The new year was already going rather well for Ivaylo Zhefarovich-Dolohov. He was made prefect, and then he was now the president of the student defence association, which meant that this was definitely not the club for first years. They didn't know enough magic. Ivaylo walked into the club room, and with a piece of chalk, wrote up on the board the name of the club, and then his name so that everyone knew who he was, even if they should have already. Ivaylo summoned a chair to him, verbally, and perched a single leg upon it. He smirked as he waited for the other members to come on in. He had a surprise for them. Unlike last year, there would be something big happening. But there was also some reminders he needed to tell everyone as well. As the students filed in, Ivaylo motioned, "Come on in, guys. We have much to discuss about this year." Ivaylo was almost excited and happy about today.
OOCOut of Character:
So, there will be no sign up sheets this year. If you are in the club, post your picture in the following thread: here. That is what we will use as a sign up sheet.

If there was one club that Esmè was looking forward to participating in for yet another year, it was the Student's Defence Association. Less so was she focused on the "Defense" portion of the name, but rather it gave her an excuse to throw spells at people and see how well they could handle them. That was, when they ever actually planned any group dueling sessions. Barely into the school year and the Slytherin had already set one boy on fire, had another attacked with mucus based bats and been challenged to a duel, of which was never finished. This would have to be rectified. She wouldn't be satisfied until James Adams was unconscious and laying on the floor in defeat, whether it was inside or outside the Dueling Chamber.

The second Esmè heard that the SDA would be having a meeting, she made sure she was going to be there on time, if not early. Stepping foot into the chamber, the witch tossed her hair over one shoulder and approached the newest leader, somewhat pleased to see she was the first of the members to enter. She nodded at Ivaylo, yet another boy with the Zhefarovich name, and wondered if Lucien, Avie, or even Vulcan would be joining. Perhaps Jakobe would, too. She'd be happy to see just how long he could shield himself for.

Victoire who had been faced with some difficulties in the recent years, and had been so pointedly shown the sort of issues that someone like her might have, and it had prompted her to pay more attention to defending herself. She was looking forward to being able to fight things out and knew that it would be good practice for her in this year. Victoire had therefore been filled with butterflies when the SDA meeting had been called. A lot of the clubs were doing some things and she was looking forward to it. She was looking forward to the challenge of it all. She couldn't wait to try out some of the spells she'd learned over the last few years and just be able to try them out in such a setting if they were actually able to. The girl put the finishing touches on her outfit and pocketed her wand before heading to the room. It was pretty far from the Gryffindor area, but she didn't mind about that. She reached the room, and then smiled to the people already in the room, she one of them as one of the Slytherin prefects and the other person she didn't know well at all, but she knew that she wasn't a Gryffindor. The girl wasn't sure what to do, so she stood to the side of the room, waiting for the rest of the people to show up, she was hoping that Jean, or even Alex would turn up, so she wouldn't feel so alone.

The teen hadn't previously been a member of the SDA club, but when he'd heard about it from Lucien the boy had decided that it couldn't harm him to expand his interested, after all it had been how his mother had told him to be in school, she had encouraged him to join the quidditch team, to join the yearbook staff and follow his interest in photography, she had never seen any of his photos but the teen was still doing it, and he would do the same here. The prefect wondered what they might be doing in the club, he knew that it would likely involve some fun spells with strange consequences but he was looking forward to it. He knew that Lucien and Esme were part of the club too and he couldn't wait for that, he liked spending time with them both, and he was super glad they were no longer an item, after all he didn't think he would've been able to handle them kissing or what not, it would've been strange and he would've probably hurled at it. He knew that Lucien had a girlfriend now and he didn't mind that as long as he didn't have to watch them exchange icky germs.

The teen had been half way to the room before he'd realised he'd forgotten his wand, and since this was a club about spell casting he knew that was a mistake. Avie had a selection of rocks if forced into a duel that then didn't go his way, he was sure it was against the rules but his spells didn't always work too well, or were too powerful so he knew rocks were a good back up. He carried rocks everywhere with him, and more importantly he took Rockie everywhere with him. The animated rock was his closest friend after Lucien, Esme, Mason, Marcel and Emily, so his sixth best friend. Which was pretty good. The teen finally with his wand, walked into the SDA room, and noticed Ivaylo, a name he had huge difficulties saying, however he did notice in that moment, "Esme!" he practically sprinted over to the girl, "If we get paired together you won't hit me with any bad spells, right? If you do, I'll throw rocks at you," The boy pouted at her as he spoke, trying to ensure that if he got paired with her, she wouldn't end up accidentally killing him or anything, that would suck! He wouldn't actually throw any rocks at Esme, so it was an empty threat, but he hoped his pout and the little face he was giving her might persuade her to not if they got paired together.

Graeme was always looking for ways to keep active and in his mind, keeping active meant not only just doing quidditch, but because he was in the magical world it meant wand work too. Which was why he had decided to go to the SDA meeting. It had always been a club he'd enjoyed, even more so when they were able to actually do spells and have duels, otherwise it wasn't that great, but Graeme came back every year hoping to be able to practice more spells which he was very excited to do. The teen had gotten himself ready pretty quickly for it, he hoped he might run into people he knew but in his experience the club had always been filled with slytherin's and a scattered amount of Gryffindor's. He was looking forward to being able to use some pretty advanced spells if they did anything like that. The teen didn't take long to get to the room, and he greeted the room with a small smile, but since he didn't know any of these people and none of them were in his house, he decided that he didn't need to do much more than a small greeting so that was all the teen did before lingering at the back of the room, hoping that just possibly someone he knew might turn up.

Ailsa had recently found herself thinking very seriously about her future, and she hadn't been sure what she wanted to be able to do with her life after school, but she was feeling like a good thing to do would just have as broad a set of classes and interests and then no one could tell her she wasn't able to do anything. The teen had decided she wanted to do something with magic, and she had decided that as interesting as being an auror might be it didn't particular interest her, she thought of it pretty normal, and wanted to do something more with her life. The teen had been looking forward to this class since she had known that a slytherin would running it and a slytherin who was actually good at things, she dind't know him and wasn't interested in getting to know him, but she knew that he'd at least run the club pretty well.

The teen got her final things together and then left the dorm for the room, vaguely wondering if she might see Logan at the club, he didn't seem very violence and she knew that neither Archie or Orwell would be at the club, since they were both very much about non-violence and the Wild Patch Club. So she headed to the room alone and assumed that while in the room she would likely also be alone but she wasn't going to something because her friends weren't going, no, she was going because she wanted to go, and because it seemed like the right kind of club for keeping the options open. Rightly enough the club was void of anyone she knew and she just found herself standing awkward shifting her weight on her feet waiting for the meeting to begin.

It had been the posters on bulletin boards which had informed Hemi about the Student Defence Association. Just the name itself made it sound like the coolest thing to join at Hogwarts, and what they did there confirmed that it was the coolest thing at Hogwarts.

Hemi arrived on time for the first meeting. He was eager to find out more about the Student Defence Association. He would be learning all kinds of new defence spells which would help him in class and improve his skills as a young wizard. Hemi couldn't wait to get started!

James was not one of the first people to enter the room, but he hoped he wasn't going to be one of the last either. With the duel in the Great Hall having been brought to an end, he wondered what the Slytherin Esme was thinking. She was notorious, and he suspected death threats were what she was thinking. He'd been a member of the SDA a couple of years back, but had slipped concentrating on his OWLs. Now, with Esme on his mind, he wanted back in, if only for the practice should he need it.

So it was with a little surprise, although he should have realised it was likely with Esme being who she was, that as he stepped into the room, he saw her in it. Carefully avoiding her, James moved around the side of the room, leaning against the stone and watching the others as they talked amongst themselves. He was rather surprised to see a first year Gryffindor in the room, and he walked over to him. "Umm, hi. I don't mean to be a pain, but this might not be the club you're looking for. It's just...some of the spells can be quite painful, and I'm not sure how well a first year can defend himself. Some of the students aren't exactly the most approachable..." As he said this, he glanced at Esme out of the corner of his eyes, watching to see what she was thinking.

Esmè narrowed her eyes as, one by one, the rest of the SDA members filed into the chamber. She was definitely not impressed with this particular group of people. There was Victoire, that ditsy little priss who started working at Ollivanders during the holidays, much to the Slytherin's annoyance. The store did not need any more assistants, Esmè had been fine managing it with Keira. The three newest, junior members to the team were just getting in her way. Then there was Graeme, an enemy on the Quidditch Pitch. She was happy to stun either of them. Her glare softened at the appearance of Avie, dropping entirely and transforming into a small smile as the boy ran toward her. Avie!" She responded to his greeting enthusiastically. "I promise I won't hit you with anything bad. Maybe just a Cheering Charm, or Dancing Hex. It'd be fun." She assured him, reaching out to ruffle his hair. She really hoping he didn't actually want to throw rocks at her if she did use anything too harsh. She'd have tried to resist it if she could anyway. Avie wasn't someone she wanted to throw jinxes at.

The witches attention caught on a small boy who entered, someone she thought to be far too young to be hanging around the older, more experienced kids. Did she think he had what it took? Lumos couldn't protect him. She thought about approaching him herself, right until none other than James Adams himself made an appearance. Good. If he was a member, she looked forward to taking him down. The Slytherin gestured for Avie to follow as slowly, she wandered into earshot of the two Gryffindor's conversation. "Giving advice to the child, James? I think he'd make a worthier opponent than you any day." The girl cut in, her tone ice cold. It was hard to resist the temptation to petrify him where he stood.

James wasn't surprised at the audacity of Esme as he was talking to the first year. Anyone else would have appreciated him helping out somebody from their own house, but Esme wasn't 'anyone else'. Esme seemed to love hurting people, either through words or actions, or so he had heard. She had certainly seemed angry in the Great Hall food fight as he liked to call it these days - certainly one of the legendary memories of his that he would cherish until the end of his days. Which, he hoped, would be a long time, but one never knew if Esme was cruel enough to kill him somehow. He'd only challeneged her to a duel of all things, as a distraction. Still, with the backing of another Slytherin prefect, James couldn't take her on directly, especially since the leader of the club was a Slytherin as well. He was well outnumbered, and he knew it, but he didn't let it show, instead standing up and stepping in front of the boy to protect him. James replied quickly "Well that's ironic, because I was thinking he'd make a worthier opponent than you. After all, at least he can keep his temper, even when he's being served in a shop..." He trailed off, hoping he'd made it obvious that Esme was notorious as the Ollivander's shop assistant, especially since a couple of the first years she had shouted at had been in Gryffindor, and James was a prefect having to listen to them natter on.

Ivaylo looked for his family members, but had yet to see them. Narrowing his eyes slightly, he noticed that there was a first year within the ranks. Gripping the back of his chair, he opened his mouth to tell the first year that this club is for experienced students, aka, students that know more than lumos and nox, but then a Gryffindor student stepped in. Then, Esme started to argue with the first year. Slapping his palm to his face, he rose from his chair and approached the three. His form towered over them all. He first turned to the Gryffindor Prefect, "Actually, seeing as this is my club for the time being, perhaps you should let the business of the best interest rest within myself. If he wants to be a target, by all means. We always need more moving dummies." Ivaylo rolled his eyes to the first year. "Be it as it may, this guy is right. This isn't the club for you. We are going to start duels immediately. And you don't even know how to wave a wand correctly. You should come back next year if you are so eager. And watch the matches of course." Ivaylo turned his attention now to both James and Esme. Narrowing his eyes at the two of them, he warned, "You two need to take your lover's quarrel elsewhere. I don't have the time or patience to witness. If it can't wait, you can leave permanently. So, if you don't mind, I'd like to wait a few minutes in harmony, before we begin the meeting." The Slytherin prefect shook his head, and he walked away from them, only to place his boot onto the chair, and glare ahead.

Vladimir Zhefarovich made his way down the dungeons, with Lucien Snow and Vulcan Zhefarovich behind him. The Slytherin prefect only held pride within his cold appearance. As he entered the room, his eyes suddenly narrowed to see Ivaylo going off on three people. 'So it begins already,' thought Vladimir as he shrugged it off. As Ivaylo returned to his spot, Vladimir made his way across the classroom. Sighing, Vladimir stood next to his technical uncle, before folding his arms across his chest. He was anxious to get the meeting underway, so that he could work on some new quidditch plays. They were more important to him because it was his team.

Lucien Snow marched behind Vladimir, almost seething upon who were crowned prefects this year. No, he was not unhappy about Avie and Ivaylo, but his twin brother somehow earned that badge. Gryffindors must have been so lazy. Shaking his head, he walked into the room specialized for dueling. He remembered the tournament two years ago. He was runner up to champion of his year, losing only to his half-sister. It pissed him off, but he still appreciated her within his life. He shook his head at some people within the room, before making his way over to Avie. He placed his hand upon his friend's shoulder, before saying, "Hope you are ready to duel, my friend." Lucien could not wait to see what Avie could do in the arena.

Vulcan Zhefarovich was a little irritated to be back within the halls of Hogwarts New Zealand. However, he only returned for one reason, and that person was someone that he looked forward to seeing today. Vulcan made his way behind Vladimir, but next to Lucien. He looked toward his cousin, before facing forward. Vladimir was definitely someone that he did not want to mess with. That was his older brother, and he knew his brother better than any other student here. Vulcan let out sigh as he entered, and heard his uncle speaking to two Gryffindors, and Esme. While the other two went off elsewhere, Vulcan tapped Esme on the shoulder, and flashed her a dashing smile.

Esmè burst into harsh, derisive laughter as James suggested the little first year was better than her because she had a "temper". As magic was tied closely to the emotions of the wizard, anger could typically help pack a punch with spellcasting, rather than hinder it. Her cousin was trying to convince her that the so called aggression she had been exhibiting recently was a problem. She disagreed. The problem was everyone else. "Here's an idea. Why don't we have a rematch? You can even invite your shiny new first year to help you out. I'll still crush you both." She would have continued, until Ivaylo decided to cut in. She scoffed, folding her arms. "Lover's quarrel? Please. I have standards." She remarked, turning away from James and the others when her standards suddenly tapped her on the shoulder. Her scowl immediately melted away into a much warmer smile. "Well hello. I was starting to think this club wasn't going to be worth my time this year." The witch surveyed the room, completely sure that at least half of the attendees were going to be easy opponents.
