Gryffindor Exhibition Game

Bruin did a quick head count and realized that they were missing both Seekers and Hilary, but decided that they may as well get started and he could call a time-out and release the Snitch when the two Seekers arrived.

"Alright everyone, let's line up at centre and we'll start without the Seekers. I'm only going to release one Bludger, but keep your head up. I'd rather not lose anybody to injury. First Quaffle goes to the Scarlet team as we have one less Chaser. Let's play some Quidditch!!!", he yelled excitedly as he bent down and unlatched the trunk again. He waited until everyone was airborne and in position and then removed the restraints around one of the Bludgers. It quickly shot up into the air and towards the north end of the pitch.

Bruin quickly mounted his broom and headed for the South Hoops, seeing as Andy was already guarding the north ones. He hoped that his team would adapt well to the speed of the game as he knew the potential for great things was there.

Kiera had just caught the Quaffle from Jolly when Bruin announced they would start the game. She felt like she was ready as she had already had an excellent warm up. She was so excited for the game that she would be bouncing off the walls if the pitch had walls. She flew down to the center cirle.

Once the game had started, Kiera soared into the air. Her team was at a slight disadvantage to only have two chasers but then again they had Bruin as a keeper. Kiera headed towards Andy as she looked around for Grande and the Gold chasers.

Ellie ran down to the quidditch pitch, broom in her hand and realised everyone was in the air already, she went over to were Bruin was flying and shouted, clapping a stich in her side.
"so..sorry im la..late, just real..ised th..e time, was taki..ng a na.p"spluttering before getting her breath back and asking "what have i missed".

Jolly quickly caught the quaffle from Kiera and threw it back to her. Then, Bruin announced the starting of the game. Excitedly, she flew down to the center circle. Bruin was releasing only one bludger and Jolly was grateful she was a chaser and bludgers hit chasers the post. The game started and Jolly flew back up, hovering in the middle of the pitch.

Cyndi saw that the game was about to start so she went closer to the ground to listen to Bruin's instructions. When she saw that he had released the bludger, Cyndi tried to follow it with her eyes and hoped she wouldn't lose sight of it. Cyndi shot back up and began to fly around.

Hilary saw from her window some red and gold on the pitch, she was late for the exibition game! "It'll be faster to fly" she said alloud to nobody as she grabbed her bag, broom and jumped out the window. Getting onto her broom she flew quickly to the pitch dropping her bag quickly in the stands from the air she flew past Bruin at his post screamed "Hey Bru!" and then proceded to get into position, pulling the breaks on.

Ellie was getting slightly confused, everyone was up in the air and she didnt have a clue about what team she was in ot anything because no-body had told her.
"Help!" She shouted to no-one in particu;ar, but looked up at Bruin and the others who were flying.

Andromeda flew in and out of the hoops when she heard Bruin say that they would begin the game. She knew her position was keeper but watched as everyone seemed to just fly up and position themselves all over the pitch. She knew the proper team knew what they were doing but the first years didn't know where they should go. She smiled her position had been easy to figure out at least.

She knew Bruin wouldn't hear her from this distance but presumed he would take a good look and sort everyone into their proper places soon enough. Quidditch was anarchy most of the time and she figured this game would descent into those ranks very quickly. She stayed hovering infront of the North end hoops awaiting further orders.

Kat saw that everyone else was getting into position and so she did the same. She saw that Andy was waiting near the hoops at the north end of the pitch and that Cindy was in the same generalized area as she was. She watched as the bludger was released and hoped to Merlin that she didn't get knocked off her broom.

(out of character - sorry for not being around much since I started the thread. I know this can be confusing so let's try and get some things straightened out before we start.

First - starting positions. I was assuming that the Scarlet team would line up on the south end of the pitch to start the game. Chasers probably in South East or South West zones. Similarly, the Chasers for the Gold team would line up opposite them in North East or North West. The Keepers would start (and likely stay) in their respective Scoring Areas guarding their hoops. Andy at the North SA and me at the South SA. The Beaters and Seekers could elect to start in any zone on their half of the field (Ellie in any of the South zones, Harri in any of the North zones)

It appears that Harri will not be available for a few days, so I am going to suggest that Hilary switch teams and play Seeker for the Golden Lions (I hope that's okay with you Hilary). This will give each team a keeper, a seeker, two chasers and a beater (the minimum required to play a regulation game as far as I can recall). The Golden Lions will actually an extra player (3 chasers - Kat, Amy, and Jolly).

I'm going to RP yelling at you to all get into positions and then once everyone is ready will RP blowing a whistle to start the game officially (sorry for the delay, but we may as well get it right from the start). I have some surprises in store for you so keep your wits about you.

Second - Quaffle, Bludgers and Snitch - the quaffle is in Kiera's posession at the moment. The bludger has just been released and the Beaters may feel free to RP it flying at them or someone else and going and hitting it (please indicate what direction you are hitting it so it is easier for us to figure out where it is). The snitch will appear at times, but for now the Seekers will have to content themself with catching a glimpse of it here and there, dodging bludgers, etc.


I know this is confusing, but I think we are definitely on the right track.

Bruin noticed a little confusion in where everyone should start the game from and that Ellie had arrived. Fortunately for Bruin, he had a big voice and he yelled for all to hear. "Ellie, grab a scarlet pinnie and get up here. You're playing seeker for Scarlet!!!", he started with a smile.

"Hilary, can you switch teams and play Seeker for the Golden Lions?", he asked, hopeful she would say yes.

"The rest of you. If you're on Scarlet, come to the south end of the pitch and spread out. If your Gold, then head to the north end. I'll blow the whistle to start the game as soon as you're all ready!"

Ellie shouted "Okay" To Bruin, grabbed a Scarlet pinnie and excitedley mounted her broom and kicked off. She had been hoping to play seeker.

Andromeda heard Bruin shouting and marvelled once again at the capabilities of the boy. She smiled proudly at their captain and gave the thumbs up, though from her spot on the pitch he was not likely to see it. She flew back and forth from the first hoop to the third one, finally settling on the centre hoop where she hovered anxiously.

Now that the game was going to start and everyone was getting into their positions she felt excitedly nervous. She kept her eye on Keira who had the quaffle. Bludgers be damned, she muttered to herself.

On Bruin's command, Jolly immediately flew over to their side of the Pitch. The North East area. It turned out that Hilary was now playing seeker for that team. Jolly did not mind. Hilary was a wonderful seeker. Jolly looked at Kat and Amy and gave them a thumbs up. Suddenly, at that moment, the bludger was released and it came zooming directly at Jolly. "AH!" she gasped, urging her broom upwards. Her leg was hit...but only slightly and she was thankful no damage was done.

Cyndi shot over to her, yelled "Sorry 'bout that Jolly!" and hit the bludger towards Ellie, the other team's seeker. Cyndi followed it to make sure it didn't hit any more of her teammates.

Hilary heard Bruin's instruction and moved over the NE dropping her pinny. She floated in that location for a few seconds waiting for the game to be truly started. When a bludger came near her area of the pitch she didn't worry because it was a little distance away. She started to seek the snitch.

Andromeda watched in fascination. She cringed on her broom as she saw Jolly taking a bit of a hit and cheered when she resumed the game.
"Good on Ya Jolly!" she hollered to her.
She watched as Cyndi whacked the bludger toward the other seeker and punched the air with her fist. Andy tried to calm herself. Playing and participating were two completely different things. So she whistled loudly instead to show Cyndi her support. She moved infront of the first hoop closest to the NNW area of the scoring area. Kiera still had the quaffle and was coming towards her. Andy was nervous but excited.

Bruin watched as the Bludger made a glancing blow off Jolly and then was promptly directed towards his end by Cyndi. He made sure to check on it periodically, but tried to get a sense of how his team's chasers were doing in advancing the Quaffle and how the opposition was lining up to defend.

The game is much more exciting when we are all on simultaneously, but I like the way people are tracking their points and describing their movements. Jolly, as pointed out, if you were hit by the bludger than you should be credited with 10 points, but note that according to the rules you can only be hit a maximum of 3 times in a game before you will be considered too injured to continue.
 
The Golden Snitch took flight immediately upon its release with that sense of freedom it always had and a rather poetic quote radiating from its very essence.

"For once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return."

The Snitch fluttered briefly in the South West Zone as if to acknowledge those who sought it.

This is how the Snitch will likely appear in games. If a Seeker is close to it and can post catching it before it posts again or someone on the opposing team posts and blocks, then the game is over. I doubt that will happen here though.

In all of his time playing Quidditch, Bruin had yet to see the Snitch. Of course, he was usually flying around with Beater Bat raised, screaming like a banshee, and trying to obliterate Bludgers and opponents. Yet here he was, floating calmly in front of his hoops and there off to the left a little was the elusive Golden Ball fluttering away. He almost flew for it himself, but instead started waving his hands frantically and trying to locate get Ellie in order to get her attention.

When he looked back at where the Snitch was...there it was, GONE!

Bruin grabbed his whistle and blew it to indicate to start the game, feeling like a bit of an idiot for having forgotten to do so.
