Adorah had never been one for dueling. She still struggled to process how she had let herself be recruited to help proctor, but here she was, trying out new things since Noel was gone for the year. The professor stood near the platform as she looked at the two young duelers and gave them a soft smile. "One of you go to that side and the other over here. You'll bow and then start. The person who wins will advance to the next round. Begin!" she said, making sure she was out of the direct line of spells - hopefully.

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours from this to post your first reply, or face disqualification. Once both duelists have posted, you will have 24 hours from your opponent's post to reply, or be disqualified. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. Please also remember site rules apply, including power/god modding. You can find the site rules here. Duels will run until there is a winner or until 6 IRL days have passed, in which case the winner will be chosen by RNG. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!

Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitor's post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels. Duelers cannot cast spells at the spectators or face disqualification.

Miles was excited about the duelling tournament, though equal parts nervous about it as well. He wanted to do well, and being knocked out in the first round would just be embarrassing. So, the Gryffindor was determined to try and do as well as he could and to get as far as he could manage. "Good luck!" He called out to his opponent for the first round, and a boy he had never actually really spoken to before and only knew by name. He supposed the fact the other boy was mostly a stranger did make it easier, as he wasn't duelling a friend. Listening to the Professor, Miles felt the grip on his wand tighten as he bowed and then, was quick to snap upright again the second they could begin. "Stupefy!"

Doyle was pretty sure jumping into the dueling tournament. He didn't think he was particularly skilled but he felt like he had an obligation to try everything he could while at school. As they got ready to start he bowed like he had seen other students do. He was a little surprised when Miles told him good luck, but before he could return the favor there was a spell coming at his face. He scrambled to raise his wand in time to cast a shield charm before firing one back. "Expelliarmus!"

He noted how Doyle didn't offer him any luck, though maybe he shouldn't be too critical as Miles had gone and shot a spell right at him straight after, so likely his opponent didn't have any time. It was a bit disappointing that his first spell missed, but he was ready for the counterattack, flicking his wand to throw up a quick shield charm to protect himself before countering with a quick Petrificus Totalus.

Doyle felt like his heart was going to beat out of his chest as he tried to think straight. He had gotten used to people tossing quaffles at his head but spells flying was completely different. But despite his panic he kept up and cast another shield charm and fired back another. "Rictusempra!"
