@Juniper Zumwalt vs @Lysander Summers

Angel stretched as he stepped up to the duelling platform, motioning to the two students to join him at opposite ends before surveying the crowd. Content everyone looked ready, he addressed the gathered students. "Welcome to your first round of duelling, let's have a nice clean duel today. The victor will be able to continue on to the rest of the tournament, and the loser will sadly be eliminated. When you're ready, please bow to your opponent and begin!" He said with a flourish, letting the students get started.
The duel begins now. You have 24 hours from this to post your first reply, or face disqualification. Once both duelists have posted, you will have 24 hours from your opponents post to reply, or be disqualified. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. Duels will run until there is a winner or until 6 IRL days have passed, in which case the winner will be chosen by RNG. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!

As an added note: Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels.

Juniper couldn't believe that she had to not only defend her title but her position as SDA co-leader. Even if she had another opponent this first round, she knew that she'd likely end up dueling with Lysander anyway, as both of them were both so stubborn when it came to competition. Taking to the stage, she bowed slightly and quickly raised her wand. "Incendio!"

Lysander was facing off against Juniper in the first round again? He'd wanted to face off against someone else for a change, but at least this way, no one else would have the opportunity to take her out before he could. He bowed lightly, holding back a grimace, and raised his wand to cast his first spell. "Aguamenti!" He shouted, dousing the flames and annoyed that she'd been faster than him. Her obsession with trying to set him on fire was too much. "Langlock!" He shot back.

Juniper grimaced as Lysander quickly blocked her spell, feeling remnants of his water spell hit her. Wiping her face, she blocked his feeble attempt at a spell, frustrated that this happening, yet again. "Confringo!" she shouted.

Sydney lurked in the back of the room, watching as Juniper took on Lysander. She sincerely hoped Juniper wasn't about to lose to this idiot, happy at least to see she wasn't pulling any punches as the duel started. Not only would be embarrassing enough to have her co-lead taken out in the first round, but to Lysander Summers of all people, Sydney clicked her tongue, following the duel closely.

Lysander wasn't surprised Juniper would try to use a spell like the blasting curse, but she'd resorted to attempted murder a lot earlier in the duel than he'd expected. "Protego!" He shouted, stumbling back as the force of the spell hit his shield. He righted himself, and fired back with a jelly-brain jinx.

Juniper couldn't understand why Lysander's face just made her angry. He really didn't have to do anything - it was just his face. She blocked his spell, staring him down, and sent back a Confundus Charm.

Lysander threw up another shield, and deftly fired back with a slug-vomiting charm, hoping to put Juniper through some of the grief she'd caused him before.

Juniper was staring at Lysander's ridiculously shaped eyebrows and reacted too slow. She felt a jolt and then a familiar pressure in her abdomen. As something came up her throat, she felt the slime ooze out her mouth, plopping a slug on the floor. "You bast-" Juniper started before another slug quickly arrived. Spitting the leftover slime on the floor in front of her, the reigning duelist raised her wand, sending a jelly-fingers jinx towards Lysander.

Lysander snickered, quite pleased with himself. He held a hand to his ear. "What was that? I didn't catch that." He grinned, raising his wand to cast up another shield. A strong start, he thought. This had to be it, the year he finally reclaimed the title Juniper had stolen and flaunted about. "Petrificus Totalus!" He fired back.

Casper didn't know why he'd come to the duels. But here he was. He had been watching, hands over his mouth, and wide eyed, the entire duel. He usually hated things like this, but he oddly enough thought maybe he should be there for Lysander. He gasped loudly as Juniper started spitting slugs and looked back to Lysander with wide eyes. He was good.

Juniper hated this stupid slug spell, and even though she had used it herself on Lysander (and potentially others), she figured this year that they'd use more advanced and respectable spells. She'd obviously been wrong. Vomiting up another slug, the sixth year blocked Lysander's spell and then picked up a slug, throwing it at him. "Finite," she said, pointing her wand to her stomach. Still feeling uneasy, she spit some more slime on the stage. "Is that the best you have?" Juniper taunted.

Lysander smirked at Juniper, feeling more confident by the second. He ducked to avoid a slug she'd thrown at him, though ended up having to pick flecks of slime out of his hair with the tip of his wand. "Nah. I'm just warming up. Why, are you ready to forfeit already?" He asked, flicking his wand at her. "Incarcerous." He incanted, conjuring a coil of ropes in an attempt to bind her.

Juniper wiped the sludge from her chin, kicking one of the slugs out of her way. She really couldn't lose and knew Sydney was watching. What would that make her? A fraud? Just lucky? Not wanting to really have a chance to find out, she blocked Lysander's spell, feeling the weight of it push her back a few steps. "Not even close, Summers!" she called. "Stupefy," Juniper hurled, sending her spell right at Lysander's smug face.

Lysander thought for a moment that he had it, but let out a huff when his ropes fell short against Juniper's shield. He brought up another shield to defend himself against her stunning charm, squinting against the flash of red light. "Expelliarmus!" He hit back, jabbing his wand in the air.

Juniper could feel her blood boiling as Lysander blocked her spell once again. She just wanted to take the kid out. With a swish of her wand, she threw up another shield charm before jabbed her wand in his direction. "Petrificus Totalus!" Maybe he'd just keel over and this would finally end.

Lysander danced backwards, throwing up a shield to defend himself from the petrifying curse. Juniper looked pissed, and he hoped that maybe throwing up a couple slugs had taken enough energy out of her. "Can you still taste the slime?" He asked, trying to distract her before he sent out a confundus charm.

Juniper cursed as Lysander was still able to block her spell. She could in fact still taste slug and reminded herself to spit again as the residual slime felt like it was building up. Juniper threw up a shield, standing her ground against the pushback, before throwing Confringo again.

Lysander raised his wand to conjure another shield, though he'd been too slow, feeling the brunt of the blasting curse hit him square in the chest and pain blossom throughout. His feet momentarily left the platform, flying back a couple of feet before landing roughly on his back and skidding a couple more. He groaned, laying dangerously close to the edge of the platform. His hand reached for his chest, hissing at how tender it felt. Every breath had him wincing. Juniper wasn't holding back. He struggled to his feet, sucking in enough breath to throw a canary-transfiguration hex back at Juniper.

Casper had been riveted in place, watching the match with wide eyes and hands over his mouth. When the Gryffindor was thrown back, Casper gasped loudly, the color draining from his face. "Lysander!" He squeaked. He watched the boy anxiously, whimpering and biting his lip as Lysander continued on with the duel.

Juniper was frustrated by this whole thing but felt a moment of hope when she saw Lysander fall back. It took her a second to realize she had sent an exploding spell at him, but it seemed the shield had helped him not die. She didn't want to kill Lysander. Just mame... or seriously injure. In the midst of her surprise, she was too slow to block his spell yet again, managing a small shield charm that only seemed to protect the left side of her body and felt remnants of the spell hit her shoulder and arm where yellow feathers began to sprout under her robes, quickly peaking through. "Stop turning me into animals you deadhead," she said, spitting a feather away from her face. "Incarcerous!" she sent back as a few feathers flew around her.

Lysander was disappointed to see that Juniper was still very much not a canary, but he grinned gleefully when he made out what looked like a few yellow feathers, an act that sent a sharp pain through his chest and left him grimacing. Small victories, he thought. "Stop acting like one, then." He retorted. It might have been insensitive to say about animals, since none of his were nearly as vicious as his opponent. He opened his mouth to cast a shield charm, though the ache from the exploding charm had him spluttering over his words. The ropes wrapped themselves around him, binding his arms, legs and wrists tightly together. He struggled to retain his balance, already having a hard enough time moving as it was, with the still-smoking hole in his shirt. He grit his teeth, and managed to awkwardly maneuver the wand between his hands until it was firmly grasped between the two, and pointed at Juniper. "Langlock!" He shouted, hoping to finally shut her up.

Juniper watched as Lysander was hit by her spell but somehow finagled his way out of the ropes enough to cast a spell. She growled at his comments and was just generally pissed, blocking his spell and sending back a jelly brain jinx.

Lysander snorted. Was Juniper growling? After complaining about being turned into an animal? He casted a shield charm to protect himself, wobbling slightly from the recoil, and fired back with a disarming charm, moving his arms around like a tank turret.
