The Sorting Ceremony: Y35

Wade had been waiting on this moment forever. His parents wished him luck, but he knew that he would see his dad, watching him be sorted. This was an incredible moment for the youngster. Wade placed his hands together as they entered the Great Hall. He looked around to see how gorgeous it was, admiring the view. He could spend some time doing that since his last name was way, way down on the list of people to sort. He wished that he and his dad had his mom’s maiden name, Chamberlin. Wade heard a name he knew was familiar. Beau! His first cousin. He watched Beau as he was sorted, and waited. And waited. And waited. Wade shifted in his shoes as his name finally came. He trotted over to the stool and sat down. He didn’t care where he went, but a part of him wanted to be close by Beau. So he can look after him.

"Unfortunately, you will not be too close to your friend. Fortunately, you'll be just fine in Gryffindor,"

Milena was in complete awe at how the last few months had gone. Witch...Hogwarts...Magic? What does this all mean? She remembered back to when she first got that square envelope on the really thick parchment paper. Her parents seemed surprised, though her mother less so than her father. If only they could see all of this now!

Getting out of her head and bringing herself back to the present, Milena looked around at all the students around her, all dressed in black. Some looked scared and confused, while others seemed confident in and sure of themselves, though she was sure this was a new experience for them all. The Headmistress spoke, and Milena thought she looked nothing like the witches she had read about in Roald Dahl's book. How much of that was true? She was sure to find out soon enough.

She wasn't scared, but she was excited. Her stomach knotted up as her name was called out, "Hakobyan, Milena." She stepped forward, her legs unsteady below her. Her feet managed to carry her over to the stool, and when she sat down she realized the gravity of the situation she was in. She was not usually uncomfortable in a large group setting, but felt nervous being the centre of attention in what seemed like such an important ceremony that she didn't even fully understand. That soon changed, as the hat lay on her head, covering her eyes slightly, taking the crowd away from her sight.

"Don't worry, this will be over quickly and you'll be in comfortably surrounded by like minded people.....Hufflepuff,"

Majora wasn't sure what to make of the trip into Hogwarts, but he supposed the school needed its security, and it wasn't exactly easy to get there. He was forced to mingle with a number of people his own age, as they waited in their oversized cloaks ready to be sorted. The boy's own trousers were much too long for an eleven year old's legs, and as such he had already managed to scuff the backs of them with his shoes from where he'd walked up to the castle from the train. As the first years stood outside of the Great Hall, Majora was taking in the view with wide eyes. It was both surreal, and somewhat impratical. For starters. it was really quite cold, and in a building this size, they really should have had a few more heaters. For some reason, that Majora was keen to understand, they didn't seem to have many things that he could say with all honesty, he knew what they were. All around him were illusions that it became hard to see what he could trust and what was real. It made no sense; it was like the school was trying to show off that it could fake. He spotted Blythe in the crowds, and tried to shoot her a smile but she never looked in his direction. Instead, Majora focused on the task ahead, and once the doors opened, he followed the others through the Hall, towards a small stool that was sat at the front. With each persons name, the crowd drew quiet to hear what house that person would be placed in. All seemed a little bit odd to the muggeborn, who wondered why students couldn't just pick their own group of friends they wanted to learn with. This was meant to be a school, not a prison. He saw the girl from the train run off towards Gryffindor; the jokey house that he thought he would have taken well to, although now that Blythe was there, he had second thoughts. His name was called eventually, when there weren't that many students left, and the blonde walked up the to seat, taking his position as he waited to hear where he would be placed. "A hat, a hat that thinks it knows me better than I do? You make no sense.." he was thinking, his normally logical mind stretched. It was going to be a long year.

"I don't know you better than you know yourself, no, but I do know the houses better than you, and I know where you will succeed the most..Slytherin,"

Samantha was having a difficult time stopping her mouth from dropping open. The school looked amazing, which she had expected from talking to Daniel, but it was a whole other level. Sam wasn't bothered by the fact she was surrounded by other first year students, in a huge hall with the rest of the school. She felt hidden, safe. She looked around for Daniel in the crowd of students, but couldn't see him. As she turned back to the front, her name was called."Remdond, Samantha." She felt the nerves hit her stomach and she flinched. This was the part she wasn't looking forward to. She made her way to the stool, and sat down. Taking a deep breath the calm herself, she focused on the doors on the other side of the hall.

"Don't worry this part is over quickly, I just have a quick look, see a nice adventurous spirit and say, Gryffindor,"

The overwhelming emotion of the people around him seemed to be nerves but Thorgan wasn't feeling any. He knew some people he had met so far were really into which house they got sorted into, worried they wouldn't get the one they wanted or even more worried they'd get the one they really didn't. Thorgan was relaxed on the issue, there were no family expectations for him to end up anywhere. His siblings either had been or were in a different house to each other and both his parents had been in different houses. Most importantly of all Thorgan had no preconceived idea of where he 'should' be. The hat would decide and he would go with whatever. The crowd of first years were abuzz with nerves and excitement as they waited outside to enter the great hall and start the next great chapter of their lives. Finally a professor came to the door and escorted them inside.

Thorgan settled in for a bit of a wait as students began to make their way up to the hat to get sorted, he knew he would be toward the bottom of the list. Finally, the Rs came to an end and a few S names were called before "Snyder, Thorgan," rang out. Thorgan made his way to the stool and took a seat. Some students had made snarky or attempted witty comments to the hat, some had pleaded, some had even made small talk with it. Thorgan did none of those things, he didn't need to after all. The hat could see in his head, what he wanted, what he wanted to be. It could probably see things in him he didn't know about yet. Thorgan sat, somewhat restlessly as he waited for the verdict.

"I can see exactly what you want, but what you want could take you down a few different routes...hmmm..better be..Gryffindor,"

Eagerness to learn something, or dreading being away from her family, Amarantha could not shake the feeling she couldn’t distinguish in her gut. The upside to all of this would be that she had her only brother, twin, with her, in her year. She held his hand tightly since she did not want to be separated from him at the moment. Mari had a codependency issue with her twin, likely due to her mom passing away when they were born. Their father worked every chance he got, so the only stable person in her life was her brother. Mari glanced at him as the first years were sorted, one by one. She knew that she would be going first. Her line of family members were all mixed, so there was no telling where she would go. Soon enough, she heard her name. She reluctantly let go of her brother’s hand and walked up to the stool. She sat down and closed her eyes as tight as she could. She wanted to be with her brother, but since she was first, she couldn’t ask for his house. Not when he was after her.

"You are first and while that might seem like a bad thing, it might be good too....and certainly, where you're heading will help you on the way....Hufflepuff,"

Coming to Hogwarts New Zealand came as no surprise considering what family he descended from. His sister held on to his hand tightly, which he allowed since she relied on him for everything. From decisions to usual activities of what kids were supposed to do. Kalif stared ahead, feeling Mari’s shaking hand in his. She was nervous. Yet, there was no reason to be. Their grandfather taught here, and there were other family members that they could rely on if needed. While Mari was codependent on him, Kalif was more independent. He did not mind Mari hanging on him, following him, but Kalif would do no such thing. He stared as the other students were sorted. Before too long, it was Mari’s turn. Kalif watched as she was sorted, before it was his turn. He walked up and sat down on the stool, while folding his arms across his chest. He wasn’t impatient, but he didn’t see what the big deal was about sorting.

"This is no big deal really and this is certainly no surprise....Slytherin,"

Riku Mckenna entered the great hall with a smile on his mischievous face. Oh, he could not wait to be sorted and see who his knew victims, er, peers were. There was more than just ranking people though. He wanted to learn some magic, to use for pranking. He heard that was in the transfiguration area. Riku waited patiently, shifting from one foot to another, until his name was called. Riku walked up to the stool, taking his seat, and trying to feign an innocent look. He didn’t want to be suspicious already.

"The more suspicious you try to not look, the more suspicious you seem.......Slytherin,"

It was taking all of Malachi's self-restraint not to hold Emmy's hand. She was the only thing in the room that didn't seem to be moving at a hundred miles per hour. Only a minute ago he'd been getting onto the train, and then they had arrived, and now he was about to be sorted into his new school house - the house everybody would define him by for the next seven years whether he liked it or not. He wondered whether Lois had moved into his bedroom yet. She'd threatened to, just before he'd left, and it wouldn't have surprised him if his mum had actually agreed to it. For all he'd longed for this day to come, at that moment he would have traded it all to see his bedroom again.

He gave Emmy an encouraging nudge as her name was called. His worst fears came true when the hat called out Gryffindor. That was that, then. They were going to be separated. There was nothing Gryffindor about Malachi, as far as he could tell. The crowd of unsorted students grew thinner and thinner until at last Malachi's name was called. He stepped up slowly, swallowing. Maybe the hat would take pity on him and put him with Emmy. Then again, he would never be able to live up to the expectations of her house. Ravenclaw? He'd never been as clever as Lois. Well, it was too late to guess now; his fate was upon him.

"Hmmm....this is tricky....if not for your lack of ambition, you'd make a fair slytherin....you'd likely manage in any of the houses, even Gryffindor despite what you think...but the best fit for you....Hufflepuff,"

Teddy rubbed at the dried paint he'd already managed to get on his hands during the train ride. Attempting to capture an image of the countryside had been a welcome distraction, but now he had nothing to push away his nerves as he entered the Great Hall with the other new students. He looked up at the ceiling in awe, wondering how the magical night sky had been made possible. It was so much more beautiful than the little glowing stars his ma enchanted to float around his bedroom, and he loved the castle immediately. He closed his hand around the silver Slytherin charm hidden in his pocket for luck. His ma had given it to him as a parting gift, and a reminder that she was counting on him to make their family proud. Teddy didn't know what she would do if he was sorted into a different house, but he didn't want to know.

He waited for his name to be called with a growing sense of dread as each student before him was sorted. He was so lost in his head that he almost missed his name being called, stumbling on his way to the front. Teddy flinched as the hat slid over his head, afraid it was going to tell him that he wasn't really a wizard and it had all been a mistake. He didn't think he could deal with his ma's disappointment if he turned out to be a squib and had to leave Hogwarts before he had a chance to learn anything.

"I see there's a lot of pressure to be in slytherin...I could sort you there...but you'd manage far better in....Ravenclaw,"

Elizabeth was glad that the time had finally come to leave old Aunt Helen and actually be able to do what she wanted for once. As soon as Lily and her brother were free of their guardian, she’d been bouncing ball of energy that could wait to get up to the castle and actually see what was going on and what she would be learning. Would the children there be like her? She wasn’t too worried about bullies; both Lily and her brother knew they would look out for one another in that regard, so they were free to be themselves and cross that bridge when they came to it. With her red hair tied up in pigtails, and dressed in sleeked fresh new robes that no doubt would soon get something splattered down them, she joined the others and waited to be taken into the hall. There were so many other children, and she wanted to learn all of their names. As the procession through the hall began, Lily kept up with Henry, making sure that he didn’t fall behind the group. She was slightly smaller than him, which was the reason he’d given her her nickname. Henry was sorted first; and she nudged him forward so that he could get to the hat. She didn’t know which house she would have preferred, but maybe if she stayed with her brother they could help each other more then. Lily waved as the boy made his way over to his table, and then it was her turn. “Where am I going?” She asked the hat, sitting up straight and looking ahead as she waited to find out her fate.

"You are going to....Ravenclaw,"

Leia was so eager to finally be at school, the young girl had watched her brother and her sister go off to school and start their own adventure and now she wanted one too. The blonde had been seeing pictures of the school since her brother had gone to it, heard stories about it and Leia wanted her own. Leia wasn’t too surprised about the school, though even her brother’s pictures were amazing, they were nothing compared to the place itself. Leia was so eager to get started, she was trying to spot who she could be friends with, which of the girls she might end up in the same dorm as, just trying to figure out her best house for the friends she could make. With a brother in Gryffindor and a sister in Hufflepuff, Leia was sure that she could fit in any of the houses, and really in her mind, regardless of where she ended up she had a goal and an objective in mind. She would make it work for her, she would make whatever house she ended up in work for her. She would have to. The girl looked towards the different tables as they made their way up the great hall, she easily spotted her brother and gave him a quick wave, and while it took her a beat longer to find Padme, she was able to find her too. Leia knew that it would be nice to end up with either of them, but in her mind, it would be even nicer to end up away from them. She knew the slight gap between herself Vader had meant she’d had a much smoother time in Primary school. Leia had spotted that boy from the other school within the crowd and was a little surprised by it.
Leia’s attention was taken away from how the hall looked to the professor at the front of the hall, the head mistress as she welcomed them to the school. She nodded along vaguely, no intention of going where she wasn’t supposed to unless she made friends with someone who wanted to and that was the best way to ensure friendship. She looked to the hat as the hat began to sing. She nodded along, trying to hear all of the points that she needed to know about the different houses. Things that she didn’t already know. But, from the stories from her sister and her brother she knew it well enough. Well enough that she had already had action plans for each of the houses. She would make friends, she would have a close group of friends if that was the only thing that she did at the school. She always had action plans. Ways of meeting people, of getting new friends. The girl focused and watched as others before her were sorted. She watched their expressions, the way they seemed to react to the hat’s words in their mind and then after a number of the names had been called, hers did too. She couldn’t help but wonder what her brother’s reaction had been to it, knowing how much he hated his name. But Leia’s name was much easier, and she even liked it, at least on its own. She stepped forward and sat down on the stool, looking out over the hall, spotting her brother, that friend of her brothers, she was able to spot Leia too before the hat was placed on her head. Alright Hat, i’m ready.

"Ready are you? hmmmm.....you could do very well in gryffindor or slytherin, truly, the choice between these two houses is difficult.....however, perhaps with that drive...yes...Slytherin,"

Lumio Skey was definitely pleased to be at school, his first glance at the place and he’d loudly told the person next to him that it was amazing. It was. He knew that people in his family had seen many an amazing place but there was nothing about this school that wasn’t amazing to him, well so far. And Lumio was absolutely going to tell every single person he spoke to about how amazing the place was. He hadn’t seen that much of it yet, but the impressive castle was more than enough to get him started on talking about how amazing it is. Lumio was happily vocal about his opinions no matter what they were about, him and his mother had gone head to head on a number of occasions, with screaming matches, or just the loud arguments. He had always been passionate about what he thought as had his mother. But he knew his mother would agree with his opinion of the school. He would write to her as soon as he got a moment to be able to start doing so. He knew she would want to hear all about how he was getting on, she’d been in a good mood when he’d left, they had just gotten back from Italy and that tended to keep his mother very happy for a little while. Lumio followed the other students into the great hall, and within the crowd spotted the girl he’d been on the train with. He gave her a little wave, they’d gotten a little separated when they’d gotten off the train. He knew that if they weren’t in the same house he’d have to make a point of going to find her. He also spotted the girl who lived close to him, Addy and the one he’d spotted at a coffee shop with the outrageous sugar drink. He waved at her too when he did his best to catch her eye.
Lumio wasn’t particularly looking where he was going, as he followed other students to the front and hadn’t been that aware that everyone else had stopped. Instead bumping into the person in front of him, and apologising to them quickly, while then asking if they were okay. He was quietened down from asking any follow up questions when the headmistress began the proceedings. He quickly lost interest in that and just let his gaze move around the room. Looking towards the different tables, spotting the mesh of unruly hair that was his brother. He knew that if he let his hair grow out much more that his would be as bad, but his old italian grandmother would’ve never let him do that. Lumio looked back at the front when a different voice spoke...well sang and he took the time to actually enjoy it. Most of his family, apart from his brother had gone to other magical schools, so this was a large novelty in his family. He knew that they couldn’t wait to hear all about it. He watched as others, the people he knew were sorted before him, the girl who lived near him, the girl he’d met on the train. He couldn’t help but now be curious about where he might end up. He didn’t think he’d be like his brother, he was happy to learn but he wasn’t always reading, he thought that his brother must’ve lied his way into that house. The others were probably good fits for him but he wasn’t too sure. It had never mattered to him where he ended up, he liked adventures, he liked staying indoors, he like playing guitar, he liked making friends, he was opinionated and stubborn. Eventually, his name was called, and Lumio walk up to the stool and took a seat.

"You'll have plenty time to make friends and have fun in Gryffindor,"

Allison was excited to be here. She and Addison had agreed at home that they would continue to live separate lives outside of school, making sure to stay on opposite ends of the train and of the crowd once they arrived. She was ready for the adventure that this place promised. She was almost sure her sister would just be off thinking up facts or something else just as boring. She bounced through the crowd, impatient, wincing as of course Addison was called first. She rolled her eyes. What did her sister get? Hufflepuff, perfect. Addison pushed her way to the front before her sister had even left the steps, wrinkling her nose at Addy. She bolted up the stairs almost as soon as the Professor spoke her name, twirling and sitting down quickly. Alright, she thought, anywhere but Hufflepuff.

"Anywhere but hufflepuff eh? Yeah, for you that's true....but where then to place you....oh, I know, Gryffindor,"

Arthur felt like his eyes were bulging out of his head as he looked around the Great Hall, enthralled and fascinated by absolutely everything. There was so much happening all around him, so much magic and beauty, he could hardly choose what to look at. A million questions swirled around his head: how did they make the ceiling like that? Were they going to learn about it? About how they made the candles float like that? Or how they prevented them from dripping wax onto the crowd below? The crowd was the part he was less enthused by; there were so many people, and he felt at once very small and very exposed in the knot of first years. Arthur stuck close to Finn and the boys he’d met on the train, grateful that he at least knew someone here. It had been a good idea on Aunt Lillian’s part. He looked for her at the staff table, and she smiled and gave him a little wave, but she seemed so far away. And the time he would have to come closer held its own mixture of excitement and dread. Where would he be sorted? Where would he spend the next seven years of his life? He hoped he’d be with at least one of his new friends, as the idea of going into a house entirely alone was daunting.

And then, at last, his name was called. Athur hadn’t told the other boys about his name, and he hoped they wouldn’t laugh at him, but he wasn’t going to look back now. His attention, from trying to focus on everything at once, was entirely consumed by the hat and the short walk to it. The hat was a curious thing too, he reflected as he perched gingerly on the stool. It must be able to read his mind, and that was some pretty impressive magic, but could it read his . . . future, as well? People must change over seven years, right? Or did that not matter for sorting? Everything went dark as the hat slid over his eyes, and he waited, breathless, for its decision.

"There will be lots of odd and interesting facts to discover and learn about throughout your seven years here, and they will come to you best in....Ravenclaw,"

Elysia Khalida Freecss hadn't really known what to expect when she got her Hogwarts letter but it definitely was not this grandiose setting that she had walked into. Imagine all the secrets this place has, her brain whispered helpfully, or unhelpfully. She hadn't decided yet. She knew that it would definitely be na experience though, attending this school. She was quite looking forward to her time here, in fact, it was all quite exciting and she had to pout a little at the thought that she still had to wait to be sorted. She knew about the houses, of course, but only vaguely. It had been her uncle and aunt, her dad's siblings, that had attended Hogwarts New Zealand while he attended Durmstrang. Elysia scrunched her nose at the thought of attending Durmstrang, HNZ just seemed more - a lot more - fun-friendly. As her thoughts rambled about, the young girl barely heard her name as it was called. When it did though, she flashed a grin and skipped her way towards the stool and the hat. "Hey!" she greeted the hat with a wave before she sat down and had the magical ... being? ... thing? ... hat? ... placed on her head. Well, now it would just be a matter of waiting she supposed. She rather hoped this wouldn't take long, she just wanted to know her house already!

"Hmmm...I'll try to not take too long, but this isn't too simple....hmmm...I know....Hufflepuff,"

Standing in the Great Hall, Kayce looked out amongst all the students. Long tables stretched the length of the hall, each table full of students. They were all sitting according to their house. Kayce had been told a little about how the sorting ceremony would work and what the houses meant. She felt herself more of a Gryffindor. The scarlet and gold table wasn’t too far from her. Standing quietly, she waited to go on.

Attending Hogwarts had been something on the back of Kayce’s mind since she found out she had magic. It was a shock to see her father for the first time since she was a baby and even more of a shock for him to explain what having magic meant. He explained that she was a witch and people that didn’t have magic were muggles. Kayce had assumed that meant her mother as well, and labeled her a muggle. Since moving to New Zealand, Kayce had uncovered more truths about her family tree. It turned out, her mother wasn’t a muggle, she was a squib. In a way, Kayce wanted to feel sorry for her mother. Instead, she was filled with rage from all the secrets she kept from her own daughter.

Students' names were being called and they approached the hat one by one. Kayce knew it would be her turn soon, as her last name was close to the beginning of the alphabet. She felt butterflies in her stomach as she waited to hear her name. Belonging to a house would make her feel different and more important.

The preparation for Hogwarts included Kayce’s father helping her purchase all her school supplies and she had spent a long time lingering outside of Eeylop’s owl emporium. After a lot of begging and promises to maintain the owl herself, her father purchased her an Elf Owl that she lovingly named Babs because she liked to make a lot of noise. Kayce arrived with new robes and new feather friend, ready to embark on her next journey.

“Davies-Dilys, Kayce”

Brushing her skirt down and pulling her shoulders back, Kayce confidently strode towards the stool. The hat wasn’t quite as she expected, brushing her fingers over it gently. Placing it on her head, she scrunched her face. It definitely clashed with her outfit. Let’s see what this old hat thinks of me. Sitting carefully on the stool, she waited for her answer.

"Old? Are you really calling me old? Well okay then...Slytherin,"

Otto stood with the rest of the first years, giving them all a look over. They all seemed so little and nervous. Why that was, he wasn't sure. He was certainly surprised about the whole magic thing being real, but he knew his family had distance roots of magic. The hall seemed like a great place to make friends, or show people how good he was. He wondered how the students felt about their studies, and how much they wanted to prove themselves. There was no point being here if you didn't want to prove yourself. He was so busy thinking he nearly missed his name being called."Basher, Otto." Thankfully, he was close to the start. It was a good way to make a great impression. He sat down and waited for the hat's decision.

"Don't worry there will be plenty of occasions for first impressions....Slytherin,"

Jackson Styles tried not to look impressed by the Great Hall. He had read about it before, and knew what to expect, but the experience of actually being there was quite breathtaking. Since no one he knew had described it to him, he had only had his imagination. He listened to the Headmistress's speech, wondering how many times a similar speech had been made in this hall. As the banners for the houses unfurled he watched with interest, trying to see if it had been done by magic, or if there was some hidden mechanism that had released them. The longer he stood with the other first years waiting for his name to be called, the more and more tense he felt. He thought of his aunt back home, wondering if she was thinking of him in this moment. He had just started playing with the brim of his hat when he heard his name called.

"Styles, Jackson!"

He was reminded that he should be doing his best to look cool, and calmly walked up to the stool and took a seat. The hat fell over his eyes, and he thought, 'Here we go...'

"Yes, here we go. This won't take long at all. You'll achieve your ambitions in Slytherin!"

Thalia was very excited to go to Hogwarts. After having received the acceptance letter, she couldn't stop dreaming about all the amazing adventures and fun she would have with Tee. Not only did she get to learn magic, finally, but she got to share that with her twin. Her best friend. She grinned as she tugged on her younger sister's sleeve and pointed towards the massive doors where someone led them through, being unable to stop the gasp from escaping her lips as she took in all the wonders of the great hall. The girl was still trying to wrap her mind around the fact that she got to go to such a grand school. She blinked and when everyone's eyes turned to her and her future classmates, she glanced down at the floor, shuffling her feet. She tried not to show how suddenly nervous she felt, with a lot of eyes on the group.

The girl fidgeted with her clothes and her hair as she waited for her turn to be sorted, the anticipation was really daunting. She glanced at her sister and realised with a jolt that there was a possibility they would not be together. She watched as Teodora went up to the stool and had the sorting hat placed on her head. After a couple of minutes, it was her own turn. At first, she didn't hear her name, but when she did, she briefly exchanged glances with Tee before she slowly walked up to the stool, her face burning. At least, when she had been standing with the others, they weren't all looking at only her. Now was different, though. She sighed internally, willing for the hat to sort her quickly so that she could stop being stared at by everyone.

"You've no need to be nervous. It's my job to figure out where to place you, so I should be the nervous one. But I'm not! I know how to do my job and do it well. You belong in...Ravenclaw! "

While Teodora was excited to go to Hogwarts, she was going to miss her sister and hated that they would have to leave her all alone with Emori, not that there was anything wrong with Emori, she would probably test Octavia more than she had, but they had created rituals throughout the day that neither of them could perform anymore without the other there. Holding onto her sister's hand as they were led through the massive doors, Teodora nodded her head to indicate that she was seeing them too. Everything was massive here. She tried to look for their sister but it was almost impossible to spot her with this many students present for the sorting ceremony. At least Artemis would see them getting sorted.

She had to wait a little while before it was their time to be sorted so as she waited for the Headmistress to reach the Ps, Teodora looked around the room curiously. When she heard her name being called out she moved to the front of the hall at once and sat down on the stool. She gave her sister the thumbs up when their eyes met and smiled widely. She wasn't that worried about where the hat might place her, though if it indeed listened to a student's preference, she hoped that it would sort the twins together in the same house. Hogwarts would be fun, Teodora knew that it would, but it would be even more so with her sister beside her. She waited patiently as the hat was placed upon her hand, looking up only to see the inside of it.

"You and your sister are flip sides of the same galleon. Ravenclaw!"

Where was she? What otherworldly realm did she wander off to? This can’t be real, this can’t exist? There is no way she was in this old, grimed medieval castle? This had to be a dream, this had to be a nightmare. Alison’s steps poorly audible moves forward in what she assumed was a figment of her imagination. Which all seemed palpable with her cousin’s excitement radiating from beside her. He was all smiles after the headmistress stopped speaking and the old hat bellowed a tune. Alison watched as Linden turns his attention to each table if she had to guess he was trying to figure out which house he belonged in. Meanwhile, she was trying to figure out from delusion and reality, no wonder her father couldn’t accept the truth about her mom. He was able to opt-out of this reality, Alison had no choice. A soft purring interrupted her thoughts, Alison looks down to see Salem brushing up on her brand new robe. The young girl picked up the black cat, stroking it’s fur while the song came to an end. “At least I have you around Salem, try not to become someone’s snack,” Alison glanced over at cousin when she said this, then went back to petting the cat. Linden wasn’t a werewolf, but one can never be so sure.

Eventually, Linden was sorted into Hufflepuff leaving Alison alone. Alison was close to Linden, but she knew she did not fit well with the badgers. Frankly, she didn’t fit well anywhere but if she had to choose Ravenclaw didn’t sound so bad. If she had to hastily accept that she was a witch, then the hat better put her somewhere that made sense.

“Young, Alison!”

Alison moved forward with Salem still in her arms and sat down on the stool. “Let’s get this over with,” she muttered and waited for the hat’s decision.

"Ravenclaw!"

Edward had arrived at Hogwarts at last, he knew his older sister was jealous and his mother nervous however he couldn't help but bounce on the tips of his toes. Secretly, he had managed to convince his father to tell him a bit about the place and after a while had gotten some information about the sorting process. He barely heard a word of what the headmistress had said and was itching to run up to the hat the moment he'd seen it come out.

It was only now that he realized his dad had withheld telling him what house he had been in when he attended Hogwarts. it doesn't matter, I'm sure whatever house will be fine as long as I get to learn magic he thought as finally his name was called. Without hesitation he leapt from his seat almost tumbling forwards as he ran towards the stool and the hat.

It's finally time to see where I belong in the wizarding world Edward thought as he waited for the hat to choose the house for him. He thought about the four houses and tried to guess which house his dad may have been in and which one might suit him. He had heard a few people talking on the train about wanting to be in the same houses as friends or family but didn't think anything of it at the time. Ravenclaw and Slytherin sound okay I guess, I'm a Leo so Gryffindor wouldn't be too bad either Edward thought quickly more to himself than to the sorting hat. He wondered how the old witches and wizards were able to make a hat talk and wondered if he might be able to do the same to a hoody with enough magical training.

"Ravenclaw wouldn't suit you at all, but Slytherin? Hmm, no, no that won't do either. You belong in...Gryffindor!

Casper followed the other kids into the hall nervously. He tried to stick close to the twins, but as always they separated. He ended up behind Allison. Not like she noticed. He stuck close to her, trying to hide in her shadow. He swallowed nervously as Addy then Allie were called, fidgeting as he stood there alone. He waited for Allie to bound past him to shuffle slowly up as he was called. He took a seat, fidgeting nervously with his sleeves as the hat covered his eyes. Hufflepuff or Gryffindor, I dont care, just please dont leave me alone without one of the girls.

"Hufflepuff!"

Zoey Nicholls stood quietly among the other first years, an overwhelming feeling of panic laid heavy on her chest. She was not a fan of standing in front of everybody else and she feared to hear her own name called. As the Headmistress began to speak, Zoey’s eyes danced from table to table, student to student. Her stomach did summersaults as she waited for her time in the dreaded spotlight. She watched as her fellow classmates got sorted one by one, clenching her hands into fists. Zoey didn’t like new places and this was all very overwhelming.

“Nicholls, Zoey”

A rush of emotions ran through Zoey as she tried to shuffle her way towards the sorting hat. I hope it likes me. She carefully picked up that hat and quickly placed it on her head. Her eyes shifted towards the ground and she stood still, waiting. Please don’t say anything mean. Zoey feared embarrassment in front of her peers.

"Mean? I only speak about which house would suit you best and for you that's... Hufflepuff!"
