Kyon was stoked, ready for school and everything that came with it. He stuck close to his brother, keeping @Avery Lockwood close to him. "Even when we're separated, we're together," He promised. They weren't the first to be called, of course, and he was waiting impatiently. He was the eldest at school now, the first of the next line of Lockwoods here at the school. He was frustrated, annoyed that Avery got to go first. But finally, it was his turn. Kyon strutted up front, taking his seat. He was going to be the king of this school, and he knew it. He smirked as the hat slid over his eyes. Hello, hat. I'm ready to go to Gryffindor now. He greeted, knowing this wouldn't take long.

"Are you now? You seem very sure that this won't take long......Maybe I should just prolong this so you have to wait........okay.....I've had enough...go on then....Gryffindor,"

The Sorting Ceremony took place in an immense hall, appropriately named the Great Hall. There were four long tables that stretched to the staff table at the end. Todd liked the ceiling that was enchanted to look like the night sky, with hundreds of candles suspended in midair illuminating the room.

Safely stood in the middle of the huddle of first years, Todd listened to the headmistress and the Sorting Hat's song and considered the house he wanted. Maybe Hufflepuff he thought, then unhelpfully added maybe Gryffindor, Ravenclaw or Slytherin. He was too indecisive to decide which one he wanted right now since they all sounded interesting.

"Cobbler, Todd." Called the headmistress. Todd shuffled himself out of the huddle toward centre stage where the hat placed on his head. Nerves made his thoughts jump all over the place that he wondered if the Sorting Hat would hear one discernable thought from his head. 'I'm not dim, just taking it all in' He thought at last.

"No one thinks you're dim...in fact where you are about to go, and the people you will be in amongst are supposedly some of the smartest, each in their own way....Ravenclaw,"

Emrys felt like he was in a storybook. A surprise magical inheritance, per say. A castle filled with magic and mystery and wonder. He looked up to the ceiling, more interested in the floating candles than he was the other children. Well, except for Yuelia. She was his only friend. He reached out for her hand, standing silent and still beside her. He turned his attention up front as the hat began to sing, and watched it curiously. Several children were called before he was, and he found it fascinating that the hat seemed to know where they should be.

When he was called, he walked forward. Completely calm, he took his seat, the hat falling over his eyes. There was a mild curiosity, but Emrys wasn't bothered to ask any questions. Hello. Thank you for your work, he offered politely. He didn't really care where the hat placed him. He wondered idly where his mother would have been if she had been magical as well, but as far as he knew he was the first in the family to have magic.

"You are very welcome. Certainly makes a nice change to have a polite greeting...But onto you, there's a love for reading here, one that can't be denied but is not all of who you are so....hufflepuff,"

Crimson was really hyped to be at Hogwarts, she could finally be with her siblings every day. She would meet all of Hunter's friends, try to pry in his love life to see if there's anyone he likes, tell Asteria about that so she can make fun of him, tell their moms about it so they can make fun of him too, have her sister showing her the castle, all the fun stuff.

She was thinking whether if she would like to end up in any of her siblings houses, she had avoided that topic as she wouldn't really like to pick a side so when one of them asked her about that she would often change the subject or answer one of the houses that they didn't belong to. On one side Hufflepuff could be really fun but then Asteria would probably be sad since she would have more things in common with her brother, who isn't blood related. On the the other hand being in Gryffindor would allow her to be with Asteria all the time, but Hunter might be annoyed about that and Asteria wouldn't probably give her much time to hang out with him. Her sister until today had managed to micromanage every aspect of her life, Crimson didn't usually minded this, there was some kind of comfort to this and if she kept her sister happy then her sister would make her life a lot easier. She loved Asteria but sometimes it felt like she didn't let her live her life, usually she didn't mind that but lately it had been sort of annoying.

If the hat could choose Slytherin or Ravenclaw it would be a lot better, not that she would be unhappy in the other houses, it was just that someone else might. She looked for her siblings as she was walking through the room, she found them sitting at their respective tables and she gave each one a big warm smile and an excessive wave, she could have sworn the other kids looked at her like she was a weirdo but she didn't care.

Soon her name was called and suddenly all her worries just vanished, her mind was completely blank.

"Hmm, this is a little tricky..I see lots of little elements of all houses.....Some desire for adventure...some intelligence....some ambition....but hmmm what's that then...okay...yes, I see, better be....Gryffindor,"

Lennox followed the other first year students into the Great Hall. She hated to be in the group, when certainly she knew she should be out in front. She had tried to push her way to the front, only to be pushed back to the place into the mess of students. Certainly, people around here did not know who she was. They would soon find out though. Her family had been coming to this school for years, generations. She was going to make that quite clear, along with the fact that she deserved to be here more than anyone else. That much was obvious.

If she was stuck in this crowd, she might as well look around though. Following in step, Lennox gazed around the Great Hall. It was nicely decorated, but she certainly would not call it great. This school must have a very different definition. At the most, it was a Good Hall. Probably a fire hazard too She thought rolling her eyes. There was just not much to see. Too many students, not even chandeliers. Hopefully the dorms are better The thought crossed her mind. Her last boarding school, she had to have her father pay a contractor to come in and make the living arrangements more suitable. With all this magic here though, Lennox could not believe if the rooms were not even better than that remodeled muggle school.

The Headmistresses, a rather cheery individual, began her speech. Why did professors feel the need to be so chipper? Lennox listened, not hearing anything too important. There were areas that were off limits, but she would not be found in a gross forest anyway. The most interesting part of the ceremony was when the singing hat appeared. Although the song was certainly lame. Facing fears and all that. Lennox doubted school would be a place to face fears anyway. The houses did sound interesting though. Her family had a large group in almost every house, her father being a Ravenclaw, her mother a Slytherin. Most of her aunts, uncles, and cousins were sorted into a random assortment of all four. Lennox, on the other hand, had no expectations where she should be placed.

As it should be, the list of students began being called in alphabetical order. Just another instance that Lennox found herself in the proper place. She waited for the students before her, before hearing her name.

Addison, Lennox

At least the professor pronounced her name right. It was not that difficult of a name after all, not like some of these fruity and hippy names she had heard previously. Lennox walked to the front of the group, bumping into a few students who stood in her way. She took a seat on the stool, the friendship necklace that she shared with Jade, around her neck. The rather old hat was placed on her head. Kind of gross they don't wash you between students She thought. It was almost like the idea of charity shops and used clothing. Gross. Lennox shuddered at that thought. Okay Hat, where am I going? Also, who will bring my bags? Last hotel I stayed in they brought it to the wrong room. Incompetent people. Lennox waited, not so patiently, for the hat to make its decision. She did not like someone else deciding for her, even more so that it was an inanimate object that had a say in her life.

"Where your bags are really shouldn't be your concern right now, this should be. Although this choice is rather simple, you do have an undeniable intelligence, but you are much better suited to...Slytherin,"

Penelope readjusted her hairclips for what seemed like the thousandth time since she stepped into the castle. It was just so overwhelming, and fussing with her hair had always been a nervous tick of hers. She was glad there were a lot of other first years around and that many of them seemed to be as impressed and stunned by their surroundings as she was. Penelope had known Hogwarts would be magical and incredible, but it was different really seeing it in front of her. The girl followed the other first-years to the Great Hall, where she immediately felt her face flush as she saw all the eyes aimed at them. There were so many students here, Penelope was sure she would never stand out. Somehow, it was a little comforting. The girl jumped a bit as the hat began to sing but quickly understood what was happening. She didn't like the idea of being sorted in front of everyone, but at least it wasn't just her. She impatiently waited for her turn, fidgeting a bit with her skirt. But when her name was finally called, she still jumped a bit. She hesitantly stepped forward and took a seat on the stool, ready to hear her fate.

"I see you have a lot on your mind, but this will be over soon enough. This is relatively simple for you, you have a desire for friendship and this is where you will surely find it....Hufflepuff,"

Emmanuel was very eager for this, he’d managed to contain most of his excitement in the train ride over, but it was all so new and so cool that he was struggling to contain it. He had read a good amount about the school, given that he was the first of his family to go along, and oh boy had it been a page turner. His family had all attended schools closer to home, and it was only because of his father’s work that he was in New Zealand but he welcomed the opportunity to strike out on his own and go to the school here. It just meant he knew he would learn things perhaps a little differently. It did also mean he was eager and unsure of what to expect from the school. It wouldn’t be too different from the stories he’d heard of other schools, after all a school was a school, it didn’t matter where that school was. He had poured over the Hogwarts a history book, one he knew was much more in reference to the other Hogwarts but this was a newer edition with some chapters on this newer school, which really wasn’t so new anymore. Emmanuel had just wanted to feel up to date.

Emmanuel now found himself in amongst lots of other students, he spotted a few familiar faces, Senna, Josh, Lizzie and Kyon, all people he’d met over the last sixth months of being in the area. He had been coming to the magical areas more and more to get used to it, and because he knew it was important for him to be doing things on his own, no matter how often he wanted to spend the time with his dad in his office, or listened to his mother’s most recent talk. He knew he would miss them dearly, they had always showered him with praise and attention and he’d never been apart from either longer than a week but now he was apart from them for a much longer period of time. He knew he would manage, since glancing about there were so many other kids who seemed to manage, but too because he wanted to do them proud and that meant managing.

The crowd of students was brought through the hall, and Emmanuel ended up lingering behind, glancing about the different walls, banners, students and tables, finding the room to be a very interesting place. He knew they would be sorted and knew it was by a hat, and knew there were four houses, but he wondered the flexibility of sitting amongst others. Whether he would be able to join other tables, or if it was rigid. But he reached the other students as the head mistress began speaking, welcoming and reminding apparently all of the students abut how forbidden the forest. He didn’t care for that, so much happier and eager for when the sorting hat began singing. He cheered loudly, louder than most of the other students appeared to, but a magical item like that was such a piece of magic it deserved to be cheered for. And as his book had said, what followed was the actual sorting.

Emmanuel knew he’d be fairly late on, so he watched a good number of the friends he had made go first. He watched them move to tables and he thought it was a rather thing to watch where each of the students before him went. Then he heard his own name. Emmanuel stepped forward confidently, having watched so many students go before him he was perfectly ready for this. He sat down and looked at the students in front of him. Good evening Mr Sorting Hat, it is a great honour to be sorted by you, he wasn’t sure if it would hear the thought but he made sure to greet him properly and tried to indicate a degree of warmth and sincerity with it too. But all there was left now was to be sorted.

"Good evening to you. You've got a lot going on up here, always thinking aren't you? And always thinking about helping others too. But it's the knowledge that's most important to you. I can see your parents have influenced you but you've gained an appreciation for it all. You'll thrive in...Ravenclaw!"

Veronique couldn't believe she had finally made it - all the hardwork to show her parents she could handle going to school so far away had worked. It had been a lot of chores and extra book reports and work in the greenhouse the last year, but it was worth it! The train ride had been quite an adventure, and while she was tired, the adrenaline was keeping her going as she looked around the Great Hall. There were candles everywhere! It was even better than her cousin had described. The lady in front talked at them, and absorbing most of the infromation, Veronique was quickly called to the front. Raising her eyebrows, she sat on the stool, finding her cousin in the crowd and just hoping, praying, that she was placed in Gryffindor. She had to be. Even if Elara didn't want her there, she knew once they were together, Elara would see how cool she actually could be.

"I can see what you seek, and really it would not be a bad place for you, but I think you will do much better, succeed much more in....Hufflepuff"

Nico was more tired than he meant to be, this wasn't the kind of situation one should be going into when they have the kind of insomnia he was currently experiencing. He had been finding it really hard to sleep when he was knowing he would be starting at a new school so soon and so he had bags under his eyes and was kind of trudging along in the kind of non-sensical way that sleep walking often afforded people. He wasn't actually sleep walking, but he was beginning to think that maybe that would have been a good plan since he felt very tired, to the point that after all of this was over he was going to see if he could head straight to bed. It was so different being here than from his native wollongong and he really liked it, but he also missed his friends and family back home.

Still, he did want to get sorted and so he was really waiting for that. Hearing his name set him to scrambling up to where he could take a seat and wait for the hat to be placed on his head. He was interested to see what house he would get. He didn't really care, but he was endlessly curious more than he thought he would be.

"Hmm, well you certainly don't care, but aside from an interest in adventures, you certainly always do your own thing and part of that is an interest to just read sooo have fun in.....Ravenclaw,"

Avery may have read his new book on Hogwarts: A History but nothing prepared him for what he saw once they crossed the heavy oak doors to the great hall. Arthur and Rose had just graduated from this school and now it was his turn with Kyon. Calm, cool, and collected, Avery followed Kyon closely as they were ushered to the front of the hall. Soon enough, names were read off as each of them was sorted to their respective houses. Gryffindor like his dad, Ravenclaw like Ava. He wondered whether he would be in either of the houses, although, the thought of being in Hufflepuff or Slytherin also intrigued him. Yet, the strong yearning to be in Ravenclaw triumphed. Kyon beside him was already giddy to be sorted, too bad the names were called alphabetically. "Lockwood, Avery." Avery glanced at his twin before making his way to the front. He took his seat, sat straight, and did not even flinch at the touch of the hat. All he could think about was the size of the library he had heard so much about from Avaria which meant endless books to peruse. He had also asked Arthur about how the wizarding subjects were akin to muggle ones. He was even delighted to discover that Potions was very similar to muggle Science, something he was looking forward to. His eyes glanced at the hat when it spoke out, he was unsure if it was taking its time or it was listening to his thoughts.

"A very keen and curious mind here, a certain degree of bravery too, that shouldn't be discounted, but above everything else, is that mind and for it....Ravenclaw,"

Birdie was awestruck. The stars, clouds, the whole roof was covered in the night sky that mimicked the one at home. It felt like she was there, sitting on the grass and staring at the twinkling stars that filtered the black sea. But she wasn’t, which was clear when a child bumped into her, forcing her to walk along the gigantic tables that stretched the hall. Surrounded by children of her age would surely ease her, yet the only thing that gave her comfort was the sky. Or the roof. She still didn’t understand it, magic.

As the headmaster spoke, she dazed away. Gazing at the stars again, occasionally looking around the bizarre room and the candles. She can’t remember the last time she lit a candle, probably the last time there was a power outage at home. She didn’t think that was common around here.

“Atwood, Birdie.”

Sitting on the stool, she looked through the sea of faces that she would come to recognise. And the hat was placed on her head.

"You are an adventurous one. There's no better place for you than Gryffindor!"

Sir Hiss, was like, slithering up his arm when Fredo entered the Great Hall with the rest of his peers. Fredo petted the small corn snake on it's head, quietly hissing at his little companion. If he could speak parselmouth, he'd tell Sir Hiss where they were going and what was happening next. Also, tell his little companion not to get lost, the castle was massive. Fredo could see himself getting lost, that means he had to keep a better eye out on Sir Hiss. Sir Hiss wiggled his tongue, licking Fredo gingerly on the thumb. "Don't worry, Lina here. We'll both look after you," Fredo would say turning his face over to where Lina was seated. Although he doubts she'll be of any help with Sir Hiss, Fredo waves at his sister. Lina returns the wave, then directs Fredo towards the stool. Maybe she will be of help. "Okay, here goes nothing," he casually steps up to the stool and sat down when his name was called. It has yet to hit him that for the next seven years Hogwarts will be home. To him it felt like he was visiting on some trip to a very old museum, when does the part he was staying here for the school year kicks in?

"You don't like to stand out but I hope you learn to in your home for the next seven years. Better be Hufflepuff!"

Rory had heard so much about Hogwarts from both of his parents but nothing had prepared him to see the castle on the approach. It was a breathtaking sight and words hadn't done it justice. Waiting with the other first years was a nerve-wracking experience despite the fact Rory didn't care all that much which house he ended up in. They were eventually allowed into the Great hall but it was some time before it was Rory's turn to be sorted. Eventually, his name was called out by the headmistress and he stepped up to the stool and had the sorting hat placed on his head.

"You've got a good mind and an interest in learning. There's no other place for you but...Ravenclaw!"

James walked closer to sorting hut and he asked his thought that he wanted be a partnof ravenclaw house and he wanted be with Sabrina. His family was very inportant to him and he hoped be Ravenclaw. "James, Wagner" He told hat with a smile.

"Ravenclaw? Let's see. No that wouldn't suit you at all. You're a...Slytherin!"

Adam stood there with the rest of his fellow classmates, ready to be sorted into their respective houses. His mother had mentioned that half of the current generation Maxwell studied at the same castle where he stood right now. As his Aunt Alexis as well who was in the Ravenclaw Quidditch team and a Prefect. He didn't have a problem with it, as long as the people who knows them wouldn't associate him with his family. Adam was already tired of hearing them and he thought he could get away from them by going to this school.

The group started to file in two single lines and entering the Great Hall, Adam looked around, not recognizing anyone from his clan. Until he looked straight in front, oh! crap! Really? he thought to himself. No, he didn't recognized any from the students table but at the faculty, yes, one. Adam grumbled under his breath as the sorting began, clapping when needed. When it was his turn, he made sure to make an eye contact with the hat and nobody else. He sat on the stool, the hat placed upon his head. The boy didn't mind the house, he just wanted to belong into something that he made rather than his status.

"There is the side of you that craves adventure and the side that craves knowledge. Which is stronger? I know...Ravenclaw!"

Somjai was very excited once they touched down inside the castle. She had meet his cousin on the train journey coming here and had to separate due to the fact Naomi was already a student here and was sorted. While Somjai was only a new student and hadn't had been sorted. Her parents and brothers weren't alumni of Hogwarts in New Zealand, rather they all went at Mahoutokoro in Japan. The girl had to relay at Naomi to know about the sorting. She sighed just admiring the Entrance hall of the castle where on the side it goes to the moving staircase "Nī̀ mạn h̄elụ̄xcheụ̄̀x māk! (This is so incredible!)" She said enthusiastically to no one her Thai accent strong.

As the group moved on and came inside the said Great Hall, she felt her jaw hanged as the view of the ornate Great Hall came into view. She'd seen very magnificent ornate Buddhist temples, she could say the Great Hall lines with them. Somjai was busy looking around that she didn't noticed the line had stopped and she collided at the person in front of her. "K̄hxthos̄ʹ c̄hạn k̄hxthos̄ʹ (Apologies, I'm sorry.)" Somjai had to apologise in a Thai fashion called Wai, where she has to make the prayer hand and bow. Thankfully, the person in front of her was kind enough to brush it off.

The sorting was on its way when they paid their attention back up front. She clapped excitedly for the people who had been sorted already. The Thai girl didn't have any preference on the houses, she would be okay getting sorted with her cousin in Hufflepuff. The person who she bump into was called and Somjai was surprised that he has the same last name as Naomi. Her eyes widen, he looks cute though she thought and happily cheered when he got his house. "Wu, Somjai!" called the Headmistress. She almost yelp but compost her features and walked to the front, sat on the stool and the hat was placed on her head gently. Phracêā thuk s̄āytā mxng mā thī̀ c̄hạn (God, all these eyes looking at me). Oh! heck! I should start talking in English it's not like they'll judge my accent or anything. Omg! would they? Are there judgmental students here? Somjai was starting to worry.

She knows English; to read, write and speak but with speaking comes with her strong Thai accent. Her parents didn't mind the accent but other people did, specially foreigners that comes and visits them. Somjai didn't want to cry, she just thought that there will be a magic to rid of her accent and she'll be fine.

"There are all types of students here at Hogwarts New Zealand. I would know, I've sorted them all. So don't be scared. You'll find your people in due time. First, I have to sort you so you can begin. Now let me take a look. You've got all of the right traits for...Hufflepuff!"

She had no clue what to expect when she arrived at the castle, but her head was already overflowing with information. The castle was absolutely enormous and she wasn't used to being around a lot of unknown people. At home she knew everyone in their little community, each farm, each house and each person that lived there. Now she had already seen so many new faces and it was quiet a lot to take in. It wasn't like she was scared, she was just extremely shy and overwhelmed. Currently she was trying to hide in her luscious locks, in the front a little hole that resembled somewhat of a dark cave entrance.

She didn't want to be seen and since she couldn't hide in the walls this was the second best thing. Why was there such a big ceremony, why couldn't they just go to a room and get it over with. Lily didn't care about her future house, she would try to make it a home for the next seven years. Now she had to stand in a group of other newcomers. She couldn't blend in and she hadn't met any of the other upcoming first years. She only wanted to hide and not be in the center of attention.

In her community everyone was equally important. If her parents didn't grow food no one could eat, but her family needed wood for the fireplace. So the woodcutter was as important as they were. Now she felt singled out, it was an odd feeling she wasn't used to. Soon the whole thing started and names were called out left and right. The group around her grew smaller and each time she wished she could disappear. She had the feeling all eyes were on her. She couldn't shake it off and with her nerves growing she almost missed her name getting called.

''Morrow, Lillian'' She slowly walked towards the stool and felt the soft fabric of the hat placed on her head.

"There you go. You'll only be the center of attention for a few seconds while I take a look. It's important I get this right though. Which I know I will. For you, it's going to be...Ravenclaw!"

Sloane had done her best to look presentable for the sorting ceremony, although she was t entirely sure what it would entail. There was only so many times you could hear about a talking hat before you had to see it for yourself. It was like something pulled straight out of a book. The blonde hurried along with her classmates and audibly gasped when she entered the Great Hall. It was magnificent and she was convinced that every time she turned her head another direction there was something new there that her eyes had missed the first time.

Sloane was too busy looking around to notice the first time that her name had been called, but someone must have nudged her as she glanced to the front to see the stool and hat waiting for her to take a seat. She grinned excitedly, hoping it wouldn’t feel too strange to have something animated balancing on her noggin, and took to the stage. Turning to see the sea of students watching her, she realised she knew very little about any of the houses at all. She supposed she is was in a good position with her family, for they were just proud she was magical at all, and there was no pressure to be anything while she was at Hogwarts. On the train she’d heard students talking about which house they wanted to be in, although Sloane was trying to get her head around the benefit of each, if there even was one. “I’m ready,” she gave a firm nod to the professor, and waited to see where she was placed.

"Logical. An interest in learning. You know which house you're going to be in right? Ravenclaw!"

Pearl had been surprised that her father would send her to school. She'd never gone to a school before, had never really been outside of her local area. She had never needed to, her dad was always home and he always taught her everything. She had been surprised to be sent to school, and too surprised to try and do anything about it. So, here she now found herself, in amongst of group of people from all over the place to be sorted. She wasn't that eager to spend time with some of them, they just seemed boring, and others looked interesting. Pearl had always thought that school could be fun, there were so many people to interact with so many stories she could tell about herself. But time would tell as to where she might end up with it. Pearl had never thought she was coming to this school, so she had never bothered to learn about it, she truly was coming into this blind, she also didn't go to another school, so it wasn't like she had anything to compare it.

Pearl followed the class, making sure she was right up front. The headmistress spoke, giving a very interesting speech about what they weren't allowed to do, and then a hat began singing. She was a little impressed, she was sure that her dad could do better, both in hat creation and singing. But Pearl did listen along. The song eventually came to an end and the names were called. She thought it was simply unfair that so many people when before her, her father was the worst for his surname being Parra, she should complain to him, get him to change the name to Aara or something, though of course it was too late now. She'd certainly pretend in her first letter to him that she had been invited to go first. But eventually Pearl's name was called. She stepped forward proudly, holding her head high and marched with purpose to the stool. Pearl felt the hat be placed on her head and forced a falsely polite greeting to the hat.

"You know how to seek out and use your resources well. You'll surely develop this skill and more as a...Slytherin!"

Bryan's mouth had been hanging open for so long, he was getting a jaw-ache. This place was ridiculous. Only magic itself could have kept a world like this hidden from him for all his life. Well, magic, and apparently Bryan's dad, who had never even suggested that magic could make candles float, let alone bring the entire night sky indoors. Come to think of it, his dad had never done any magic in front of him. Bryan had always assumed that magic was purely mental, a sort of invisible, intangible force that silently manipulated the universe around him, but this was real. Even if it was an elaborate optical illusion, he could see it, and if he'd had a long enough ladder, he could have reached out and touched it. Why on earth would his dad live like a muggle when he could do all this?

"Duffy, Bryan."

An eternity had passed in the blink of an eye. Bryan climbed the stage and sat down. Somewhere in the sea of faces, he thought he saw Kate, but suddenly the brim of the sorting hat obscured his vision. It was heavier than he'd expected. He scrunched up his nose as he felt the thing moving by itself on his head, resisting the urge to shake it off. This was a bit too intimate for his liking!

"I'll be quick, don't you worry! Everything I need is there- adventurous, eager for fun, a touch of bravery... Gryffindor!"
