Matt had surprised himself by agreeing to help out during the duelling tournament. He wasn't a very big duelist himself, but he had often enjoyed watching the duels. Once the two competitors seemed to be ready for the duel to begin, Matt pointed them to their places before speaking to them. "Welcome to your first round of duelling. The victor of this duel will be able to go on to the next round." Matt said. "If you break the rules, you'll be disqualified. Once you're unable to duel, you've lost." He explained. "When you're ready, bow to your opponent and get started." Matt said, stepping back to let the duel begin.

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours to post, or face disqualification. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!
As an added note: Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels.

Lysander had been practicing for the tournament. He felt confident, he was a two-time champion, eager to make it three, and with a secret weapon up his sleeve, he was sure there was no way he could lose. He took his position on the stage and beamed at Junioer, before dipping down into a low bow. When he straightened up, he managed to raise his wand first, and fired off the first spell, wanting to savour the one he had planned for later. “Expelliarmus!”

Juniper was frustrated that she had been paired with Lysander again. While he was in fact the "dueling champion," it didn't mean she wasn't going to fight to knock him off his pedestal. She held her wand, bowing, and quickly blocked whatever spell he shot at her first. "Confundo," she called, hoping to hit the Gryffindor.

Lysander raised his wand, bringing up a shield to deflect Juniper's confundus charm. Was now a good time? No, he still wanted to wait, and fired back with a jelly-brain jinx instead.

Juniper sighed when Lysander blocked her spell but didn't have much time to wallow as he shot a jinx at her. Blocking it, she raised her wand. "Incendio," she called, not forgetting how her hair almost caught on fire during their last duel.

Adorah was thankful she and Juniper had made-up over the break. It meant that she was able to fully support her in whatever endeavors she pursued, including dueling. While it was not easy to watch her potentially get hurt, she sat front row, watching back and forth like a proud big sister as Juniper kept blocking Lysander's spells.

Lysander was quick to raise his wand and throw up another shield, though he could still feel the heat of the flames even as they sailed past him. As the fire died down and his shield rippled out of existence, he shot back with a slug-vomiting hex, a spell he'd really come to enjoy during these duels.

Juniper was not surprised by Lysander's dirty tactics and blocked the slug vomiting curse. It was not something she wanted to be on the receiving end of right now. "Densaugeo," she threw back, hoping there would be a lapse of attention for her opponent where a spell would slip through.

Lysander was a little disappointed his spell hadn't hit, but it meant the duel lasted longer than half a minute, and he was good with that. He had to quickly throw up another shield, and fired back with the next spell that came to mind. "Rictusempra!" He called, sending the tickling charm Junipers way.

Juniper might have been a little too confident going into another duel with the "dUelINg ChaMPioN." Being hit by one of the same spells she was victim to during their last duel, Juniper bent over as the spell hit her mid-section and she started to giggle. She hated being tickled, and this was one of the worst spells that she had seen so far at Hogwarts. Barely ending the spell's effect with her wand through laughs, she took a deep breath and threw and jelly brain jinx back at Lysander.

Lysander lightly cheered as his spell managed to hit Juniper, pumping a fist in the air victoriously. Yes! He had this now, he just had to- "Protego!" He shouted, his voice higher pitched than he intended it to come out. He'd been too confident, and hadn't realised she'd dispelled the jinx until it was almost too late. He took a step back from his shield as it was conjured, wincing at how close her jinx had gotten to him. Okay, it was time for the big guns. He cleared his throat, and whipped his wand back at Juniper. "Supercillio!" He shouted, casting the totally super cool eye-brow growing hex he and Sully had invented. He'd been hoping to save it for Ajax, given how big the Ravenclaws eyebrows already were, but he thought it would have been just as funny to see Juniper with her face obscured by eyebrow hair.

Juniper was glad she had stopped herself from laughing and felt her stomach pain start to go away. When Lysander sent his spell back, she blocked it. "Are we just making up spells now?" she shouted at her opponent. "Petrificus Totalus," she threw back to the Gryffindor.

Lysander's brows furrowed as Juniper blocked his completely awesome spell. Since his last spell had gotten through, he'd expected this one to, assuming her defenses were lowering or something. "It's a real - protego!" He shouted, growing visibly frustrated. He'd put a lot of work into it, only for Juniper to think it was fake. "It's a real spell! I made it!" He tried to explain, but absent actually hitting her with it, it was hard to prove. "It's actually really cool. Just wait and see. Stupefy!" He continued, figuring he just needed to wait for another opportunity when it seemed like he'd get past her defenses.

Juniper rolled her eyes at the Gryffindor. There was no way Lysander had made a new spell. While he might of thought he was Merlin's gift to magic, she was about to show him that he wasn't all he seemed. Even though she despised the idea of throwing up slugs herself, she threw back the slug vomiting curse at Lysander, hoping to end this.

Lysander huffed and raised his wand, his eyes widening as he was too slow to mutter out his shield charm. The slug vomiting curse hit him, and for a moment he felt fine. Maybe Junipers spell had been a dud? "Hah - ulp." He opened his mouth to laugh, but his throat constricted, and he felt a lump crawl up, slime flooding his mouth as a slug leapt from his lips. He threw a hand to his mouth, trying, unsuccessfully, to stop the second one from doing the same. "Oh, god. Ergh, hurk." He retched, a third slug smacking to the platform with a repulsive squelch. It had been bad enough watching Ajax vomit slugs up in the hospital wing, but he'd never imagined just how bad it would really feel. He doubled over, trying to catch his breath and swallow down some of the slime, though that only managed to make the need to throw up that much worse. Was this going to be the end of it? No, he couldn't let that happen. It was the first round, he was a champion, and he still hadn't shown off his cool spell. He took a deep breath and raised himself up, fighting back the next slug in his throat enough to toss a jelly-fingers jinx at Juniper, before it finally exited his mouth in another torrent of slime.

Juniper let out a big "Ha!" as her spell made contact with Lysander. He definitely deserved it. However, she wasn't paying much attention to the fact that he was somehow still able to throw a spell at her. "Are you kidding me??" she shouted at Lysander as she blocked his spell. "Incendio!" she said, throwing fire back at her opponent.

Lysander's jaw ached, a wave of nausea wracking his body, but despite how awful he felt, Juniper's incredulous response had a cackle of laughter escaping his lips, followed by another viscous slug. He shuddered. This was so disgusting, and he was starting to worry he might slip on the slimey platform. He drew in a breath, and raised his wand again, Juniper giving him absolutely no time to try and recover between slugs. "Prot-pleurgh." He began, pressing a hand to his mouth to try and stop another slug forcing its way out. Instead, his cheeks swelled, and he was too late to try and defend himself from his opponents fire. His sleeve burst into flames, startling him enough to spit out a mouthful of slug and slime onto the offending fire. It quenched it, at least partially, until a second round of slug vomit joined his sleeve, soaking it in a thick layer of sickening green. He paused, sucking in a deep breath of air, and held up a single finger. "Hnngh. Merlin., give me...just a second." He gasped, turning around to spit out another batch of slugs. He wiped his non-charred sleeve over his mouth, and turned back around, giving Juniper a thumbs up. "Okay...okay. Nope, wait." He muttered, feeling his stomach twist. He swallowed, and raised his wand. "I'm good." He said, trying to reassure himself more than anything. He managed to focus enough to cast a bat-bogey hex at Juniper, his jaw clenching the moment the incantation left his mouth, trying desperately to hold back another wave.

Juniper was trying to keep track of what exactly was happening with Lysander. Her spells were hitting, but the Gryffindor seemed to somehow be hanging in there through vomiting slugs. And what luck that the slugs helped put out the fire. Frustrated by her inefficiency, Juniper missed blocking Lysander's hex and suddenly felt a lot of pressure in her nose. "AaaaAAAAaaarrrGGgHHHHHH!" she cried as bats flew out her nose. "This is so gross!" she yelled at Lysander and turned her wand at him. "Confundo," she called, hoping to finally end the duel and put Lysander out of his misery as another bat flew out of her nose..

Nicole had decided to poke her head into the duelling chamber and see how Lysander and Juniper were getting on. She arrived just in time to see bats swarm from Juniper's nose while Lysander spat up slugs before promptly deciding she didn't need to see anymore and left.

Lysander thought for a moment that perhaps his luck was turning around, and he'd have a chance at winning and retaining his title, though as Juniper fired another hex his way, he could feel another slug making its way up his throat. His blood ran cold, realising that this could be it. He was going to lose. That...that practically never happened. It was all he could do to try and jump out of the way, his foot slipping on the slime that surrounded his side of the platform, kicking viscous green chunks in Junipers direction in the process. He retched, spitting out the slug in his mouth, and cleared his throat. He wasn't ready to go down. He couldn't. He took a shuddering breath and jabbed his wand at Juniper. "Furnunculus!"

Juniper felt like she suddenly had a sinus infection from hell as dripping bogey bats kept erupting from her nose. They were slowing down as the last few snot clumps were taken from her, but it didn't mean they still weren't trying to take over her face. Noticing that Lysander managed to dodge her rebuttle, she was distracted by slime coming in her direction. Taking a few steps back, she felt a sudden pain all over her face. It took her a second to realize it wasn't just her face but her whole body as boils broke out everywhere. Huffing through bat flights, she threw her wand up with as much energy as she could muster. "Petrificus Totalus," the temporary mouth breather said as she watched the spell erupt from her wand, hoping to make contact with the Gryffindor once more.

The mucosal bats flying around Junipers face were a sight to see, and the addition of angry looking boils completed the image. Lysander wiped the corners of his mouth and gripped his wand tightly. He could feel the sweat on his brow from the exertion of throwing up slugs, and his hands felt clammy, but he had to push himself onward. ”Protego!” He shouted forcefully, mustering up the strength to conjure up a shield. He was exhausted, more exhausted than he thought he’d ever been in a duel. ”Stupefy!” He followed up quickly. The jet of red light was almost enough to push him back, and his feet found an unsteady footing on the slime beneath him.

Juniper sniffed a bat back in momentarily on accident, and she thought her nose might fall off at this point. The boils didn't hurt anymore, but the bats were still swinging. Sheer will prepared her to block whatever spell Lysander was going to throw at her, and she mustered a lot of energy as she aim for her opponent again with a knee reversing hex.

Lysander's stomach knotted at the sight of Juniper sniffing a booger-bat back into her nose, and he clutched a hand to his chest, the corners of his lips quivering in an effort to fight the urge to hurl. He couldn't open his mouth to defend himself, and with his footing unsteady he didn't want to risk moving and slipping, so all the boy could do was takt the spell head on. He felt his knees contort, uncomfortably but not painfully twisting behind him, every slight bend of his knee making him look like a staggering bird. If birds could hop about with backwards knees, he had to hope he could do the same. Sander spat out a slug, and raised his wand back at Juniper. "Supercilio!" He shouted, trying once more to obscure her vision with his and Sully's eyebrow-growing hex.
