Apparition Exam

Irene Finch had specifically asked for the tables to be left in place for the exam. If the sixth years were going to be licensed, then they would need to possess the ability to work with their surroundings. Apparating across an empty room was convenient for beginners to practice, but the chances of apparating to a truly empty space were going to be slim to none in the real world. There'd be tree filled forests, garbage strewn alleys, and perhaps, when they were lucky, the occasional field or valley. This would be an especially important test for those students who were interested in careers in the Ministry as apparating was a requirement for many of the positions. It was an important skill, allowing independence of movement.

Irene arrived at the castle just in time to greet the students who were waiting just outside the Great Hall. The students were seated on the benches that had been provided to await their turn. "Good afternoon" she greeted, her icy blue eyes taking them in one by one. "In a moment, I'll begin calling you in alphabetically by your last name. Once I do, I'll ask you to apparate to a spot in the room. You will only get one shot. I will not pass you if even a hair, button, or shoelace remains where you once stood." Irene's gaze drifted by several students. Irene let them sit with that for a moment, wanting it to be clear because she hated the annoying begging for another chance that came when a student failed. She looked at their faces, wondering which ones she would be seeing in the courses that were provided by the Ministry throughout the year. Many people failed the exam on their first try, but the woman did nothing to reassure the students of this fact. It had been an interesting semester of lessons with this group, so she wasn't sure how successful they would be.

Stepping back into the room, where her clipboard was already charmed to take notes, Irene looked to be sure all was in order and then glanced at the list and called the first student forward. Once the student was inside, Irene shut the door tightly and began the exam.

Roleplay your character's attempt to apparate to a point in the room, you can godmod where Irene directed them. Don't forget that the Great Hall would look as it would on a regular day minus the students. :pYou will get an exam grade of A or T depending on whether you roleplay your character succeeding or failing. Extra credit will be given for the level of detail in your roleplay regardless of passing or failing. Feel free to godmod Irene if it is necessary to your roleplay. If you have any questions, message me. No replies will be accepted beyond Wednesday, the end of exam period!

The exam which Leo felt the most nervous for was upon him. Apparition was just something that he wanted to be able to do, something which would make his life a little simpler and easier. He wouldn't have to rely on James or Jordie for anything. He was waiting for his turn, patiently trying to stop his leg from bouncing under him, and trying to just keep calm. People were in and out pretty quickly, it wasn't long exam at least. He had paid attention to what the teacher had said, but he didn't want to fail. Leo's turn eventually came and he stepped forward and into the great hall.

Leonardo tried to not be too thrown by the fact that the great hall wasn't empty as it had been in the times before, but he knew that he would need to be able to do it with things in the way. He would travelling more than just the short distances when it came to it. Leo glanced at the woman and then to where he was told to go. It was the complete opposite side of the room, far from where he was. He focused, remembering the three D's and then letting much more of it fade from his mind and focused only on where he needed to go. It took a short moment but he felt the tug and was pulled to other side of the room with a crack. There didn't appear to be anything missing from him, so he felt positive that he might've managed to do it.

Seamus was ready to do this exam. He had been ready since the first lesson, and ready to just get to it now. There was nothing about this that he wasn't just ready for. Once he could apparate, that would just make everything better and easier. It just didn't help him that he was going to one of the last to sit the exam, and even be after his twin. Seamus nodded at what the woman said, but just had to wait around for what felt like way too long, before he was able to do it.

Seamus flashed his brother a quick smile before heading in. He ignored everything else and just focused on the teach, the examiner. He nodded as she told him where to go, and immediately began focusing his mind and using all they'd learnt to be able to go to that spot. Where he had in lessons struggled a little, this was no struggle at all. In a few moments he felt the tug and then was across the room. He was very pleased with himself, with it. He waited to get the all clear before proudly heading out of the hall.

Brevity was intending to move out, when this year concluded that would be the last she saw her family. It would certainly help if she managed to get her apparition. She had of course been working hard for it, more than for anything else. She hadn't worked hard on her classes or anything since she'd been old enough to realise it was pointless. But this, this mattered. This was important or she'd be stuck and unable to do it, until she tried again, and though there were likely opportunities, who knew when those would actually be.

Brevity was one of the first people called forward. She stepped forward and into the hall, and then glanced at the woman. Brevity felt confident about it, she had managed it in lessons and knew this would be no different, nothing would distract her from her goal. She nodded at where she was to go and focused her attention on it. She knew what to do, how to focus her mind and then was transported to that spot with a snap. Brevity glanced, feeling good, that nothing had been left behind and felt pretty sure that it meant she had passed.

Felix was feeling a little nervous about the apparition exam but mostly he just wanted to get it over with. He was still a little shaken by one of his classmates getting splinched but he was confident in his skills. He was still feeling particularly impatient as he waited outside the great hall waiting his turn with everyone else. He had too much nervous energy to spare so he ended up pacing up and down the entrance hall once Ms. Finch had greeted them and gone inside to test them all one at a time. Thankfully Felix didn’t have to wait too long after all with a last name so high up in the alphabet. He flinched when his name was called and he quickly went inside.

He smiled tightly to the instructor and spotted the location marker he was supposed to apparate to. It was about half way across the great hall and his view was slightly obscured by the tables which made him a little nervous. Felix pulled out his wand and took a few deep and steadying breaths, something he was very good at by now. He repeated the three D’s a few times and envisioned exactly where he was going. A second later he could feel the sensation of pulling and he eagerly leaned into it and after a brief uncomfortable moment he was himself again, and all in one piece. He let out an excited shaky breath and tossed up a double thumbs up to Ms. Finch before heading out so the next student could go. He felt a weight off his shoulders as he got on with his day.

Gwen wasn't that nervous for the apparition exam. So far, she had done well in the lessons. She was confident she would do well at the exam too. She waited with her classmates outside the great hall, watching as they got called up one by one. She hoped that stupid Brevity would fail, but she had no way of knowing. When it was her turn, Gwen got up calmly and walked over to the great hall with no hesitation. To her surprise, the hall looked like it always did. Gwen had once again minimized the risk of leaving anything behind by not wearing many accessories. She was confident, but there was no reason to take unnecessary risk. The door shut behind her, and Gwen looked at Irene. She was told to apparate over to the other end of the great hall, where the staff table stood. Gwen closed her eyes to focus, and after a beat, she was there. She looked down at herself, making sure all her buttons were there and there were still laces in her shoes. She smiled, confident she had done it.

Jingyi was feeling confident about the apparition exam. He hadn't gotten himself splinched or anything, and the practice lessons had gone quite well as well. So, this was going to be easy enough, he was sure. Having to wait outside for his name was the worst part, thankfully, he didn't have to wait for very long before he lifted his chin and marched into the Great Hall. It was a little surprising to see it all set out like normal, nothing pushed to the side or out of the way. But Jingyi supposed he shouldn't be surprised, not worried about it in the slightest. This was still going to be easy. He focused on where he was supposed to be going, letting out a deep breath and concentrating on the three D's just like they had been taught. This was no different from the other times, he could do this. Squeezing his eyes just a little he kept the image of his destination in his head, feeling the tug as he stepped into it. Then, with a crack, he vanished from one end of the room, appearing a moment later right where he had been directed to. And, with a quick glance down to make sure everything was still in place, he grinned, shoving his hands into his pockets and confident that he had passed first try.

Renata had to just believe she could do this. She had managed it in practice, but it had taken her a few goes to get it perfectly. She didn't have the luxury of multiple attempts this time, she had to get it in one. But she had done it, so she just had to do it again. Even if the course was a little harder, with the tables left in place. She was fairly late in the order, as S was a fair way down the list, which unfortunately meant there was more time for the butterflies in her stomach to multiply and make her feel more and more nervous. All she could do was take deep, slow breaths, and remember the three Ds, and remember exactly what she'd done to hit the target correctly last time.

Eventually her turn came up, and Renata gave the instructor a small, shaky smile as she took her position. She knew that Ms Finch didn't like time wasting, and she didn't want to make this go any longer than it needed to be, but she took a moment to take in the room, remember exactly where she needed to go. She closed her eyes, thinking carefully on where she wanted to be, and let herself be pulled with a loud crack. She opened her eyes, looking down to see she was exactly on the red X, and moved her hands to make sure her hair was still in place - and that she still had arms, even. She had done it, it seemed, and she gave a small laugh of utter relief. She thanked Ms Finch politely before moving on, letting the next person take their turn.

Sky made her way to the entrance hall. Today was going to be her final apperation exam. She was feeling slightly reassured that she had been successful last lesson. Even of she had needed eight attempts and even if she did mis judge her landing. She was feeling well and she had recovered. She saw her classmates sitting in the hall she joined them and it wasn’t long until they were informed that they would be taking the exam one at a time. She found herself a quiet area I. The corner of the room calming herself and repeating the theee d’s and painting herself a bubble around her like oil paint. She didn’t have long to focus. With the last name eriksen she was near the start of the list.
Her name was called and she entered the hall. It reminded her of early morning. If you were the first one down to breakfast. Everything sitting there silently. She took a breath and another and another and another. She needed to go she couldn’t just freeze. She took her wand and focussed on the big cross at the end of the hall. She took one last deep breath and pictured herself stepping towards it. She felt it before she saw it a twist in her stomach as though there was one more stair than expected. And the world flights black for a second. Then the pressure was gone and she looked around the world seemed closer. She looked around and she was their feet firmly on the cross. She checked and could feel each of her limbs and fingers and toes. She looked up at the assessed and could t help but smile and let out a small woop As she ran her hand through her hair. Even that all felt there. She nodded at the ministry witch before she left the room glad to have succeeded harm free with a hopeful of pass.

Eston was as ready as he would ever be for the appariation exam. Of course, he only had two actual lessons to practice, but he had put a lot of effort into the last lesson, practicing multiple times, getting it right before he felt comfortable to leave. He hoped that was enough. The Gryffindor boy took his seat outside of the Great Hall. Apparently, they were going in individually. It made sense, but it didn't help much that the boy was impatient. He sat there tapping his fingers to a song that was stuck in his head. He hummed to himself as he waited and waited and waited. The last name Spencer took awhile to get to.

Eventually, the professor called him in. He was a little surprised that the Great Hall was full of the tables and well everything. This was definitely different. He wished the professor had given them time to practice in this situation, but she had a more of a fend for yourself attitude. Eston would manage. He listened as the professor directed him to appariate to a spot near the Staff table. Eston looked at the spot. He pretended that there was a x there. That would help. He focused on the three D's in his mind.

Eston closed his eyes. He pictured the spot in his mind. He focused as hard as he could, which was more than he normally had to for basically anything else in his life. Then that familiar feeling in his stomach occurred. He felt like he was on a roller coaster. He opened his eyes when the feeling subsided. There he was, on his imaginary X. He had landed right where the professor had told him to. He stood there for a while longer, composing himself but also showing the professor that he had succeeded. He was soon dismissed. He left the Great Hall, thinking that it was enough to pass, hoping that it was. He had to be able to appariate like everyone else in his family.

Evie didn't know how to feel about it already being their last apparition lesson. She had enjoyed the class and was just excited to get her license and be able to apparate like everyone else in her family. She knew she had to turn up to the exam with a positive mindset, so pushed everything bad out of her mind, entering the great hall with a smile beaming on her face. As the Ministry lady spoke, she listened, and took a deep breath as she waited for her name to be called. It didn't take long before it was, and Evie had to step up in front of the professor so she could attempt to apparate to another part of the room. She closed her eyes, clearing her mind of everything except for the Three D's that she remembered from the very first lesson. She could do it, it was very easy, and she'd be very ashamed if she couldn't. It was practically impossible for her not to be able to do it. Eventually, Evie opened her eyes, cheering when she realised she had done it successfully without leaving anything behind. She happily left when she was dismissed.

Akihiro was prepared for this, for this final test. He had no worries about his capabilities. He made sure he looked nice before he walked down to the exam. Just because he wasn't as superficial anymore didn't mean he didn't want to be put together. He straightened his tie as he walked in with the others. This was the real test, wasn't it? Everything looked the same. He focused on his breathing, keeping his mind clear. He walked forward when it was his turn, and without hesitation he apparated across the room, smirking a bit to himself when he landed exactly where he wanted to. He really had mastered this. He checked himself over subtly, pleased to see everything in place. His exam finished, he ran a hand over his hair and headed back out again.

Hamish was feeling almost non-chalant as he headed down to the apparition exam. He knew there'd been a splinching this year- one of the Huang twins, he thought, though he forgot which one. But that hardly seemed to be too much of an issue. He stood with the others as they all settled into the Great Hall. He had no trouble when it came to his turn- apparating to the other end of the room with everything all in place. Well, his glasses were a little crooked, but he was in one piece. He moved back to his brother and followed the boy out, debating on a snack to celebrate their success.

Maisie didn't really need to apparate, in the grand scheme of things. But she liked the thought of being a bit more independent. Besides, it might help Brevity if Maisie could apparate. So she skipped down to the great hall, humming happily and swinging her hands. She skipped in next to Brevity, giving her an easy smile. When it was her turn, she took a few moments to gather her wits and took a deep breath before launcing herself across the room. She giggled a bit as she landed, stumbling a bit, but she was all in one piece and she'd landed where she wanted to. She hummed, skipping back to Brevity and following her girlfriend out, linking their arms and chattering idly about anything that crossed her mind.

Xinyi was feeling nervous about this exam. True, he'd managed the last lesson alright, but he supposed it would be a long while before he managed to ever get over that little bit of nerves when he wanted to apparate. He hesitated near the back of the class, his arms folded behind his back. He hesitated a moment when it was his turn, but he did it anyway. Apparated across the room, stumbling as he landed. But he was in one piece, and thankfully it was enough for him. He hoped it was, because his nerves were shot. He hurried after Jingyi, hoping his brother wouldn't mind if Xinyi was a little bit clingy for a few hours.
