Adorah had never been one for dueling. She still struggled to process how she had let herself be recruited to help proctor, but here she was, trying out new things since Noel was gone for the year. The professor stood near the platform as she looked at the two young duelers and gave them a soft smile. "One of you go to that side and the other over here. You'll bow and then start. The person who wins will advance to the next round. Begin!" she said, making sure she was out of the direct line of spells - hopefully.

OOCOut of Character:
The duel begins now. You have 24 hours from this to post your first reply, or face disqualification. Once both duelists have posted, you will have 24 hours from your opponent's post to reply, or be disqualified. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. Please also remember site rules apply, including power/god modding. You can find the site rules here. Duels will run until there is a winner or until 6 IRL days have passed, in which case the winner will be chosen by RNG. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!

Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitor's post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels. Duelers cannot cast spells at the spectators or face disqualification.

Amory felt ready to take on the duels this year again. Last year he'd lost but if he was being honest his loss was the fault of the platforms not his... His first opponent of the day was Ruth, coincidentally the one he'd also lost to. Bowing at the girl he grinned. "A rematch? That's nice, was hoping we'd get one. I promise to lay off the creepiness this year." In his pinion he and Ruth were now friends, she'd helped him in the water balloon fight after all. "Stupefy!"

In all honesty, Ruth had considered not even entering the tournament. She'd won last year (well half won, really) and now felt a sort of pressure to succeed. She hated expectation. It meant she couldn't slack off as she'd have much rather done. They could all look at Cyrus instead, then, because he was the golden boy. But here she was, and she just had to try not to let people down.

Ruth really wished she could just focus on entertaining rather than actually winning.

"Are you still gonna flirt with me, though?" She teased, putting on her best smile. "Maybe you've gotten more charming since last time." She quickly blocked the spell, and responded with an antler jinx. That would be charming...perhaps just not in the way she'd meant, though.

Amory was glad to see Ruth respond to him in a playful manner though he just grinned at her. "out of luck today Thorne, I fear all my flirting is reserved to a Gryffindor until further notice." He wasn't about to go flirting around nor get a whole gang of Edogawa's and some Nightray's on his tail while at it. As Ruth sent the antler-jinx Amory considered blocking it but considering it was harmless if not just a little funny looking he didn't bother. "Always wondered how I'd look with antlers and how they'd feel, now I know." He shrugged, fully planning on checking them out in the mirror after. Someone best have the spell to remove them though later. Amory cast a Jelly-leg jinx at her in return.

Ruth rolled her eyes. "That's Miss Thorne to you," she retorted, with an over the top shrug and shake of her head. You didn't call a girl by just her surname. He had a lot to learn about etiquette, she thought. Despite having been previously considering how she might act as a heel in the professional performance duelling arena. She was surprised he let the jinx hit, no doubt the antlers would get heavy after a while. Well, it was his head on the line. Quite literally. "Shame. At least now you have a cute look for them. Could use a little more, though." She blocked the spell, and sent a fur growing spell back in return.

Rose couldn't help the giggle that came out when Amory got hit with antlers, she quickly covered her mouth to silence herself, not wanting to distract him from his duel.

Amory returned the gesture, rolling his eyes back at the girl with a grin on his face. Miss Thorne, Thorne same thing, maybe he'd remember next time. Unlikely, but one could still hope. Amory blocked the next spell, not feeling like getting any excess hair growing in the moment. "Oh thanks, think I'll stick with the antlers for now though." He called out before sending a Tarantallegra at her. Maybe she'd do a a little dancey dance?

Ruth was getting carried away trying to toy with Amory instead of winning, and she knew that Cyrus would probably tell her off for it. Leah would have told her to focus too, no doubt. Her focus on watching to see if the horns would weigh him down and turn him into some kind of funny monster rather than just outright win meant her concentration on defending lapsed and she got hit by the spell. Now she couldn't keep a strong stance, which was almost certainly the duel.

Or, at least, it would have been, if Ruth wasn't also a cheerleader.

Sure, it was going to mean she was going to have a harder time keeping her aim steady, but on the other hand, it made her a little harder to hit, too. And now, she thought, she had her gimmick. "One, two, three, four, your spells make the audience snore! Five, six, seven, eight, think you'll beat me? Just you wait!" Now she was in a rhythm, and she threw a cheeky jelly brain jinx at him to punctuate her cheer.

Amory watched as the spell hit Ruth, shrugging as she started dancing. Her words made him chuckle and he blocked the spell easily. "Nice moves!" He called out before choosing his next spell. He sent Slug vomiting curse her way.

Although Ruth couldn't control the dancing enough to stop it, she could keep herself on the platform and work with the rhythm she had. Inadvertent spins didn't really help, but she made the best of what she had. Plus, it had given her some inspiration. She knew in some places duelling was more of a stage show than anything, and honestly she kind of loved that. The pep squad was fun, but the cheers were entirely positive. Now she could be a heel and let loose. "Protego, go, go!" She chanted as she jumped, blocking the spell just in time. "Your duelling sucks, you gotta go! Stupefy, fie, fie! Just give up, don't even try!"

Amory watched as Ruth continued to dance it out, she was making some sort of a performance out of her whole duel with the dance. Not a bad idea honestly. Amory shielded again and gave a chuckle at her taunts and gave a slight shake of his head. "Now where would the fun be in that, Petrificus Totalus!"

Ruth was very much in the rhythm of it, now she was thinking of it more like a performance. She couldn't tell if the crowd was into it, but if they weren't they obviously just didn't know better. "Prooooooooootego!" she cheered with a jump, blocking the next spell with practiced ease. Even if her feet threatened to move out of the arena. Ruth wasn't having it. But she wasn't fussed. The weight of the antlers would get him to slip up eventually. Especially if she teamed it with a quietly muttered jelly legs jinx between her cheers. "Your spells are lame, it's such a shame, there's no way that you'll win this game!"

Amory had sort of forgotten he even had antlers, that was until the weight of them started to slowly strain his neck. He'd have a terrible time with muscle aches later, the strain was a bit distracting. However it wasn't distracting enough when he saw something shoot out of Ruth's wand, not sure what spell it was since she spoke suddenly quietly but he wasn't taking any chances, and he instantly shielded against it. Nope, he wasn't going down that easily. "C'mon you got nothing better than lame insults to throw at me? You wound me with your words!" Amory slapped one hand over his heart as if he'd taken great offense from her words. New's alert, he had not. "Everte Statum!" He cast, it was a good show but perhaps they'd finally get an end to this duel with her flying off the stage mid dance. Though maybe that wouldn't be the most charming thing.

"Protego, woo!" Honestly, Ruth was getting a bit tired. She was in shape and liked dancing, but this did take a lot out of her. Still, she wasn't going to give up so easily. She'd just have to get a big drink of water once she was done. She did another twirl, thinking up another cheer (or jeer, she supposed), to work around the jelly fingers curse she cast. "Amory Raven, what a fool, thinks he's way too cool for school! T-H-O-R-N-E, who's gonna win, that's right, it's me! Let's go Ruth, woo!" She was definitely going to have to prepare some actual material next time, even if it would be that dreaded work.Action(s) Taken: cast spell x2

Amory was nearly snoring at this point. He'd been mocked enough times all throughout his childhood in the children's home that even if he didn't know this was mostly all a performance Ruth's mocks wouldn't even sting a little. "Protego!" He cast staring at Ruth with a slightly amused yet bored gaze. "Seriously you gotta work on your mocking skills, though I doubt they'll win you many duels anyways." He commented, feeling even more strain on his neck before casting a disarming spell, hoping for this mess to be over with quickly.

Ruth rolled her eyes as she dodged the spell by dropping into a split. It was hard when her feet wanted to keep moving, but she'd assert control over her movements as best she could. "I can't say the good ones in front of a professor," she said sweetly, moving back into a crouch and springing up. "It's haaaard to think 'em up on the spot. You're, haa, welcome to try it yourself. Tarentallegra!"

Amory raised his brows at Ruth's question and watched her dodge his spell with a split. Now he would not ever be able to do that one s it was sort of impressive, not that he was admitting that between all the slander he was receiving. "Oh Protego! I think I'll pass this year, did a little dance last year, not too keen on the idea right now at least." Not with these heavy antlers weighing on his head and making his neck cramp. Starting to get a bit of a headache Amory stuck with the more simple spells, casting Petrificus Totalus.

"Come on Amory!" She hadn't meant to shout, but she felt she had to say something.
