The sorting ceremony had come to a close, and Matt smiled at the sight of the fresh new faces at all the new tables. He had always been fond of the sorting ceremony, he was glad to be a part of it now. He did hope this feast would turn out differently than the last one, though he suspected that Gryffindor starting the year off in negative points had at least some sort of impact. He hoped so, at least. The two Gryffindors that lost the points also wouldn't be attending the feast, though Matt did feel slightly bad about that. Maybe it had been a bit too harsh. Matt stood up, waited a few moments for everyone to settle down, then spoke.

"Good evening students and staff of Hogwarts. I know how eager we all are to start our wonderful yearly feast, but I have a few quick things to say." He smiled as he paused. " For those of you who are freshly sorted or simply didn't know, my name is Professor Matt Alcott-Ward and I'm the headmaster here at Hogwarts."

He took a sip of water before continuing. "Alongside me are your Heads of Houses, these professors are here to guide you and lead you in your respective houses. The head of house for Hufflepuff is Professor Landon Carter, for Slytherin, Professor Angel Castillo, for Ravenclaw, Professor Kahurangi Josephs, and for Gryffindor, Professor James Cade." Matt gestured to each of the professors in turn so the new students would know who was who. Then he went on.

"I already spoke about the forest before the sorting ceremony started, I hope it's not necessary to repeat myself now. I don't believe I have any other new announcements to make, so I'll finish up with this: I wish everyone here a wonderful, productive, and fun new school year. The food will appear in a moment, and I hope everyone also enjoys this wonderful feast." He said, smiling as the platters of food appeared the moment he finished speaking. Matt sat back down at the staff table and mentally went over his speech, hoping he hadn't forgotten anything important. He watched as students started to chat and eat, feeling excited about the upcoming year.

Teddy really got into the sorting ceremony this year, cheering every time a Gryffindor was sorted and perfecting the excessively loud clap he could do. Once everyone was sorted, he listened to Professor Alcott-Ward give his usual spiel then oooed when the food appeared as if he'd not seen this happen tonnes of times before. He started loading his plate with chicken and mashed potato and looked around to see what everyone was up to. "Any food fights planned for this feast?" He asked no one in particular.

EDIT: My bad, I forgot Veronica was serving detention right now

Freddie was already feeling a bit better about being sorted into Ravenclaw. He wasn't happy, but he'd certainly stopped sulking, and by the time the food materialised on platters in front of him, he'd more or less forgotten his anxiety. Those roasted vegetables looked amazing. Forgetting his manners, he reached over the person beside him and started tonging bits of pepper and courgette enthusiastically onto his plate. He wasn't even aware that the sleeve of his robe was dangling in somebody else's dinner.

(@Teddy Pirrip I did too until you edited that XD)

Cyrus didn't really listen to what Professor Alcott-Ward had to say. He liked the man, but he was kind of repetitive and usually said the same sorts of things at these events. Though Cyrus supposed that wasn't too odd, what else was he supposed to say? He was daydreaming a bit after putting some food on his plate, thinking about what this semester might bring. He blinked out of those thoughts when he realized there was a sleeve hanging in the middle of his potatoes. He looked a the young boy who seemed not to notice and cleared his throat. "Er, excuse me. Your sleeve is in my food." He pointed out quietly.

Freddie lifted his arm. There was a bit of potato stuck to the bottom of his sleeve. "Oh - sorry," he said. He started to act on an impulse to flick the potato back onto the boy's plate, then thought better of it and flicked it onto the table. "I forgot how baggy these are. Do you want some more potatoes?" He gestured to the bowl, which had worked its way down the table but was still within his reach.

The Sorting Ceremony was without a doubt the most boring event of the Hogwarts calendar, second only to exams. It was the last thing Morrie wanted to sit through after a long day of travelling and being in a foul mood. She was exhausted just a couple of names in and started drifting off. It was hard to get comfortable sat on a bench though. She'd tried resting her head on the table but that gave her a crick in her neck. In the end she'd opted for resting her head on Vanity's shoulder. Aside from the occasional snide comments from Vanity about name's like Tarquin, she was mostly uninterrupted until the food arrived. Morrie blinked herself awake, "Oh good, the sorting is over." She muttered sleepily, stretching her arms out and looking around.

Eliza couldn't believe that she was now in her final year at Hogwarts. Time had gone quite fast if she was being honest. The Gryffindor clapped and cheered for the new firsties that had been sorted. She had noticed that her roommate Alicia wasn't around which made her frown in confusion. Maybe she just hadn't turned up to the feast, Eliza wished she thought of that. Once the sorting was over, the seventh year went back to focusing on one of the comics she had, not listening to the headmaster, as it usually ended up being the same thing anyway. The Gryffindor had been so engrossed with her comic she hadn't noticed that the food had finally turned up.

Marley had been excited to be back at school. She was happy to see her friends again, as well as for Quidditch this year. She was glad that there was a bit of a break from school work, not worrying too much about exams and whatnot. Marley always enjoyed watching the sorting ceremony. She was always curious on where the firsties would be placed. It had been ages since her sorting ceremony, but she felt like she had remembered it like it was yesterday. Her cousin, Aiya, had been joining them this year and she had been curious on where they would be placed. It wasn't long before the food had appeared onto the table and they could finally dig in! "I wonder what's in store for this feast" Marley mutters to herself but loud enough for the people around her. The food fight had been chaotic from the previous feast to say the least.

June was very pleased with how things turned out to be. She had been done with last year, and ready for this one. The badge she got was very important to her, and had been to her father. And the first thing she did when coming back here was send an letter to him about it. So he would know that not everyone of his daughters were failures. The blonde had made her way inside the great hall, making sure that her badge was well noticed and the grin on her face hadn't left yet. She looked over to the Gryffindor table and tried to spot Fraser. And gave an quick wave as she continued. She walked pass Vanity and Morrie and gave them an quick look, with the same confident smirk she usually had. And found her way all the way to the front of the Slytherin table to have an good view at the professors and headmaster and by that to the other side of the table. She applauded for the new Slytherin students, wondering if they would help out getting the house cup again. Hogwarts would miss her if she would leave after this year she figured, Slytherin mostly. The blonde hoped that today everyone would behave and eat food, not throw with it. But perhaps people had an hard time of listening. She took an bit of fruit for herself and poured in an pumpkin juice to start with. And used it the way you had to use food.

Fiona couldn't believe it. Just when she thought that she was going to have the rest of her time Hogwarts sibling-free, her sister ends up getting a job here at school and she absolutely hated it. Fiona didn't even get any heads up about her even applying here. To make matters worse, her cousin had ended up here too and it even had to be in the same house as her. The girl ended up zoning in and out of what the headmaster had been saying. These feasts were always boring. It wasn't long before the food had popped onto the table and Fiona grabbed what she wanted.

Thomas was always nervous about being back at Hogwarts each year. This year it was the same as the last. He was always homesick when he reached Hogwarts. Sure, he would be able to write to his dad, but it wasn't the same compared to physically seeing him. Thomas sighed quietly at the thought about being away from home again for a while. The Hufflepuff made sure to politely clap for the new Hufflepuff firsties, and then it wasn't long before the food had finally appeared. "Are you excited for the upcoming year? Looking forward to anything?" Thomas asked the person closest to him, deciding to make conversation.

Sophie was prepared for this upcoming year. She was going to make sure that she was at least going to try her best with her lessons. Soph managed to get a head start on a few classes, which she thought was a good idea. The Ravenclaw only partly paid attention to the sorting ceremony and what the headmaster had been saying, being more focused on one of her textbooks to be ahead on classes. She hadn't realised that the food had been on the table until she noticed a small splatter appear on one of the pages she had been currently reading. "Oh no" Sophie mutters in panic, as she looks around for something to clean it with.

Theo was excited to be back at school. He couldn't wait to see his friends and all the other stuff he was going to do this year. He was glad that he was now a second year, not really being the new student on the block. Theodore watched the sorting ceremony with excitement, which made him think that this time next year, his younger brother would be joining Hogwarts, which had been an exciting thought, and he couldn't wait to watch that. Theo clapped for those being sorted and cheered even more for those who were sorted into Ravenclaw. It wasn't long before the food finally appeared on the table and they were able to eat. Theo quickly got a hold of the food he wanted, though in the process, he managed to elbow someone near by. "I'm sorry! Are you hurt?" Theo says quickly, the food completely forgotten.

Eloise was finally at Hogwarts, after hearing all about it from both her brother and her parents, it had finally been her turn! The new Hufflepuff had been a wee bit disappointed that she hadn't been sorted with her brother, but she was sure that she would manage to see her brother around. She looked around the great hall looking for her brother, looking around the Gryffindor table to see if she could find her brother, and she grinned when she had managed to find him, and had sent him a big wave, though she wasn't sure if he had noticed her wave or not. She didn't mind if he hadn't. Eloise continued watching the sorting ceremony, clapping and cheering for everyone. Eloise then listened to what the headmaster had been saying as she didn't want to miss out any important information. It hadn't been long until the food had arrived, and she had gasped in amazement when it had appeared. Eloise then turned to the nearest person. "Hiya! My name is Eloise! What's yours?" Eloise says happily, ready to start a conversation with a new person.

Declan was super duper excited to be finally at Hogwarts. After years of hearing about it from his cousins, it was finally his turn to go. The boy sadly had to leave his tarantula behind to be put into his dorm. He hoped Little Will was going to be okay all by himself in the new dorm room. He also hoped his tarantula wasn't too scared being in an unfamiliar environment. Declan watched as his new classmates had been sorted, clapping for them when they got sorted into their new house. He couldn't wait to make friends in this place. Sure, he had his cousins around, but it wasn't the same. With Fiona being a few years older and in the same house as him, and Molly ending up working at the school. He wondered if it was because she wanted to or if she was forced to apply to keep an eye out on him. Declan wouldn't be surprised if his parents and uncle conspired something to get her to work here to keep an eye out on him.

It wasn't long before the headmaster then had to say his piece yet again after the sorting ceremony, him mentioning the forbidden forest had piqued his interest up yet again. Once the headmaster had finished speaking, the food had finally appeared on the table, and Declan got hold of the food that he could. Declan then turned to the nearest person. "What's the deal about the forbidden forest? Do you know why we aren't allowed in?"

Maybe it had been a bad idea for her to come back here right after everything. She had only been here for a year, and she did quite like her job. She did like teaching. But maybe it had been too soon to be back. But Samantha knew she had to push through it. The former Hufflepuff had been devastated, but she again knew she had to push through it. Samantha clapped for the new firsties who had joined them this year, hoping that she'd able to teach these fellow students in a few years. Though once the sorting had finished, the woman had completely zoned out after that, and it hadn't been long until the food had finally arrived. The former Hogwarts student spent the rest of the time playing with her food, her mind wandering elsewhere.

Cyrs nodded in understanding. He also didn't often wear robes outside of school, he wondered if this kid was a muggleborn, but that would be kind of rude to ask so he didn't. "That's okay." Then he shook his head. "No thanks, these look good." He added, taking some of the roasted vegetables the boy had been putting on his own plate earlier. "Are you alright? Sorting can be a bit intense." He said, remembering a few years ago when he had been sorted and had felt pretty overwhelmed at the feast.
@Freddie Lagowski

Freddie put the tongs down, in case the boy wanted to use them. There were so many amazing things to choose from. Even if he only had a bite of everything, he wasn't sure he'd fit it all on his plate. He scooped on some mushrooms, something cheesy-looking, and a few roast potatoes. "I'm really tired," he said. "Is that normal?" Maybe having your mind probed by a magic hat made you sleepy, or something. Then again, the travelling had worn him out a bit, too. Freddie was currently running on adrenaline and chocolate frogs.

Having a surname that began with Z meant that Kaysi was only just getting settled in at the Gryffindor table when the sorting ceremony was complete and the Headmaster was transitioning to the start of feast ceremony and food. The eleven year old was quite content with this, happy to grab a plate and reach for some favorites that she recognized and experimenting with some food she did not. The room erupted in noise and she was struggling to tune into specific conversations, at least until she heard a student mention the Forbidden Forest. She looked up, spotting a fellow first year. At least she was pretty sure she recognized him from the very long line of first years. He wasn't speaking to her, but she kept her ears engaged wanting to hear the answer. Just the name of it - the Forbidden forest - made her very curious about peeking in and seeing what the big deal was. She hoped one of the older students might enlighten them.

It was absolutely surreal, sitting here at the staff table. Louis felt like any moment now, someone was going to look at him and ask him what he was doing here, or tell him that it had just been a joke and he hadn't really been hired to work here. He glanced at his uncle as he spoke, then cautiously smiled at the person next to him as the food arrived. He remembered her as a prefect back when he went to school here. "Hey, so does this get any less weird or does it feel like I should be back at my house table forever?" He asked her lightly.

@Professor Samantha Jacobs

Apolline hadn't really expected the prefect badge, but it was welcome. Her mother had been pretty proud of her, her father too. Henri could've cared less about it, but it didn't bother her. She was happy, and nervous to have it, sure that to some degree she was absolutely going to mess it up. Apolline watched the sorting, listening along to the names being sorted, but was glad when it was wrapped up and she was able to focus on the food and the chatter. "Good break?" she asked the person next to her.

Winnie felt the pressure her parents were putting on her, she knew that they had been less than pleased about her results, the lack of a win when it came to her house points but she also knew that she could be in a worse position. She had taken all the electives and that was going to aid her in her quest. She also knew she'd try harder at various other things. She barely listened to the sorting, uncaring about it and the new first years, and just filled her plate the moment that she was able to.

Henri was completely uninterested in the sorting ceremony. He did not care where people ended up, he hadn't really cared where he had ended up. Henri just had his book in front of him, reading away, completely oblivious to everything else around him. He didn't even notice when the headmaster spoke and the food appeared.

It had been a surprise, the badge in the post. She had sort of expected when she hadn't gotten it in the previous years that her chances of getting one at all were done for. Just not possible, but it had arrived. It made the sting of her parents distance lessen. She had decided to stay at the school for the full year and had saved up enough that when the break before her final year hit, that she would be able to move out. Her parents were just too polite to kick her out, but she knew where she wasn't wanted. She applauded for the new students and gladly filled her plate with food.

Enoch was not exactly overjoyed to be back at school. But he was. His OWLs had gone fine, though none of his brothers cared, doing this and that and other thing in their own lives. He was a bother. He always had been. He just rolled with what they threw at him, eager for an opportunity to figure out what he wanted from his life, and eager to actually be away from them. Enoch wasn't really listening to the sorting, just staring as it happened, his his gaze moved towards where Lorelai was sitting he wouldn't mention it. Enoch was glad when the food appeared, it meant he was a step closer to being able to go to bed.
