Professor Justin Cliffeton loved his job a lot more than people would probably think he did. There was a lot to enjoy about being Deputy Headmaster, and running neat little events was certainly one of the perks of the job. He'd asked the Headmistress a little while back if he could host a Wheelbarrow Race once the bigger school events were finished, and she'd agreed. He'd spent the last day or so transforming the Great Lawn into a small carnival along with a handful of the other professors. Even if someone wasn't participating in the race, there was something for everyone.

He grinned as the students began to arrive, and waved to each one of them in turn as they took their positions and configured themselves into wheelbarrows. He knew it wouldn't be the easiest of things to do, but he trusted that they would have put in at least a little bit of practice together before now. He smiled when the last of them arrived, "Welcome staff and students alike to the Wheelbarrow Race! I won't waste your time with a speech, so let's get underway shall we?" He said with a smile. "On your marks.. get set.." He paused to build the suspense. "GO!" He said with a grin, and watched them take off.

OOCOut of Character:
Just a reminder that this is the type of Wheelbarrow you should be RPing as. Roleplay racing, and have fun with each other! When there is a post saying the words "Finish Line", the first team to post going over the finish line is the winner! Good luck!

Summers bounded across the great lawn, transfigured into his husky form and following closely behind his equally canine cousin as they brushed past surprised students and headed toward the newly-erected carnival grounds to participate in the Wheelbarrow Race, the first one in quite some time. The animagus looked forward to the competition against the students - events like these where both staff and students alike could challenge each other were always fun. There needed to be more of them, though with grading and other events already taking place, such as quidditch or duelling, it was hard to find the time for everyone to come together.

Human again, Aeon readied himself at the starting line for the race, his fingertips burying themselves in the grass while Kida took hold of his legs. His cousin was a professional beater with far more upper body strength than he had, so the wizard was resigned to his usual role on the bottom. "Last student to the finish line gets a T on their final grade." Aeon called out as Justin initiated the race, before starting to move forward, one arm after the other, determined to leave these kids in the dust.

Desislav had signed himself and his girlfriend up almost as soon as he'd heard about the race, and now the day was here. Standing with the group who would be competing, Desi thought their chances were pretty good. The professors were more likely to break a hip than win the race and most of the students were younger than they were. With his arm around her shoulder, Desi whispered with Kayleigh trying to figure out which of them would be holding the others legs. They'd practiced with both of them doing that.

As Professor Cliffeton began, Desi cheered when the man asked if they should begin right away. Giving his girlfriend a kiss, Desi dropped to his knees, lifting each leg one at a time so his girl could adjust to the weight. "Let's go!" he howled as he began to move forward, his hands plunging into the grass as he moved.

Gideon was pumped for the wheelbarrow race, having wasted absolutely no time in signing himself and Gilly up, and then telling her about it afterward. She was the only person he knew who he'd actually enjoy racing with. Morrigan and Elijah just weren't physical competition material, tucked up in their tower with all of their books, and he'd doubted they'd be too enthusiastic about it. He hoped at least they'd make it to the audience stand to watch him compete.

Approaching the starting line, Gideon tossed a galleon into the air - dragon and he would be the wheelbarrow, wizard and it would be Gilly. He caught it in his palm as it landed, peering at the golden metal to see some old cook staring back at him. It looked like he'd be the one pushing. "Let's do this, Team Gilleon!" The Gryffindor shouted, lifting up the Slytherin by the legs. It was go time. At the Deputies call, he was ready to move when his partner was, hoping her spider-crawling was as good as her taekwondo.

April was so so so so so SO very excited for this wheelbarrow race. She was jumping up and down eagerly, waiting to begin. She and Kauri had practiced together for ages to be perfect at this! They had looked silly for sure, running like this up and down the great lawn together. They had decided in the end that they were faster with April holding Kauri's legs, so that's what they would do. She grinned at her best friend. "We can do this!" She told him eagerly.

The flying professor was the one saying they were going to start and April quickly lifted up Kauri's legs. She really wanted to win this. They had to! Sure, there were a lot of older students and even Professor's, but maybe that would be to their advantage. Maybe being young and full of energy would be better! When the professor said 'Go' April yelled. "Go Kauri! Hurry!" She started to walk with him, hoping he could keep up with her pace using his hands. Thankfully he wasn't very heavy.

Kayleigh had only signed up to the wheelbarrow race on the condition that they won. So she had practiced with her boyfriend, but as they quietly discussed their techniques and who was doing what, Kayleigh was glad at their decision. Not something she'd want to admit aloud, Kayleigh knew that Desislav had stronger arms, and with him on the ground, it would help their chances. At Desi's howl and the Deputy's call, Kayleigh grabbed her boyfriend's legs as he lifted them up to her, moving as fast as they both could. "Come on Des!"

Deciding on a top and a bottom seemed a little easy for Wren and Lucius. Lucius lifted Wren's legs under his arms, and smirked. This was going to be fun! Lucius did not regret this decision, not at all. As soon as the deputy headmaster started the race, Lucius beamed, and started to go. He cheered, "Let's get 'em, Wrenny boy!" Lucius was excited for this race, mainly because he wanted to get out of the hospital wing, and to have a bit of fun with the staff and students. He had been here for a long time, so he needed to get out a bit more.

Rory had instantly been amused at hearing that a wheelbarrow race between the staff and students was going to be held, and once Rose had expressed interest in participating they had immediately signed up together. An event which was closely followed by mostly forgetting about the whole thing until today. Rory figured that wouldn't hurt their chances, though. How hard could a wheelbarrow race be? They'd definitely be faster than any of the adults, that was for sure. She and Rose joked around right up until all the contestants were lined up and ready, and it was only as the race was about to start that Rory suddenly realised that one of them should probably be on the ground getting ready to be the wheelbarrow. Hearing the call for the race to begin, she unceremoniously grabbed Rose's shoulders and half-pushed, half-lowered her towards the ground. "Oh my god, go!" She figured that her friend was probably lighter than herself, and grabbed at Rose's legs, hardly waiting for her to be ready before she started trying to push her forwards. "We're gonna lose," she laughed, although she wasn't as upset about the prospect as her words made out.

"I'm going, woman" he declared as he continued to move forward. Desi and Kayleigh had practiced a lot, her condition for participating that they win, and he'd wondered for the first time why she was in Slytherin and not his house. At her bossiness, he was brought back to why she was in Slytherin. It was kind of hot though. Desislav glanced up, seeing that the finish line looked like it was a mile away. He had started slowly, but hoped to pick up speed towards the end. At the very least, he needed to beat the old folks. No way could he get beat by a professor. That just wouldn't do.

Monty had tied his shoelaces in a number of complicated knots this morning; he always seemed to fall over them in Arvo's presence, and lest he fall on top of Arvo and crush him he was not going to take any chances. "This was an awful idea," he said, as he stooped about three hundred feet to take his friend by the ankles. "Whose idea was this?" Despite his comments, the Potions professor was already giggling stupidly at how ridiculous this race was going to be. He could hardly even walk hunched over like this, let alone run. Finally the race began, and Monty shuffled awkwardly forward with his very tiny wheelbarrow. Yeah, they weren't going to win. They probably wouldn't even cross the line.

Rose was glad to be joining his race with her friend Rory, and she was sure the two of them would make a good team. After all, they were a good team in most things. It hadn't occurred to her to prepare for this in any way, but standing her now she wondered if some training hadn't been a good idea. They hadn't even decided who was going to be the wheelbarrow. Rory seemed to have the same idea, because she pushed Rose down as the race began. Rose laughed immediately as they started, already falling behind as she took a while to figure out how to do this and not fall on her face. "Don't push too fast!" She laughed. "I'll take you down if I fall!" She moved as fast as she could, but this was harder than she had expected.

Rory wasn't sure why he had signed up to do this, but it was the day of the race and he'd convinced Flavio to be the hands of the operation. He stood by his friend with a smile on his face, it was silly, but he knew that if Flavio enjoyed it, then so would he. "Ye ready?" he asked the ravenclaw as the professor told them to get into position, "If we win, I'll get ma ma tae buy us huge ice creams," he bargained, since winning would fun in of itself, but it would be nice to really share and enjoy the victory together. He held his hands out, and took a hold of Flavio's ankles. he wanted to win quite badly, but he did also think that it would just be quite fun to spend the race having fun. He liked spending time with Flavio and maybe he could admit that making the other boy do most of his homework was unfair, so maybe he had to be a better friend. This could be step one. As soon as they started Rory pushed forward and hoped that it wouldn't be too fast for Flavio, "If I'm goin' tae fast, just like kick me or somethin'" he advised the boy.

Oh boy was Signy excited! She couldn't wait for it to get started. She had joined her favourite hufflepuff in this race, "Come Xavier, let me be the hands, you touch dirt all the time, let me have some fun," the girl pleaded with him, while looking at him with wide eyes. When he finally seemed to relent the girl jumped up and down excitedly, giggling lightly. She wasn't going to let him down, she would be great hands, after all, surely all the time she spent on the farm would pay off in some form, that she would be strong with her hands. The girl got down as the professor told them to get read, extending herself and putting up her legs so that Xavier could take them. She was strongly supporting herself on her arms, though was keen for the race to start so that she could move and make this easier. As soon as the race started she set off, "Don't let go," Signy joked between giggles as she pushed forward.

Xavier had been ecstatic to learn that Hogwarts was holding a wheelbarrow race that year. Something so involved with dirt (for the person with their hands on the ground, at least) that also meant having fun with friends was right up his alley, and he was so excited to participate that upon the day of the event he could hardly believe it was actually happening. He stood next to Signy with a wide, toothy grin on his face that didn't fade as she asked if she could be the wheelbarrow. Xavier had expected to be the person getting his hands dirty out of the two of them but he didn't mind having the other role. The entire point of this for him was to have fun with his friends, anyway, and part of having fun for him was to make sure everyone else was happy. He matched Signy's excited jumping and giggles, before watching as she situated herself with her hands on the ground. He put his hands around her ankles as she lifted them, and waited for the race to begin. A few moments later the deputy headmaster announced they could go and Xavier pushed forward, making sure not to move too quickly so his friend didn't fall over and get a face full of dirt. "Don't fall over." He joked back to his friend as they continued forward.

Flavio had needed to look up the translation of wheelbarrow in Spanish, as well as ask around for the definition of a 'wheelbarrow race' to know what on earth it was, but that didn't change his enthusiasm to sign up with Rory and participate in the event. Though it seemed like an unusual kind of competition to him, it also seemed like loads of fun and he couldn't wait to get started and hopefully win. "Ready" He said, answering his friend. He had agreed to be the person with his hands on the ground that day and assumed the position he was supposed to when instructed, smiling as Rory promised him ice creams if they got a victory. It was then that the race began and Flavio moved each hand after the other as quickly as he could. Kicking Rory so they went slower seemed to defeat the purpose of trying to win. Flavio wanted to go as quickly as possible so he continued working hard to retain his balance and push forward.

Kayleigh laughed at Desi's reply but didn't let it slow her down. She kept moving forward, not paying attention to anyone else around them, knowing that if she looked back, they could wobble, or she could steer the wrong way. No, she kept her eyes on the prize, even though it still felt like that had ages to go. "Come on, come on." Kayleigh muttered. They had to win.

Although Clementine had felt rather hurt by Anthony receiving another pink rose from someone else on Valentine's Day, she didn't like the idea of staying mad at him. Deep down the Hufflepuff had her doubts about it but she figured he was telling the truth. She didn't doubt that someone would be crushing on him and send him a rose but at least he had no interest in who had done it so that thought comforted her enough to forgive him. She was excited to be participating in the wheelbarrow race with him today even though she wasn't particularly competitive. She still felt her win in the dueling tournament was a fluke, but this event sounded like lots of fun.

Clementine didn't have very much upper body strength so she figured Anthony would be much better off carrying her legs and supporting her body weight today. But as they got in position once the deputy headmaster told them to, she realized she was the one who needed to support her own weight more. She laughed as she tried to crawl as quickly as she could with her skinny little noodle arms. "I hope you aren't terribly disappointed if we lose," she said out loud to Anthony as she laughed.

Kida didn't know why she agreed to the Wheelbarrow race, she had so much stuff on lately but taking time out to challenge the students was a good time to take a break, Kida walked through the joining wall connecting her and her cousin's office and smiled at her cousin 'Ready?' she asked.
Transfiguring into her wolf form the two took off to the location of the race, she watched students either take a step back or follow them down, after all wolves were meant to be in the forest not running around the grounds.

Once they arrived at the location Kida got ready with Aeon, she took his legs when offered and smirked at his remark to his students. Once the race began Kida gave Aeon a push to drive him forward, if needed she would push him over the finish line.

Arvo couldn't help but immediately regret every decision that led to this moment. He had briefly entertained the idea that Monty could be the wheelbarrow, but that just wasn't possible. They were hilariously mismatched and the part-goblin professor was sure the students would have a great time watching them. "If you trip, don't fall on me," he told his friend, giving him a stern look. Arvo couldn't stop the case of the giggles when they got into position, however, as he knew what was to come. They began moving, with the elderly professor doing his best to keep up - not that it was too hard. They weren't getting particularly far with Monty's awkward steps.

Monty was trying desperately not to fall on his friend (HNZ needed its pint-sized Arithmancy professor), but as a result they were moving at a snail's pace. Actually, come to think of it, Monty had seen snails move faster than they were. No doubt they were already far behind everybody else, though Monty couldn't say for certain, because bent at such an angle he couldn't even see where he was going, let alone what position they held. "This - is really quite painful," he said, through tears of laughter. A moment later he stumbled - but managed not to fall. "Ah! I think I just - saw your life flash before my eyes!"

"'Wrenny boy'?" Wren parroted in confusion as his legs were hoisted into the air behind him. He immediately realised that he should have put his wild hair into a ponytail, because he was seeing through a curtain of chocolate curls that were obviously incompatible with winning. Lucius was a trickster and had made him laugh even after he'd ended up in the other's ward because of the nurse, so when Lucius had suggested participating in the race together, he hadn't thought for a moment to decline. Here at the starting line, feeling his hands squish into the grass as his arms shook worryingly beneath him, he admitted that he might have made a mistake. He couldn't even laugh at Professor Tuuri and Pendleton's attempts to get started- he couldn't see.
"On your marks..."
Oh no.
"Get set..."
We are doomed.
"Go!"
Wren began peddling his arms as fast as they would go. He was going to eat sod in less than ten seconds, he was certain of it.

Gilly was salty as all get-out that she was to be the one on the bottom. "That coin is loaded," she said as he got onto her hands and knees, firing a suspicious look at Gideon. Still, the acerbic Slytherin was extremely excited. Finally, a physical activity at Hogwarts. Quidditch was fairly physical, but it wasn't familiar to the muggle born twin, and she craved a competitive sport that she knew how to do. Gilly was so ready for this. As soon as Professor Cliffeton called out, the pair shot off like a firework, the Slytherin girl 'wall-climbing' as fast as her arms could carry her. If they didn't win this, she'd eat slugs.

Kauri had been looking forward to the wheelbarrow race ever since it was announced. He and April made a great team, in his opinion, and they had practiced hard, wanting to make up for their height and age disadvantage with preparedness. It was a familiar feeling at this point, as April picked up his legs and Kauri braced his arms against the ground, ready to go.

"WOO!" Kauri yelled as soon as the call to start went, rushing forward confidently with all the strength and speed he could muster. In their practice sessions he had had quite a few faceplants, but by now Kauri was stable and secure on his arms, hurrying with all his might, eyes on the finish line.

His arms weren't anywhere near tired just yet, and even though he knew he needed to maintain focus on his hands firmly planting themselves, he was busy listening to the conversation around him. They were somewhere in the middle, he thought, and he briefly glanced up to confirm. "That's whatshisface!"he hissed to his girlfriend. They'd spoken about that guy.

Rory had assumed that pushing would be the easier part of the operation, but she was quickly finding out that even this seemingly low-effort position was more work than she had bargained for. Rose had found her stride, but now Rory was finding it difficult to keep that pace and not go any faster like she dearly wanted to. They had people to catch up to! Gripping Rose's legs a little tighter, Rory grinned at the back of her friend's head. "The slower you go the heavier you are." She was sure that's how it worked - it definitely felt like it, anyway. "Mush! Faster!" She tried giving Rose's legs a little shake for emphasis.
