This was a strange feeling. As a first-year, Avery had envisioned himself as many things - a Quidditch captain included, to follow in his parents footsteps - but as he'd learned that the social environment at Hogwarts wasn't particularly suited for him, a lot of those aspirations had quickly dwindled, and he'd instead been happy to relegate himself to the backseat until graduation. He liked to think himself a good player. A good seeker. Never had he thought of himself as a good leader. Never had he tried to be one. Yet, against all odds, he'd ended up here. Perhaps he'd always meant to, for better or worse. Only time would tell.

The sky was mostly clear, with only a sparse few clouds in sight. Celia may have already been disappointed that he hadn't waited for less pleasant weather, but this had been one of the few times he'd been able to schedule try-outs in. He waited for the students to arrive, a clipboard in hand, and offered a friendly nod to the returning players. "Hello." He greeted after it appeared that everyone who was interested had arrived. There was a brief pause, as Avery realised he'd never needed to speak publicly before. "Welcome to the Slytherin Quidditch Tryouts. I'm Avery Lancaster, the team's seeker and captain. As some of our former team members have graduated, we have a few availabilities - namely, we're in need of a new Beater and a new Chaser. These are large shoes to fill, so I ask you be prepared to impress. Slytherin is the house of the ambitious, and that is exactly what we need our team to embody if we're to continue winning the cup. If you're only interested in Quidditch as a minor hobby, this won't be the team for you." He announced. They had a reputation to uphold, and while Avery was far from as firm as the previous captain, he didn't intend to settle for just anyone. "When you're ready, step up and give me your name and the position you're trying out for. Returning members, you can take to the sky and play as you would normally. Potential teammates need to know what to expect." He said. "Who's first?"

As always, only second-years and above can attempt to try out at this point in time. Anyone with a first-year who is particularly interested can PM me their interest, and if not enough older students post I can let you know if you're permitted to try-out then.

Returning players are only required to post attendance. Alternates will need to try-out again, though will have a preference to be retained on the team.

Please make it clear what position you're trying out for so my small brain can easily make note.

Seamus would've liked to be captain, but he knew Avery was the better choice. He was their star player, and he liked him enough that he wouldn't be annoyed about it. Partly Seamus had wondered if him and Celia's little thing had discouraged her from picking him, but it didn't matter. Instead he just got to the pitch and gave a brief smile to his friend before when being able to fly up in the air and get to practicing.

Enoch had a fancy new broom, one that he knew he didn't really need to have, given he didn't yet have a spot on the team, but that was why he was now there. Looking for a spot on the team. He hadn't made the team the year before, but he liked spots and liked doing them, so he wasn't the type to give up at the first hurdle. Instead he knew it would take a little more time and he was there to try out again. He glanced at the new captain, the seeker and nodded. He was going to be clear about it. Enoch knew exactly what he wanted. "Enoch Goldewyn, trying out for a chaser spot," he said. He took a moment to get his new broom right and then shot up into the air.

Enoch immediately got to chasing, someone else had the quaffle but he was following close in behind, keen to try to get the ball from them, but wasn't able to find an opening. He caught ball after that chaser managed to score and raced to the other hoops. he had to toss the ball to another player at one point when he was sure he wouldn't get it passed some other chasers, and annoying the other person scored. He had a few more attempts, Enoch wasn't steady on the new broom, he just needed more time with it, but he managed to okay, aiming when he needed to, being on target a few times and eventually managing to score at least once. He wished he'd done better but he knew this was a good attempt. Enoch flew back to the ground and hoped this time it would've been enough.

Mischa arrived bright and early, grin on his face and bat slung over his shoulder. This was it. Celia had finally graduated, meaning there was a beater position open on the team. And Mish was certain it was going to be his. He'd done his diligent duty riding the bench for years, but that was going to change. Now was his time to shine and uphold the legacy of destruction Celia had left behind once she had graduated.

"Mischa Falter-Butera, and I'm trying out as beater, obviously," he didn't have his heart set on anything but the beater position. He was quick to hop on his broom and kick off into the clear air, pleased that Avery wasn't taking after their formal captain in waiting for the worst possible weather to hold the try-outs. It didn't take him very long at all to get into the swing of things, grinning as he made contact with the first bludger heading his way. He felt like he put in a good performance, all the years of practice paying off as he finally landed on the ground, a little sweatier than when he had started, but still grinning. There was no chance he was missing out on this, that position was his.

Terror Zhefarovich was more than eager to start the Quidditch year, but first, they had to deal with try outs and then work on replacing Celia Vuong. Terror could lie and say that he was sorry to see her go - but not necessarily. He made it to the pitch to listen to their captain - someone he didn't see playing often but was a good one from what he heard. He nodded at the instructions and took to the skies to help out any of the new chasers.

Horror Zhefarovich did wonder why he was still on the Quidditch team, but it was better than doing nothing. He grabbed his broom and walked out to the pitch when try outs were announced. He stared at the captain and wondered if he would notice should Terror and him switch places. Not that Horror would ever want to play chaser. Once they were told what they needed to do, he mounted his broom and soared up to the goals to work on guarding them.

Toby was well aware that his performance last year had been... less than stellar. But he was absolutely hoping it was going to be different this time around. There was no way he was backing down just because he had a few bad practices. Toby knew that he was a good player, a good seeker. The team would be lucky to keep him, which was why he made sure to show up on time to the Slytherin try-outs. "Toby Oikawa, and I'm trying out as seeker again," he didn't bother sounding too excited about this, making sure to give Enoch side-eye as he mounted his broom and pushed off into the sky.

He had been making extra sure to get in some practice over the holidays, just so he wasn't out of practice. He'd also been keeping his practice snitch close by, letting it loose around the house to see how fast he could catch it again. They were all good practice, but it was absolutely nothing like the real thing. Thankfully, it didn't take him all too long to get his eyes on the snitch, racing after it as he weaved between the players and other obstacles. He wasn't surprised when he managed to wrap his fingers around the fluttering golden ball, pulling to a stop as he admired it in his hand for a moment. And then, he let it go, wanting to try and put on the best showing he possibly could.

Toby ended up catching the snitch a few more times before time was up, softly landing back on the ground and eager to hear how he had done.

Vanity had made up her mind over break, she wanted to be on the Quidditch team. She hadn't told her brother yet, wanting to see the look on his face when she told him she made the team. He'd hate it. She had her hair pulled back in a ponytail and her new broom clutched in her hand as she waited for her turn. She had put some thought into the position, and had finally settled on the one that seemed most fun. She smiled when it was her turn. "Vanity Mettlestone, playing beater." She said.

She took to the air on her new broom, clutching a beater's bat in her hand. She flew around for a bit, getting used to flying around so many people. Then she followed a bludger until she got close enough to hit it. She did manage to hit it, but not very hard. It also didn't hit anyone. No problem, she would just keep trying. Vanity followed the bludger and hit it again. This time, it went a lot further. It still didn't hit another player, but it came close. Vanity kept on trying. She hit a few more bludgers, but only managed to hit one at another player. She hoped that was good enough, but it would have to be as her time was up. She sighed, then flew down to the ground.

Lennox was a little sad to see Celia go as captain. She was a terrible person who really pushed them too hard, but Lennox could appreciate that. She would be happy not to be hit with so many bludgers though. She was hit with more bludgers during any Slytherin practice than any game she had played in. She knew this year would be different. The Slytherin girl entered onto the Quidditch Pitch. She stood among her teammates, seeing that some were missing. Must have graduated.

Lennox felt even more capable this year than she had in the past. She listened to the new captain before the try outs began. She did not care who was on the team as long as they won. She mounted her broom and shot up in the air, getting some practice in. It was the least she could do so she didn't waste any more of her time than was necessary.

Summer had thought hard and well about trying out for the quidditch team. Especially since she had heard first years weren't specifically allowed to try out. She was determined to give it a shot though. Being on the quiddtich team sounded like a good step in making a name for herself after all. She listened as the captain spoke, putting on a bright smile when she stepped forward. "Summer Irvine, trying out for chaser." She told him, although he already sort of had to know her name since he was the one who had approved her trying out.

Summer hopped onto her broom after her introduction, ready to focus on whatever was happening around her. Something that took slightly more effort than she had expected it to. Perhaps she had thought too easily about it. Nevertheless, she knew she could do anything. She was just that good. She flew around the pitch, following the quaffle around until someone eventually decided to throw it her way. She needed to swerve a little in order to catch it, causing her to almost tumble right off of her broom, but in the end she managed to stay on her broom without dropping the quaffle. Summer took a second to decide what to do with the quaffle now that she had it, deciding to pass it to another player after taking it a little further towards the hoops. This probably wasn't the time to act selfish. She spend some time passing around before getting the quaffle passed back to her at the right time to try her hand at scoring. It was easily blocked by the keeper and she quickly shook off her failed attempt. She continued trying t make sure she was part of the game for the remainder of tryouts, glad whenever the quaffle came her way and even managing to get it through the hoops twice before time was up. Although she wouldn't mention how many failed attempts had preceded those succesful ones..
