Flynn had not put in much effort to prepare for this meeting. In fact, he'd barely even put much thought into what he was going to do, quickly coming up with an idea he simply deemed good enough. And it didn't take much preparation, either, setting up dueling dummies around the edge of the room and that was that. Now he needed to do was stand around waiting for the SDA members to actually arrive. Which didn't take that long, really, bored eyes watching as each person entered the room and loitered around. Once enough people as arrived, Flynn decided that he was already bored of waiting and decided to just get on with this. If anyone showed up late then that was their problem.

"Alright everyone, listen up," he called out to the room, unfurling his arms from across his chest. "My name is Flynn North and I'm the president of the SDA. It's a pretty easy meeting and that's basically just practice. You'll see the dummies around the edges of the room. Go and beat them up. I don't care how. Practice spells you're not good at, practice new tactics, just have fun with the spells you're strongest with. Whatever. Older students, if you see some of the younger lot having trouble, then help them out." This really was a low-effort meeting on his part, but Flynn didn't care. "Just a word of caution though - don't go firing spells at other people. Practice just on the dummies. We don't want anyone getting hurt."

Sloane wasn't sure how she would feel during her first SDA meeting - She had no experience whatsoever with magic yet, and didn't even know how to use her wand properly. Unless she was going to blind someone by.. shining a light in their eye? Sloane didn't know how much help she was going to be. As she entered the room and listened to Flynn introduce himself and tell them what they'd be doing, Sloane was still none the clearer. She watched as the other students got to practising, but since the only way she knew how to "fight" was with tactics she'd picked up by being a muggleborn child, she would have to resort to those.

Taking a few steps back across the room, she eyed up a spare dummy in the room. The best thing she had to use at her own disposable was the element of surprise; Sloane wasn't particularly fast or quick and strong which meant that catching someone of guard was her best bet. Therefore, the Ravenclaw was stood behind the dummy, and gave herself a few moments to lumber up. Alright, if I needed to defend myself, they'd have to deal with this, she thought to herself, suddenly taking off at a run and headed straight towards the dummy in eyesight. As she got close, she leapt into the air, jumping onto the back of the squishy frame and tightly hugging her arms and legs around its respective neck and waist. If this was a real person, she was sure she would have surprised them, but right now she just looked like she was being given a piggy back ride.

Lumio arrived at the sda room, he had never won a duelling tournament and given who else was in his year usually in the tournament, he doubted he would win. But as the leader of the SDA told them what they would be doing, and it was just a simple spell practicing event. He took out his wand and went to a dummy. He held it up and practice a few easy spells, doing them non-verbally no matter much much he struggled with it. It was something he needed to work on, and now was as good a time as any for him to do so.

Liusaidh hand nothing better to do with her time than go along to the sda event. She didn't think that it was worth her time, but she wasn't going to turn down an opportunity to do something. She was still surprised that Flynn was the one in charge and she felt like lording over him with the slytherin victory but just kept a slight smirk on her face. She glanced at the dummies as Flynn described what they were to do, and thought it was a little pointless for all the younger students but she did not care that much. She just took her wand out and was deciding how best to use her time, is if was worth being a little annoying or if she should actually practice some spells.

Branson was always excited to have an opportunity to go to a club event, and enjoyed the challenge of whatever was on offer at them. The teen walked into the sda room and when everyone had arrived the boy told them to just practice spells and given that he was having to do his owls, it was a good time for him to be able to practice his spells. He went into his bag and pulled out his dada textbook, and then reached for the pages he needed on the spells he'd likely practice. The teen stood in front of a dummy trying to decide which spell to start with.

Leonardo wasn't very good at fighting, it was his grandfather who thought he should do it, and should be good at it, so the student defence association was where he could do that. The teen walked into the room that was just beside the duelling room as the leader of the club, a boy that Leo knew was on the gryffindor house team. He glanced at the dummies and then watched as one of the young girl climbed on top of one. "Erm...you should get down," leo had approached and was trying to be nice to coax the girl down, she could fall after all and end up getting hurt.

Aurora walked into the student defence association room and immediately spotted her brother in the room. She waved excitedly at him, but could figure that he didn't want her annoying him, and she was not here to annoy her brother, as much as that was very very tempting. It helped too that the leader began speaking. Aurora glanced at the dummies and then took out her wand, it was a long wand and she didn't often forget it. She wasn't sure what spell to start with and then decided to just cast "Stupefy," she was glad that she managed the spell.

Pearl had never been to a club event, and yet here she was at one. She looked at the room and the people within it. She didn't recognise any of them, it wasn't a bad thing, she knew that she didn't know most people, but she felt out of place in this school, without having the familiar faces of people she'd always known. She stood in the centre of the room listening to the boy speak and then glanced at her wand and then the dummy, and had to be a bit annoyed, she didn't know any spells. How was she supposed to take part in it. She just plopped herself down on the floor, maybe someone would come and help her with a spell.

Mischa was excited for his first meeting, curious to see what they would be doing. He wanted to learn some new spells and get in as much practice as possible. However, he was a little disappointed to see they were just left to their own devices to do something. Holding his wand, Mish frowned a little as he looked at it. He didn't really know any spells. He'd done a bit of reading to know what they would be learning in upcoming lessons, but it was not like he had actually attempted any. For now, he just stood there, looking around for a moment before inching closer to one of the older students to watch what they were doing. Maybe he could pick something up.

Indi wasn’t sure what to expect from SDA this year. She had been sad to see Juniper go and wondered what Flynn would be like on his own. She was only really in the club to get better and dueling. She had a reputation to uphold after winning the tournament for her year twice now. She had no intention of letting that title go. When Flynn explained they would be practicing spells today Indi smiled to herself and was happy to oblige. She wasted no time finding a dummy and letting loose. After the break she felt a little rusty and was grateful for the time to get back up to speed. She felt like she had been so busy with lessons and quidditch she had no time for anything else. She didn’t think any of the younger students would ask her for help and she was fine with that.

Brooke knew she should have gotten the hint by now that duelling was not her thing, but she refused to give up on the SDA. She knew Sydney didn’t care, would never care, but Brooke just needed to just once, win one of the tournaments. Then she’d have proven to everyone, or at least herself, that she could do this.

It was going to be hard this year however, now that Flynn North was solely in charge of the club. He didn’t exactly inspire leadership for her and Brooke couldn’t stop herself from repeatedly glancing between him and Ivy as he addressed the club before letting them go to do some practice. As some of the other students set out to practice, Brooke nearly tripped on one of the new Slytherins who’d sat herself down on the floor. “You’ll get hit if you’re just sitting there,” she told her, motioning for her to stand up. “You need to be able to move. Footwork’s an important part of duelling. It’s not just about throwing a bunch of spells at someone.” Looking at the girl, Brooke wondered if maybe she should offer to show her a few things. Brooke knew she was a first year, having seen her in the common room, so she was probably already in over her head. “Here, let me show you a shield charm,” she offered, holding a hand out to help the girl up. @Pearl Parra

Yuelia wasn't a complete fool, she knew she had to look to older students for guidance and inspiration. She would stand on her own as a strong and powerful witch one day, but she knew she had a lot to learn first. It seemed, however, that the club leader would just let them duel and hadn't really considered that most of the young students didn't know anything. She only knew the couple of charms her father had taught her. But lighting up her wand didn't really help in a duel, unless she was right up in someone's face. And she could levitate things, but wasn't sure if that translated to people. She found one of the more out of the way dummies and pointed her wand at it, clearing her throat. At least she could try and practice a new spell. "Stu-pe-fy," she started, unclear on whether she was pronouncing it correctly.

Ivy had debated leaving the SDA a while ago, as she wasn't really doing as well in the tournament as she wanted. But as she watched Flynn give his speech as leader, in a very typical Flynn way, Ivy was glad she was here. In her opinion, he was doing great as a leader. She knew she was slightly biased, though. She smiled at Flynn and gave him a sneaky thumbs up before making her way to one of the dummies. But as she started thinking of a spell, she heard a girl nearby attempt a stunning spell. Hesitating for a moment, Ivy finally decided to help her first. "It's stupefy." She said with a smile. "Youre saying it right, but you have to be a bit more confident in saying it."

Yuelia was a little taken aback by the older girl offering her advice, as she had gathered everyone was really just out for themselves. She found herself pausing, briefly stunned by how pretty this girl was. It wasn't something she'd ever paid attention to, but it was something that crossed her mind for a moment. "Oh," she eventually said, hoping she wasn't coming across as rude and ill-bred. "Thank you very much. I haven't seen or heard the spell before," she admitted. It was something she knew they were going to learn soon, but she hadn't yet had the opportunity to try it out. Not like charms, which she'd been allowed to try at home under strict supervision. She turned back to the dummy, pointing her wand at it with a calm gaze. "Stupefy," she said, this time managing to hit the dummy with a small flash of light. It was a little off target and light compared to what she would have liked, but it was a start.

Louis was happy to be part of the SDA, but he didn't quite know what to make of the leader. Maybe it was just because Flynn, as the seeker, seemed to be the most special person on the team, or maybe it was because he seemed grumpy all the time, but Louis didn't much like him. He seemed like he was no fun at all. Louis listened a bit skeptically as Flynn explained what they were going to do. After Flynn explained it, Louis couldn't help muttering to a random nearby person. "Sounds boring." He said, not caring if Flynn heard him. He started by firing spells at the dummy, not feeling at all inclined to help the younger students. Surely even first years could do this simple task.
