Y36 Sorting Ceremony

Rúben just wanted to get this over with. Maybe not? Is it possible to wanna live in this moment for ever but also just kill the butterflies in your stomach? He knew he could only be sorted in one house..."Please not Gryffindor that's all I ask". His parents were both Gryffindors but he didn't wanna be one because he didn't wanna live up to their expectations. New house, new experiences. He doesn't know what his house would be, he doesn't have that bravery above all else like Gryffindors but he fits perfectly in all the other houses, smart like a Ravenclaw, caring like and Hufflepuff and cunning and manipulative like a Slytherin. He doesn't know, what he will be but he knows what he wants.

"Right, Rúben Harrington"

That was it, his turn, he gets up. He suddenly has to pee really bad but he pulls himself together, all he thinks is "Now's the time, I trust the Hat so I'm sure he'll make the best choice whatever that is".

"I always make the best choices, and I can see that you really don't want a specific lion house....okay then...Slytherin"

Walking through the giant archway into the Great Hall was an experience like no other Skylar could ever have imagined. Sure, she knew in hindsight she'd probably have found her reaction a bit over the top, but for now she was enjoying it and that was all that mattered. Coming in as a second year student was hard, especially since she'd have to get sorted with the first years ugh. They were little pests, jostling around all wanting to get a look at the Great Hall first. At least she had her twin brother with her, without him she wouldn't know how she'd cope. She'd been home schooled up until now, but having muggle parents who ran their own business on the farm meant they took her education pretty seriously, and wanted her to grow up and start her own business just like them, so while she knew she'd probably lack skills in classes like Charms and Transfiguration, she hoped she would at least excel in Arithmancy. Although let's be honest, she was still contemplating even taking Arithmancy, she didn't want to seem like the nerd. "Snap out of it and focus" she mentally scolded herself. The sorting hat had just finished his song and she was a bit dissapointed to not have heard it, after all, even with her limited knowledge of wizarding and hogwarts in general, she knew of the great Sorting Hat.

"Skylar Anderson?"

She froze after hearing her name. She'd zoned out again, and not paid attention to the students in front of her! "What the bloody hell am I supposed to do now....?" she muttered. Thankfully, her brother pushed her forward and whispered, "just go sit on that 3 legged stool, and don't make a fool of yourself". Always so encouraging, he was. Well, nothing left to do but to go sit on that old-looking stool, and get sorted.

She wasn't sure which house she'd want, well actually, she knew she definitely didn't want Ravenclaw. "Bunch of nerds they are" she thought to herself. Coming closer and closer to the stool she thought of the other options, "Gryffindor? I suppose they do seem like a fun bunch, wouldn't mind getting sorted there." "Hufflepuff? They're all pretty nice and loyal, she shouldn't have many problems finding some friends, which she expected to be harder seeing as she was coming in a year later than all the others." "Or Slytherin? She wondered quite a lot about that one. On the one hand, it was obviously known for producing dark wizards, and having a lot of pro-purebloods so she wasn't sure whether they'd accept her, what with her being muggle-born and all, but on the other hand she thought they'd be the most valuable allies in helping her pull off some of her pranks she had thought of on the train ride here." "Guess I'll just have to wait and see."

And she sat down on the stool, ready and waiting to see what fate would choose for her.

"There's a little of everything here...some smarts..some learning..some ambition, but above all, is a desire for adventure...Gryffindor,"

Lud was anxious. She couldn’t wait for her name to be called. Even though she was trying, her anxiety didn’t allow her to focus on the ceremony and kept looking around and trying to guess which of all those students would be her housemate. It felt like years until her name was called.
Soon as Lud heard her name, she got sacred and nervous. She got up and almost wasn’t able to walk. Her hands were cold and shaking. Her face showed to everyone in the room how nervous and hopeful she was.
Hi! I’m Lud! I... I’m just so nervous... Im also glad that my name was finally called, I couldn’t wait to be here and know my tower! Please, I would love to be in Ravenclaw...”
After that, Lud closed her eyes and just hoped that the hat would listen to her.

"You'd love to be in ravenclaw? Hmmmm....well...I can certainly see it, alright then...Ravenclaw"

Lana wasn’t ready for the ceremony. It was her first time in a place full of unknown people and that’s was a thing that scared her. She tried to keep calm as the Professor called the other students names. Lana was biting her nails from how nervous she was unlike her sister that was excited to be there. Her sister looked at her and asked
“Are you ok ?” Lana didn’t know what to answer so she just nods her head like a little kid. Her sister was worried with her, what if she doesn’t get sorted to their family house ? or what if she hates here ?
Ana calmed herself and waited for her name and her sister name to come up.
Right away Ana’s name was called
“ Chombrun, Anastacia”
Lana looked at her sister when she heard her name. Her sister walked in a fast pace until she finally sits on the chair. Lana looked at her sister and smiled as her sister was sorted in Slytherin.
Slytherin was their family house and Lana was scared she wasn’t going to make it.
Lana observed her sister while the one sits at the Slytherin table.
“ Chombrun, Alana !”
Lana jumped as her names was called, she was nervous, very nervous. Her heart was racing, her palms were sweating, and her body was shaking as she walked to the Sorting Hat. She walked in a slow pace, and she could feel the students eyes in her back.
She got to the chair and looked at all the students, none of them were making a noise, is like the world stopped right there, right now. Lana sits nervously in the chair and she waiting for the Sorting Hat to tell her house.
She was shaking her leg up and down as she waited.

"Well...you certainly seem to favour one house over the others...you'd make a pretty good ravenclaw, even a fair hufflepuff...but I guess the strongest is what you want...Slytherin,"

Zara hadn't been looking forward to sorting. Honestly, it was the event she was most dreading since deciding to come to Hogwarts New Zealand. Everything else should be fairly easy once sorting was done if everything went her way. She was relieved though that their dad was no longer teaching in this school, otherwise she would have dreaded sorting even more. When she and her siblings had hopped on the Hogwarts Express, she was a bit quiet, but now she was bordering on mute, her nerves high up in the roof as she and her brothers waited for their sorting. It was a long, long wait before they would even be called with their surname Woodlock, and among the three of them, she would be going last. There was a lump in her throat as James was called and sorted into Slytherin - she mentally noted that he was now in the same house as Olivia. Zara didn't even notice Ryan being sorted and she swore to apologize to him later for not paying attention to his own big moment - especially when he had been looking forward to it. Zara swallowed the non-existing lump as her name was called.
"Woodlock, Zara,"
She approached and sat on the stool, her heart beating wildly as she tried to calm her nerves. Anywhere but Ravenclaw, she repeated like a mantra, almost begging the hat. She didn't think that she wanted to be reminded once again just how like her mother she was if she was sorted into the house of blues and eagles. Any other house would be fine with her. Just not Ravenclaw.

"Just not ravenclaw? Oh...I can why....well...all aside you would've made a great Ravenclaw...but you'll manage just as well in hufflepuff."

Marc stood silently in the sea of 11 year-olds, his dark brown eyes wandering around the whole Great Hall and staring at the hanging candles in wonder. He heard excited whispers all around him, talking about which house they would be sorted in and how they would stay friends.

If he was being honest, Marc still didn't truly understand what was going on around him. The magic, the wizards and witches- it was all against what he was taught to believe in. He was still surprised but happy that his parents had even allowed him to go, considering how religious they were.

"Morales, Marc Matthew," a booming voice called out, startling Marc out of his trance. He awkwardly ascended the steps and took a seat on the stool. He wrung his hands on his lap, feeling nervous with all the awaiting eyes that were watching him.

Well, well, well, what an interesting one, this is, a voice whispered in Marc's ear. He jumped in his place, feeling a cold chill run up his spine. Why are you so afraid, boy? When you could be so much stronger if you stood up for yourself?

"It's much better to stay still and obey," Marc talked back, closing his mouth in surprise after he realized he said that out loud.

"Hmmm....whether you can see it, there is a courage in you, but, you need the support that can only be provided in...Hufflepuff,"

Ryan had been bubbling with energy even before they had gotten on the train this morning. It was just too exciting to go to Hogwarts and though he knew that Zara was apprehensive about it, he just couldn't quite share the sentiment. He knew James was looking forward to this though. After only hearing stories about Hogwarts from their dad and Olivia, Ryan had been ready to go to school ever since he had received his letter. And now that they were minutes - probably longer - away from sorting, he could barely stand still. It was a long, long, long while before the first year students begun to thin out and were seated in their respective tables. It sure sucked to have a surname that ended in W. He was relieved though when James was finally called and that meant he was next. He gave a Zara a reassuring smile as he held her hand and gave it a small squeeze just as James was sorted and he was called.
"Woodlock, Ryan,"
Sporting a broad grin, Ryan made his way over to the stool and had the Sorting Hat placed on his head. Yo, Mr. Sorting Hat, long day? he whispered. He hoped this would be over with really quickly. He just wanted to know his house already!

"It has been a very long day...but it's only one day a year..for you this will be the first day of a brand new adventure, and an adventure suited to....Ravenclaw"

Excited to finally go to Hogwarts herself, Elodie had been bouncing around excitedly the whole day until they reached the castle. She was still very much excited, it was just that it was suddenly dawning on her how close they actually were to start their own magical journey. She smiled at her friend when she could feel her hand being squeezed while they walked up to the front of the Great Hall. The stories she had been told about it didn't do it justice, it was much better in real life. She pointed out things to Marie while the headmistress was explaining the rules of the sorting ceremony, thinking that they wouldn't really need to pay much attention to it since both were aware of it already, or at least she was. She nodded encouragingly when it was Marie's turn to be sorted, watching eagerly what the hat would do next.

It was only after Marie had been sorted that she realised how long she would have to wait to be sorted into one of the houses herself. And so Elodie waited patiently for the headmistress to reach the end of the list, looking over her shoulder every once in a while to make eye contact with her friend, grinning. She couldn't help to feel a little nervous when there were only a few of them left, though. She had been told about the whole sorting process by her brother and finally understood why he had disliked the ceremony, it was the waiting around that made it nerve-wracking. She even momentarily began to doubt if there was even a house best suited for her because of it. She moved to sit on the stool when her name was called out, at last, making eye contact with Marie one more time and giving her the thumbs up to indicate that everything would be fine no matter which house she herself would be sorted into.

"You will be fine no matter what house you are sorted into...lucky for you I'll take no time at all with this...Hufflepuff."

When her name was called out, she was ready. She had been waiting for this moment since her mother had first told her about Hogwarts and the four houses. And she was also sure she would get sorted to the same house her parents had gone to. She couldn't wait to see what adventures were waiting for her, how many friends (and enemies) she would find!
She walked to the stool, head high and proud like she had been taught all those years before by her mother. Now that she was closer, her mind couldn’t stop but wonder what her parents would say if she didn’t get sorted into the green and silver house. As the hat touched her head, she held her breath. She repeated one sentence, over and over again, in her mind, aware the hat could hear: Please, let me make my family proud. Please let me make my family proud!

"You'll make your family proud no matter the house...but you'll definitely excel where you want to go....Slytherin,"

Estelle Bloodworth put on the exterior of being excited but she was worried and amazed. She had heard so much about Hogwarts for her parents and she saw how proud they were when she got in. She couldn't disappoint them! She secretly hoped they'd be happy no matter which house she was in. But she'd just have to wait and see. During the beginning of the ceremony she looked around and remember all the stories she'd heard from her parents and family friends. There wasn't much time to look around tho cause her last name did begin with B.
"Bloodworth Estelle"
It was her turn. She lifted up her head and walked up to the hat. She put it on and kept up her exterior of being sure and confident. Was she worried? Maybe a little... Hopefully she'll be a Slytherin tho. But the Sorting Hat knows what it's doing. Right....?

"I do know what I'm doing...and I know that what you're hopeful for is the right place for you....Slytherin,"

Oscar liked the fact that he would be able to finally learn something of value instead of something he would barely ever use in life. His Muggle school would be a joke compared to Hogwarts. He followed the other students to the front of the Great Hall, a little distracted by his new surroundings so that he had to keep up with the rest of them while they walked. So far everything was just like the stories his parents had told him. He could only hope that the school would prove even better than the stories. There was no doubt it would, of course, it would, how could a castle this massive ever be boring? Surely there was plenty to do and even more to learn? It didn't take awfully long for his name to be called out, thankfully. Oscar sat down on the stool and stared out into the Great Hall, patiently awaiting the hat's decision.

"Hmmm..interesting....you certain bridge the line between Slytherin and Ravenclaw - you would do well in either....but you have a desire to learn more than anything...so best be....Ravenclaw"

Seb could feel the bubbles gurgling in his stomach. He put his hand over his tummy, trying to get them to shhh, but he couldn't help how his body was feeling. It was a mixture of nerves and excitement. He felt odd, being away from his mother. He had been preparing for it, but for the majority of his life, it had just been the two of them. And now he was by himself. He was worried he wouldn't be able to make any friends. It wasn't the biggest worry on his mind, but definitely something that niggled at his brain. But, standing amongst a sea of other first years, he was sure that a lot of them felt the same. He could almost feel everyone's nervous and excited energy. It comforted him, somewhat. But with every name spoken, every House sorted, meant it was closer to his turn, and when his full name was finally called, his stomach was almost in his throat. Seb took a breath to try calm himself before walking up to the seat.

"A sensitive soul? Well we don't have a lot of those in these parts....and you'll excel well in....Hufflepuff"

Maria looked around the great hall and felt kinda nervous. A few moments after she hears: "Maria Lages!", now it was her turn. Being a transferred student she was going directly into year 5, and that made her anxious because she didn't knew anyone while the other student already knew themselves for five years. She stood up and walked towards the sorting hat, she always believed she would be a Hufflepuff or Slytherin, but it wasn't never sure about which was she fitted in the most. Well, now is the time to find out.

Sage stood among all the other chattering, soon to be, students of Hogwarts waiting for the headmistress to address everyone and start the sorting ceremony. Sage isn't exactly a 'people person' per say. She stood there quietly, listening to the rules and warnings the headmistress states, then when she starts calling names to come up to the sorting hat, she starts zoning out, thinking about her goal for while she's here. Her only real family at this point was her litter sister Ally. Sure she has her dad but he was barely ever there, leaving her to pretty much take care of Ally on her own. Leaving Ally to come here was so hard she almost didn't come. But then, she decided to do this FOR Ally. To become powerful, learn magic, and get stronger. So Ally finally has someone to look up to. To have a role model. This was Sage's main, if not only, goal. She doesn't have time for distractions like getting all buddy buddy with people.

Lightwood, Sage

As she hears her name, she looks up and steels her self. She strides forward with purpose, head held high, looking straight forward. She sits on the stool, waiting for the hat to be placed on her head. As it's fully placed on her her head, she closes her eyes and thinks to herself,

"For Ally"

"Hmmm, interesting.....ah....okay I see, this just got easier...Slytherin"

Phoenix was nervous but excited. She kept playing with the hair tie on her wrist. An old habit she picked a few years ago. She blocked out the other sounds in the room, hearing only her loud heartbeat. Her stomach growled and she tried to shush it. Phoenix didn't buy any food on the way to Hogwarts and was now regretting her decision. She glanced around, not focusing on a single thing. The other kids were whispering amongst themselves and Phoenix could only hope that she would be able to make friends easily. She was an easy, outgoing person but sometimes people didn't like her chatty nature. It would be nice to have friends to study with though. Phoenix loved to read and when she was explaining different books to her friends, they would often zone out, but hopefully, Phoenix would make friends that didn't mind her constant chatter about different books. She also hoped that they wouldn't mind if she practised her many instruments. Phoenix loved music as much as she loved reading. She hoped to be a famous musician when she was older or a detective. She couldn't pick. She was soon pulled out of her thoughts as she heard her name being called.

"Collins, Phoenix"

Phoenix thought she heard people singer at her name but she didn't mind. After all, if anyone were to make fun of her directly, they would pay. She walked up the steps, being careful not to trip. She sat down on the stool peered at the different houses. Phoenix could only hope for the best.

"Hopefully you find the best where you end up.....Ravenclaw"

Billie didn't like the crowded place she was in, but she knew it was going to be over soon as the names were read and the people surrounding her would sit at their houses tables, like she would. She was nervous as expected, her parents only gave her knowledge of what it was like for them at their time here but she only remembers snippets of their bedtime stories so she didn't know what was going to happen. They hadnt told her much about it when she got her letter either, they couldn't care less really, dropping her off at the train station without a goodbye. It didn't really bother her, she was used to it, and her excitment overrides their carelessness. As each student sat on the rickety stool and the old, dusty hat was placed on their head, River could only imagine what was going inside their minds. Luckily, she was way down the list and got to understand the process of the sorting hat. It was fairly simple: sit, let the hat think about it and wait for its answer. Billie soon realised they were up to the 'R's and slowly breathed through the nose and out through the mouth. Nervous was an understatement.

"River, Billie."

Billie walked to the front of the crowd and up the steps of the stage to the stool. Billie was worried it was going to break when she sat on it but luckily it didn't and the hat was placed upon her head. Billie didn't know the difference between each house, although she knew their names, she didn't know the difference which she will soon learn. She looked aross the sea of eyes staring at her, she wasn't use to people noticing her so she looked to the ground and tried to forget about the faces. Then she heard the hat mumble and start to speak,

"I do mumble a lot...mumbling helps me think! But for you, I don't need to think all that much, your kind heart places you easily in.....Hufflepuff"

The noise of the hall rang throughout silvias's entire body. Back home, if you could even call his old boarding school that, students were certainly required to be a lot more disciplined then here. It would certainly take him a while to loosen up in his new environment. On the way in he had noticed a large dark forest, and since then his mind had been preoccupied on imagining exploring it by the light of the moon once this whole ceremony was over. Perhaps after a night of rest though, he was feeling awfully tired. Hearing his name called suddenly pulled him back into the moment. He could feel tens of eyes weighing upon him as he made his way up to the front. It wasn't quite precise to say it bothered him, he didn't mind what people thought, but it was certainly an unusual feeling. As the hat was placed upon him and he sat looking out into the crowd of people he couldn't help but begin to feel a spark of hope. Perhaps this place could be his new home, not that it had much in way of competition. What ever the hat chose he hoped it happened quickly...

"This place will certainly be your new home for the next few years....I'll be quick...Ravenclaw,"

As Harper entered the Great Hall, she was still expecting someone to jump up and tell her this was all a prank. She looked up at the ceiling. A very, very elaborate prank. How was it possible that there was an entire magical world that she had never heard of before? Even her parents, who were very smart, had never heard of magic until just a few weeks ago. When the government official had come to their house to tell them about Hogwarts and magic and wizards, Harper had felt very dizzy. If she and everyone she knew had somehow failed to notice that there was a whole other world out there, what else had they missed?

The headmistress began to speak, welcoming them to what was definitely the fanciest school Harper had ever attended. It wasn't just a school, it was a castle. With its own forest. How cool was that? Her old school had had a small field and a rundown playground. She'd have to go exploring sometime soon. The headmistress then introduced the houses—Gryffindor's colors were the prettiest—and gestured toward a hat. A hat. That began to sing.

This is absurd. Harper tried to listen to the hat's words, but it was hard to concentrate on anything but the fact that it was singing. She was still trying to process the scene, when she heard her name being called.

"Alston, Harper."

Harper approached the stool and suddenly grew nervous as she stared out at the crowded hall. She was used to going unnoticed and had never really been at the center of so much attention. The headmistress placed the hat on her head, and Harper crossed her fingers, hoping for the best house, whichever house that may be.

"The house which. is best, always depends on whose being sorted for you that's......Gryffindor,"

"Once you are in Hogwarts you will do your best"
"Yes, Father"
"You will not embarrass our name"
"Yes, Father"
"And you will NOT dissapoint me"
"I won't, Father"
"No heir of mine would make a fool of themselves, remember Angelina, you are a Nikolai, you are strong, worthy of any title. But" her father's voice suddenly started to fade until.
"Angelina Nikolai!" Her name was called out at least 2 times
"I'm terribly sorry" she said in a low voice almost like a whisper walking her way to the stool and sits down.
"But remember, Angelina" her heart raises as the sorting hat was placed on her head, hearing her father's voice again "Make a fool of your title and I will tear off the Nikolai name away from you" the voice of her father has finally stopped. Her family always had high expectations when it comes to anything that she does. Even if under pressure from her family name, she is determined to do anything to make herself be a leader like her father once was.
"I'm a Nikolai" she thought to herself.

"And I'm a hat.....and I wouldn't worry, where you're heading, you can use that ambition and tradition and excel in...Slytherin,"

Sydney couldn't believe herself. In a moment she was in her goose feather couch and now she is in a magical castle. She looks up. She notices that the ceilings are amazing and the architecture is extremely impressive. The only thing she dislikes are the school faculty clothes...they seem too out dated. She is still new to this so she sees people putting a hat on and the hat says gryffintar? Rack lawn? Oof poof? Sliten? She wonders what those words are and why is a hat talking. Maybe she is not hearing the words very well since she is the back, that's probably it. The teachers said they were houses but why would she need one? She already has six of those. She is lost in her thoughts when she hears her name being called. She gets up, grabs the hem of her skirt trying to calm her nerves and walks towards the stool she has to sit in. She glances up again and notices for the first time some flags. Where they there before? She didn't noticed. She saw some students wearing those exact same colours so all she hoped for was that her house was the blue one. She always looked great in blue besides blue would make her look smarter but what strange word would the hat say?

"I can't attest to if you'd look good in blue...but I know you'd suit the qualities of the blue house and of a certain yellow house too, but you'll be pushed best in the former....Ravenclaw,"

Scarlett is intrigued by all those things. That castle remembered her the old castle she could see from the window of her old country house when she was little. A feeling of nostalgia overwhelms her. She struggles not to cry, but she has to be brave, just like her father is being right now, alone in their house. She can't wait to see him again and tell him all about her adventures in school, how much trouble she got up to, all the things she learned. Her dad told her about the houses system at hogwarts, he was in Gryffindor, and that's all she wanted. To honour him and being a Gryffindor, she didn't quite fit in but she wasn't smart like a Ravenclaw, selfless like an Hufflepuff or witty like a Slytherin. Actually she started to hate Slytherin when once her dad told her about a group of Slytherins who used to mess with him.

"Lawrence, Scarlett"

It was her turn, all she hoped as she walked confidently, was that the hat made a good decision

"I'll make a good decision, and a quick one, because this is easy....Gryffindor,"

Hunter is waiting to be called. He doesn't know anyone so he doesn't know if he should adopt the friendly position and try to befriend some people or just be shy at first to get a little warmed up to the place. All he can think is in what house will he be sorted. The excitement is too much. Whatever it is he is sure he is gonna like it, or maybe learn to like it. His eyes wander in the crowd, so many people. The last time he saw so many people together was...never. He was used to a more calm lifestyle that's why he was stressing so much about what house he would be sorted in. His name is called, finally. He was nervous but also excited. He had a good feelinf about it. This was the start of the rest of his life

"This is the start of the rest of your life, and for you a start that will see you definitely flourish....Hufflepuff,"

Sofia was surrounded by a lot of people and that was something she was definitely not used to. She looked around observing the Great Hall carefully. It was huge! The smiles on the other students faces made her smile too. She felt that this was her opportunity to finally do something good with her life. She wanted to meet new people, help others but most importantly feel like she belonged somewhere.

Her father told her everything he knew about magic, however that wasn't much. He was a muggle so everything he knew was thanks to her mother.
She takes a deep breath.
Her mother was also a witch but she died while giving birth to her... Sofia just hoped she was proud of her.

The names were being called and students were being sorted into their houses.
Finally she hears her name.

"White, Sofia".

She sat on the stool nervously and smiled.

"No need to be nervous, this will be just fine...easy even since...Hufflepuff"

Rye sighs inwardly as both his sisters parted from him. First Cassiah, and then Hayzel. He felt liberated for like the first time ever. He wished for the opposite of what his sisters wanted. Rye desires to be alone in a house of his own. And it was starting to seem like he was getting what he wanted. After Hayzel was sorted into Gryffindor, it was Rye's turn next to join a house. He looked over at Cassiah who's already joined the bronze and blue table. Their eyes met for a second until Rye sat down on the stool. He was without his mask so he felt so exposed, unmasked in front of the entire school. He didn't find that feeling to be appealing. Rye wishes for the hat to hurry up and get on with it.

"Hurry up? But I'm old and thinking is hard...but I guess....I could go quickly...I'll try.....oh no....I'm out of breath.....how's your day going anyway kid? Any fun stories to tell? I bet it's pretty nerve wracking to be last...I've never been sorted so I wouldn't really know....anyway....maybe I should get on with this, I had made up my mind the moment I was placed on your head.....but it's not like I've got a train to catch.....maybe I have made you wait long enough.....Slytherin,"
