Connor had been trying his absolute best not to think about Quidditch recently. Their defeat in semester 1 had been crushing, and his fight with Linden had overshadowed any hopes he had had of being remembered as a good captain. He was torn between being relieved he wouldn't have to deal with the other boy's behavioural issues anymore, and missing his companionship on the team. But what was done was done, and Hufflepuff was left with only one alternate player, now that René was stepping into Linden's old spot. He had spent hours going over what he wanted to say before practice, and it still didn't feel right, carefully planned speech leaving his head as soon as the team gathered.

"Hi guys, welcome to... our last practice of the year. We've got one match left against Gryffindor, and we're going to make it count. The odds might be against us, but we don't go down without a fight. Let's... work hard today, and make sure we're ready for the match." He cleared his throat, heart thudding with nerves as he went on. "As you guys know, Linden decided last semester to quit the team. We're down a Keeper and don't have an alternate for the position, so René will be stepping in to Linden's spot for the next match, and he'll be our practice Keeper today. Instructions are the same as any practice - Beaters, we'll focus on the Seekers, Lucas and Felix you guys are competing for the snitch, Chasers practice passing and stealing, and make sure you fly a full lap of the pitch between each shot. René, focus on getting comfortable in front of the hoops, and work on your blocking and instincts as much as possible, try to study the angle the Chasers are aiming for each shot." Hoping the team hadn't picked up the tremble in his voice, Connor reached for the whistle around his neck and blew it, before taking off and starting the practice.

OOCOut of Character:
No arrivals, let's get straight into it. Practice will run until our match on the 6th of February.

René shuffled uncomfortably on the pitch as he listened to Connor address the team. It felt weird being back on the pitch without his bat, and weirder still stepping in fully into Linden's vacated position. He half wondered if the keeper spot might cursed or something but refused to let himself think too hard about it, trying to take Connor's advice to heart before mounting up and kicking into the air to circle the hoops.

Felix couldn't wait to get back out onto the pitch. He took a moment and stretched in the sun before Connor blew the whistle to start practice. He took to the air and kept an eye on Lucas out of the corner of his eye. But in the other direction he noticed some movement and spun around to see the snitch darting by. Without a second thought he chased after it and caught the small gold ball and held it up. "WOO!" he cheered and turned to the captain. "Is that a new record?" he joked.

Connor had barely taken off when he heard a cry, looking over in shock to see the snitch gripped in Felix's hand. His eyes boggled slightly, and he gave a disbelieving laugh. "It might be!" He called out. "Good work!"

René couldn't believe Felix had caught the snitch already, nearly slipping off his broom when he came to a sudden halt to watch him scoop it up. "Wow, that's amazing," he called as Connor mentioned it might be a new team record.

Flying on from where he had been talking to Felix Connor spotted a bludger and flew after it, giving the ball a smack back in the direction he had come. He always felt a little guilty about hitting much younger players, but Felix had proved himself - he needed to remember the game could be dangerous too. "YOU OKAY?" He called out to the younger boy after his shot connected.
@Felix Carnahan

Felix was still riding the high of catching the snitch so soon and didn't notice the bludger coming his way until it knocked into him and sent him spinning sideways. The wind was knocked out of him but by some miracle he was able to hold on to his broom. He heard Connor ask if he was ok and he wanted to laugh, but he was in far too much pain for that. Felix settled on a weak thumbs up instead.

René grimaced as Connor sent a bludger straight to Felix. It was still early and as weird as it felt to be confined to one part of the pitch, René was kind of glad he didn't have to be constantly watching for bludgers right now.

Jordie missed Linden horribly. He tried not to let it show and immediately jumped into the air, grabbing the quaffle and starting for the hoops. He had time to make up for.

René sat up when he saw Jordie take the quaffle, trying to position himself in a good spot in front of the hoops and look for the angle of the shot like Connor had said.

Lucas grimaced as Felix immediately got the snitch. After the match, he wanted to do better, but he was already being shown up. He quickly looked around for the snitch, hoping to catch it soon as well.

Jordie wasn't used to Rene, and he was both pleased and annoyed when the other boy caught his shot. He smiled widely, shooting the boy a thumbs up.

Felix wasn’t feeling great after his bludger hit but he kept looking for the snitch, just slower this time.

René fumbled for the quaffle as Jordie threw it, relieved he managed to get his hands on it enough to knock it aside. Dropping down to grab it and throw it back out, he smiled sheepishly at Jordie's thumbs up, wondering if the chasers were going easy on him or not but still feeling pretty good about managing to block the first shot.

Jordie caught the quaffle as it was thrown back out, looking around and ready to pass to either of the other chasers as he started back around again.

Blair was excited for the practice, even if her favorite teammate wasn't going to be in the practice and she knew that it will be pretty hard for them after that. However, she was there, absolutely ready to mount the broom and throw in Quaffles. Tho, Jordie had it and Blair just simply followed him in case if she could steal the Quaffle or if he passed.

Jordie noticed Blair flying nearby and tossed her the quaffle, giving her an impish grin. @Blair Bianchi

René was still feeling pretty good about blocking Jordie's last shot, though he had to readjust quickly when Jordie took the quaffle back only to throw it to Blair instead.

Felix was slowly able to move a little better as the pain from the bludger turned into a dull ache. He picked up the pace but didn’t see the snitch anywhere.

René shifted ever so slightly to one hoop, trying to match Blair's movements before she took her shot.

rule 2a

Leonardo was up in the air as soon as things got started. He spotted the older male chaser, Jordie or something had the ball again and tossed it to the girl but he was closer and managed to intercept it. But he continued towards the hoops.

René nearly missed Leo swooping in until he'd already intercepted Jordie's pass, hurrying to readjust again to try and block him instead.

Lucas kept on looking for the snitch, flying around.

As soon as Leo was close enough he tried to score and was fairly disappointed when it failed, with the keeper catching it with ease. He needed to get better.

Blair failed when Jordie passed her the Quaffle and caught it when it came back into the game after Leo failed to get it through the hoops. Blair hoped that she will do better than boys did.
