Adorah was feeling a little more excited about proctoring the third round of dueling. She waited until the opponents were ready and then gave them a smile. "One of you go to that side and the other over here. You'll bow and then start. Begin!" she said.

OOCOut of Character:
The duel begins now. You have 24 hours from this to post your first reply, or face disqualification. Once both duelists have posted, you will have 24 hours from your opponent's post to reply, or be disqualified. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. Please also remember site rules apply, including power/god modding. You can find the site rules here. Duels will run until there is a winner or until 6 IRL days have passed, in which case the winner will be chosen by RNG. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!

Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitor's post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels. Duelers cannot cast spells at the spectators or face disqualification.

Audrey couldn't believe that she'd finally actually won a duel. Ten had been distracted, but Audrey would still take it. She had a score to settle (again) with Teddy, and this time, she'd definitely get the upper hand. Surely, he couldn't win at everything every time ever, right? It seemed like he could, but that couldn't possibly be the case. "Ah, Teddy, we meet at last," she drawled, trying to sound like a villain from some old movies that Dion had shown her. Audrey knew Teddy could outspeed her, but hopefully his time as keeper had slowed him down some. But to help him along..."Graviatus!"

Teddy stood where Professor Zumwalt told him to and prepared to bow. He still ached a little, but did feel much better than when his dad had stopped him from playing in the Brotherhood vs Heta game. He was 100% certain that the Brotherhood would have won if he'd of played, because Teddy always won, always. You only had to look at the Quidditch results. Or the fact that he’d won every dueling tournament so far.

He was pleasantly surprised to be against Audrey for this final. "Beauchamp! It's good to see you! How did you make it this far? I thought you sucked at dueling?" He teased. He blocked the Graviatus spell, he had heard of it somewhere but wasn't overly familiar with it. "You've been practicing." He commented with a nod then sent a non-verbal stupefy. He could only do a couple of spells non-verbally and this seemed like a good place to practice them.

Audrey rolled her eyes, determined not to be baited by Teddy's goading. Not that that always worked. "I was practicing while you were busy sucking face," she retorted. "Are you even ever doing work in the library or are you just doing-" she was cut off by a silent spell, having to quickly dive out of the way. "Touche. Confundo." She should've expected some non-verbal spells, in all fairness.

Teddy smirked when Audrey was caught off guard by his non-verbal stupefy. He quickly blocked her return, his speed being his strength in a duel. His weakness being an inability to keep his mouth shut. "Sucking fa- Audrey it sounds like you're jealous?" He teased, "When you get a proper boyfriend, one you can actually stand being in the company of, you'll understand that there is way more to it than that." He smirked, casting "Aguamenti" to cool her down.

Audrey shook her head, dramatically sighing. "Oh, Teddy," she lamented, quickly casting an impervious charm on her head to allow the water to be harmlessly repelled off. She'd just have to avoid slipping. Probably should have gone the drought charm, too late now. "You've become so boring, you know?" She followed that up with a silent trip jinx. She hadn't tried it before, but it was a simple enough spell that she was sure she could pull it off, even if it wasn't at full strength.

Teddy didn’t like that one bit. He was too busy thinking about some clever retort that he didn't notice the silent trip jinx until it was too late. He landed hard and painfully on his knee. His wand stayed in hand, but his pride was shattered. His knee was possibly shattered too but he had bigger problems right now. “Boring?” he replied in shock, scrambling upright and rubbing his hurting knee. “You think I’m boring?” His voice cracked, “I’m like the exact opposite of boring!” There would be no more warm up spells and no more playing nice. Teddy was bringing out the big guns, “Incarcerous.” His annoyance helped make it a powerful one.

After last year's duels, Hugo had never wanted to see the duelling chamber again. however that promise hadnt lasted long once theduelling tourniment was announced and teddy had been keen to sign up and defend his title. and hugo had had to face his misgivings and do as a good boyfriend did and go and cheer. he had watched the first round and was pleasedthat teddys year seemed a lot less violent than the people in his year. he was glad teddy had one even igf he had had to reassure him that he would still like him even if he was bald. now after a bye he was back watching the finals. Teddy and Audrey, Best friends against each other. he was pretty sure it was going to be a good match. brutal, but in the way that would be good to watch not violent.
he took his steat and watched as the match started. again duels with a good deal of banter as he had expected. what he hadnt been expecting was to once again be the topic of choice to jibe at ted. he could feel his face warming with embaressment. sure they did kiss a lot. but most of the time in the library at least was actually studying and reading. was his presense reallyputting that much strain on Teddys other relationships. maybe he should sugest they spend a little less time together. but make sure that the time they did spend was good time not just studying. which was admittedly the opposite of what he had asked for at the ball. He smiled as teddys water spell floded half the stage but then flinched as he tripped up thanks to a neat little trip jinx from audry and seemed to hobble slightly on his way up. he was actually almost enjoying watching, well he would be if he wasnt the subject of half the banter.

Oh, thought Audrey, that worked better than expected. Nothing for it but to double down. "You are boring," she insisted, rather petulantly. Everyone here was so boring, she thought. Teddy had long been an exception, but she hardly saw him anymore and he'd settled down to become far less interesting. So had Lucy, really. People with boyfriends and girlfriends were so dull. And were both probably going to just mope next year when they graduated. She countered the incarcerous spell with a careful diffindo, cutting the ropes before they settled around her. He was annoyed, but so was she. "You'll make a great cop one day, Detective Inspector Boring," she taunted, following it with a canary transfiguration hex for his inevitable sqwarking.

“I am not!” Teddy's voice cracked. He stomped his foot too for emphasis but it was the leg he'd just whacked on the platform. It sent a shooting pain through him, "Agh bloody-" He used his good leg to hop out of the way of the hex which skimmed past him. That never happened that he knew something was off. This duel wasn’t going his way, and panic was starting to creep in because Teddy always won. Always. And to make matters worse, he'd just noticed that Hugo was watching!

He tried to disguise the discomfort he had getting back to the central position on his end of the platform, pretending he wasn’t in any pain at all. That would highlight weakness and Teddy wasn't weak. Nor was he boring! “Why would you even say that? You know I want to join the Auror office right?!" He circled back to the boring conversation he was really bothered by. "Obscuro" he cast in a bid to blind Audrey and regain the upper hand.

For once, Audrey knew she had the upper hand, and part of her wanted to start crowing about it already. But she knew she had to be measured. She'd had the upper hand in all those Quidditch games and still lost, after all. She'd really struck a nerve, and a good friend would probably back down and apologise right about now.

Unfortunately, Audrey was Audrey, and she desperately wanted to win.

"Course I know that. You know why? Cause it's the most boring career choice." She was almost too slow in blocking the spell, spending a split second wondering if she could counter it in a more creative way to keep throwing him off, but barely managed to get up a protego in time. Now was not the time for spell theory. Now was the time for spell action. "Everyone with half decent marks thinks they wanna be one. It's like saying 'the only way I can show off my intelligence is becoming a glorified security guard', snore. Thought you were more interesting than that. Guess I was wrong." She punctuated it with a silent stupefy.

Teddy was losing his cool but he still blocked Audrey's stupefy, and that was something. Maybe he could still wrest back the upper hand. A wiser man would’ve shut up and focus on the duel. But Teddy wasn’t a wiser man. He was Teddy, and Teddy never lost anything, including arguments. “Being an auror is cool,” he snapped back, “They hunt down dark wizards. They stop curses and they keep people safe. You think that’s boring? You wouldn't last a day.”

He let out a harsh sigh and shook his head. “Forget it. No point wasting my time trying to get you to understand.” He raised his wand, wanting the duel to end right now. Expelliarmus!” And then he added, “Not that you’d ever pass the background check anyway, not with a con in the family.”

In Audrey's heart of hearts, she knew she should stop. She'd rattled him and should just try and use it to win without further fuss. If that was possible. The universe just seemed to align for Teddy in a way it didn't often seem to for Audrey, and she would have been lying if she said she wasn't at least a tiny bit resentful. "At least curse breaking would be interesting," she muttered, knowing that was a separate thing. "Cause there's so much dark wizardry going on that they're definitely not just bodyguarding the minister and doing paperwork."

She blocked the spell and glared daggers at Teddy with his next comment. Audrey wasn't stupid, she knew Dion was as dodgy as they came, but she loved him all the same. Not that Teddy would ever understand. His family all thought the sun shone out of his backside. Dion was the only ally she had. "So you're so boring now you're going to start judging people on their families? Do you wanna look down on some muggles while you're at it?" Her chest ached, but that didn't stop her. P*** off, Teddy, she thought, bitterly, throwing her weight behind an "Everte Statum!". She nearly slipped on the water shifting her feet, but was too annoyed to let that stop her. Even if she could barely remember why she had been annoyed in the first place.

Teddy was hot with anger that he couldn't get to together to block in time. He side stepped Audrey's spell, annoyed that he never had managed to get back into the flow. He was desperate to win though, to show Audrey that he wasn't boring, that he was the best duelist in their year and he never lost, ever! “Levicorpus!” he shouted quite dramatically. As the spell left his wand, Teddy brewed another before he could stop and think about it. He moved his wand like it was part of levicorpus and sent Expelliarmus non-verbally. The second wave followed so close behind that it could have looked like the tail end of the first spell to an untrained eye. The gut wrenching realisation of what he had done set in almost immediately. "Sh*t" he cursed under his breath. That wasn’t clever or tactical. That was cheating and he knew it.

Audrey was fired up, desperately trying to keep herself in check enough to get through the duel. She knew if she lost focus, she'd lose the match in a heartbeat. But Merlin, she was angry. He'd made it strangely more personal by making a jab at her cousin. Anger took her on a journey she didn't have a map for, and her reasoning got more and more shaky. All she knew was she had to focus on this duel, and she had to win.

Teddy's speed got the better of her, though, and she was lifted in the air by her ankle. She clung to her wand tightly, refusing to let go and let him win. It was a good thing she was wearing tights, she thought, not needing to flash the spectators her underwear. But a second light glanced past her ear. Audrey gasped, tilting her head sideways to stop the blood rushing to her brain, and looked at Teddy with a curious look. "Did you just-" she spluttered. "Ugh, liberacorpus!" She let herself drop, still holding her wand tightly as she slammed to the ground, water splashing around her. She quickly righted herself, jumping back onto her feet and gawping at Teddy. "Teddy, did you just cheat? Merlin's- Can't beat me fairly, is that it?" There was a dull ache in her arm from where she'd landed, but years of playing beater meant she knew how to push through it. "Guess you can be interesting. Expelliarmus." Her voice shook a little, but now she just wanted the match over. If she was about to win, somehow it felt strangely hollow.

Teddy knew the second Audrey gasped that she’d clocked his second illegal spell. She might not have noticed if she'd blocked as it would've been absorbed into the same shield, but either way Teddy would have known, and probably Professor Zumwalt too. But he wasn't looking at her, he was looking at Audrey and her reaction hit him like one of her bludgers, she usually sent one his way in every match.

Teddy was shocked and disappointed in himself most of all. He didn’t even try to shield the disarming spell she sent his way and his wand flew from his hand. “Audrey, I didn’t...” he started, but stopped, because of course he did. He absolutely did and he couldn't lie about it now. He wanted to explain that it hadn’t been premeditated, that it was reckless and if Teddy could go one minute back in time, he never would have cheated. But there were no words except, “I’m sorry,” he said quietly.

hugo continued to watch the duel unfold and he started to realise why he didnt like duels. this was a very different atmosphere than watching last years duels where he was fearing for his and Oz's life. Both Teddy nd Audery were being brutal, but not so much with the spells, but their playful banter at the start of the match, which had been entertaining, was getting more and more personal as the match continued. he wasnt quite sure what he felt about it but he was struggling to align the boy on the stage with his boyfriend. neither of them were being nice. Making low barbs at the kind of weaknesses that only good friends knew to find. proding them open in front of an audience. they were coming awfully lcose to crossing the unspoken lines that went from fun to personal. he wasnt sure who crossed the line first audry making fun of teddys career choice but it was clear tedy ccalling out audreys family was well and truly accross it. it was the same with him and violet. they werent close. they were not shy on that, they made fun of each other and that was okay but if someone else made fun of her it was not. all too soon audry was hanging upside down and teddy was being accused of cheeting. If someone had told him this morning teddy would cheat to win his duel. he wouldnt have elieved them. but now after watching them and seeing his reaction he had trouble believing that it was not true. he just wanted the match to be over.
all too soon, or not soon enough the duel was over with the hollow clattering of teddys wand rolling away he looked at his boyfriend who looked utterly defeated like he had lost far more than just a duel and then at audery the champion who looked almost just as hollow. he just hoped that one duel was going to be the end of a friendship.

Adorah was trying to keep up with the duel when she noticed Teddy send two spells before Audrey could send another. Quickly, she went to call the duel when Audrey disarmed Teddy. "Stop! The duel is done. Mr. Pirrip, 10 points from Gryffindor for breaking the dueling rules and casting two spells at once. Ms. Beauchamp is the winner." Adorah felt a little nervous taking house points from a prefect, as she felt nervous taking house points from anyone, but she knew that it wasn't okay to cheat, whether it was intentional or not.
