Elizabeth was confident she would be sorted into the house she truly belonged in. She wished she could be in the same house as her twin, or maybe even her cousin, but at the end of the day, she knew she would make friends wherever she went.

The Great Hall was filled with students and full of cheers. Elizabeth only half-listened to the headmistress as she spoke. A fobidden forest? Danger? All I hear is an adventure. I bet there are lots of places to climb there. Elizabeth would likely be sorted right before her twin brother, she didn't mind going first. F was close to the beginning, so it wouldn't be long before it was her turn.

"Fletcher, Elizabeth"

Elizabeth smiled widely and walked proudly to the stool. Plopping down and giving a big wave to the other students. The hat was placed on her head and she held still, tapping her foot lightly, waiting for the hat's decision.

"Gryffindor!"

Harper was hoping Hogwarts would be a chance to prove himself. To his family, to his mom, and to honor his dad's legacy. He wasn't nervous to be sorted, but he was anxious about what awaited him in his time at Hogwarts. Harper watched his sister get sorted before him.

"Fletcher, Harper"

He made his way to the stool and sat down, looking across the whole school. If he had to choose a house to call his own, it was Slytherin, but he wasn't sure if that's where the hat would put him. Harper took a breath as the brim of the hat touched down on his head.

"Slytherin!"

Kas was conflicted. School meant getting out from under his parents' thumb and actually getting the chance to learn magic without them dictating everything, but at the same time, going off and getting a good education was exactly what they wanted. It wasn't often that their plans for him lined up with something Kas wanted to do and the dissonance was making him grumpy.

Standing in the hall, Kas tried plaster on a face of easy apathy, like this new school and house stuff wasn't about to direct the seven years of his life or anything major. Yawn. He crossed his arms as he waited for his name to be called, feeling like it was taking forever for them to get down to the S's. No one in his family had been to this school before, so Kas didn't have any expectations to work against for once, a thought that made him feel decidedly at a loss when he was finally called up. It was kind of exciting to get the chance to forge his own path for once, but Kas was careful to keep his face neutral as the hat was slipped on his head.

"Hufflepuff!"

Arihi Kuresa walked into the Great Hall with the other first years. It was truly amazing how this place looked. She gazed up at the ceiling to see how enchanted it was. It was everything that Teuila talked about. She was a Hufflepuff. Arihi did not know what house she belonged in. She was her own person and she wanted to prove it. Well, mainly to herself. Arihi watched as others were sorted. Her turn was soon. She was the middle letter in the alphabet so it might not take as long as others.

“Kuresa, Arihi!”

Arihi glanced up as she heard her name. The youngest of her family walked up to the podium. She sat down and felt the hat perch on her wavy black hair. Arihi closed her eyes and waited for her fate. What house? What house would she fit into?

"Ravenclaw!"

Anastasiya Kozlova was in awe of the giant stone entrance way in front of her as she wondered how old the stone knights were. She didn’t get to inspect them up close as the group was ushered into what she could assume was the great hall. She could see the older students at the house tables already, and pretty soon she would be joining one of them. Ana only hoped that Alexei would be in the same house as she was. He was her twin and her best friend even if he was inclined to wander off and have adventures without her, something that made her very cross with him.

Anastasiya stood on her tiptoes, trying to see over the heads of the other first years as she waited impatiently for her turn to try on the talking hat...the sorting hat as mum and papa had called it.

"Kozlova, Anastasiya."

After what felt like four hours, her name was called. The part-Veela girl rushed forward eagerly to sit on the stool. Ana shut her eyes. Go on then, Hat. Tell me where I belong.

"Your desire for knowledge will be further encouraged in one house: Ravenclaw!"

From the view in Brightstone Village, Hogwarts castle had always been an impressive landmark in the distance. Now that Lysander was here, up close and personal, it felt almost like an entirely different place to the one he'd spent so much time longingly gazing at. He could recognise the overall shape, mostly from the layout of the towers, but there were so many details he had missed, or just not paid enough attention to. Even with how much his father had told him about the school, or the pictures he'd shown, it all felt so new. By the time Lysander had stepped through the castle's looming doors, the tie around his neck had been slackened considerably, feeling too tight no matter how much the boy had loosened it. He wasn't used to dressing this way, his uniform felt a little uncomfortable on his skin in the way that new clothes could, even after the lengthy train ride from the station to adjust. The cloak he enjoyed however, using his arms to spread the fabric out in such a way that it caught every breeze and fluttered behind him like a superhero's cape. Heck yeah, he could get used to that.

Stepping into the Great Hall, his hands comfortably clasped in his sister's out of sheer excitement, Lysander gazed around in awe. There were hundreds of other magical kids there, some he thought he could recognise from his time spent playing around in the village or attending any of the Pigtrotters events. He could make out Alistair's head over at the Slytherin table, but his lycanthrope cousin wasn't looking his way for the boy to catch his attention, perhaps pointedly so. That was okay, instead, he turned his attention to the adults at the back of the hall, his eyes immediately spotting his father's face at the long table behind the podium. "Dad! Dad!" Lysander called out with a grin, taking a step forward and standing on his toes to wave at his father and get his attention. It was so cool to finally see him at work, and the thought that he'd get to see him every day blossomed a warm feeling in his heart. "Ellie, look, it's Dad! Hey Dad!" Sander his sister's hand in case she had somehow magically missed the fact their father was at the back of the room, despite all of his shouting. The boy didn't stop waving until his dad waved back, before finally lowering his hand and dropping back onto his heels. "This is going to be so cool." He whispered loudly to his sister and their best friend, with a particular look to the latter of the two to make sure he was okay. A crowd like this wasn't one he thought Spencer was used to, but he let him know he was there with a quick little thumbs up. Lysander was glad he didn't have to do this alone, like some of the kids around them were. Having Ellie and Spencer at his side, and a few other familiar faces - Wendell, whose fall down the side of the train platform still left Sander chuckling, Alexei, and Elizabeth and Scott, all people he'd met before coming here made him feel that much more confident about the whole event. There were definitely more than a few nervous faces in the crowd, but Lysander felt like there was nothing to fear. This was fun, it was new, and it was exciting. He'd finally be able to learn to brew his own potions like Dallas, to fly a proper broom like Kida, and cast his own spells instead of relying on his parents or the adults in his life. He could finally start to do things himself, and for him, that was amazing.

The Headmistress started to speak, but Lysander's attention couldn't help but drift up toward the ceiling, taking in the magically projected sky that shimmered above them. He didn't often gaze at the sky on a regular day, it was all the same darkness and stars, but this sky was enchanting. "I want that in my bedroom. Do you think our dads can do that?" He whispered again to Eleanora. He'd heard about one of his fathers using magic to make it look like he had written in the stars, but Lysander didn't know if he could make an entire sky. He hoped so. It would be a long time before he'd be in his own bed again, a thought he tried not to focus on, but when he was back he wanted to fall asleep under some magical moving stars instead of his plain old ceiling. The boy glanced back down, realising the Headmistress had stopped speaking and he'd totally missed out on all of the important information she'd had to give. Oh well. He could probably catch up on any important details later. Instead, he listened as she began to call off names, and instinctively gave his sister's hand another squeeze. It was happening. It was all happening. He had thought there would be more talking, but already the talking hat was being lowered onto the head of the first student.

For the duration of the ceremony, Lysander played a whispered game with Ellie and Spencer of guessing what house the people in the crowd around him would be sorted into, yet even with all the assumptions about where the other kids would go, Lysander couldn't figure out where he'd end up. There was a lot of Gryffindor in the family - Aeon, Kida, Dallas. From what he knew it was one of the most fun houses to be in, an opinion that was probably biased, but he didn't know that. But Brodie, one of his father's, had been a Slytherin, and so had Alistair and Esme. They were total opposite houses, and from what he had heard, Slytherin wasn't full of the nicest of people. But he loved his father and didn't think he was anything close to being a nasty person, and Merlin, one of the famous wizards from his chocolate frog collection had been a Slytherin, and he was one of the greatest wizards of all time, which was exactly what Lysander wanted to be. It was difficult to guess, and he was itching to get it over with and find out.

Spencer was off first, and Lysander gave his best friend a reassuring pat on the shoulder, as if to say, you've got this. Wendell was next up, in his classic clumsy fashion, and Lysander clapped loudly after the boy's trip up the stairs. "Yeah, Wendell!" He whooped, ceasing his applause to listen out for the sorting hat's judgement. It sucked having a surname closer to the end of the alphabet than the front, and before too long Lysander was tired of waiting for his turn. A part of him wanted to just go out ahead of whoever was called next, and with how hesitant some of the other kids were, he'd have had ample time to, but he kept a hold of Ellie's hand and tapped his foot impatiently. The next person went up ahead, and as they sat down, Sander was struck by a sudden realisation. "Psst, Ellie. Is that old lady our dad's mum?" He mumbled to his sister, pointing out the headmistress with his free hand. He didn't know a lot about the woman, since his father didn't like to talk about her, he was sure she was the same one he'd met once or twice in the past. Now that he was actually paying attention to her and not everything else in the Great Hall, she did look incredibly familiar.

As Ellie was called up, Lysander reluctantly let her hand go, and watched her take her turn under the hat. He was just as eager to find out where she would be placed as much as he wanted to know where he'd go. Would they be together? Separated? He didn't know what that would be like, to be in a completely different house to his sister, but their dad had told them they'd still see each other every day no matter what, so it didn't sound too bad. Still, he held a hope that they'd stick together.

"Summers, Lysander."

Lysander practically threw himself forward before the headmistress had finished calling his name, almost knocking another kid out of his way in his enthusiasm. This was it. His time to shine. He strode confidently up to the front of the hall, beaming at his father as he made his way even closer. It was a shame that both of his parents couldn't be there to witness his big moment, but one was better than none. He gave his dad another wave, to make sure he was paying all of his attention to him, and reached the top of the steps. His eyes shifted to the headmistress, a stupid smile on his face as he waited to see if she'd acknowledge who he was, or recognise him in some way. Instead, she nodded towards the stool with the smallest of smiles, and with an inaudible huff under his breath, Sander turned and sat down, feeling the weight of the sorting hat settle over his head. It was bigger than he had expected. Big, and full of secrets. Probably. Hellooo? The boy thought loudly. Apparently the hat was telepathic on top of being able to talk, so that was cool. Are you the same hat that Harry Potter wore? Did Merlin wear you too? The thought that tons of the famous witches and wizards from his chocolate frog card collection had worn this same exact hat, and had this same special moment as Lysander was exciting. He was going to be just like them one day, he hoped, and this was the start of that journey.

i'm so, so sorry

"Hello to you too. Now let me see here. A healthy sense of adventure, competitive to a fault, a fair amount of recklessness. You must be a... GRYFFINDOR!"

Selvanna Styx made her way into the Great Hall, keeping up with the others as she walked further and further into the hall. The small girl could not help but notice that there were a lot of people in here. She sighed and wondered if there would be a place where she would be quiet so that she could practice. Better yet, would there be a place where she can skate? Well, the grounds might be a no but the corridors might suffice. If she didn’t get caught. Her eyes looked around until she saw her brother, sitting proudly in the Hufflepuff table. She gave him a wave where he saw, and waved back in return. It would be a while before she was sorted since her last name was toward the end of the alphabet. Selvanna waited patiently.

Before too long, she heard her name. Selvanna walked up to the podium and sat down. She glanced up as the headmistress lowered the hat onto her head. It sat down gently onto her brown hair. Her purple shaded eyes continued to look around. What house? Which one? Would she belong with her brother or would she walk the same path as her father? She hoped that she could carve her own path, away from Hufflepuff and Slytherin.

"Better be Slytherin!"

Oliver still couldn't believe he wasn't dreaming and all of this was actually real. Everything leading up to this point had seemed to have gone by in a blur of events and places that had all seemed surreal to him. It had been too much to truly take it in and let his mind go over it. To say he was excited about attending the school would be an understatement, yet the boy was slightly terrified as well. Terrified of being in a place he knew nothing about, surrounded by magic, which he only recently learned was an actual thing, and having to live there as well. He couldn't just run home to his mom at the end of the day to tell her everything that had happened, no matter how much he wanted to. It would be difficult for him to be away from home for such a long time, but the young boy remained optimistic and tried not to let his fears overshadow his excitement.
Ollie had never seen anything like the castle, nor the hall he was now finding himself in. Surrounded by other kids he could feel his stomache start to twist as the ceremony started. He had already been nervous about the whole ordeal, but this so called sorting thing made the situation even more nerve wrecking. The boy had no clue about what it meant to be sorted into any of the houses, but it had to mean something. Otherwise all those other kids wouldn't react the way they did, would they? At the mention of his name Ollie tried to push away the nerves, forcing a smile on his face as he started making his way forward. This school had been around for a long time right? Which meant their system somehow had to work? It felt weird, but he had no other choice than to put his faith into this strange, talking hat to place him somewhere he would fit in. Well, here goes nothing.

"Gryffindor!"

Artemisa Luciana Raven stood by her sister and her sort-of, but not really, cousin, slightly fidgeting from excitement. There were too many people in the Great Hall and while entranced by its beauty, the buzz from Sorting was all she could currently focus on. She could barely believe she was now in their parents' old school - well not just their parents', Auntie Ai, Uncle Liam and all the other adults back in Nightray manor attended Hogwarts New Zealand. Not to mention that Roto - otherwise known as Jai - was here too, seated somewhere on the Slytherin section of the Hall. Sorting had already begun minutes ago, though Misa was not the least bit worried, she and Coco - her twin sister, Felicita - would take a while before they were called. She wondered where she would be placed, she had hoped to be put in Gryffindor where her parents had been, although Slytherin probably wouldn't be so bad since Jai was there. She had been barely paying attention after Corey had been sorted, so she hadn't noticed when her turn was coming up, having been animatedly conversing with her twin.

"Raven, Artemisa,"

The young girl grinned at her twin, Felicita matching her expression perfectly before she strode up to the stool and seated herself upon it, the Sorting Hat being placed on her head. "Good evening Sir Sorting Hat. Do you think me and my twin would end up in the same house? I will miss her company terribly during the night if we don't, but I think we'll be alright regardless right? I am so excited about this! Do you think I'll fit in within the houses? Hogwarts looks like it will be loads of fun. Do you have fun here to Mr. Sorting Hat? Oh, I am terribly sorry, I must be babbling right now. Well, not physically babbling, cause you know, it's all happening in my head, but that's all because everyone says you can here my thoughts so I'd thought, hey why not talk to Mr. Sorting Hat since I don't know if you get much company if it's not Sorting, and it only happens once a year. I am babbling again I think. Ooooh, I am just so excited. I'll shut up now." Artemisa grinned sheepishly as she tried to calm her excitement while waiting for the Hat's decision.

Videl Zhefarovich the Second hated this. He didn’t want to be here. And it was evident on his sour face. He shoved his hands in his pockets and waited until his time was up. It would be a while but there was no way to escape. He wanted to go back home. While he wanted to learn magic, he just wanted to be around family. Why did he have to deal with people that were so unlike him? He sighed as he watched each and every person get sorted into each and every house. He was bound to be one of the last ones because of his last name. While proud of it, that was one con of it. After some time, his name was called. He went up to be sorted, while grudgingly waiting

"A Zhefarovich? I know just where to place you: Slytherin! "

Juniper didn't like the fact that they separated Adorah and she once the castle stood before them. She felt uncomfortable in the robes - they were making her arms itch. She scratched the black fabric with a grimace the group of 11 year olds were led to boats. We're learning magic at this giant castle, and yet, they're making us ride boats? She begrundgingly climbed into the boat, accidentally letting her robe skim the water. She squeezed it with her hand as they slowly made their way through a tunnel and into view of the castle. It was much bigger than Juniper had expected. It took everything in her not to let her jaw drop.

The students were led through the castle and into a giant room full of what Juniper presumed were other students and their teachers. They were all wearing funny hats. She hadn't placed her hat on with the robes. She figured it would mess up her hair. She had just washed it the day before because she wasn't sure if the shower situation would be ideal...since it was an old castle. A woman with an overlooming presence began talking to all the students about rules and things. Juniper never found out her name, but she assumed she must be of some importance in the school. The houses she mentioned sounded like made-up words. Juniper and Adorah hadn't really talked about what she was to expect at this school. All she knew was that Adorah was in a house called Ravenclaw.

Juniper watched as student by student walked to the front, sat on the stool, and had a dirty hat placed on their head. She had originally been a little excited about the idea of attending this school, but the idea that a hat was supposed to tell them what house she would live in? Maybe it was just randomized. She ended up being one of the last students called, since everything was alphabetical. She didn't appreciate the fact that everyone was looking at her but, reluctantly, made her way up to the stool, scooting herself on top. The hat was placed on her head, not going on very far, due to the nature of her hair. She waited for something to happen.

"Ravenclaw!"

Emmy was still a little disappointed that she was going to a new school on the other side of the world instead of the one her parents and family had attended for generations, but it was a decision that hadn't been her own. She hoped she would still have a good time and come home with stories to tell like the ones her parents would tell. Everything she had seen of the school so far made her giddy and eager to see more, the grounds looked spectacular and she couldn't wait to get lost as she explored them further. Emmy departed the train and made the approach up to the castle with her fellow first years trying to stick close to the familiar faces she had met along the way. The castle looked spectacular from the outside, she was sad she would never see the famous castle her parents had so often described but the one she was about to enter looked just as beautiful and majestic.

The new first years gathered outside a large set of double doors and waited nervously to be granted access to what turned out to be the Great hall. Inside was the rest of the schools students all seated along four large tables. Emmy giddly made her way down the gap between the two tables closest to the center of the hall to just in front of the staff table where a stool stood waiting with an old hat sat upon it. After being told what the hat was and what it did Emmy was eager to find out which house would be her home for the next seven years. She was glad to hear that the houses were the same as the other school. She knew her dad and brother were in Gryffindor and her mother had been in Hufflepuff. If she had to choose, she wanted to be like her father and her brother but she'd be happy anywhere.

"Oswald, Emmeline,"

When her name echoed throughout the hall her knees trembled slightly. Once she regained control of her limbs she walked up to the stool and had the hat placed on her head.

"Gryffindor!"

Corey was definitely hiding his excitement better than his two female companions. Artemisa and Felicita were brimming with excitement and it was thoroughly amusing him to no end. He knew that the twins were a constant bubble of energy having seen much of them growing up, but Misa was practically vibrating and Feli could hardly keep from jumping herself. There were loads of people in the Great Hall, he couldn't even find Jai in the sea of students although he had a fair idea on which side of the hall his cousin would be. Well, he could always meet up with the older boy - though not by much - after the feast. Besides, he would be seated with his own house pretty soon.

"Edogawa, Corey,"

Corey grinned at the twins and while they gave him teasing looks of envy, they grinned at him as well and wished him luck. The young boy merely walked to the stool and sat himself, while patiently waiting for the Hat to shout his house. With some luck, he'd be placed in his mum's house - or so he was hoping.

"HUFFLEPUFF!"

Freya would have liked to be able to sneak in and scope out the school she was supposed to spend the next seven years of her life, but she hadn't found the chance to escape the crowd before she was herded into the hall with the rest of the first years. The real witches and wizards, she thought. Ever since she had received her letter, she had flipped between believing magic school was either an elaborate hoax or some big misunderstanding and this new world was going to fall apart any second.

Whichever it was, Freya definitely didn't feel any strong feelings about her new situation. Being afraid of an unfamiliar place full of strangers was for small children, and Freya was decidedly medium-sized and therefore not even the slightest bit scared. Packing her bags and being shipped on to the next house was always going to happen eventually, so Freya needed to make the best of the situation - even if her foot had begun tapping nervously of its own accord. She could deal with this whole wizard thing.

"Song, Freya,"

Or, maybe, she could run very fast in the other direction and nobody would notice her leave. One quick glance at the distance between her and the door told Freya that her chance to flee had passed. Freya pulled at a loose thread on her robe and stepped forward. The podium would probably have the best view of the enchanted ceiling, so that would be the cooler option anyway.

Magic didn't seem entirely terrible, and some of the students didn't look like horribly unfriendly people. Freya wasn't even going to try talk herself out of getting to try on a proper cool wizard hat, either. Taking a deep breath, Freya took her place on the stool and waited be sorted.

"Being just and belonging are two of your traits that shine through. Helga Hufflepuff herself would be happy to call you one of her own: Hufflepuff!"

As Deirdre was shepherded into the great hall with the other flock of young first years, an intense feeling of nausea wafted over her person. Was this the right decision? She wasn’t like the others — perhaps she wasn’t as able as she thought she could be, and perhaps she’d be left behind whilst they all excelled. The place seemed alive with chatter, strong smells of cooked food and floating candles that bobbed gently above their heads. Her eyes remained on the magical display for a few minutes, entranced by the whimsical nature of the brightly burning flames. How did that work? How did they remain standing without aid? Could she do that one day?

Deirdre’s excitable thoughts that had reduced her slightly sick feeling were jostled out of her mind by a particularly bony elbow in her lower back. She stumbled forward gently, glancing around hurriedly as she’d lost herself in her own head. She gulped and glanced around, wide-eyed like a doe before headlights. She noticed a beautiful woman standing behind a podium, glancing toward her expectantly. She was elegant and poised, and Deirdre couldn’t help but stare with fascination and awe for a moment. It was then that she noticed almost everyone around her was staring at her too — and their lips were moving. Go on then, a nearby boy muttered, an expression of confusion covering his face. Deirdre hadn’t caught what she was supposed to do, but she scurried over and sat down on a small stool hurriedly before the elegant headmistress, hands trembling as they gripped the sides of the seat.

What was being placed upon her head? She hadn’t heard a word come from the bellowing brim’s magical mouth, and the entire process of sorting was frightening for the young girl. Were things being said? Deirdre really should have focused on the woman instead of the candles. Damn it, she thought, a mistake already. This was going to be a difficult year. Was this hat.. moving?

Where was she? What was going on? Was there nobody who could sign?

"Ravenclaw!"

Alexei Kozlov unable to help himself but exhibit the same admiration as his twin sister while they enter the grand double doors that lead to the great hall. His eyes went roaming everywhere, from the high charmed ceilings to the floating, flickering candles that hung above them. It's just like how his parents described it and more. They did their best to construe it in words that they could understand and follow, but nothing can compare to actually being there in the flesh. The whumps in his chest escalated every second for every step he took further into majestic great hall. Alexei tugged vigorously on his sister's robe, "You think anyone ever flown up there? It looks so high!" Alexei tries to whisper but is given a look by one of the nearest professors. Alexei duck his head down and kept walking until all the soon to be first years stopped in front of the school's headmistress. He whispers a few more words to his sister once the professor stopped looking, then zipped his mouth shut as the most important witch in the school addressed the likes of them. Alexei tries to listen though he found himself peering up at the ceiling again and checking out the faces in the crowd to see if he recognize someone familiar. Two boys stood out to him, one of them being Lysander, and the other boy he met at the sanctuary a while back. "My friends are here, Ana," Alexei whispered excitedly. Seeing the boys calm any nerves he had building up for this day.

Alexei went quiet again as the headmistress ended her speech and the sorting hat finished it's song. Names were being called and one by one they went marching up to the sorting hat to be place in a house. "Kozlov, Alexei!" He stepped forward cautiously when it was his turn and sat down on the small stool as the old, timeless hat was placed perched on his head. Alright hat, put me in the same house as one of my parents or whatever you think suits me. Alexei held his breath waiting for the hat to place him somewhere.

"Its my job to place people where they are best suited, and I'll do that for you. You're a Hufflepuff!"

Alec didn’t really know why they couldn’t just wear their own clothes to get sorted in, it wasn’t like they had their houses yet. She kind of hoped she would have been able to wear her dragon wings over her clothes too since it felt appropriate, but she’d been told to leave those in her trunk and come to the Great Hall suitably prepared, quietly wearing them under her cloak instead and hoping no one would tell to change. When she did arrive however, all thoughts about what she was wearing left her mind as she stared around the room in awe. There were so many things to look at, and every few feet’s there was something else to take away her attention. It wasn’t until the other students around her started to move that she realised they were headed to the sorting chair, and looking up to the front with her mouth hanging open as she realised what exactly would be choosing their house, she watched in shock as the first few students were aligned. What was that even supposed to be? It was a hat but it had a face. Would anything in their dormitories have a face too? Maybe she’d be able to talk to her pillows if she couldn’t sleep at night. She eagerly waited for her own turn, dancing from foot to foot as she listened out for her own name.

Eventually it was called, and she pushed her way through to take a seat, staring out across the hall with a massive grin on her face as she took in just how big this place was. It was going to take a lot of exploring.

"There's only one place for you: Gryffindor!"

Finally, it was time.

Jacob Cliffeton stepped forward into the Great Hall, following his fellow students and smiling as he imagined his mother walking through here as a first year all of those years ago. It was such a magical place and he couldn’t believe that he was here at last. He couldn’t wait to get started on everything, to step into his common room, into the classrooms, and to perhaps even make some friends. He knew that he would get lost, he knew he would probably even find himself wandering into the areas that he had been warned against going into by both of his parents. They didn’t have to know, he thought with a chuckle to himself.

Jake impatiently waited for his turn to be sorted, first listening to the Headmistress, then the Sorting Hat, and then watching as each of the people who were alphabetically ahead of him were sorted. It was all so exciting, such a magical event that would define the next seven years of their lives. He looked around the Great Hall as he waited, soaking in the simple beauty of the room and the less simple magic that flowed throughout the room. He found his thoughts were interrupted by two simple words though.

Cliffeton, Jacob.

He practically ran to the stool, half stumbling up the small steps that were in between him and the Sorting Hat. As he took a seat and it was placed on his head he felt a smile touch his face. This was it.

"Don't get too comfortable. You're easy to place. Better be Ravenclaw!"

Eleanora Summers couldn't believe the day was finally here. She was going to Hogwarts! On top of that she got to go with her twin, and best friend. Ellie gave an excited squeeze to both their hands. Lysander she was holding onto because she was worried in their excitement the two would get separated, but Spencer was more out of comfort. Her cousin was shy, and didn't much like crowds. Ellie had a nagging doubt that they would be in the same house so she wanted to make sure they were together for as long as possible. Who knew if he would be able to make friends all on his own?

As they entered the hall Ellie looked around in awe. Dad had always described the hall in detail, but seeing it in person was completely different. It was crazy to imagine that their dads, and aunts had all gone to this school so many years ago. They seemed to have a lot of fond memories of the place, and Ellie hoped to make just as many. She was pulled out of her thoughts by Lysander excitedly pointing out their dad at the Professor's table. She had been so excited by finally being at school that Ellie had forgotten that one of their dads would be here. "Hi, Dad!" she called out just as loud as her brother, and waving. Unfortunately for poor Spencer she made him wave too as she hadn't dropped his hand. When Lysander asked if their dad's could enchant the ceiling in their house to look like this one Ellie pondered for a minute. She swore there was a story about Daddy having done that before. "I bet they can! We should ask!" She whispered back excitedly. It would be just like when they went camping with Dallas!

Soon named were being called. Spencer was the first of them to go. For a second it seemed like he was debating whether or not being in school was worth having to go to the front of the crowd. Ellie gave him a gentle nudge to get him going. As the crowd dwindled she began tapping her hands impatiently on her hips. Why did it have to go by last name? If it was first she'd be up there by now! Finally they got the the S's. Eleanora was called up before her brother. She gave his hand one more squeeze, and hugged him quickly before going up. This was finally it!

"You're a true...Hufflepuff!"

Roxy Coltsfoot took her precious time following the crowd of students that were entering and expanding into the center of the great hall. She was in no real rush to get sorted, maybe in a rush to eat and get something in her small belly. Roxy is made aware of the great feasts they served at Hogwarts by her older siblings, but, would it taste the same since it was the sister school she was attending? It wouldn't matter anyways, she'll be chewing on gum by the end of the night or a piece of taffy that her parents purchased in a bulk for her to take to school. There was promise for more if she put some effort in her school work and did more than just sit around on her little bum. Roxy said she would try as much as her body will her to do, no promises made. The Coltsfoot took whatever they can and put faith in the professors to do something about their indolence of a daughter. By the time the long speech was over and the old hat sung a tune, Roxy had her robes tied around her waist and her shoes stored in the bag she carried. She was standing now only in socks while growing tired of the long wait to get sorted. She hadn't mind at first, but right now she desired a nap in front a comfy fireplace.

"Coltsfoot, Roxy!" They called out her name as if she won a prize or something. Roxy looked around and then realize that it was her name being announced. Snapping out of her slothfulness, Roxy stepped up to the stool and sat her petite little body down. The old hat went down and Roxy waited to be place wherever. All the houses were the same to her, it really didn't matter where she ended up.

"Slytherin!"

Tobe-Mae Ellis was beyond excited for sorting. She had tried to make Phineas tell her more about it, but he wanted nothing to do with the girl, which was frustrating. Tobe loved her brother, but he did not feel the same way, and it made her sad. However, she kept her head held high because she was going to fix everything. Phineas was going to love her. He was going to appreciate her. She was his sister whether he liked it or not. She looked over to the green table, where her brother was sitting. She did not bother trying to wave at him. Tobe-Mae knew he would not wave back. Instead, she paid attention to the other first years being sorted. She really wanted to be with her brother, but at the same time, she did not. She did not need him to look after her. She already had their parents hovering over her all the time. She was the daughter every parent wanted, and she knew it. She did everything with pride and poise. Tobe heard her name called and she confidently walked to the stool and took a seat. She was ready, and even if it freaked her out that she was putting all her trust in a hat, she looked proudly at all the tables, knowing that one was just right for her.

"Your ambition will guide you as you find your place in Slytherin!"

Oliver Wright strolled into the Great Hall with his fellow first years. He was elated to be here, finally at the school where he was going to learn everything about becoming a full-fledged wizard. Looking around the hall, he was amazed at what magic he saw all around. He had read plenty about the school prior to coming here, but never did he imagine the full beauty in front of his eyes. Oliver walked along confidently, ready to take this next huge step in his schooling. Today would decide the House he would be in for the next seven years of his life. It would determine his friends who would become family. He looked around his fellow first years and the students at each House table, wondering which one he would join and who of the first years would be with him. Busy with his thoughts, he was mildly surprised when he heard his name called:

"Wright, Oliver"

Oli looked up to the professor that was announcing the names. As excited and confident as he was previously, he was suddenly embarrassed to be up front in front of everyone with all the attention on him. He nervously walked up to the stool for each student to sit on and took a seat. Taking a deep breath, he scanned the crowd one last time, wondering which table he would be joining in a few seconds, and closed his eyes.

"Ravenclaw!"

Felicita Audrey Raven wanted to get sorted already. The excitement was killing her and she wanted it to be over with. She could barely suppress a grin as she watched her twin sister, Chia - otherwise known as Artemisa - fidgeting beside her in her own suppressed excitement. Corey was a lot better at hiding his excitement, although she knew that he was just as excited as they were about this. After all, it was all they could talk about on the way here and even the months before, especially when Soro - her older brother Jai - had gone to Hogwarts the year before. And was sorted in Slytherin. It had built up some excitement within them to know that they would all be going together, especially since all their parents had went together. Corey had been sorted earlier and when Chia was called, Feli grinned at her and watched as her twin was sorted in Gryffindor.
"Raven, Felicita,"
Felicita walked up to the stool and sat herself, searching for the eyes of her twin knowing that she'd be watching. No matter what house she'd be put in, they'd always be together. "Mister Sorting Hat, it would be very preferable if I'd get into Gryffindor as well. Would that ever be possible? Well, technically it is possible if you would allow it so perhaps that was not the right question to begin with. The accurate question perhaps is if you would allow me to be put in Gryffindor with my twin." Feli continued to ponder whilst she waited for the Hat to decide.

"I could, but it's my job to put you in the right house. And Gryffindor isn't the right house for you. No, you'll do best in Ravenclaw!"

Nearly vibrating with excitement, Poppy Perkins took her first steps into the Great Hall. Her eyes darted in every direction as she tried to take in everything all at once.

She was a witch! When got her letter in the mail, she could hardly believe it was true. But she was here and everything was real! So real she hardly noticed the students around her, despite this being the first time she had been around so many people her own age. Distracted, she ran into the student in front of her several times as they walked up to the sorting hat and whispered an apology every time.

Poppy fused with the hems of her brand new robes and watched as the other first years were called up and sorted. She observed them as they reacted and went to join the rest of their house. She could hardly wait to see where she would end up.

"Perkins, Poppy"

She stood up straight and walked deliberately (and not too fast) up to the front. Poppy held her breath and closed her eyes as she felt the hat rest snugly on her head.

"Ravenclaw!"

Tatyana wasn't nervous about many things. Sure, her stomach fluttered before school plays and maybe her heart stuttered when she first tried the rope course, but that was always followed by the thrill and adrenaline of successfully accomplishing something. It's the first time she's been away from her family, from home and now she was in a different country, in a different world, all on her lonesome. It's a humbling experience, realizing just how much she depended on her family, how she took their love and support for granted before now. She resolved to show them how much she loved and appreciated them letting her go on her own adventure when she saw them next.

She tried her best to take in everything around her. The people, the culture, the casual displays of magic, it was all mind-blowing! And to think she was just reading about it in fantasy books the year before. The world truly worked in fascinating ways. She tried reading books about the culture, but then immediately set them aside, deciding that cultural immersion would be the best and fastest way to go blending in. As long as she kept her manners so she wouldn't offend anyone accidentally.

She stood at the side, observing her fellow first years, before quickly looking at the Hat (she felt it deserved the capitalization) when it began to sing. She was curious. Was the Hat enchanted? Did it have a mind of its own? Or did it only come to life during the Sorting? If it was conscious year-round, she wondered how the Hat entertained itself because surely having nothing to do for a year would be boring.

"Reyes, Tatyana!"

Hearing her name called, Tatyana hid any lingering nervousness from her face and walked towards the stool. Sitting down, she let out a deep breath as she waited for the Hat to be put on her head, keeping herself as still as she can.

"Hufflepuff!"
