Mervyn might not have considered his relationship with Leda romantic, but he would have been lying if he'd said his heart didn't flutter at the sight of her walking down the aisle in her dress. She was beautiful. Not like that, but really, she was. He grinned, feeling a little underdressed despite being better dressed than he'd ever been in his life. The Welsh hymn played on, and the the lyrics, though possibly lost on most of the assembly, perfectly described how Mervyn felt. He didn't need money, or a big fancy house, like he'd once thought. He just needed Leda, and Eluned, and Wendall. His family. As long as they were around, he would be richer than a king.

Leda smiled at the guests, grateful they were here, and continued to walk up the aisle. It was strange, knowing that she was at a point in her life now where she was no longer playing catch up with her elder sister. She was no longer the child who was following her footsteps. Instead she was making her own memories, and having experiences that Olive had only ever dreamed to do herself. This was new to the both of them and Leda knew she was living for the pair of them as her own life went on. She glanced at West, not knowing what it must be like to miss out on being able to connect with the one you wanted to marry. As she approached Mervyn at the front of the room, she gave Zennon a hug and turned to her other half. Her partner in crime. The one that she knew would always have her back and likewise, she has his. Always had, always would. Best friends for more than 16 years, this would be the right thing to do for their family. Leda loved Mervyn in a way that many could only hope to find in their lifetime, and through everything he was there.

Felix had been sat next to his dad and his sister, who he was almost bigger than despite only being nearly six years old. Ten had wandered off towards Monty and the youngest Layton was sat now behind the blonde lady with pretty curls. He knew Mary Lou was Uncle Wendalls girlfriend, but as the ceremony was going on and people were distracted, Felix took the chance to stroke her hair very lightly, careful she wouldn’t notice, gently playing with the curls.

The song faded out as Leda turned to face Mervyn. Hello, he mouthed, still grinning madly, still trying to comprehend that he was actually marrying this woman, his best friend, his soul mate. Where would he be, if not for Leda? She had taken him in when he'd been homeless, loved him in spite of his having nothing, never judged him in spite of his anxieties. He owed everything to her, yet she never made him feel as if he did. As they exchanged vows, Mervyn knew that they both meant every word, and he hoped that Leda knew it too. He would always be there for her. For better and for worse. In sickness and in health. For as long as he should be lucky to live.

Then came the part Mervyn had nearly forgotten about - the part where he was allowed to kiss the bride. Now. He gave Leda a small shrug, offering her ample opportunity to pick an alternative, and then stepped forward to kiss her on the lips.

It was rare that Leda got teary eyed, but has she was stood in front of their family and side by side with Mervyn, she was. Despite her fears, the ceremony was smooth and easy and came very naturally to the pair of them, and in turn they said their vows to one another and every word she spoke was the upmost truth that had ever left her lips. At some point she had taken his hand, knowing that they were in this together and they now always would be, and that they didn’t have to do things alone.

As the ceremony came to a close, Leda had almost forgotten that it was custom to kiss, and while it wasn’t like they’d never kissed before, the idea of kissing Mervyn was a strange one. She let Mervyn lead, and before she knew it he had kissed her on the lips in front of everyone. Trying not to focus on anything too much, Leda kissed him back, more softly than they had ever before. Once they broke apart again she let out a small chuckle, not needing to ask whether Mervyn felt the same.

Ten really couldn’t see what was going on properly, and throughout the ceremony and hopped a few chairs over so that she was almost directly sat behind Leda. She regretted this however when they decided to kiss and the red head had to swallow the grimace on her face before one of the adults saw it. Once it was over, she slid off her chair once more, and hoped to tell Ned about the view from up the front of the room.

Wendall was glad that Fin seemed to keep quiet during the ceremony, and the former Hufflepuff watched in awe as the pair tied the knot officially. It seemed so, easy, to declare in front of a few people that you wanted to be with someone for the rest of your life. And that was it, Leda and Mervyn were officially married, happily ever after. Wendall slid the toddler off his lap, watching as he went off in search of his own dad once more, and turned to Mary Lou, “I hope Leda keeps her name, Layton suits her,” he mused, even though she was also strange.

Mary Lou nodded at Wendall and smiled. "It was really pretty, I like your last name, it's better than mine," she agreed, noting that Leda Layton sounded nicer and so did Mary Lou Layton. It was the alliteration that did if for her, and she'd always liked that kind of beautiful poetry feeling of words. She leaned her head over on Wendall's shoulder. "Weddings are nice, we should go to another one soon."

After the ceremony, Monty went to find West and ask the man how he'd been. It must have been bittersweet for him, watching Leda get married; but Monty kept the conversation to lighter things, such as how the children were getting on at school. He meant to find Wendall afterwards and thank him for catching Finley, but he and Mary Lou seemed to be sharing a moment of their own. Oh, to be young and in love! Perhaps they would get married one day, too. Monty hoped he would receive an invite to that wedding.

Ned, who had been sitting with her feet on the back of the chair in front, jumped up at the soonest opportunity and went off in search of Ten. What a boring thing weddings were! Although Leda did look quite pretty in her dress. Ned had considered livening things up by objecting, but at the last second remembered Mervyn's warning. Yes, it would have been hilarious, but it wasn't worth getting grounded for the rest of her life over.

The ceremony was about what Zennon would expect from Mervyn and Leda, even getting past what appeared to be a slight awkwardness from the kissing. Personally, Zennon didn't mind it, he was quite affectionate normally, he just didn't always think about it, though he enjoyed things when he was doing them. Soon he heard the scuffling of his son's shoes on the ground and he turned to catch his son jumping into his arms, moving off to the side slightly to play with him as the ceremony came to the end and the festivities of the part after the wedding set into motion.

After the ceremony, they were going to take some photos at the opposite end of the hall, and the redhead moved back the way they came, Mervyn in hand, towards their family. Leda wasn’t particularly good at hugging people but today would be an exception, as they moved round the group of their friends and family and thanked them for coming. The kids seemed to be bored, which had been somewhat expected, and as such Leda was glad once again they’d kept the event small and to only the most immediate family members.

Taking photos didn’t last long at all when there were only a handful of guests, but Leda had a strong feeling that they would come out well and be treasured. Even Wendall seemed to be managing not to make a scene, and so far everything and everyone was still in tact. “Who wants these?” Leda called out, waving the flowers that had been in her hand for the previous events. She wouldn’t have called herself a traditional person but there were always a few things that sounded like fun. Rounding up all the girls, whether they were friends family or the children, Leda threw the bouquet over her shoulder, before turning round with a grin to make a joke out of whoever had caught it.

Mary Lou was excited, she loved parties and this was kind of like a party. Of course it was a party, but weddings were different. As Leda rounded everyone up, she realised she was the tallest and oldest of all the girls, given the others were actual children and she giggled lightly to herself as she jumped up to reach the flowers, leaning down to hand them to the little ones as she played around with them in laughter. "It's very funny realising I'm the oldest girl here, outside of you of course, Leda," she said, looking over at Wendall with a massive grin on her face and showing him the flowers.

Ten was more than happy when they were actually given something to do. As Leda prepared to throw the flowers, Ten was nudging Ned ever so slightly in the ribs with her elbow. She was not going to catch them if she had anything to do with it. As it happened, Mary Lou caught them instead, “Hey that’s not fair, you’re taller than us!” Ten called out, although was quickly silenced when the older girl just handed them the flowers anyway. Well that was no fun. She took her own portion of the bouquet and slapped Ned with them, decorating her friend in pollen.

Ned tried to give Ten a good shove as the bouquet began its descent, but being so focused on the flowers, she forgot to check where Ten was standing, and consequently threw herself on the floor instead. She climbed back to her feet, huffing only until Mary Lou handed them both a few stems from the bouquet. Oh, Ten wanted a fight, did she? It was on. Ned brandished her (thankfully thornless) roses and slapped her friend straight across the face. "There," she said, "you smell better now."

Wendall had gone to stand with the others that weren’t involved with any flower catching, but the former Hufflepuff was doing his best to watch what was going on out of the corner of his eye. Mary Lou looked beautiful in anything she wore, but the particular dress she had on today was also doing wonders. Wendall almost spat his drink out when his girlfriend caught the flowers his cousin threw however, and quickly did his best to hide the fact.

After a small fight had ensued, Mary Lou was smiling his way and he mimicked her reaction, taking a few steps back towards her. An idea came to the front of his mind in that moment and while part of him thought it silly, a bigger more prominent part believed he’d regret it if he said nothing. “What if we did?” He asked her quietly. Taking her by both hands and pulling her slightly away and closer to where Leda was standing on her own. “What if we.. got married too?” The last part of the sentence only just escaping his lips. “You go back to school for another year soon, and this is a whole new chapter in our lives. I don’t want to have to do that on my own either, and, well, you make me happy.” Wendall had enjoyed the last six months more than he thought he could have, and he didn’t want to let that go. “Mary Lou, I want you to be my future, and be part of this family. I want to make you as happy as you make me, and that wherever we are we know we’re still together.” He glanced up to see which guests had realised what he was doing, and blushed upon realising that they were all staring at them. No, for Mary Lou he was going to do this properly, and with a small apologetic look to Leda, got down on one knee, still holding both of Mary Lous hands in his own. “Will you marry me?” His feelings towards her was the only thing he was certain of.

There was always something. There was always bloody something with Wendall. “Oh Jesus Christ,” Leda watched in horror as the scene unveiled in front of her. Surely, surely her cousin wasn’t about to do what it looked like he would. No, no he did it. Leda glanced between the pair and the other guests in the room, not quite sure what the heck was going on.

Mary Lou was a simple girl, with very simple expectation of anything. She enjoyed being around Wendall and his family more than she'd enjoyed being around anyone else in a long time. As Wendall spoke, it took her a moment to process what he was asking - and then he said the words. She couldn't believe it! Her gasp was audible both in surprise and shock. She'd never been to a wedding before, and she'd never seen anyone propose to anyone before, but this seemed like it wasn't the best place. Still, she was a simple girl and she had very simple thoughts as the words kept tumbling out of him. She didn't even stop the tears coming out of her eyes as he said the really nice things about her, things she had never really heard someone say to her before. No one had ever asked her to be part of a family before, not even her Uncle Lou, they'd kind of all just expected it. It was only recently that anyone had asked her what she wanted and it was all hinged on Wendall.

She knew immediately what she wanted and as he got down on his knee, she joined him, throwing her arms around him and pulling him into a massive hug, fully forgetting that she was supposed to say anything at all.

Felix was too shocked and confused at all the things going on in front of him to know what he was meant to do. “Why is she crying?” He eventually whispered to Ten and Ned, watching as the blonde girl hugged Uncle Wendall.

Oh, no... Wendall wasn't really proposing to Mary Lou at his cousin's wedding, was he? Yes, yes he was. And by the looks of it, Mary Lou had said yes. Well, this was... unconventional. What on earth would the bride and groom think?

After getting a face full of bush, Ten tried to spit out as many leaves as she could, before she was distracted at Uncle Wendall doing something that everyone seemed to be staring at. Her brother joined them at their side and Ten shrugged. Mary Lou wasn’t saying much and Ten couldn’t tell if this was a good thing.

Zennon didn't know what to think or where to look, he looked over to Leda and raised an eyebrow. This really wasn't the done thing, but... what were they supposed to do about it?

Mervyn had been facing the other way when Wendall began to propose. The sudden hush that fell over the room made him turn to see Mary Lou embracing Wendall on her knees. "Oh, bloody 'ell," Mervyn said. "I 'ope this ain't gonna be an endless cycle, else some poor sod's gonna end up with Ned."
