After getting her diploma, October had intended to leave Hogwarts behind for good, and never look back. She had left the magical world almost entirely, as it happened, and her first year as a student at the New Zealand School of Dance had confirmed to October what a good idea that had been. She finally felt in her element, in a way she never really had at Hogwarts. Years striving to be something she wasn't, for grades she didn't actually care about, all of it felt so meaningless compared to the work she was doing now. Hogwarts was her past.
A past that October had forgotten she would have to revisit, until she had received the letter inviting her to her sister's graduation, that was. Of course. Somehow even though they weren't even a year apart in age, the thought that April was graduating already seemed absurd. How had so much time passed? And so she had returned to Hogwarts, feeling a weight on her shoulders just from stepping into this building. How had she lived with this for seven years?! It felt nightmarish, the invisible pressure to always be doing something, even if October had nothing left to do here. She sat stiffly upright as she listened to the Headmistress, wondering who had taken over from herself and Jerara. She recognised Kauri at once and wasn't the slightest bit surprised. He was probably the safest choice possible, after Jerara's stunt at the last graduation. October didn't really recognise the Head Girl at all though, surprised by the choice. Whoever this was, she hadn't been a Prefect. Interesting. October listened to the speeches quietly, flashing back to her own speech up on that same stage a year ago. Did they feel the same dread, the same desperate need to make every word perfect? October didn't know, but it didn't seem likely. Just being in this school felt horrible, and October couldn't wait to leave. She watched the graduations impatiently, waiting for her sister's turn. Finally, April was up, and October burst out laughing at the sight of her cartwheeling across the stage, just as she had at sorting. Of course, April was always herself. October admired and envied her sister's carefree attitude, clapping loudly as April received her diploma. Now, if they could get out of here as soon as possible...
