Nicole knew her mind should really be on her lessons, this semester being her last, but back school she was busy thinking about just about everything else. Valentine's day was only in a month or so and Nicole wanted to do something special, having already spoken to Estella an the Wild Patch about it and her notes were covered in roses even as Professor Haden greeted them for their first Charms lesson. Nicole had always enjoyed Charms and she tried to shift her focus to listening to him as he covered their NEWT level spells they'd be covering. The lesson was thankfully short however and Nicole packed up her things once she'd jotted down a quick note on what spells to look up, hurrying after Ajax so they could chat before her next class.
Connor couldn't quite believe he was entering his last semester of school. Ever. In just a few short months he would be finished at Hogwarts forever, out in the world to try and make his way as an adult. It felt absurd, far too close to really think about. Still, it was easier by far to think about his time at school ending than about what had happened over the holidays. The less time he spent thinking about his fistfight with Eric, the better. Though that also blocked off the other thought he desperately did want to think more about - meeting his father. Connor had never expected to meet his dad, and now that it had happened... He didn't know quite what to do with himself. Connor had always enjoyed Charms, even if it wasn't his best subject, and he was particularly sad to be leaving it behind after this year. He listened with interest as Professor Haden gave them the usual list of spells, pleased to see it was shorter than usual, even if it would also be more challenging. He jotted down all the spells along with a note to research them before the next class, adding it to his already heavy revision schedule.
Ivy headed to the Charms classroom for the first lesson of the semester. She had missed Charms quite a bit last semester, and even the daunting idea of the OWLs at the end of the year wasn't putting her off just yet. She took her seat in the classroom and listened as the professor introduced herself. Then he told them what they would be doing this semester, giving them a list of spells they would learn. He told them to create a study guide or something that would also cover the spells they had learned in the previous years. Thankfully, he made them a simple one. When the lesson was over, Ivy left the classroom.
The year was in full swing and Rose seemed to be behind things. It was a weird feeling that Rose couldn’t shake off. She had been fairly absent and thinking about other things than classes and grades. Her mind had been occupied with her plants, Oscar and various other things. The feeling of not being able to keep up anymore freaked her out. It was her OWL year for goodness sake and she felt like she was about four weeks behind with course work. Rose tried to shrug the feeling off and walked towards the first lessons of this period. Which was charms, a subject she still found pretty difficult. Rose clutched Edgar a little tighter and put on a smile.
Rose entered the classroom and placed her little plant friend down. The Professor had stayed the same since he did all the years of charms. She listened to him talking about what they were going to learn this year. Some sounded extremely difficult and Rose was hoping she was going to keep up. The little study sheet the Professor had made came at a very helpful moment and Rose started to read it over. The lesson was soon done and Rose left the classroom to go to the next one of the day.

The valentine cheer was in high energy everywhere in the castle. There were roses and other valentine related plants scattered throughout the castle. Not only that someone had decided that it was time for garlands with various coloured hearts and confetti that didn’t seem to pile on the floor. It was amazing what magic could do. The last couple of years Rose had adjusted her stance on magic. It wasn’t as useless as she had always thought. There had been no witch hunts so far either so that seemed pretty safe as well. Rose was packing her bag and left the dorm to go to the first class of the day, which was charms.
Rose entered the classroom and placed down her little plant friend. She then looked at the quiz that was placed on her table. The quizzes weren’t that hard and Rose started to work on it right away. The quiz didn’t took her overly long and this time she wasn’t even doubting one of her answers. Rose already knew about the new jinx they were going to learn. It was used to stop or slow something down. Rose walked outside with the rest and looked at the gnome. Rose wondered if the gnomes were feeling much of the jinx when they were slowed down. Rose had her hand full of the beans and a gnome was walking right towards her. "Impedimenta" she said while trying to slow the gnome down. Nothing happened and as a last resort she threw some beans to the right of her. She practiced the spell a couple of more times and each time the effect got better and more noticeable. When she got a successful attempt to her liking she left the outside and went back into the castle.

Lesson three was right around the corner and Valentine had been nice. She hated the commercial event with all of her might. It wasn’t like love needed an event, you should love everyone each day. A gift shouldn’t be given because it was valentine, a gift should be given out of love. Although it did really grind Rose her gears, she liked giving roses. Each year she had dried them and she was probably going to put them in a big frame. Rose gathered her stuff so she wasn’t going to be late and left to go to the Charms Classroom. Little Edgar sitting safely in her hands.
Rose arrived at the charms classroom and placed her little plant down on the table. She sat down on the chair and looked at the quiz that was in front of her. The quiz was harder than the one she had done last week, but it was still definitely doable. When she was done Rose waited for the others to be done with it. Then the Professor started his introduction into the new spell. It felt weird to hear that you could actually murder someone with the spell. A person couldn’t use finite when he was under the influence of duro so it meant someone else had to save him in time. That was just plain cruel. Rose looked at the cloth that she had received and Rose started to practice on the little cloth. She had to preform the spell multiple times to have the desired effect. A first the cloth was semi hard and the second time it had only worked on parts of it. When she had successfully turned it into stone she reversed it. Then the lesson was over and made notes on what she needed to read.
1. What is the charm you use to clean things?
It is Scourify.
2. Alohomora does what?

3. What charm do you use to repair things?

Delilah knew she should talk to Professor Haden about her concerns with her wand. Professor Corrins had been nice about it even if she felt like a failure. But she was determined to keep everything under control. She could do this, everything was fine. When she took her seat she was surprised to see a quiz waiting for them. She figured that this was as good a way as any to study for the OWLs that would be here in no time. She answered the questions quickly and was relieved to know she had remembered so much from previous years. Maybe studying wouldn’t be such a hassle for her after all. But of course the lesson didn’t end there and she listened to the lecture and dreaded what she knew was coming. To make things worse they had to travel outside but at least the weather was nice. She took a handful of beans and frowned. Delilah tried to go to a farther off corner of the gardens and threw out a few of the beans and gasped as the gnomes popped up almost immediately. She scrambled for her wand and tried to cast the spell once and twice before anything happened. But her wand barely seemed to be working as the charm wore off after a matter of seconds. She tried again and again until finally a solid charm finally made contact with the gnome, stopping it only moments before it reached her. With the spell successfully performed she had no desire to try again and she made her look busy until the lesson was finally over.
This year was going to be the year, the year that Fenton did well in his classes. He did not have a lot of classes so there was simply no excuse as to why he could not get all the Os that his mother expected of him. Well of course, there were lots of reasons why he may not be able to, but certainly not excuses that his mother would take. With this in mind, Fenton made it to class right on time. He entered the Charms classroom and took an empty seat.
Right away he noticed a quiz on the desk. Not a great start to the year. The Gryffindor boy took out his quill and ink. He waited for the lesson to start before he started the quiz. He felt like he kind of knew this information well enough, but certainly he would need more revision. It was only the second week though. He had plenty of time.
Fenton finished his quiz, waiting for everyone else to finish as well. When everyone was done, the professor began. They would be going outside today. Fenton smiled brightly. He loved a good excuse to get out of the classroom. He left everything in the room except for his wand as he followed his classmates outside of the castle.
The professor wasted no time explaining what they would be doing today. Fenton watched the demonstration, letting out a loud laugh at the gnome as it was put into slow motion, kind of like a superpower to be honest. Fenton accepted his beans and tried his own attempt. "Impedimenta" He said loudly pointing the wand at the gnome that was coming his way for the candy. The gnome did not stop entirely but it did slow down. He gave it a few more practices, each time improving.
He was quite enjoying himself. The lesson ended quicker than he imagined. Fenton pocketed the rest of the candy and headed back to the Charms classroom to grab his things.
Name: Fenton Fuller Year: Fifth Lesson: 3
Fenton entered the Charms classroom, once again finding a quiz on his desk. This was going to be a habit, wasn't it? The young Gryffindor boy sat down, taking out his writing tools. He completed the quiz rather quickly before the lesson was able to move on. Today they were learning a new spell. Fenton listened to the professor explain a bit more before doing an awesome introduction. The young boy gave a goofy grin as the professor changed the cloth into stone.
Fenton collected his own cloth, as he set it on his desk. He pointed his wand at the cloth. "Duro" he said. Nothing happened. Fenton attempted again, this time trying to sound more confident. "Duro" He said again. This time the cloth became rigid, changing in colour and texture. It was clearly stone. It took Fenton a minute to remember the counter charm. When he finally he, he cast it on the now stone cloth, "Finite." It was back to fabric in no time.
The Gryffindor boy attempted this spell a few more times, just to practice. It took the entire lesson, making the time fly by. Changing the cloth back to its normal state once more, Fenton turned it in to the professor. He grabbed his things and left the Charms classroom.
Name: Fenton Fuller Year: Fifth Lesson: 4
The year was going by so quickly and Fenton really had not started to study for OWLs. He had felt like had so much time at the start of the year. What had happened? He was determined to start studying after classes today. But first he had to attend the class of course. Fenton entered the Charms classroom, taking his normal seat. He took out his quill and ink, ready for yet another quiz. At least these quizzes were kind of like studying, in a way. Fenton completed the quiz without much thought, waiting for the other part of the lesson to begin. Some people were taking a long time, which made Fenton slightly worried he had not done as well on the quiz as he would have hoped.
His classmates all finished the quiz as the professor moved on. They were learning another new charm this time, the Reductor Curse. Fenton was a little more interested in this one. It certainly sounded like a lot of fun. The professor seemed to agree mimicking those words. Fenton followed everyone outside to an area with hedges that he had never noticed before. He was rather easily distracted, so it was possible that these hedges were always there.
Fenton watched the professor demonstrate, the smile on his face widening. This was a type of charm his mother would never let him use, which made it so much more enjoyable. Fenton took out his wand and pointed it at the hedge. "Reducto" He said. The hedge had some leaves fall off but that was about it. He tried again, the same effect. It did take a little time getting used to the charm, but once Fenton was able to manage it, he couldn't stop laughing. It was a lot of fun, kind of like those muggle destruction rooms. Fenton continued to practice, blowing holes in the hedge for the rest of the lesson.
When the time was up, Fenton put his wand away. He went back to the castle to grab his things. He was certainly going to write his brother about this class.
With the schoolyear being well on the way Chloë tried her best to make sure she was staying on top of her schoolwork, which meant a little more work than usual. After heading up to the charms classroom she dropped down into her regular seat and took out her notes, writing along when professor Haden told them about the spell they would be learning about today. A duplication spell didn't seem incredibly interesting but she was sure it could come in useful in a multitude of ways. Even if it were just for silly little tasks like duplicating an earring after losing one. She watched as one of the children toys the professor had send out landed on her desk, observing it for a second untill they were told to start practicing. Focussing on the toy she raised her wand, speaking the incantation as clearly as she could and watching as another toy appeared. It didn't look completely the same though and so she continued practicing untill she felt like the toy she had created with the charm was a detailed duplicate of the original one. Once satisfied that it was she headed to the front and handed the toys to the professor before heading out the room.
Lesson One
Estella was looking forward to going back to Hogwarts. She had been doing pretty well with her school work, and now she was able to see her boyfriend more on top of that in between classes, which admittedly made her very excited. Talking to Nikko had been the highlight of her break, but now that she could actually see him, it felt so much better. The Hufflepuff packed everything she needed into her backpack before heading out to her classes.
Estella entered the charms classroom, taking her usual seat as the professor began the lesson. It was a new professor for this year and the Hufflepuff had heard that he was good, which was very relieving. She listened as he wrote a list of the spells that they would be learning for that year. Some of them were interesting and Essie was happy for this. She looked forward to learning them. Soon enough, the lesson came to an end and the Hufflepuff thanked the professor before leaving.
Lesson Two
The first week of classes back at Hogwarts had gone so quickly for Estella. She still had prefect duties, as well as her responsibility in the Hogwarts Monthly, and with it also being her OWL year, the Hufflepuff was already beginning to feel a little overwhelmed. She hoped that her new responsibilities wouldn’t take away from her owl exams and just hoped everything would turn out perfectly during the year. The Hufflepuff packed everything she needed into her backpack for that day before exiting her dormitory and heading to her first class.
As Estella entered the charms classroom, she noticed a revision quiz on her desk. The first task was to fill it out, which Estella did so to the best of her ability. It was fairly easy, which was good, and she tried to reassure herself that this quiz would definitely help her and was beneficial.
What does Wingardium Leviosa do?
Levitates objects
What is the pronunciation for the summoning charm?
Akk-ee-oh
What is the pronunciation for the weaker form of the Banishing Charm?
Ruh-pell-oh
What does Lumos do?
It lights the tip of your wand
What is the incantation for the disarming spell?
Expelliarmus
Once everyone had completed the quiz, the professor instructed them to follow him outside to the gardens where he pointed out some gnomes walking about. They were to cast a spell on them to make them move in slow motion and Estella thought this was an easy enough task. She took out her wand when instructed, panicking a little when one of the gnomes began rushing towards her. She was quick to get it to slow down however, successfully casting the charm and smiling at her efforts. At the end of the lesson she thanked the professor before heading straight to her next class.
Lesson Three
Estella still couldn't help but feel a little buzzed from Valentine's Day as she headed into her third week of classes. It had been a very good but tiring day as she had delivered roses to not only some new faces, but her friends as well. She was even writing an article about it again for the Hogwarts Monthly and she couldn’t wait for it to be released. The Hogwarts Monthly was definitely her favourite activity within the school, and there was always something so special to the Hufflepuff about just writing to her heart’s content. The girl had classes to attend however and so she packed everything into her backpack before heading to them.
When Estella walked through the charms classroom door, she noticed another quiz on her desk. Just like last lesson, the professor instructed them to fill it out before they were to learn a new spell. The teen did so, hoping she managed to get it all correct.
1. What is the charm you use to clean things?
Scourgify.
2. Alohomora does what?
Unlocks locked doors.
3. What charm do you use to repair things?
Repairo.
4. What charm repels an object?
Repello.
5. Homenum revelio does what?
It reveals anyone who may be in the same room as you.
Estella was one of the first to finish. She listened as the professor told the class what else they would be doing during that lesson. They would be turning cloths into stone, which the girl thought was rather pointless, but she was happy to comply nonetheless. She picked up an orange cloth, placing it on her desk before pointing her wand at it. "Duro." she said, imagining it stiffening up in her mind. It did just that, turning into stone and making the cloth heavier. The teen smiled at her efforts, thanking the professor at the end of the lesson.
Lesson One
The previous semester at Hogwarts had gone so quickly for Ares. He was already halfway through his fifth year and he couldn’t believe it. It felt like yesterday that he first entered the castle and first met Jordie and Weston and everyone else from the Brotherhood. He was having a lot of fun at Hogwarts and definitely felt like his outlook on life had changed since attending it. The teen hadn’t made too many friends in his grade however, apart from Estella, so classes were a little boring, but at least that meant he had no distractions.
Ares entered the charms classroom, immediately realising how laid-back the professor was as opposed to some of his other professors. He hadn't really seen him around much last semester and hoped that he would be a good professor. Ares just listened as the professor pulled up a list of spells that the class were going to be learning that year. Some seemed a little complicated, whereas others seemed fairly easy, and Ares was keen to try them all. He was quick to leave the classroom once dismissed, heading straight to his next class.
Lesson Two
The first week of the semester had gone well and Ares could definitely tell that he was enjoying his time there a lot more. He had enjoyed the previous quidditch match, even though he wasn’t sure how good his beater skills actually were. Celia was much better than him and he found himself hiding behind her talent a lot of the time. Nonetheless, he was still enjoying himself on the pitch and he had a good feeling about the year ahead for them. He had to attend classes however and so quickly made his way to them.
Ares made his way to his charms class, taking a seat next to Estella this time. She was his only friend in his grade, and better yet, she was smart, which was something that could really help Ares. The teen listened as the professor told them to complete the revision quiz in front of them. It proved to be a little difficult for Ares, as the curriculum was a little different at Beauxbatons, but he just filled it out to the best of his ability, hoping it was good enough. The teen then listened as the professor spoke about the spell they would be learning. He followed the class out to the grounds where the professor pointed out some gnomes in the garden. They were to slow the gnomes down using this new spell. Ares wasn't really sure how much this would help the garden, but nonetheless he did as he was told until the end of the class.
Lesson Three
Valentine’s Day had really been an event for Ares and he was still struggling to get over it. Jordie liked his anonymous letter, however the slytherin was way too scared that he would find out who truly sent it. Ares just couldn’t admit that it was him. He was already too embarrassed to be having these feelings and he just wished he could turn back time and change them. Trying to shake the thought from his head, Ares just kept his head down as he headed to his classes for that week.
As Ares headed into his charms class for his third lesson, he noticed another revision quiz on the desk in front of him. He didn't really feel like doing another one of those quizzes, not with everything else on his mind, and so kept his answers pretty broad, unsure if a couple of them were even correct. He then tried his best to listen as the professor spoke about the next spell that they would be learning. They were to turn cloths into stone, and truthfully this didn't really interest Ares one bit. Nonetheless, he took a red cloth that the professor provided and attempted to cast the spell. It took a couple of attempts with his distracted mind, but eventually he had done it. He was quick to leave at the end of the lesson.
Lesson 1
Nik knew he wasn't exactly looking forward to the charms lessons tho he just needed them for the future. So when the lesson started, he was in a seat somemwhere in the back of the classroom, trying not to fall asleep. Tho, professor seemed to be planning just go over the syllabus for the semester and Nik was fine with that. He didn't need a serious lesson in the first one. He just scribbled some of the charms on his hand not wanting take out his notes and when the lesson was dismissed, he left the class and straightly went to wash off the writings on his hand and forget about the lesson.
Lesson 2
Nik knew that the Valentine's day was just around the corner and he was still debating if he should send a rose to Cassiah even tho they didn't exactly talk a lot since he told her about try-outs. It made him a bit concerned and he honestly just had to hope that they were all fine. She was kinda the only person that he really cared about. So the week was spent just debating with himself and so far it seemed like he was leaning about sending him a rose and trying to decide if they had something to talk out since they weren't talking anymore.
The lesson started and Easterling simply took the quiz, he found it overly easy and felt like professor was just laughing about them with giving them such an easy quiz. Tho, he finished the quiz and followed everyone out in the garden, even if he didn't wanna go out. He listened to the professor Misha and then waited to practice the spell. Once a gnome started running towards him, he just casted a spell, not being able to hide a little smile that he managed to get it successful on the first try.
Lesson 3
The Valentine's day was already over and Nik was still a bit curious if everything was fine between him and Cassiah, tho, it seemed like it really wasn't. He had no idea how to solve it, he had never had a real friend before and now he had no experience on how to handle the fact that they weren't talking anymore.
Nik still wasn't looking forward to charms, he didn't like them or the professor at all. However, he still listened to the professor and then did the quiz fastly, still feeling like the professor was just bored and decided to annoy them. tho, when they finished the quiz, Misha told them about the new spell. They had to turn cloth into a stone, Nik just simply went on to do the spell without thinking whether he liked it or not. It took him a several tries but he managed to do it.
Tilly was more than happy to go outside for her Charms lesson. She wasn’t grumpy about the quiz at all, unlike some of her classmates. The Hufflepuff wasn’t going to complain about earning a few easy points and reminding herself about lower-level spells for the exam. Packing up her quill and ink bottle, she followed the professor down to the grounds. She wondered what exactly they were going to be casting the Impediment spell on. Tilly had dropped Care of Magical Creatures after the third year, so this was new learning material for her.
What does Wingardium Leviosa do? Levitates the target object
What is the pronunciation for the Summoning Charm? Accio
What is the pronunciation for the weaker form of the Banishing Charm? Depulso
What does Lumos do? Creates a light at the end of the caster’s wand.
What is the incantation for the Disarming Spell?Expelliarmus
Wrinkling her nose when she saw the gnomes, Tilly accepted a handful of Bertie Bott’s and waited for her chance to cast the spell. She’d been bitten by a gnome when she was four and had carried a grudge against the ugly potato-looking creatures ever since. Her first round with Impedimentia didn’t go well, and she had to scatter beans as she backed quickly out of the way of the bitey gnome. “Sorry!” she shouted to one classmate she’d nearly knocked over.
Grounding herself for the second attempt, she cast a ball of red light that crashed straight into her target gnome. She smirked as it moved slowly towards her. At least now she had the tools to protect herself from these little hellions. Dropping the rest of the flavored beans on the ground as a peace offering, Tilly walked back to the castle.
Lesson Missed: Three
In past years, Tilly would have openly groaned at the idea of a pop quiz. Now, she decided that this was going to be quite helpful in studying for her OWL exams. She sat down near Harper and pulled her ink and quill out of her bag. Snatching the parchment out of the air, TIlly mulled over each question before writing down her answers. For some reason, she had the most difficulty with the fourth question. After a minute, the incantation was painfully obvious. The Hufflepuff shook her head and set her quill to the side. Reviewing four years worth of material was going to be tough. Not for the first time, she wished she had been more studious as a younger student, like Ivy, Rosemarie, or Estella. Tilly had a lot of catching up (and frankly, growing up) to do.
1. What is the charm you use to clean things?Scourgify 2. Alohomora does what? Opens locks, such as on a door. 3. What charm do you use to repair things?Reparo 4. What charm repels an object?Repello 5. Homenum revelio does what? Reveals the presence of human beings in the area.
Her quiz flew away from her as quickly as she arrived. Pulling her wand from her pocket, Tilly was eager to learn today’s newest charm. She listened as Professor Haden described both the benefits and dangers of the Duro charm. Solidifying things sounded like a useful skill to have. However, she shuddered when he said that the charm could be used to kill someone. To her, that sounded like a far worse way to die than the Killing Curse. She gripped her wand and focused on the bright green cloth as it dropped down in front of her.
“Duro,” Tilly said with a swish and flick. Nothing happened. Frustrated, she tried again. Except this time, her entire desk turned to stone- exactly what she wasn’t supposed to do. Her cheeks flushing with embarrassment, she reversed the spell with Finite. Thankfully, the desk softened into its original material. Tilly tapped the surface to ensure it was still wood. She resumed her efforts after taking a deep breath and banishing her irritation.
After a solid twenty minutes of practice, Tilly managed to harden the soft cloth. She prodded it with her finger. Pleased that there was no give in the stone, she reversed it back to her satisfaction. She left the classroom with a sense of accomplishment.
Name: Brooke Townsend Year: Fifth Lesson Missed: Two
The school was already all a flutter with Valentine's. Brooke had gotten her roses sorted and honestly, she was quietly looking forward to spending an evening at the dance. It wasn't often she actually crave a break but the grueling schedule she'd set for herself to stay on top of her school work this semester made it hard not to want to just spend one evening not working on something.
It seemed Professor Haden was also intent on keeping them all on top of their revision, as he greeted the class with a quick quiz before they could get into the lesson proper. In the past, Brooke would have been insulted at being handed a quiz with first year level spells on it, but these days she knew any level of revision was going to be in her favour to pass her OWLs. With the quiz done, they moved onto covering the Impediment jinx. Brooke wondered if it could be useful in a tight spot for duelling, though ideally a shield would always be better.
After a brief lecture on the spell, they were lead outside and Brooke groaned as Professor Haden explained they'd be practicing on gnomes. Brooke hated gnomes. But still rolled up her sleeves none the less, leveling her wand at the first gnome she saw. Her spell missed at first as the gnome ducked away, but thankfully Brooke managed to hit it much easily the second time as it made a run for her, gritting her teeth at the sight of its nasty, little teeth. Technically, Brooke was free to leave now, but she decided to stay a bit longer to get in the extra practice before moving onto her next class.

For once in his life, Weston was feeling good about this term. He had passed his OWLs, and he would only have one class to keep track of this semester — Charms. It was also his best subject, which would make things even easier. He only hoped Professor Haden wouldn't give them quizzes every class as he had last year. Even though they hadn't been difficult, they had still been stressful.
Thankfully there were no slips of parchment waiting for him at his desk. Weston slid into his usual seat near the front and took out his wand. That turned out to be unnecessary, and he had to dig through his bag to find a bent quill to take notes with. He copied down the list on the board, a little disappointed that there weren't more spells. Weston was surprised to hear that they would be covering the Patronus Charm next year. Wasn't that spell super hard? Hopefully he would be able to manage it. Although he didn't think he needed NEWTs for the career he wanted after school, he still wanted one in Charms.
Two
Weston was absolutely delighted to see that the desks in the Charms classroom were empty. That had to mean that the weekly quizzes wouldn't be a thing this year, right? He took a seat, already feeling a little lighter. That feeling disappeared when Professor Haden brought up that week's reading. Technically, Weston had done it. But he couldn't remember a thing, which probably wasn't a surprise since his definition of doing the reading was half-heartedly skimming the chapter while chatting with his friends.
He wasn't surprised when River answered the question. She was so smart. Weston jotted down some notes as Professor Haden demonstrated the spell. He wasn't sure if he'd ever find a use for it in real life since he didn't participate in duels, but he was still eager to master it. Weston's eyes widened slightly when Professor Haden mentioned that prefects could use it on first years. Were they really allowed to do that?
A bunch of dummies suddenly materialized, causing Weston to jump slightly. He pushed his desk to the side and pointed his wand at the nearest dummy. "Incarcerous." A rope shot from his wand but then immediately disintegrated when it hit the dummy. Weston gave his wand a puzzled look before trying again. It took a few more tries, but he was finally able to tightly swaddle his dummy in rope. Happy with his work, he pocketed his wand and headed out, making a mental note to actually do the reading this time.
Three
Weston had not done the reading. He had meant to, but then he'd gotten distracted learning a new guitar riff and then he'd had an eel-watching shift at the lake and then after that he'd had to mediate a fight between some of his chess pieces and — long story short, the homework had totally slipped his mind. So when Professor Haden mentioned the assignment, Weston avoided eye contact, pretending to be intensely absorbed in his note-taking (even though there was nothing to take notes on yet).
River's description of the charm didn't help. What did it mean to hide something's "magical nature"? Things only got more confusing when Professor Haden demonstrated the spell, which seemed to be a sort of invisibility charm except not really since Weston could still see the outline of the table. Professor Haden was acting like the spell had worked, so did that mean the table was magical? Weston's head swam as he tried to understand what was going on.
Then Professor Haden himself disappeared. Weston gaped at the space where the professor had been. Okay, that was really cool. Weston had always wanted an invisibility cloak, but his mum had refused to get him one. If he learned how to do the Disillusionment Charm, then he wouldn't need one. Professor Haden gave them the option of leaving class early, and while Weston would have normally taken it, he was determined to learn this spell. So he remained at his desk and waved his wand around himself. Nothing happened. He tried several more times, managing to eventually make himself fade a little. It wasn't until the hour was almost up that he felt something slimy trickle down his head. Weston glanced down and dropped his wand in surprise when he realized he was practically invisible. He spent the remaining time waving his hands in front of his face, testing his invisibility. It was with extreme reluctance that he finally undid the charm at the end of class.
Four
Weston had spent half the week disappearing things around his dorm with the Disillusionment Charm. It had been a lot of fun up until he had tripped over an invisible textbook that had fallen to the ground. So Weston had spent the second half of the week accio-ing and finite-ing all the objects he'd rendered invisible. All that practical work meant that he had once again forgotten to the homework. Thankfully, Professor Haden took the time to explain what the charm did. Weston took notes as the professor spoke though he was a little confused by the man's comment about the prefects. Why would they need to levitate things?
It was soon time to practice. The cakes looked pretty good, and Weston was eager to cut himself a slice. He started by trying to levitate one of the cakes. To his surprise, the spell worked immediately, and he started to guide it over to his desk. Halfway through, however, the cake started to dip towards the ground, and Weston only barely managed to make it land on his desk. Not wanting the same thing to happen with the knife, he decided to summon it over. That turned out to be a mistake, and Weston ducked with a yelp as a knife whizzed towards him before clattering to the floor. It took a solid five minutes for his heart to stop racing, and Weston reluctantly picked up the knife. The near-death experience had ruined his appetite, so he pushed the cake and knife aside. He decided to spend the rest of the class just practicing the Hover Charm on random objects from his bag.
Five
Weston had to suppress a groan when Professor Haden started off the class by mentioning the reading. How had he forgotten again? He dug out his quill and got ready to take notes. The mention of a history lesson made him a little wary since he was terrible at memorizing dates and historical information that he deemed boring. But the information Professor Haden gave them was anything but boring. In fact, it was deliciously ghoulish, and Weston listened in rapt attention.
The demonstration was equally dramatic. Weston watched in awe as Professor Haden stuck his hand in the middle of the flames. He wondered if the fire still had the power to eat through the desk. When it was his turn to practice, Weston approached the fire and cast the spell. He could still feel the heat, which he assumed meant that the charm hadn't worked. He had to cast the spell a few more times before the heat finally died. Once Professor Haden gave him the signal, he tentatively stuck his fingers into the fire. The sight of the flames flickering harmlessly around his hand was bizarrely entrancing. Weston wiggled his fingers around in the fire a bit before stepping back to let the next person try out the spell.
Lesson 1. It was a new year and new knowledge that needed to be learned. Alice no longer knew if she would be able to follow through on future plans. Everything did not go according to plan. However, he decided to go to the charms lesson. She sat on the last bench of the class and listened to what the professor said and wrote down in her notes what they would learn this year and what they would have to prepare for.
It seemed that it would be more difficult than in previous years, but it would have to be done. As soon as the lesson ended, Alice put her things in her bag and then left the classroom.
Lesson 2. Alice went to the second charms lesson, because she knew that today she would have to learn a new spell. Having already settled in the classroom on the previous bench, she took out her notes and put her wand on the table, because she knew she would need it today. After hearing about the spell Incarcerous, Alice knew it would be difficult, but she would have to try to learn how to perform it, no matter what it required.
Carefully and carefully watched the professor, then when they were given the green light to try it themselves. At first, he only tried the wand movements a couple of times, but then he also tried to use the spell in the words Incarcerous. Of course, nothing happened the first time. With the third time it was better, but until the lesson it was not very good and Alice's practice will be needed. However, before the end of the lesson, she managed to make a stationary object moving and she felt proud of herself, and then left the classroom.
Lesson 3. Alice knew that the charms lesson would be a more difficult spell, but she couldn't give up because of that and she was no longer enthusiastic about doing anything. Entering the classroom and once again sitting on the last bench, and waiting for the lesson to begin, she prepared everything she needed.
It didn't take long for the lesson to start. At first, the professor told what he would learn today and how it should be done correctly, and Alice tried to memorize everything. It will definitely be harder than the first time. Concentrated, the girl tried the spell again without unnecessary words, but so the movement of the wand and as far as she understood, she did everything correctly with the words, which were pronounced loudly and clearly Disillusionment Charm at first nothing happened that Alice was already ready to give up, however before the end of the lesson came and she did not see the object that they had to spell. Pride in herself came again, then she left the classroom.
Lesson 4. Everything is coming to an end when Alice is worried about the upcoming exams and what is to come. With great fear, she went to the charms class again. As soon as the lesson started, she listened to the professor's introductory story about the spell and then carefully observed how it should be performed.
Until they had to do it themselves and panic started. The first three times nothing happened, but it was necessary to calm down. Alice took a few deep breaths to calm herself and then tried again. Hover and miraculously everything worked out. Better than the first three attempts. By the end of the lesson things were getting better, but this time you couldn't say that Alice was proud of herself, rather she was disappointed.
Lesson 5. I was also there before the last charms lesson, when I had to start worrying about the exams. Alice didn't know if she would do everything right and that made her doubt herself more and more. After entering the class, sitting down and preparing for the beginning of the lesson, she tried to calm herself down, but this time it was difficult.
Then the Flame Freezing charm had to be tried and it must have been difficult that at first Alice didn't even want to try because she knew nothing would happen. Was today with that concentration. However, the trolls didn't want to get either, so they took a couple of deep breaths and tried. Flame Freezing of course at first nothing came, she tried about five times and nothing. There were a few minutes left until the end of the lesson and it was necessary to try again. Alice didn't know if she would succeed, but she said the words again loud and clear. Miraculously, it worked and the flames stopped. However, as she walked out of the classroom, the girl was not thrilled with today's achievement. One time out of six tried. Such a shame.
Ivelisse took her seat in the Charms classroom once the doors had opened, ready for another one of professor Haden's quizzes. The last one was fairly easy and the fact that she had retained all of that information seemed promising for her exams. She finished the quiz when they were allowed to get to it and made sure to hand it in before heading back to her seat and waiting for the professor to start today's lesson.
She took some notes as he discussed the charm they would be learning today, quite impressed by the idea of turning things into stone. Maybe she could use it on Celia's pillow. Although she was fairly certain that would put an even bigger target on her back right away. She made sure to write down what would happen to a person if they were under Duro for too long, although it seemed to make sense that being turned into actual stone could end up being lethal. She glanced at the cloth in front of her when they were allowed to get to practicing and pointed her wand at it, firmly stating the incantation. "Duro." It took her a couple of tries but eventually the cloth turned into a nice slab of stone on top her desk. Once class was dismissed Ive packed away her notes and left the classroom.

Lesson 4
After the previous weeks Ivelisse was ready to find another quiz on her desk when she entered the charms classroom. She had one her reading, knew the stuff they had learned in the previous years. This one should be doable just like the others. When they were allowed to get started she made quick work of filling in the answers and handing in her quiz before heading back to her desk. She took out her notes when the real lesson started and wrote some things down when professor Haden explained the Reductor Curse to them. She watched as he demonstrated the spell by obliterating a desk, quite keen to get to practicing the spell herself. Who wouldn't like blowing things up? She followed the professor out to the lawn and was a little disappointed to see they would have to practice the spell on a hedge. Where was the fun in obliterating a simple hedge? Once they were told to get started she got praticing, making sure to aim at her piece of hedge and clearly stating the incantation. She grinned when she managed to blow a large hole into the hedge and kept practicing untill class was over.

Name: Eston Spencer Year: Gryffindor Sixth Year Lesson(s) Missed: Lessons 3 and 4
Lesson 3
Eston was surprised with the 'line up' of Charms this year, but he certainly wasn't complaining. The Disillusionment Charm was on the game plan today and that certainly could be used for some fun. Although, he didn't read the whole chapter, more skimmed it. He didn't know all the details but he knew it would be a good time nonetheless. Eston entered the Charms classroom and took his seat in the back of the room. He set his bag under his desk, only keeping his wand out.
The professor began the lesson. He asked a question, but Eston didn't want to answer. He let another student, who was rather quick, get the points. A little disappointing because Gryffindor did need the points. But Eston was never one to answer questions in class. He listened to the rest of the short lecture and watched the demonstration.
Eston squinted at the desk. He could barely see the outline if he looked close enough. That was pretty cool. Eston decided to stay in the room and give it a shot. He stood up, to get the full effect. He did the motion around him as the professor showed. He felt like an egg cracked on his head. He wasn't sure if it worked until he looked at his hand. It wasn't there, but it was. There was a vague outline, in a way. This could definitely be useful. Oh the people he could surprise with this. "Finite" Eston said, removing the charm. He was definitely going to use this. With a sly grin on his face, Eston grabbed his things and left the classroom, ideas fluttering in his mind already.
Lesson 4
Eston had used the Disillusionment Charm from the other class a little too often. His dormmates were certainly annoyed with him as was his sisters. But that was what the fun was all about. He hoped the charm today would be just as exciting, but he hadn't done the reading. He wasn't sure what it would be. The Gryffindor girl entered into the Charms classroom. He took his seat lazily in the back of the classroom. The lesson soon began.
They were learning the Hover Charm today. That definitely wasn't as exciting. Eston zoned out a little bit during the lecture, until cake was mentioned. Now that caught his attention. The boy loved to eat. He listened to the task now, excited to have a slice of cake if he got the charm right. Maybe he should have done the reading.
Eston watched a few students attempt it first, taking mental notes as they succeeded. Eston wanted to give it a try. He felt like his was ready. It took his two attempts,, but he did manage to hover the cake to his desk. He now got to use the knife. This was a little more tricky, but Eston was less worried about dropping the knife than the cake, of course. But he didn't drop the knife. He was able to hover both the cake and knife to his desk. Eston cut himself a big slice and began to eat. He continued to enjoy way too much cake until the lesson was over.
Full and a little sick feeling now, Eston packed up his things. He threw away the rest of the cake and left the Charms classroom. Maybe he should roll out of there at this point. He definitely did not need to eat lunch now. But he probably still would.
Lesson 1
Felix was not ready for lessons to begin. With his animagus training on top of lessons, he was already behind. It was going to be a long semester and he wasn’t sure if he was going to make it. But he did what he needed to do and took his seat as Professor Haden greeted them. He wasn’t sure why he said the lesson would unfortunately be brief, Felix always viewed that as a good thing. Still he made sure to write down all the charms they would be covering before they were dismissed and he could get back to the books Mr. Summers had sent with him.
Lesson 2
Felix was running late like usual and kept running into people as he rushed up the stairs and yelled an apology over his shoulder as he went. But he made it to class on time and had thankfully remembered to do the reading before class. He was too slow to answer when Professor Haden asked a question but he was at least pleased when he knew the right answer. Still he followed along as they went over the spell and then it was time to practice. The professor made the spell seem serious even if he joked about using it on hyper first years. Hopefully he’d never have to use it if he could help it. Felix pulled out his wand and got ready and imagined what he wanted to happen just like Professor Haden had mentioned. His first try produced only a thin rope that only made it a few feet before falling uselessly on the ground. His next attempt was better but it wasn’t until the third when he actually had a full success. He tried a few more times for good measure before he called it a day and took note of the homework as he headed out the door.
Lesson One
Genevieve had spent all of her break working on her Animagus training. And while she wanted nothing more than to put her head down and get through it, she was a little disappointed that the break didn’t really seem like a break at all. It had gone by very quickly and now she was already back at Hogwarts. At least it was no longer her OWL year and there was a little less pressure off herself. The Gryffindor packed everything she needed into her backpack before heading to her classes for the week.
Genevieve entered the charm's classroom, and took her usual seat within the room. The team reverted her attention to the front as the professor began going over the spells they would be learning that year. He wrote them on the board, and Evie made sure she wrote them in her notes as well. They seemed like quite interesting spells and she couldn't wait to learn them all. Soon enough, the lesson came to an end and the Gryffindor headed out of the classroom and straight to her next class.
Lesson Three
The third week at Hogwarts meant that the Halloween ceremony was coming up soon, and Evie had already planned her costume in advance. She thought about going as something scary to fit in with the tradition, but she was a little over the theme and wanted to do something different. She just hoped that it would be a likeable costume. The sixth year made her way to her classes, just thinking about Halloween and how good it was going to be.
As Evie entered the charms classroom, she took her usual seat. The professor began going over the spell that they will be learning. The fact that the disillusionment charm felt like an egg was being cracked on top of her head, was a little funny and entertaining to her. She couldn't wait to practice the spell. When instructed, she took out her wand and began practising the wand movement and incantation before she started with the actual spell. It took a couple of tries, but eventually Evie had done it, or so she thought, as she felt the exact feeling of an egg being cracked on her head. She giggled at this, and left the classroom at the end of the lesson with a smile on her face.
Lesson Four
The last couple of weeks had gone a little fast for Evie. Gryffindor had already played their first game, and whilst it didn’t go too well, Evie was proud of her efforts and knew that she would just get even better with time. There was a lot of pressure being the keeper, but she was confident that she could do it. The girl still had classes to do however, and so she made her way to them, hoping they would get a little more interesting for her.
Evie was looking forward to the next charms lesson. She was wanted to learn as many spells as she could and charms class was really helpful for that. She listened as the professor went over what they would be doing, and Evie thought the task was quite fun. She took out her wand when instructed and tried to imagine the knife hovering and cutting a slice of cake before she went ahead and practiced the spell. It took a couple of tries, as the knife kept falling back onto the table, but eventually she had done it successfully without cutting herself or injuring anyone else with the knife. Pleased with this, Evie left the classroom at the end of the lesson when dismissed.
Lesson Five
The semester was already more than halfway completed and Evie couldn’t help but be a little relieved. Some of the material she was learning in her classes was a little boring, and the Gryffidnor often contemplated ditching them for something a lot more fun. There was barely any time to go exploring and this really annoyed the girl. She hoped that perhaps, with some miracle, the professor would allow them a class off as she made her way to her Charms class.
Evie entered the Chan's classroom and took her usual seat. The professor was going to teach them yet another spell, and Evie was excited for this. She watched as the professor demonstrated it, her eyes widening as the professor's hand went straight through the fire. It was a dangerous task, but Evie was sure she could do it. With some guidance from the professor, she managed to get the spell done successfully and she was quite happy with her efforts. She happily left the classroom at the end of the lesson.
With the end of the semester quickly closing in Eloise knew she needed to make sure she kept on top of classes. Get her notes in order, prepare her revision sheets. Everything she needed to be able to study without having to go through too much trouble. She listened to professor Corrins tell them they could use the lesson time to review, quickly taking out her notes so she could start tidying them up for revision.
Kiara took her seat in the charms classroom and listened when professor Haden happily greeted them, not too keen on him joking about the end of term. OWLs were stressful and she was sure the man knew so it almost felt like he was making fun of them even though his tone was light. She quickly filled out the quiz and handed it in before focussing on what the professor had to say. She followed him to a different classroom and listened to what he had to tell them about the severing charm. Kiara paid attention to the professor's demonstration and started practicing when they were allowed to. It took her a lot of effort before she managed with the vines, but once she did she grew more confident to move on with the rope and the chain. It took her the entire lesson to get it done but eventually she managed to cut through the chain right before class was dismissed.
1. It confuses the victim.
2. Dries up small areas of water.
3. Makes something move downward
4. Puts a bubble of air around the caster's head.
Anisha headed to the Charms classroom, eager to learn new spells. She really wanted to do well in the duelling tournament and figured Charms would be the subject that was most likely to help her. The professor said they would learn two spells, which was fun. But then she added they weren't the most exciting spells, which deflated Anisha's enthusiasm a bit. She took notes on the first spell, which was Flagrate. A spell that was used for wand writing, which did sound interesting. The other spell was a revealing charm, which also sounded interesting. But neither spell sounded like it was very useful for the tournament. They practiced both spells by writing a message with their wands in invisible ink, then revealing it with the other spell. It was a fun exercise, and Anisha wrote a funny joke for Raafe. When the lesson was over, she left the classroom after thanking the professor.
Name: Dorian Fitzwilliam
Year: Third
Lesson: 1, 2, 4, 6 Lesson One
While there was no doubt Dorian enjoyed the peace and quiet of being at home over the holidays, he did have to admit it could get tedious quickly. He wasn’t always thrilled about being around his peers 24/7 at Hogwarts but there was no getting away the enjoyment of other aspects, namely most of his lessons and access to the school’s library. Doubly so this year with them being able to pick new electives as well. Charms may not have been one of those new electives, but Dorian was still looking forward to what new spells they'd be covering this year. Even if it meant he had to share his classes with Anisha most days.
Dorian's enthusiasm immediately dropped however when Professor Corrins suggested they'd spend today working in pairs. They were just reading, surely Dorian could do that alone he thought miserably, sinking into his seat. At least the other benefit of third year also meant he had most of his classes with Ezra too, and Dorian immediately shifted his chair closer to his friend before anyone else could any ideas about pairing up with him, content to work over the new reading in mostly silence unless Ezra had a question they could work over as they took their notes until the lesson was over. Lesson Two
Dorian knew most of the school was working themselves up about Valentine's but his mind was thoroughly focused on the upcoming duelling tournament instead. He hated the crowded hall and having to dress up and awkwardly converse to his peers. Slinging a few spells that he'd spent time cultivating and practicing sounded far more enjoyable.
It did mean that he was somewhat distracted in his classes this week however, something he wasn't exactly proud of, but at least Professor Corrins was apparently going to keep things interesting, covering two spells in class today. Which meant Dorian really needed to focus.
The cheering charm sounded like pretty powerful magic, Dorian was sure Ezra would love if he used it when he was being a downer but Dorian would be lying if the idea of anyone, even Ezra, messing with his emotions made him feel uneasy. He knew he'd need to practice it at some point, but there was no way he was doing it in class or in front of anyone he didn't trust any time soon.
The locomotion charm sounded much more useful (and less mortifying to be subjected too) and Dorian squared his parchment to take more notes as Professor Corrins explained more, trying not to roll his eyes when he heard Anisha speak up to answer the question.
After covering the wand movements and pronunciation, they were left for the rest of the lesson to practice their spells. Dorian had already decided he'd work today on the locomotion charm, content as he careful starting with a few marbles on his desk, neatly and carefully sliding them from one end to the other with his wand. It felt similar to the levitation spell and Dorian felt confident he was getting the hang of it, deciding to take a risk and jump up to move a bowling ball next. The weight definitely made things harder though and Dorian had just started getting it moving when the lesson period ended and it was time to pack up. Lesson Four
Dorian had found by this time of year he did best if he just sunk himself into his classwork and didn't think about anything else. The castle could be overwhelming otherwise and he was glad to be able to have most of his classes with Ezra now as he sat down for Charms, briefly puzzling at the flower in the professor's hair before focusing on the spells they'd be covering today.
The two spells seemed fairly self-explanatory and Dorian watched as the professor demonstrated them on a marble before inviting them to do the same. He didn't really care that they'd get to keep except maybe as something to practice, though he did idly wonder about glass shards if someone managed to blow theirs up with a botched spell, shifting his seat slightly away from some of the students who looked like they might struggle more before turning to work with his own marble.
He decided to work on shrinking the marble first, which after a few botched first attempts, he realized was maybe not his best idea, the marble now so tiny it was hard to aim at and Dorian fretted he'd end up enlarging his desk in front of the entire class by mistake. Discretion being the better part of valor, Dorian sucked it up and selected a new marble from the professor instead, giving her sheepish look that likely came across more cross than anything. New marble in hand, Dorian worked on the engorgement charm first, content to work on enlarging and shrinking his marble until the lesson period ended. Lesson Six
While Dorian tended to lament the end of the semester and all the weeks of revision it brought before exams, he did have to admit he craved the quiet of home the closer the end of the year got. He'd greatly enjoyed his classes for the most part this year, but that didn't mean he wasn't ready for a break from all the other students at Hogwarts.
At least there was plenty to review in Charms and Dorian brushed up on some of the spells they'd covered this year, doing some reading before taking some notes in invisible ink so he could practice the revealing charm. He knew he probably needed to do more work on the cheering charm too, but Dorian was still not keen on doing that anywhere in public, instead working on the locomotor charm and a study guide until it was time to pack up, giving Professor Corrins a stiff nod before leaving.
