Third Years, Lesson One

"Good morning, everyone," Gabrielle greeted, watching as the students took their seats. "Welcome to third year History of Magic. For those of you who do not know me, like if you've transferred in or have amnesia or a terrible case of face blindness, I'm Professor Gabrielle Moncrieffe. I am sure you know by now how you are expected to behave in a classroom. We'll all treat each other with respect and we'll all get along just fine." At least she didn't really have to go through the rules at this point. "I don't mind whether you want to use quills or pens, whichever you are most comfortable using. I just need to be able to read your writing, so choose wisely."

"This year we will have more essays, of course, but we will have some field trips."
She smiled at the students, hoping that would perk everyone up. "I hope you all have some muggle clothes on hand for travel. Let me know if you don't and we'll sort something out. I'll let you know well in advance before we travel so you can be prepared," she added, hoping to be encouraging. While Gabrielle enjoyed books and studying history in the comfort of her room or the library, there was something special about going to historical locations, actually seeing the remnants of ancient civilizations and societies. Hopefully the students would enjoy them, too. "Educational field trips, in part at least so we can get away with it, but it'll be a nice change of scenery."

"I won't keep you too long today, as I'm sure you already have plenty of work to get to. Or plenty of gossip about your break and who danced with who at the Yule Ball to get to. I'm not judging."
She'd give them enough to do in time, but with how busy third year was she certainly didn't want to overload them. "Just a reminder that if you're struggling, be it with history, with any subject, or with anything else, my door is open - within reason - and I am more than happy to listen and try and offer a helping hand where I can. And if you want to engage in further history study, I am even happier to help you out there, too." People often had interesting niche interests in history that they wouldn't cover in the classes, and Gabrielle was keen to cultivate those interests if students were looking for a means to do so. "That's all. Have a good week! And make sure you come ready to write next lesson." With a slight smirk, Gabrielle waved off her students, straightening herself back up and tidying her desk as the students filed out.

Homework
RP the lesson. That's all!

Prim wasn’t sure she was excited for classes to return, because it meant that her holiday was at an end, but she also didn’t hate school, so it was a bit of a balanced response she thought. It helped that she admired Professor Moncrieffe because she thought she was a strict, but fair person. And she appreciated it when she knew what to expect upfront. Thankfully, she would probably be good for that up to next year, and then in her OWLS she would have to get used to a whole new set of people and he really didn’t know what to think about that if she was honest. She sighed a little at the mention of field trips though, because she’d never really been into them too much. She liked being able to just do her own thing in class. She appreciated the reminder that the professor was there if they needed anything, but she was honestly more likely to talk to her Uncle than anything, or though it might have been nice to have someone to talk to who had a mostly neutral impression of her. Since Ben knew her better than most people at the school. The class wrapped up then and she quickly headed out to find something to do. First week lessons were the worst.

Eli could admit that things were not simply going his way as he might have liked. Training to be an animagus was a lot harder than he’d thought, after all, and so he wondered how things would go. He’d been doing all kinds of reading over the break trying to wrap his head around it, but he had no one he could talk to about it. He didn’t want to tell anyone he was doing it because what if he failed? He didn’t have anything else to fall back on in that instance. History class though was simple, and easy to focus on. It was names and dates and feelings, things he could understand easily from a book. There wasn’t a lot of practical applications for theory work, and history was one of his better subjects. He didn’t like the first week of classes though because they more often than not didn’t really do anything that required them to learn anything. SO he didn’t even open his note book because there was nothing for him to take a note of. When the class ended then, he yawned a bit, tired from everything already, and thought he should seek out Professor Potter and let her know he was ready to begin again this semester.
