Irene Finch had specifically asked for the tables to be left in place for the exam. If the sixth years were going to be licensed, then they would need to possess the ability to work with their surroundings. Apparating across an empty room was convenient for beginners to practice, but the chances of apparating to a truly empty space were going to be slim to none in the real world. There'd be tree filled forests, garbage strewn alleys, and perhaps, when they were lucky, the occasional field or valley. This would be an especially important test for those students who were interested in careers in the Ministry as apparating was a requirement for many of the positions. It was an important skill, allowing independence of movement.

Irene arrived at the castle just in time to greet the students who were waiting just outside the Great Hall. The students were seated on the benches that had been provided to await their turn. "Good afternoon" she greeted, her icy blue eyes taking them in one by one. "In a moment, I'll begin calling you in alphabetically by your last name. Once I do, I'll ask you to apparate to a spot in the room. You will only get one shot. I will not pass you if even a hair, button, or shoelace remains where you once stood." Irene's gaze drifted by several students. Irene let them sit with that for a moment, wanting it to be clear because she hated the annoying begging for another chance that came when a student failed. She looked at their faces, wondering which ones she would be seeing in the courses that were provided by the Ministry throughout the year. Many people failed the exam on their first try, but the woman did nothing to reassure the students of this fact.

Stepping back into the room, where her clipboard was already charmed to take notes, Irene looked to be sure all was in order and then glanced at the list and called the first student forward. Once the student was inside, Irene shut the door tightly and began the exam.

Out of Character:
Roleplay your character's attempt to apparate to a point in the room. Don't forget that the Great Hall would look as it would on a regular day minus the students. :p

You will get an exam grade of A or T depending on whether you roleplay your character succeeding or failing. Extra credit will be given for the level of detail in your roleplay regardless of passing or failing. Feel free to godmod Irene if it is necessary to your roleplay. If you have any questions, PM me. No replies will be accepted beyond Wednesday, the end of exam period!

It was the exams day. Apparition was the one quite difficult to prepare for. For one reason, they could not practice it outside the class since they were not allowed to apparate within the Hogwarts grounds and in the castle itself. Noelle took a deep breath as he waited for his turn. They all stood outside of the great hall while one by one they entered to take the test. He could not help but pace in circles to steady his nerves. He almost jumped out of his skin when he was called first. He entered the hall and expected for some sort of obstacle course but was surprised that the Great Hall looked the way it was on normal days sans the students.
Prof. Finch gave the instructions and he was signaled to start. He was instructed to apparate to the staff table, just behind the headmistress' chair. Taking a deep breath, he took a small forward and with a pop, he rematerialized behind a chair. He quickly checked if it was the correct chair before checking his body from head to toe to check if he had any splinching that were not that painful but could cost him his mark. The Puff glanced over at the woman who was also checking the spot where he previously stood, probably to check for anything, even a strand of hair or eyebrow, that was left. Writing something on her clipboard, Prof. Finch nodded at him which indicated he was done and could leave the hall. He thanked the professor and quietly left the room.

If there was one exam she was feeling pretty nervous for it was apparition. There was so much riding on it and Mazikeen didn’t want to have to take the test multiple times. She wanted to get it now. The gryffindor was in amongst the rest of her year as they waited to be called forth. She knew that the exam length would vary from person to person but with Roe as a surname she knew she’d be fairly down that list. She watched nervous as the teacher who would also be their examiner stepped out of the hall and gave them a few words before bringing the first person in. She knew she could apparate, she’d done it in the last two lessons so she’d only fail if she didn’t focus. The gryffindor waited nervous as student after student went into the hall and either passed or failed the exam. No one was dragged out on a stretcher so at least no accidents, and Maze really hoped she wouldn’t be the one to have one. Eventually her name was called, and she headed into the great hall.
Mazikeen stood near to the entrance not venturing too far in. She looked towards the teacher who gave her her specific instructions, where she need to go in this room and then took a moment to really look at the hall. She was a bit thrown by the furniture in the room, she’d heard others talking about after they’d left the exam, but she hadn’t though much of it. She had never apparated with obstacles in the way, it felt a little nerve wracking to suddenly have to go through so much. But, if everyone else could do it then so could she. She cleared her mind, letting the negative thoughts clear from her mind as she focused on where she was supposed to apparate to. She’d done the reading, she knew the three D’s. She knew where she wanted to go and she was concentrating. Not unlike the first time Maze had apparated, it didn’t seem to move that quickly. She was having to take a little longer to really focus and then in the blink of an eye and a sharp crack in the air she was across the room. She had managed it and it seemed that she had everything still where it should be.

Derek was very eager to get started on the apparition exam, he knew it was a vital step in his magical journey, he had managed in the last two classes of it and he was very eager to get the opportunity to sit the exam. He was confident in his own ability, absolutely sure that he wouldn’t struggle with it and would instead manage just fine. That he would be good at it, he just needed to pass the exam to be able to have this clearly. He was amongst the other students and rather than pacing nervously, Derek was pacing excitedly, a lot of pent up energy that he wanted to focus on the exam. He knew he would come fairly late in the process, but he was just ready to get started and unable to stop himself from moving around like he was as he waited. He stopped briefly as the professor spoke and then the exams god started. He wished Athena good luck in it but was mostly pacing and bouncing on the balls of his feet. He was pretty happy when at long last his name was called.
Derek more or less bounced his way into the great hall, way too much pent up energy over this. He’d certainly never bounced into the defence against the dark arts exams. But he took a moment once in the room to settle himself. He listened to the instructions by the professor and then took a few deep breaths. It seemed rather easy to push aside so many of the emotions to just focus, after all, the weight of the exam and what passing would mean was something he deeply understood. The slytherin looked to where he was supposed to go, he took a few deep breaths and let his mind think about only that. He knew the steps he needed to get this right, what mental state he was supposed to be in to be able to get this. He felt the little tug and then leaned in. It had once again happened pretty quickly and though the room was a little different this time around it had been of no trouble to put that out of his mind. He was across the room, to where she’d told him to go in a quick crack. He looked back at where he had been and then over himself, just making sure he had everything.

Analei could not wait to do this exam. She knew it was a difficult thing to do, but most accomplished witches and wizards knew how to do it, and there was no way she was going to fail. Although she had a lot going on, and a lot to study for, her animagus training had done wonders to help her with her focus and determination. Although she couldn't practice apparating outside of the few classes they had had, she had done her research and had definitely practiced her focus.
Analei stood with the rest of the Sixth Years, waiting excitedly for her turn. She watched the people in front of her go, but tried to not get too distracted by them. It wasn't long until her name was called. This time, there were obstacles in the way. But that was okay. Analei knew she could do this. She looked at the spot that she had been allocated, focusing, taking a deep breath and tuning out the rest of the room. After a few moments, Analei heard the pop, had a few seconds of black and she felt the tightness that came with apparating. In a moment, it was over and with clarity again, she saw she had landed in the correct spot. She breathed a sigh of relief, looking at Finch as the lady made sure everything was still there. With a grin at her okay, Analei waited and watched the rest of her peers. She couldn't believe she had done it!

Emilia was terrified about the apparition exam, and hadn't slept well last night. She had managed to apparate in the lesson, but only the last one. What if she forgot it now? Or wasn't precise enough? She headed to the great hall along with her felloew Hufflepuffs, even more nervous at the sight of the intimidating Ministry lady. Shet old them they would be going alphabetically by last name, which meant Emilia would probably he somewhere in the middle. She stayed near Analei and Acacia, anxiously waiting for her turn. Both her friends went before her, and before long Emilia was waiting nervously by herself, staying away from her classmates.

Then it was her name that was called, and Emilia made her way into the great hall with trembling hands. She listened to the instructions, and nodded as the teacher told her to apparate to a spot near the Hufflepuff table. Emilia took a deep, steadying breath, then closed her eyes and focused the same way she had in the lesson. When she opened her eyes again, she was in the spot she had been pointed at. She checked herself for all her buttons, and touched her braid to make sure no chunks of hair were missing. But it seemed like she had done it, completely. Emilia sighed in relief, happy when she left the great hall.

Diana felt a little nervous, but also excited for today's exam. She didn't show any of her nerves as she headed to the great hall, a confident smirk on her face. She crossed her arms and listened as Miss Finch told them about the proceedings, looking at the woman coolly. She knew some students were intimidated by her, but she definitely wasn't. She eyed the other students, sending Jacob a smirk. She hoped he would fail, that would just be hilarious.

But Diana's name was called first, and she walked into the great hall with her shoulders back. Miss Finch told her to apparate to a spot near the Gryffindor table, and Diana focused the same way she had in the lesson. She focused on the three D's, repeating them in her mind over and over. Soon, the familiar sensation took her over, and she was pleased when she reappeared at the right spot fairly quickly. Diana hadn't expected anything else, and simply gave the Ministry woman a smile before walking out. She had aced it, she was sure. She couldn't wait to tell Rose she had passed, never letting her sister forget she had failed back when she had been in her sixth year.

Katy wasn't sure why she'd expected them to clear the Great Hall for their exam. Probably some lingering fear of seeing someone accidentally apparate themselves into the middle of the Gryffindor table. She sat on the benches as she waited for name to be called, trying not to dwell on that mental image or the thought of how strict their examiner was going to be. Would they really notice if she was missing a few hairs?

Katy's name was called before too long, though she was calmer now, grateful for being about the middle of the pack with her last name. She nodded swiftly as she was given her target, apparating over by the staff table. She'd looked at the spot often enough, this would be easy. She was a natural, meant to do this, Katy assured herself, taking a few deep breaths and trying to remember her three D's. It wasn't even that far, she could do this. Staring intently at the spot, Katy clenched her eyes shut, willing herself there. She felt her ears pop before she felt that tug, willing herself to that very spot she'd just nearly burnt into her eyeballs staring before she felt herself shift. Opening her eyes and taking a deep breath, Katy let out a laugh of delight, tripping over her own feet as she looked around, finding herself over by the staff table. She was maybe half a foot off where she'd been staring, but she was still definitely within the area the examiner had indicated, so Katy wasn't going to tell anyone.

Acacia had never been hype for an exam before. It was a weird feeling. Though she didn't especially relish the prospect of trying to drag up everything she had learned in Muggle Studies this year, the apparition exam was actually kind of thrilling. It was going to be fun to actually do something, and the prospect of getting a license to apparate was beyond exciting. Finally, Acacia was going to be really, properly self sufficient.

Waiting outside the Great Hall for her turn, Acacia's heart leaped as she was finally called. Relieved yet again at how early in the alphabet her surname came, Acacia bounced into the Great Hall, listening seriously to the Ministry lady's instructions. Just apparate from here to behind the teachers table. Easy, she could do that. Nothing to think about but the three Ds. Closing her eyes, Acacia chased the same calm focus she had felt during the lessons, and after a few moments, to her relief she felt a familiar pull towards her destination. Relaxing at once, Acacia followed the feeling, and when she opened her eyes, she stood exactly behind Professor Carter's chair, where she had hoped to wind up. Checking herself over, Acacia quickly ascertained that there wasn't so much as a braid out of place. She had done it! Beaming with joy, Acacia thanked the ministry lady as she left the room, overwhelmed with relief. That apparition license and all the freedom it entailed was hers!

Willow entered the entrance hall. this exam was a big one. unlike other classes where they could practice or study there was nothing outside of the three classes that they had taken to learn apparition. she took a seat and sipped on a bottle of water she had hoping that it would calm her down and cool her nerves. She was lucky she was even allowed to take the exam today. even if she passed she wouldn't be able to apparate until august as she was not yet of age. She really was looking forward to the holidays. getting to see ivy and having her birthday where she could use magic outside of school. She looked up as the door to the hall opened she listened quietly as ms finch explained what was going on. she took a deep breath. especially on the point that even if a single hair was left behind she would fail. did the lady not know what it was like to be a girl. the girls in her dorm were always complaining when they found green hairs or orange or yellow lying about. how much would it suck to fail the apparition exam because of a couple of hairs that were due to fall out anyway? "Good luck she muttered to whoever was near her once the doors had closed and they were left to wait.
As she waited she ran her hands through her hair hoping to remove anything that was loose while she ran through the three D's in her head and wished her hair was longer so she could tie it up. She wasn't waiting long. with a name like Cullen, there were only a handful of people before her. her name was called and she got up the ball of hair she had collected was tangled in her fingers. she looked around for somewhere to put it before stuffing it into her pocket. she listened as the lady pointed towards a place setting at the Slytherin table and asked her apparate to just behind it. she took a deep breath then exhaled. she had heard somewhere that it was easier to apparate if you exhaled. or was it inhaled? she breathed again looking at the spot before closing her eyes breathing out and stepping feeling the pressure of the move. she opened her eyes and looked around a little disoriented she was in the right spot and a quick look at her hands and then a run of them over her face and head showed that she seemed to have made it complete at least other than the fact she was in the right spot but facing a different direction than she had expected. not that she would say that. She looked at the lady. who was examining where she had been standing before looking up and nodded acknowledgement of her work and gesturing for her to leave. her heart skipped a beat. in relief before she made her way out of the great hall.[/B]

Zennon really didn't know how he was feeling about apparation. For the most part, he didn't like the way it made him feel since he always felt sick whenever he did try. He didn't think it was a mode of transport he would use very often, but he knew he wanted to try because he definitely wanted to pass the class even if he would never use it again because it made him feel sick a lot. Still, he walked into the Great hall and looked around. They had been made to wait outside until they were called, Zennon was one of the first of course, not surprising with his name starting with B. He didn't want to do this, he was terrified he was going to leave a body part behind or something. He knew he shouldn't think about it because that would be what would cause him to fail he knew but he couldn't help himself. He tried to stop and focus on the matter at hand, which was apparating and actually getting it correct. He looked at the facilitator, Ms Finch and waited for further instruction. Then, he got into position and closed his eyes. There were a lot of obstacles here he could easily splinch himself with. He just hoped he wouldn't because it was not something he really wanted to have to deal with. He closed his eyes, visualising the area he wanted to apparate too. He could already feel his stomach roiling in anticipation. He took a deep breath, remembering the three Ds, determination, destination and deliberation before taking a step and suddenly feeling like his insides were his outsides and he opened his eyes to see he was halfway along across the room. His stomach was in knots and he immediately heaved into a bucket that had appeared courtesy of Ms Finch he assumed. Merlin he would never get used to that. He straightened himself up, looking more green than normal as he picked up his bucket and headed immediately to the hospital wing looking at no one as he walked.

Sam was feeling very nervous about her apparition exam. She couldn't disappoint her father, or the examiner, she just wouldn’t. This entire year she had done really well, had worked so hard, and she wanted to do this exam just as well if not better. But more than that, Sam wanted the freedom that apparition would allow her to have. Hopefully, when her name was called and she was in the room doing her exam she could feel more confident. The nervousness didn't ease as one by one each student entered, and left after some time. Slowly, they were nearing the Ms. She only had one shot. One chance. She took a deep breath when her name was called and followed the woman from the Ministry into the room. Of course, the great hall wasn't set up like the previous lessons, which made it slightly more difficult though the girl didn't want to doubt herself right now. Wrong time and place to do so.
She listened very carefully to the instructions, and when she was ready she nodded once to the older woman to signal she was going to try apparating. She closed her eyes, clearing her mind, as much as possible. Then, she imagined everything - the three Ds were repeating in her head over and over, and each time her thoughts grew stronger and clearer. After a few minutes, Sam felt the world spin. When she opened her eyes again, slowly, the dizziness began to fade and she had to blink a couple of times to gather her surroundings. Her mouth opened a little. Mostly in shock, but partly because she was right where she needed to be. Sam didn't know how she had done or whether she had passed, but she had still done it, she had apparated where she had been asked to. That was what mattered right now. Sam thanked the woman with a polite smile before she left the great hall, feeling very relieved that she hadn’t splinched herself.

Kira was not ready for this, not at all. She took a deep breath, following the rest of the students in. She was glad for once she was once of the very last to take the test, as it gave her time to settle the beating of her heart. Jason and Damien did this all the time, it couldn't be so hard, could it? She swallowed nervously when it was her turn, glad that most of the room had emptied. She took a deep breath, focusing on her assigned location.

She repeated the three D's to herself, relaxing as she cleared her mind. She leaned forward a little, stomach twisting as she apparated. She opened her eyes, relieved and pleased to see herself where she was supposed to be. She stood strong for several moments, taking a few breaths, before her knees buckled and she stumbled a little into a nearby table. She thanked Ms. Finch, holding her uneasy stomach and making her way carefully from the room. She was probably going to hurl, but she would rather do it away from the stern eyes of their instructor.

Sapphire was hardly worried about her exam, stretching as she made her way into the room. She waited patiently, watching with a worried look as Zennon ran out. Did he really think no one would see that? She would have to check on him later. For now, though, she had an exam to take. She sighed, moving to the front of the line. Alright, her turn. She took stock of the place she was assigned, rolling her neck and cracking her knuckles. She smirked, completely confident. She shut her eyes, focusing. With a soft pop she reappeared exactly where she was told to, though her hair was disheveled with the effort. She stuck her hands in her pockets, giving the instructor an impish grin before sauntering away.

Maggy was glad Acacia was there while they waited outside the Great Hall. Although she opted to not talk to her girlfriend much so they could both focus as this was do or fail. She couldn't believe the semester had gone by so quickly. She really hoped she passed, it'd make visiting so much easier over the summer to her friends and other places she might want to go as a young witch adult. Waiting for her turn Maggy focused her thoughts on the three D's as well as the feeling of apparition. She didn't want anything to take her by surprise and was glad she had practiced quite a few times at the end of the last lesson. Knowing she couldn't leave a single hair behind or anything of the sort, Maggy opted to throw her hair up into a bun as neat as she manage hoping that having it all contained would make things go better. She took her pocket mirror out of her bag to check how she looked, wanting to be able to picture herself as clearly as she could manage.

Then it was her turn and Maggy put her mirror away and headed into the Great Hall leaving her bag at the door. Their teach Irene Finch asked her stand at a certain spot near the entrance and apparate to be standing on the Ravenclaw table about halfway down the hall. She let herself smile a little fighting back a giggle thinking about the people who would have to eat their later today, hoping her shoes weren't that dirty before gathering her thoughts back up on her task. She nodded her head accepted her task and looked over at the table for a moment before closing her eyes. Maggy knew she couldn't take all day and that being able to pop in and out were a vital part of this bit of magic she was being tested on. She could feel that determination run from her mind down to her toes and she willed herself to appear on the table next to the empty fruit bowl as she was told to do in the next second. She felt a familiar pull at this point now and after a second a loud popping noise in her ear and when Maggy opened her eyes she was standing on the Ravenclaw table her angle having been turned so she'd still be facing the teacher and with a smile on her face. She waited as the teacher inspected where she had left and gone to for any trances of, well, herself before finally being dismissed. She could her the scribbled of notes being written down on by the teacher as she left feeling victorious. She glanced at the starting point and didn't see even a single hair shining on the floor.

Jacob was familiar with this feeling. It was the same feeling he got on game days, that mixture of nerves and excitement and possibility. Jacob hadn't been able to sleep well. Passing this exam would be just the first step in his becoming an adult. His birthday later in the year would be the next, and he hoped that come his birthday he'd be able to apparate as he pleased. He needed to be able to. Standing around with his year mates, Jacob was his usual brash self, jumping from group to group and catching up with some friends. It was his way of keeping his mind off of things. He didn't even stop to think that his loud conversations and boisterous behavior might be annoying to some. As the woman exited the Great Hall, Jacob shut up and listened. He glanced around at his classmates, knowing that most of his friends would be done with their exams and gone before he was even called.

And the numbers slowly dwindled, students entering the classroom and then the next being called and so on and so on. Jacob knew when he was going to be next. He stood, bouncing slightly in his anxiety. And then he was called and he moved forward into the empty Great Hall. Jacob had half expected it to be empty as it had been when they'd practiced but it wasn't. He listened as the instructor instructed him to apparate to the Slytherin table. Jacob took a deep breath and let it out with a heavy sigh. The three Ds. Destination - the Slytherin table. Determination. Deliberation. Jacob paused, wondering if it was meant to be the other way around and panicked for a moment before taking another breath. He needed his body to get to that Slytherin table, pushed everything out of his mind but then and then gave a small spin. He could feel it working before he completed his spin, that familiar feeling of being squeezed and then he was suddenly in a new place, having apparated with a crack to the head of the Slytherin table where he'd been ordered to go. Jacob knew he'd done it then and didn't bother to check himself. Instead, he grinned as he waited for the woman to declare him as having successfully completed it. When she did, Jacob nodded and then headed out, full of glee. He couldn't wait to tell his parents!
