Y36 Sorting Ceremony

Giselle did not like being here one bit. It wasn't home to her and it wasn't where her friends were. She didn't care with what house she was sorted in and wanted it to be over and done with. When they walked into the Hall, she looked around but rolled her eyes when people were looking around with amazement. This place wasn't really that special, She just wanted to go back. She zoned out throughout the whole time the headmistress was talking until sorting the students began. Giselle wondered why they used a hat for, it didn't look that interesting to her. It took a while until Giselle's name was called.

"Giselle Miller"

Giselle looked around before quickly making her way to the stool for where she sat, and where the hat was deciding whatever house she was going to be in, she wanted this over and done with.

"It'll be over and done with in a moment....just have to take a little look and see what we've got....hmmm...Slytherin,"

Liusaidh was eager, though it wouldn’t matter where she got sorted, she was still eager to find out. The train ride had been as she expected - boring. Though she felt it was a little better than if she’d gone to the Hogwarts much closer to her, where she’d have travelled all the way to London to then be all of an hour and half from her house. But, it was still boring and she knew that she needed to get through a little without trouble. Of course if she got in trouble now, it wouldn’t really matter, her father could get her into Hogwarts easily. Liusaidh was pretty keen, she didn’t care about much but there was a certain element of what they were doing that she did care about. She cared enough about herself that she wanted to be in front of everyone and sorted. She wanted to get started on her school career and figure out where she was going to have the most fun. She’d met a few of the other students already, some of them had familiar faces and she knew of others from other people. Specifically the girl who was related somehow to some that her sister had once dated. It all felt very mundane and boring but she liked the girl, and hoped somewhat that they might be friendly enough. Liusaidh didn’t need friends, but she knew it would be good to help this whole school thing be a little better. It would make it a little easier. But she knew that though she had a connection to this girl, through family and extended friends, she would happily move on without her. She knew that her sister had friends in areas that were….well, her sister wasn’t her full sister and that meant something to Liusaidh.
Liusaidh followed the rest of the students into the great hall, she was bouncing along trying to look at all the faces in the room. She immediately spotted her brother at the Hufflepuff table. He looked like his usual grouchy self, she swore down she hadn’t seen her brother smile in years...nothing she did made him smile, so she had to imagine that he was just a grouch. He didn’t know or realise how much they fun they could have, there were no consequences for their actions. Or was that just her? She pushed her way to the front of the crowd of students, not bothering to even glance at who she had pushed past. She looked at the hat and then at the headmistress, she wanted to just get started, but of course there was the song, the song that they had to sit through first. Liusaidh nodded along with the song, it wasn’t good, but she thought it was fun. She knew she’d grow tired of hearing a song like it every year, but if it was similar enough perhaps by the end of school she would’ve figured out all of it and be able to sing along to it. When it ended Liusaidh cheered loudly, shouting for an encore but of course she didn’t really want one and no one was ever going to give her one. Instead they were beginning to be called forward. Thankfully her name wasn’t too long into it. She would’ve hated to wait any longer than she had to to get sorted.
Fergusson, Liusaidh
Liusaidh stepped forward, she made sure to give the whole school a little twirl before she took a seat on the stool to get sorted. Her gaze immediately found her brother again. She didn’t have a house preference of course, but Hufflepuff was where most of her family had ended up - bar her disowned brother, but he didn’t matter. She wouldn’t care about breaking tradition, it wasn’t like any of it would matter at all. She just hoped the decision wouldn’t take the hat too long to make.

"People put more importance in me than you certainly do....but this decision is rather easy....Slytherin,"

Elisabeth stood next to her sister and watched as the students were sorted into their homes one after another. She felt Annabeth's hand squeeze her hand tighter, but that didn't stop her from thinking about wanting to enter the same tower as her mom and be next to Anna. However, Elisa was very important. By the time the list had reached her name. Sounded.

''Easterling, Elisabeth Luna''

She slowly climbed the stairs, sat down on the chair, then remembered that the words she was told in the Sorting hat would fulfill your wishes. '' I want to make a lot of friends because they are important. Even so, Annabeth is important to me. Please I want to enter Hufflepuff. Please, please. '' Elisa said quietly to herself, hoping the sorting hat would listen to her.

"So you want Hufflepuff ehh....well, if it's that you want, then that's what you'll get..Hufflepuff,"

Spending any longer in this place than she had to was completely out of the question. As it was she'd had to ride the train with her brother and his dumb girlfriend. That hadn't been a very pleasant experience at all. There was nothing wrong with them specifically, except that they were eternally boring and she knew them well enough as a couple to foresee their boring lives until they died. Nothing exciting would ever happen. Saoirse didn't much care for excitement, to be honest, but she did care about whether or not she would be bored and she certainly didn't want that. In the end, she'd pulled her book out and just flipped through it trying to decide what would be best to do. She definitely wanted to make sure her grades in Potions were topnotch, but there was also the added fact that she wanted to do well in Herbology. She hoped she had them at the same time so she could focus really hard in one semester and then slack off in the second semester. There was nothing wrong with that, right?

"Smith, Saoirse."

Saoirse walked quickly up the small steps, rolling her eyes at the fact that they were stone, and placed the sorting hat on her head. She didn't really care where she wanted to go, she just didn't want to be stuck with Baltair or his stupid girlfriend.

"I think you care just a little....Slytherin,"

Danae was trying to see Thomas or Jenna, but there were too much people, all looked the same, and Danae couldn't see any of her siblings. She felt sick of stressing and waiting when she will be sorted. Her head hurt a bit and ears were ringing. What if Sorting Hat won't sort her in right House? Danae even didn't know where she would belong. How could a hat know that?
Jusantrea, Danae.
She almost forget her name. Only few seconds later she looked up and went to hat. She had heard in train, that Huftlepuff is house for all those who are not brave, smart or ambitious, for all those who doesn't belong in other houses. Felt like her plase was there.
She still was scared when sat down and had sorting hat on her.

"In theory, anyone who gets sorted anywhere doesn't belong in the other houses....but you are right...Hufflepuff"

There was something calming about being in Hogwarts castle after all those years of waiting. Granted, she'd taken her sweet time to decide if she actually wanted to attend an out of region school or not, but she'd been pretty convinced of it when she would hear stories from some of her cousins. She didn't know much about it, just that it was a big stone castle situated in the middle of nowhere with trees and water galore. Some of the pictures she'd seen that he cousin had taken only made it seem so much more magical to Cami. She didn't see her cousin in the crowd, but it was likely he was not looking for her, she wasn't entirely sure if they would know how old she was since she really only saw them during family things, but she knew one was in Gryffindor and the other was a Hufflepuff, though she'd forgotten which was which by now. She wondered if she would share a house with either of them. She frowned when she heard someone with her last name called, but didn't recognise the girl at all. She wasn't one of Cami's cousins...

'Zephyr, Cami,"

The shock of hearing another Zephyr called soon wore off, and Cami walked up to slip the hat over her head and see where she would be placed. She was going to need to investigate this a little bit more later. Maybe her cousins knew?

"Your investigation can come later..for now just enjoy the beginning of your school adventure, best suited in.....Gryffindor,"

Millicent's gasp of surprise was one in a large chorus as the doors to the great hall swung open. She craned her head in wonder at the ceiling, which seemed to go on for ever and was lit with clusters of bright white stars. Suspended just below that, seemingly unsupported, were dozens - maybe hundreds - of flickering candles. Millicent had a brief worry that the hot wax was going to drip on their heads before she remembered this was a magical castle. They would probably be OK. Still, it took checking the floor for drips and finding none before she could completely relax.

The children came to a stop in front of the headmistress's podium. The headmistress herself, an austere looking woman who reminded Millicent of her grandmother, gave a welcome speech before introducing the four Hogwarts houses. Millicent had given long, hard thought to which house she might like to be in, but truthfully, she didn't feel as if she was a good fit for any of them. She was kind, no doubt, but hard work wasn't her idea of a good time. She wasn't scholarly, or overly ambitious, or remarkably brave. She was just... Millicent. A lump formed in her throat. What if the hat couldn't decide where to put her? What if it didn't assign her to any house at all and simply left her unsorted for the next seven years? She glanced at Hortensia, smiling to hide her nerves. Perhaps if she pretended to be brave, the hat would put her in Gryffindor. Well, it was better than no house at all.

Finally Millicent heard her name. She stepped through the parting crowd, lifting her chin a little higher. Hundreds of faces were turned to her as she sat down, but she wasn't looking at them; she had relaxed her eyes, so that all she could see were blurry shapes, the odd splash of a coloured tablecloth, and the halos of light from the candles above. The following few seconds were the longest of her life, until the hat spoke...

"There is more to gryffindor than just bravery, which I'm sure you'll find out while amongst them..Gryffindor,"

Castle was gorgeous, bit Niklaus didn't really see that. Sorting ceremony was going on. He was surprised, he was excited, he was terriefied andd he was all other emotions that exists.
– Easterling...–
Nick was ready to go, but it wasn't his time yet. Annabeth was first of Easterlings that was called to be sorted. Nick couldn't wait for his turn. Next one was other of his cousins, but he didn't listen where girls were sorted.
– Easterling, Niklaus Eliot,– Finally!

All his body was aching when boy was waiting for hat to decide his House.
– Are everyone so stressed? Is it okay? Is it normal that I dodn't know where I want to be?

"It's very normal, lots of kids have no idea! Certainly for you this is tricky, but there's a creativity and an intelligence that shouldn't be ignored....Ravenclaw"

Land was depressed, okay, people would tell him he was overreacting and it was just a dog, but Nova was so much more than that! Nova was Land's absolute best friend and hearing that his parents had snuck her off the train at the last minute had upset him greatly. On one hand he was glad that she hadn't been accidentally left behind on the platform to be picked up by some creep or dognapper or something like that, he was convinced they wouldn't care for her properly. Nova was a princess, his princess and she would need to be treated in the way she was accustomed. She had an entire end of his bed and sometimes he would have to sleep curled in a ball because she would stretch out and he was a bit of a kicker sometimes and didn't want to kick her accidentally in his sleep. He was not a graceful sleeper at all. Poor Nova accidentally fell off of his bed once when he'd failed to restrain his legs by sleeping in a ball and she'd rolled right off as he'd moved around. She'd been pretty sore at him for a whole week after that and he'd never wanted to experience that ever again. But now he ws doing something even worse, he was leaving her behind with people she didn't love as much as she loved him and they wouldn't give Nova the attention and affection she obviously deserved as a Princess of the Zephyr house. It just wasn't fair that he wasn't allowed to bring her. He could have brought a cat, but he didn't like cats and so all he had was a tiny photo of him and Nova when he'd first adopted her and she'd kept licking his face. He just could not agree that any school that would force this separation was a good school, so he already had a bit of an opinion.

Acre went first, and he watched her get sorted before another name was called, only he didn't recognise it. Another Zephyr? Surely they couldn't be related because he'd been to every family event since he was a baby and he'd never heard of anyone called Cami. Either she was an imposter or she was an imposter. He didn't like the sound of that at all. She was soon sorted and he watched her walk away, committing her face to memory so he could find her in a crowd later to learn all about what this nonsense meant. Acre would help he was sure. Soon his own name was called, one of the last no doubt and he tripped over his own feet a little in his excitement to get up there, laughing to himself. He didn't care if he tripped in front of people, it happened. He waited to hear his house. He was so excited and yet sad at the same time, because whenever he'd imagined the moment, he'd always had Nova right by his side. This whole year was gonna suck big time.

"Hmmm....you might feel sad now, but if you follow that excitable spirit you'll certainly have fun, and this will certainly be done best in....Gryffindor,"

Jayden walked through the Entrance Hall and into the Great Hall, following close to his sisters as he did so. He was quite scared, truth be told, but intrigued at the same time. Everything was new here to him, and there was magic everywhere! Not that Jayden wasn't used to magic, but he definitely wasn't used to their being magic in everything that surrounded him. Hogwarts was so cool! He thought to himself with a smile, still shuffling to the front of the hall. He watched in excitement as people began being sorted, whispering guesses to his siblings whenever someone went up to be sorted. When it was his turn, he walked up to the stool nervously, aware that all eyes were on him.. tripping slightly as he approached the hat before quickly sitting down and pulling the hat over his head.

"Hmmm.....tricky...you would certainly find hufflepuff comfortable, but I think you'd do better in Ravenclaw,"

Hortensia had had her bags packed for weeks, and it was finally time for her and her sister to come to Hogwarts. If she had it her way, she would never leave. Her, living in an actual real life princess castle surrounded by everything she could ever possibly need or want with her sister by her side was a dream come true. Maybe if she asked really nicely, the professors would let her live there forever. Hortensia had barely kept still on the journey there, oooing and aaaahing at everything they were seeing, even the robes were beautiful long and swishy, and as Hortensia waited for her turn to be sorted she had the ends of the robes in each hand, swaying and dancing on the spot as she watched the other students. Hortensia was one of the first students, which was even more exciting because it was like she was some sort of role model, and she would certainly show the others how it was done. She grinned with nervous anticipation at her sister, before moving past them and taking a seat, making sure to sit up straight just like she was taught. If she was going to be living in a real life magical castle, then she had to look like a real life magical castle..person. In the crowd she caught sight of the boy with the dog, and gave him a little wave too from the front as she waited to hear where she would be placed. She didn’t care where, they were all going to be beautiful, she knew it.

"Hmmm...interesting..some adventurous spirit, yes you'd do well in Gryffindor but there's more hmmm.....Slytherin,"

Peyton Orel walked into the Great Hall, side by side with her twin. She looked around to see the houses, before she frowned. Rayleigh informed them that they were sorted by traits. Peyton wondered where she would be, and looked around to see all of the robes. It was so weird. This whole place is so weird. She wanted to go home. Her moms were supportive. But, the only way that they all could be magical would be if their sperm donor dad had magical abilities in his ancestors. Why else would magical just develop? Peyton waited as the names were called out, some being rather medieval. The talking hat singing and talking did make her a little anxious. This was a new world, and Peyton did not know how to handle it. Soon enough, her name was called, "Peyton Orel!" Peyton walked up to the podium sat down and looked around to her twin that was already sorted. Would they be together, or separate? It was hard to believe where she would be at.

"I'm sorry child, you won't be with your twin, but you will be just fine and thrive even in.......Hufflepuff,"

Marlow was ready to get this over with. She was not feeling the sorting right now. The train ride here had been fun, all things considered, but she was unable to finish the drawing she had been working on. Instead she was forced off the train and dragged to this sorting ceremony. Couldn't we just do this later. When I feel like it She thought as she followed the other first years into the great hall. Although her mood was not the best right now, the sight of the Great Hall changed that slightly. The Great Hall looked like a perfect night sky, one Marlow would love to paint with watercolors. Oh how she wished she had her sketchbook or even just a pen to jot down the image on her hand for a later date. Sadly, Marlow no longer held her backpack with her art supplies. It made her feel naked. It was something she always had at hand for when inspiration hit. And inspiration was indeed hitting now as she saw the wonderful sights around her. Hopefully this goes by fast and I can get my stuff soon. Marlow thought as she continued to be herded in with all the first years.

A Professor greeted the students and introduced an odd looking hat. That should be updated She thought wondering why anyone would wear such an old and obviously cheaply made hat. Guess the school is low on funds She thought knowing her father would donate if Marlow asked. Her father liked to throw his money around, not an issue for Marlow would always seemed to make out well when this happened. The young girl continued to look at the hat when it broke out in song. Her mouth opened slightly in surprise. So it has some worth she thought now understanding the hat's purpose, still thinking it could be improved.

Some of the students were being called up to the hat and placed into a house. Marlow noticed some of the people she sat with on the train and briefly wondered if they would be sorted into the houses they wanted. If not, Marlow could not see what could be done about it. The Sorting Hat was law. Finally Marlow heard her name be called from the front of the Great Hall.

"Sanderson, Marlow."

Marlow tucked a piece of hair behind her ear as she walked up to the front, pushing through the crowd that was left. How are there so many kids She thought rolling her eyes. Maybe homeschooling was not so bad afterall. At least there she was the center of attention, there she was first.

Marlow sat on the stool, looking out into the crowd. This graduating class size is huge. I'll make it work She thought to herself as the hat was place onto her head. Marlow honestly was not sure where she would be placed. Her mother was a Ravenclaw and her Father was a Slytherin. Honestly any of the houses seemed like a good fit, but Marlow did secretly hope she could prove to her father that she was just as determined in life as he was, just in a different way.

Closing her eyes. Marlow thought It's time.

"It is indeed time...and looking here, while you are exceedingly creative, there's a very sly spirit too, one that inches to prove itself...better be...Slytherin"

So there she was at Hogwarts. Zoey could not wait to get home, where the court wanted to be. Her choice had fallen on the Slytherin house. Just as the sorting hat will decide it will be, however in the depths of her heart she wanted to be Slytherin. Then her name sounded.

'' Zoey West''

Without waiting for a long time, Zoey went straight up and sat down, waiting for a decision, but still decided to say where he wanted to be from the court. '' Slytherin, Slytherin .. '' its multiple times. Will the sorting hat listen to her decision?

"You certainly do want Slytherin...hmm and you certainly have the ambition for it...Slytherin,"

Inanna Zhefarovich walked into the Great Hall for the first time. Her parents, well, her father, had children that attended here before. Technically, her niece was already a fifth year. Well, half niece. She had the Katsaros blood, which beat the Grimrar blood every day. Inanna crossed her arms as she waited for her name to be called. She was probably going to be last or close to last anyway. Ina frowned as the hat tossed the first years left and right, to the houses that they belonged. Her immediate relatives were in Slytherin and Ravenclaw mostly, so there was a toss up to which one she would belong in. Ina might have some Gryffindor or Hufflepuff traits, but she did not care either way. As the crowd finally became tiny, her name was finally called. She sighed in relief as she walked up to the stool and sat down. She flinched slightly as the hat touched her blonde hair. She frowned as she waited for her fate.

"Nothing to worry about, just dear old me...but I'll be nice and quick...Ravenclaw,"

Torrin was a complete nervous wreck. His hands were sweating slightly and he felt like his heart would pop out of his chest at any moment. He wished his dog, Dino, was here. Dino always knew how to calm Torrin down when he got all worked up. This is not right. What if I don't belong? What if it was a mistake? What if What if Torrin thought putting his hand to his forehead in an attempt to stop the thoughts from racing through his head. It was enough to give the young boy a headache.

Just Breathe Torrin thought as he followed the rest of the first years into the Great Hall. Inhale, Exhale, Inhale, Exhale. He thought as he continued to follow the crowd. His father would be proud of him for practicing his breathing. It was one of the psychological coping techniques his father had taught him. He was always "bringing his work" home with him in a way. Inhale, Exhale He thought taking his deep breaths.

However, his breathe was taken away when he entered the Great Hall. It was beautiful! The stars made him feel at ease as the young boy continued to move up with crowd. I wonder how they do that He thought not quiet knowing the physics behind the magical ceiling.

Torrin was brought out of his own little world when he heard a Professor start talking. Looking forward through the crowd, Torrin listened to her speech holding on to every word, over-analyzing every word as well. His heart dropped with every word. I really don't belong he thought as he looked around. Everyone, in Torrin's opinion, looked like a lot less stressed than Torrin felt. How was that even possible.

Out of the blue, a hat began to sing. Torrin jumped noticeably with the hats first verse. What... He thought a bit confused as to what was going on. There was a singing hat! Amused and amazed, Torrin listened to the hat's song, clapping quietly when the hat finished. Almost immediately, student names were starting to be called. Torrin was glad this would be over soon. He really hated being the center attention.

"Langton, Torrin"

Oh god oh god oh god oh god Torrin thought as he felt like everyone's eyes were on him. He hated this. He hated everyone looking at him. Torrin quickly sat on the stool and close his eyes. Oh god oh god He thought unable to open his eyes and see everyone staring at him. I just want to disappear He thought as he waited for the hat to make it's decision.

"No one will disappear! Just ignore all of them, this is about you...and you...undoubtedly, Hufflepuff,"

Collineus Cardosi II could hardly believe that he was going to school in another country, with his parents coming to New Zealand for a couple of years. The reason? Someone named Kiasora. Or rather, Kia Sorens. He was told to scout her out to see if she was adoptable material. His father had taken in a lot of kids that were pureblood that were family members, while throwing out his daughter, Kristen, because she was part-veela. This would be the first time that his father would go out of his way to adopt outside of the family. Collineus looked over the tables to see if he could see her, since he was told that she would likely be sitting next to Kalif Styx the Second. Before he could even spot them, his name was called to the front. Collineus walked up to the stool and sat down with the hat perched on his head. He waited patiently to see where he belonged. Truth be told, he would succeed in any house, that much he was confident with. All four had such promising qualities that he needed.

"You have a lot of promise and certainly a lot of drive...you'd likely manage just fine in any house, but you'll find what you need most in, Slytherin,"

Toshiro Arai walked into the Great Hall and just wowed at the vision. Everything looked magical, which he expected, but this surpassed his expectations. There was nothing this colorful or magical in his short stories. He would have to expand his mind a bit over this. Toshiro looked at the students, but did not go well since his name was soon called. Right, his last name started with an A so he would be among the first to be sorted. He walked up to the stool, and sat down. He placed his hands on his lap, and felt the hat on his head. He smiled warmly, and waited for his house to be called. This was new for him since neither of his parents went to any Hogwarts!

"This might all feel very new now but that won't last long, and certainly not in Hufflepuff,"

Mackenzie wasn't all too sure how she felt about getting put on a train and having to practically live at a school for seven years. It couldn't be much worse than being at home, because at least at the school she wouldn't be on her own. Then again, she could already tell there were going to be people who would get on her nervous. That wouldn't happen at home. And if it did, it would just be the staff and they were pretty much told to do everything they could to keep her happy. Great parenting by her dad, that's for sure.

The youngster kept to herself the entirety of the train ride, having no choice but to gather with the other first years when they reached the castle. She could see kids getting excited as they entered the castle and it was a vast difference between their faces and her. Mostly because her face wasn't showing any emotion. She didn't know whether to be happy to be away or to dread everything that was about to come. Nevertheless she knew she wasn't going to led anything get to her. She was going to do well and she was going to succeed, if only just to show her dad what she was capable of on her own. Mackenzie calmly stepped forward when her name was called, taking place on the stool and tried not to cringe as the musty hat was placed on her head. She wasn't especially looking forward to any of the houses so they might as well get this over with.

"Musty?! I'll have you know I'm prefectly clean but since you feel that way, I'll make it quick, Ravenclaw,"

If someone would have asked her if she looked forward to Hogwarts New Zealand in June, Grace would have been excited for it. Now? Grace was miserable. She hated life. She hated muggles. She hated the muggle world. Magic would have prevented the tragedy. Grace stopped walking in the Great Hall when the other first years did. She kept her head bowed. She just listened for her name to be called. She wanted to get this over with. She did not care what house she belonged in. She would have said Slytherin earlier, but now, she wouldn't mind being with Rowan too. She wanted Gryffindor or Slytherin. Her mind was made up. She walked up to the stool once her name was called, and sat down. The sorting hat was placed upon her head, and she waited for her fate.

"Hmmm..oh....I see....well okay then....Gryffindor"

Lucifer Styx made it to Hogwarts New Zealand, which was curious enough. He was the only one of his siblings here at the moment, since Viktor graduated a while back. His baby brother would be born in a couple of months, so they were really spaced out. Lucifer looked around the room to see who all was here. There was a lot of Styx members in here, and Zhefarovich, but he was the only son of the first Hades. Lucifer blinked his dark eyes a couple of times, as he heard the hat sing the song. He then waited for his turn to go up and get sorted. He didn't care what house he was in. He came from a ton of houses and schools. Lucifer placed his arms across his chest, and soon enough, his name was called. Lucifer walked up to the stool and sat down, his arms still crossed. He waited patiently to get this over with.

"A Styx....?! Well....unsurprisingly, this is rather easy.....Slytherin,"

Delilah wasn't expecting to be caught off guard when she entered the Great Hall but there she was in the grandest room she had ever seen with her breath coming in short shallow gasps. She closed her eyes for a moment and took a deep breath counted to five before letting it go. She could do this and everything would be fine, she told herself and took another measured breath. She scanned the crowd to find any familiar faces and was relived when she spotted Ivy and Brooke, and gave them both a small wave. She wasn't sure if they were friends but they were familiar faces nonetheless. Eventually saw Simon at the Slytherin table talking to someone and he looked away the moment they made eye contact. Delilah frowned. Secretly she desperately wanted to be in Slytherin with he brother. She knew he would blatantly ignore her but it would be some small comfort to have something familiar in what was a decidedly unfamiliar place. After the headmistress gave her speech she just had to wait until her name was called which was an unfortunately long time considering where her last name fell in alphabetical order. She chewed on the cuticle of her thumb until she was shaken out of her nervous haze with a jolt as her name was called.

"Thorne, Delilah" the hat announced. She glanced around to see the reactions of the others around her and she started the long walk to the front of the hall. Her breathing was getting shallow again and she could swear her legs were shaking by the time she sat down on the stool. Delilah took a breath to steady herself and tried to sit perfectly still as the hat was placed on her head. She didn't dare say a word, she wanted this over quickly as she closed her eyes and awaited her fate.

"This will be over quickly....though this is a tricky choice, hufflepuff would certainly appreciate you, but that intelligence....yes....Ravenclaw,"

Brooke had been waiting for today for months, possibly even years. Ever since Sydney had been able to leave home and go off to Hogwarts. She'd done nothing but complain about it since, but Brooke was sure when it was her turn, she'd not waste of a second of it. Scanning the great hall, she smiled when she spotted her sister at the Slytherin table, not disheartened by how pointedly Sydney was ignoring her. She didn't expect Sydney to warm to her any time soon, though she couldn't help the childish hope that maybe them being in school together would help their relationship.

It was a bit of wait for her name to be called, and Brooke made a point to keep herself composed as she waited, smiling blandly at her future classmates as they nervously shuffled down the list of names. She smiled when she saw Ivy placed into Gryffindor. She doubted that would be an ideal place to get much studying done. It was important she keep herself together, the whole school was making their first impressions today. Finally though, Brooke was able to step up to the stool, turning to face the entire school and taking a deep breath before the hat was placed on her head.

"While that brain of yours certainly shows how intelligent you are, theres some extra sly ambition which mean you will certainly excel best in......Slytherin"

Emmaline was ready for this moment. The whole train ride here she did not have to think about her sister River. She did not have to be worried whether River ate lunch or did her homework. She did not have to worry about keeping the house clean for when Mum came home after a double shift. To be honest, Emmaline had nothing to worry about and it was amazing. This must be what it is like She thought as she casually walked into the Great Hall. This must be what its like to be a normal kid without a care in the world.

This was obviously a mixed thought due to the time. Looking around the Great Hall, Emmaline saw that many students did seem worried. I wonder why She thought looking around, observing. Emmaline knew that the sorting ceremony was a big deal. It did decide which house you had to be in for your entire length of school, a time frame the eleven year old did not quite realize. But you can't change it so why worry about it She thought realizing personally she had never given much thought to which house she would be in. She was just happy to be here in the first place.

Emmaline was glancing around the Great Hall when she noticed the beautiful sky! It looked just like all the nights when she sneak outside after putting River to bed to watch the stars. Even if Emmaline had been worried before, her favourite sight in the world would have changed that.

Gazing upwards, she listened to a professor give the introductions and "game plan." It seemed easy enough to Emmaline. Wait for your name, put on a hat, and get a new house. Easy She thought continuing to find her happy place in the stars while she waited for her name to be called. It wasn't long before she heard it, loud and clear.

"Hopkins-Vance, Emmaline."

Emmaline hated that her name was different with the hyphenation. Adjusting her outfit to perfect condition and running her fingers through her hair to make sure every strand was in the correct order, she walked towards the Sorting Hat. The hat was placed on her head. Emmaline's smile faltered for a second. Instantly the voice of her mother played in her head as she sat there on the stool, If you don't look perfect, how can everything be perfect Her mother's voice invaded her thoughts. Instantly Emmaline put a smile on her face, adjusting her outfit one more time. Step one hear name. Step two try on hat. Step three get a new house. Easy She thought as she waited for the hat's decision.

"Well, step three is the easiest of the steps...Gryffindor,"

Aisling‘s heart was fluttering. She was finally here, ready for whatever the next seven years threw at her. She smiled softly, wondering which house she was going to be in. Of course, she didn’t mind, she would work just as hard no matter where she was. She would make her mother proud. They’d spent ages sitting around the kitchen table, surrounded by boxes, her mother teaching her everything about Hogwarts and what she was to do when she got there. Aisling had dreamed about the castle, the grounds and even about the possibility that she would make some friends.

“Sullivan, Aisling”

Taking a deep breath, she slowly walked up the steps and sat down carefully on the chair. “Well,” she thought, “hello. I’m Aisling.” She stopped and took a deep breath. “I don’t mind where I‘m put. I’ll work just as hard. But...” she paused, ”I think Ravenclaw might be right for me. Or Slytherin. But you know best, so whatever house you pick, it’ll be the right one.”

"Hello Aisling, I'm the sorting hat...you are not wrong, slytherin and ravenclaw are good options for you, and I do know best and the best for you is....Ravenclaw"
