Although he was a little nervous not to have a full compliment of alternates after their tryouts, Connor was doing his best to focus on the team he had. The cup was theirs, and Hufflepuff would have to play harder than ever to keep it that way, with the whole school now gunning for them. Hopefully he and Tilly had put up a strong enough showing against Ilvermorny to make them think twice, and there was no denying Lucas was an incredible Seeker. Hopefully, this would again be their year. Once the team had gathered on the pitch he cleared his throat for attention, doing his best to speak more clearly than he had at the Prefect meeting. "Hi everyone, alright, just a quick few words before we get started. First I wanna say thanks to everyone who's returned from last year, and welcome to our new players, Leonardo and Felix. This team did amazing work last year, and we're gonna do our best to keep that streak going and keep the cup in Hufflepuff's hands this year. We're gonna have to work hard to make that happen, so I wanna see everyone's best work out on that pitch. Chasers, practice passing and throwing. We've only got Linden on defense, so fly a lap of the pitch between each goal. Focus on teamwork, that's where you guys need to shine. Linden, just stay sharp and focused on your own task, don't pay attention to any of the other players, it's just you and the Quaffle. Tilly, René, we'll be focusing on Lucas and Felix today, putting them through their paces. It might get scary, Felix, but it'll be good practice for a real game, and we won't hurt you too badly. Try to learn everything you can from Lucas, he knows what he's doing. Alright, everyone's got their tactics, let's get going!" Connor gave a sharp blast of his whistle, soaring into the sky with the rest of the team as the practice began.

OOCOut of Character:

Felix had been ecstatic when the teams line up was posted and he had made the team. He was just an alternate but he was still going to count it as a success. His enthusiasm wavered only slightly after Connor's warning when he remembered just how brutal the Illvermorny game had been last year. He stood up straighter to his full, but not that impressive height, and gave the captain a reassuring thumbs up. He would try his best. A moment later he took to the air and tried to watch Lucas without being too obvious as he started his own search for the snitch.

René hadn't gotten to play during their big championship match last year, but he had technically helped when they'd crushed Ilvermorny after that, so he was feeling pretty confident about his spot on the team again this year. Still, it was a relief to see he back on as an alternate this year, though it felt a bit more daunting with the knowledge that next year he'd be trying out to fill Connor's spot instead. He listened as Connor addressed the team, things seeming off without Amy up there as well, before nodding and mounting his broom and kicking off. He felt a little bad aiming for Felix right out of the gate, but Connor had warned him, to be fair.

For all the tough talk, Connor didn't feel great about the idea of aiming at a second year - Felix looked so tiny, had Connor really been that small when he was twelve? - but the other alternative was aiming for Lucas, and he didn't feel great about that either. Lucas would be more prepared, sure, but with everything between them as rocky as it was.... Flying towards a Bludger, Connor made a split second decision as he aimed, sending the ball straight into the team's newest Seeker. After he saw the Bludger make contact, Connor flew straight over to Felix. "You okay?"
@Felix Carnahan

Felix hadn't seen the bludger coming at all. He had been so focused on his search and practice had just started. He didn't think that he would be in danger so soon, but the bludger apparently had other plans as it crashed into his shoulder and sent him spinning. He gripped his broom with both hands and closed his eyes until he was able to find his balance again. When he finally opened his eyes, he was still in the air but his shoulder ached. He heard Connor ask if he was okay but he couldn't find his words yet so he shrugged which pulled on his aching muscles making him groan.

René had been busy tailing the other bludger when he heard Connor talking to Felix further along the pitch. He was already mid-swing of his own bat, realizing that Connor had just hit Felix and hesitating right as he made contact, skewing the hit as the bludger shot off. René wasn't sure if he should be relieved when the bludger knocked into @Connor Holland instead of Felix, considering Connor was busy checking on their new seeker, but it seemed better than hitting Felix so hard so early.

Connor could see Felix looked a little off, reaching out to check the boy's shoulder and make sure there wasn't something seriously wrong. He didn't even have time to touch it though when another bludger hit him directly in the back. Connor cried out and his broom lurched for a moment, almost tipping him off before he quickly got his grip again. Wincing at the pain, Connor glanced back at René. "Good shot, but go for Lucas next time!" He called out.

"Right, yeah, sorry," René said, giving Connor a sheepish nod as he turned his broom back around. Better for Connor to think that was on purpose he figured, adjusting his grip on his bat and continuing about the pitch.

Connor gave René a quick wave before heading after the bludger that had hit him, gripping his bat and giving a firm swing. He aimed for Lucas this time, hoping to give Felix a break, but the ball flew past him and hit @Blair Bianchi instead.

Blair x1

Blair was extremely happy to be back on the team and this time, on the main team. Blair caught the quaffle as it was in the game and when she was starting to look around if someone was there, she didn't notice the bludger and when it hit her leg, she quietly swore in Russian. Blair fastly showed thumbs up and continued her way to the hoops, glad that she had managed to keep the quaffle.

René looped the pitch, trying to match pace with one of the bludgers. He slowed down as Connor landed another hit, deathly curious what Blair had just said in Russian but not having the guts to ask. She was intimidatingly pretty and he didn't want to distract her after she'd just been hit too.

Leonardo was eager to get to a practice. He wanted to do well in his first real show of his skills. He got onto his broom and followed the older girl, Blair or something, who had the ball. He could spot that another people inlcuding Felix had been hit with bludgers and though it was part of the game, Leo really hoped he wouldn't get hit too often.

Focusing back on the bludgers, René took after the one that had hit Blair, trying to catch up so he could get in a good swing.

Back still aching from the hit, Connor flew off after a bludger, swinging and once again missing his target. The bludger flew clear past Lucas, this time hitting @Rene Tofilau instead. He winced and looked over to make sure the boy was okay.

René had his sights set on the bludger in front of him that he'd completely forgotten about the second one; a mistake he paid for when it collided sharply with his side, knocking him off course and nearly causing him to drop his bat. "Now we're even, right?" He called sheepishly to Connor, wincing and holding his side, allowing himself a moment to grimace at the pain before trying to get back to playing so he could shake it off.

Connor flew closer to check on René, laughing slightly at his comment. "Even." He agreed, flying off in search of another bludger once he was sure the younger boy was alright.

Blair understood that she had to pass the quaffle because she had lost her chance to actually go for a shot, so she noticed the closest Player and passed the quaffle to @Jordan Harris

Jordie wasn't feeling like himself. Not even a little. He was quiet as he walked onto the pitch, not even offering a smile to any of his teammates. He was trying to just focus on the game. He caught the ball as Blair tossed it to him and flew towards Linden.

Leonardo had been flying along side the girl who had the quaffle and watched as she passed to the older boy, Jordan, whom he knew had been on the team a while. He chased him now, knowing he probably wouldn't be able to do better than him, but to still be involved in the practice.

Lucas was ready for the practice. He wanted to show he could still do it, though he wanted to help the new alternate seeker too. He took to the air, wincing at all the bludgers being hit at several people already.

Still wincing a bit, René turned his attention back to trying to find where the bludgers had gotten too.

Rule 2

Leonardo ended up seeing an opportunity and stole the quaffle from the older chaser, continuing to head towards the hoops.

While looking for a bludger at a good angle to hit, Connor kept one eye on his teammates, pleased to see the chasers heading for a goal. He looked away and returned to his own task, trying to ignore the aching in his back.

Leo didn’t have much distance left to travel, so he had to throw the ball but it went a little wide. He could do better than that, but that was the purpose of this practice, to work at it and get better at it.

Flying on, Connor caught up to a bludger and swung hard, sighing as his shot missed Lucas yet again. He wasn't entirely happy about missing, but at the same time he wasn't exactly sad about not hitting Lucas.
