While Angel has never been lacking in intelligence, he's never particularly possessed the drive to do anything with it, much to the chagrin of his successful family. Instead, Angel spends much of his time pursuing things more for pleasure than for anything else. He's used to getting his way or smooth-talking anyone to see his side of things and excels as using his words rather than his brain or brawn to achieve what short-term goals he might set.
Angel has long shied away from responsibility, preferring to let more vocal or high-strung family or friends take on the brunt of the work so he can kick back and relax. When he is left in a position of importance, Angel cycles between panicking and shirking his duties, finding it easier not to try or just hope things turn out for the best. While social and outgoing, Angel is rarely open about his own thoughts or feelings, preferring to keep his true motivations to himself.
As he's grown older and mellowed, Angel has opened himself up to more opportunities, and with them, more responsibilities. He still rarely treats them too seriously and will happily defer or seek the easy way out, but Angel is less adverse over all to taking responsibility for himself and others, a change which has allowed him to become a more dependable and empathetic friend, lover, and parent.

Angel is rarely super forthcoming about his family and history, often preferring to stick to vague allusions or details. There is implication that perhaps what information he gives out is not always accurate or cohesive.
Born in Saltillo, Mexico, Angel moved to the US with his family when he was young, growing up on his family’s ranch in Laredo, Texas. The Castillo family are a well known provider of potion and apothecary ingredients and Angel grew up surrounded by the constant bustle of busy ranch life.
Starting Ilvermorny in 2024, Angel was sorted into the Horned Serpent house. Angel mostly enjoyed his schooling as a social experience, not particularly caring for his studies, much to his parents’ displeasure. Under pressure from his family, Angel was able to at least excel in Herbology, mostly due to his own exposure to the subject growing up. Once graduated however, Angel chose to do little with his talents, content to relax and enjoy the benefits of his affluent family.
When his family’s patience for his lifestyle eventually grew thin, Angel, under some duress, apprenticed with his Uncle, a fairly famous herbologist, assisting in his research and helping secure grants and expeditions for his uncle’s work. When his uncle moved his studies to New Zealand, Angel stayed stateside for several years, eventually following his uncle several years later in 2048 when his family’s patience with him once again ran out.
After coming across an opening for a Herbology professor at Hogwarts New Zealand, and with little else to do, Angel struck out on a new adventure in teaching in 2048
In 2050, Angel began dating Josephine Arora, the two becoming more and more serious over the course of their relationship. Currently, he and Josephine are committed to each other long term, living together, and have two daughters, Amanita, born in 2053 and Morchella, born in 2056. Fatherhood and a committed relationship were foreign concepts to Angel at the start but he has taken to both with great aplomb, wrapping himself tightly around his family unit in a way he was unable to with his own parents and siblings.
