking out some of their events and actually getting to know more girls. "Hi, Isabella! She greeted the familiar girl from her house and their prefect meeting, before scrawling down her name on the sign up sheet. "Just going to put my name down right here - okay bye!" There was too much to do to stand around all day, and she was happier to just see what happened in the sisterhood over time through participation rather than just being told about it all at some stall. She moved on quickly, ignoring a few other stalls, with the Monthly being particularly crowded. Who knew people loved writing so much? What a chore. Eventually, she stopped by the one stall she was most interested to check out, and greeted her patrol partner brightly. "Bee! I like your stall." She complimented, certainly preferring it over many of the others, as eye-catching as the rainbows and glitter of the Wild Patch was, the SDA just looked cooler. "Where do I sign up? Can't say I'm the best at dueling but I can use one heck of a shielding charm." In all fairness, she'd never needed to use a combat spell outside of a classroom, ever, but now that she was a prefect maybe it'd be necessary. There was no telling what would happen if she tried to confiscate someones fanged frisbee and they got a little more than irked by it.

Zennon listened to the cute guys explanation of what the brotherhood was and wondered for a moment if he might be tempting fate to join something like that. After all, he wasn't gay, so why put all that temptation in front of him. He looked back at the signup sheet. He wasn't really the kind of person who really talked about his personal life so he hoped that wasn't something that happened a lot in this group. "Okay, yeah, I guess. I mean if I don't like it, I can just leave right?" He asked as he signed his name beneath the others. He hoped that it wouldn't be as harrowing as he was thinking it might be.

Lennon figured a boy like Asaiah would prefer to be in a club like the Brotherhood that attracted the likes of him, so he didn't consider the boy was trying to join the staff. At that moment Evelyn came up and asked if he needed help and he was grateful for the distraction from the Slytherin who was wasting his time and smiled as he replied, "Sure, I could always use help, thanks!" Just then Lilyanna came to help out too and he couldn't help but chuckle when she yelled over the James at the table beside them. He put his finger up over his mouth to signal for her to be a little quieter but smiled as he replied, "It's going well, you here to help?" He had no doubt Evelyn would help recruit more people to their table and even Lilyanna could be helpful compared to Sophie Wilson last year who, while Lennon did like the younger Ravenclaw girl very much, was not very approachable. Finally turning to Asaiah, the Ravenclaw boy sighed and asked, "What about the newspaper?," still not catching on to the idea of the Slytherin wanting to join.

Speaking of last year, Lennon saw the same Slytherin who'd been with Merrill last year approach the table, and heard the comment the boy made. He wasn't entirely wrong; the Hogwarts Monthly table had become quite popular over the years and he saw a few other people approaching their table, so he hoped Evelyn or Lilyanna could help answer some of their questions while he was busy at the moment. He supposed popularity shouldn't be a bad thing for the sake of the paper, even if people like the two Slytherins in front of him only came to critique and not sign up. Lennon looked at the other boy and asked, "Thinking of joining this year?," if only to dismiss Asaiah's presence there further.

OOCOut of Character:
Not ignoring Sam & Arvel, just trying to spread the activity around! ^_^

Bee liked the way Geo's face lit up at the prospect of practicing together and felt a sense of accomplishment at having been a source of help for the girl's interest. "Of course!" she replied easily. "You wouldn't be able to use any spells I teach you during the tournament or you'd be disqualified," she said, "but I can still teach you some other tricks and tips to use," she added brightly. Just then Bee saw another girl approach the table, who ended up being Geo's friend and Bee smiled at the new arrival in greeting. "This is the Student Defense Association," she said proudly, gesturing to the display she had set up on the table. "This club is for students to practice their dueling skills in a safe, monitored environment and there's even a tournament each year with a winner from each grade level, except first years who are too young to duel," she explained excitedly.

She was about to ask the other girl if she would like to sign up when Rose stopped by and Bee waved happily at her. "Hey, thanks!" she said to her patrol partner, liking the girl even more now that she wanted to sign up. Bee chuckled at Rose's comment and shrugged her shoulders as she said, "You'd be surprised at how far a strong shield charm can get you in the tournament," encouraging everyone's strengths. She gestured to the sign up sheet at the table and said, "Sign right up here!" Just in case Geo's friend needed more convincing to join, Bee decided to try and talk her club up more, a little loudly too in case anyone else was interested in signing up. "The SDA is one of the only clubs where you do more than make friends, you actually get to improve your skills and it puts everyone on equal playing fields, regardless of gender." Truthfully Bee liked being part of Heta Omega and having that safe space as a woman in this castle, but since gender seemed to be a topic of discussion at the club fair today, she decided to use the heated argument in her favor.
