Gabrielle was probably mad to volunteer herself to supervise duels again, but on the other hand, she hadn't volunteered to actually duel her fellow staff members so she was probably not as mad as she could have been. She did feel rather bemused as she gestured for her colleagues to take their positions, feeling somewhere between inadequate and simultaneously too powerful. "Well, we have a bit of a treat for the audience this year, with a staff championship title on offer. Pay attention, students, you might learn a few things." She looked between Angel and James with a quirked eyebrow. "I certainly hope I don't need to remind either of you to keep it clean, hm? Ready?" She stepped back, making sure that they were both ready to go before nodding. "Have at it."

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours from this to post your first reply, or face disqualification. Once both duelists have posted, you will have 24 hours from your opponents post to reply, or be disqualified. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. Please also remember site rules apply, including power/god modding. You can find the site rules here. Duels will run until there is a winner or until 6 IRL days have passed, in which case the winner will be chosen by RNG. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!

As an added note: Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels.

It had been a long time since James had duelled for fun but he couldn't pass up the opportunity to take part in the school duelling tournament. He lined up against his opponent the herbology professor and after bowing and exchanging pleasantries he stepped into position and was the first to get off a spell casting Levicorpus.

It was interesting to be the other side of the dueling platform for once, so to speak as Angel stepped up to face James, unable to resist giving Gabrielle a little knowing nod as she addressed them both at the start of the duel. He bowed smartly to his opponent, readying his wand and holding his stance on the balls of his feet, curious what James might do. He wasn't overly familiar with the newer professor, though he knew 'Cade' well enough around town. Sure enough, James sent out a trickier spell and Angel hurried to cast the counterspell before returning fire with a quick incarcerous.

It was too much to ask for his spell to hit and for it the be over quickly, and where would the fun be in that. James raised his wand to quickly cast a shield charm to block Angel's spell and fired back one of his own. "Stupefy,"

James seemed to be playing things a lot safer after his first spell but Angel couldn't begrudge anyone the classics he supposed, flicking up a shield charm with little thought to block the incoming stunning spell. Angel however couldn't resist the chance to show off a little, aiming a permanent sticking charm at James' shoes.

Angel was certainly creative with his spell choice, James had to give him that. He blocked the spell in the split second it took him to think of a counter, he knew he didn't want to be outdone by the other man, sure Angel had a few years on him and the experience that came with it, but James was a former auror and the defence against the dark professor no less, he wouldn't be outdone. "Incarcerous,"

If Angel was being honest, he suspected he was likely outclassed here. Sure, he'd proctored plenty of duels in his time at the school, but knowing the rules and slinging spells at someone were a gulf apart. At least wrangling Slytherin house kept him alert enough to block James' next spell but Angel only had a moment to send back a simple disarming charm in return this time.

James was relieved when Angel only sent a disarming charm his way, he was quickly able to put up a shielding charm to block it and shot a Babbling curse back at him.

It was tempting to let James next spell hit him and give Angel the advantage of being able to immediately return fire but Angel did had to remind himself despite being well versed in non-verbal spells, the last thing he needed was a bunch of student spectators seeing him babbling away uncontrolled. Besides, he'd seen enough duels go down hill after a small hit so Angel made sure to throw up a shield charm even if it slowed him down. It made his follow up obscuro charm easily to see coming no doubt, but maybe he'd get lucky.

James cast another shielding charm to block Angel's oncoming spell and turned his wand back on the other man. "Impedimentia,"

Angel already felt like he was risking being slow against many of the younger professors, hurriedly blocking James next spell with a wave of his wand, he didn't need the help. He fired off a Confundo in return, hoping to give himself an edge if it landed.

James blocked the spell with a shield, he had gone to dodge it outright but didn't have enough room to get out of the way of a confundus charm, he then turned his wand back on Angel and cast a Babbling curse.
