Milo cursed as Aroha caught up to where he was trailing the snitch, bumping shoulders as the two of them jostled for position, not quite able to reach it either as they sped across the pitch.
Aroha concentrated hard, the chase was on, but the snitch wasn't making it easy for either of them. She was trying to get close but Milo kept getting in the way. Irritated, she tried to nudge him a bit off course, but it only made her fumble a bit and fall a half metre behind.
Milo grinned as Aroha lost ground, keeping a tight hold of his broom to stay on course. His face fell as the snitch suddenly darted right, banking sharply to try and maintain his slim lead.
Damn Alicia was good, it was hard to begrudge her being on the team over he when she watched her steal the quaffle again, Veronica followed her to the hoops for support suspecting she'd keep the quaffle this time and not blaming her one bit for it.
Aroha gained speed again, a little taken off guard when the snitch darted, and struggling to keep up but maintaining her place in the race nonetheless.
Milo was being sneaky, but Aroha had to keep reminding herself that this was good practice. No way anyone would go easy on her during an actual game. She ducked a bludger and moved forward, trying to pre-empt Milo cutting her off and only succeeding somewhat. If only she could get close to the snitch...
Milo swore as Aroha cut him off, having to take a short dive to avoid going completely off course. His eyes were still on the snitch but he hadn't managed to shake Aroha yet.
Teddy had been distracted watching the seekers race for the snitch that he almost missed the quaffle. He caught it at the last moment and threw it back out to play.
Not wanting to risk Aroha getting there first, Milo took a wide swipe at the snitch, grunting in annoyance as he missed. He needed to slow down and think strategically about this, trying to brute force it clearly wasn't working.
Veronica intercepted the quaffle when it was thrown out by Teddy and immediately took a shot to try and score but it was wide of the hoop she was aiming for.
It felt risky, but Milo purposefully slowed his speed; not enough to let Aroha get too far ahead, but enough to get a better read on how the snitch was moving. If he could guess where it was going to move, maybe he could head it off before Aroha nabbed it.
Milo was thinking furiously, trying to come up with a good way to get Aroha away from the snitch so he had more room to grab it himself. Maybe he could try for a feint? No, that wouldn't work, Aroha could clearly see the snitch they were both tailing just like he could. Dammit.
Milo was about to make a move, sure this would give him the upper hand over Aroha. He'd been so focused he'd forgotten the cardinal rule of playing seeker: Always watch out for the beaters. He swore as his broom spun, scrambling and wincing as he tried to get back on track, lamenting at how much ground he'd just lost to Aroha. Damn you, Santiago.
Aroha grinned as Milo took a hit, figuring maybe she'd get the upperhand. But in her excitement, in looking over at him, she fumbled slightly with her broom, falling behind somewhat of the very arrogantly dancing snitch that flitted back and forth.
Milo was still wheezing a bit, annoyed that he couldn't fully capitalize on it as Aroha fumbled a grab for the snitch. "Miro, make yourself useful and hit her too, aye?" He called to the other beater while rubbing his side, sure he'd never have a chance with Santiago but maybe Miro would help him out.
