@Harper Alston vs @Brooke Townsend

This was it, they were finally down to the last couple of duels of the tournament and, honestly, Hiro was a little disappointed. But it had been a fun tournament to watch and he had enjoyed his time as a proctor. And now they were down to the finals things would hopefully continue to be rather interesting. "First of, congratulations on making it this far," he beamed at the two girls, "As you know, the winner of this will be crowned Sixth Year Champion, so let's make it a good one. You both know what you're doing by now. Good luck, have fun, and when you're ready, face your opponents and bow and you may begin."

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours from this to post your first reply, or face disqualification. Once both duelists have posted, you will have 24 hours from your opponents post to reply, or be disqualified. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. Please also remember site rules apply, including power/god modding. You can find the site rules here. Duels will run until there is a winner or until 6 IRL days have passed, in which case the winner will be chosen by RNG. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!

As an added note: Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels.

Harper was quiet as she stepped onto the platform for her last duel. Gone were all the feelings of nervousness, and in their place was a steady confidence that she hadn't experienced in quite some time. For the second year in a row, she'd reached the finals, which was an accomplishment in and of itself. But more importantly, she'd proven to herself that she was good at dueling, that she hadn't completely lost her competitiveness.

It had been years since she had last dueled Brooke, but from what Harper had heard, the Slytherin had managed a couple non-verbal spells in the last round. That could certainly make things more difficult, but Harper didn't mind the challenge. At the signal, she bowed and waved her wand around herself, once again cloaking herself in a Disillusionment Charm. The strategy had gotten her this far in the tournament; maybe it'd help her win the entire thing.

Brooke couldn't believe she'd finally finally made it to the actual tournament finals. One more match and she could finally have a title to back up what she'd always told herself; that she was competent, that she could do this just as well as Sydney always could. But she couldn't get ahead of herself, Brooke had lost to Harper before and she wasn't keen for a repeat.

Bowing, Brooke readied her wand, shield spell on the tip of her tongue that was quickly aborted when Harper promptly vanished. Adjusting course after a moment, given more time to think, Brooke cast a different spell instead. "Hominem Revelio!" Sure, she could try to attack Harper, the tell-tale shimmer that gave away something that had been disillusioned wouldn't be impossible to spot, but Brooke wanted every advantage she could.

Harper assumed that rumors of her strategy had spread by now. At the very least, she wouldn't have been surprised if Brooke had talked to her roommates before this round. So as soon as she'd cast her Disillusionment Charm, Harper took off down the platform, towards Brooke. There was really no way to block the Human-presence-revealing Spell (and she wasn't sure how far its range extended), so her best bet was to try and get close enough to startle Brooke when the marker did appear over her head.

Something swooped over her head, and Harper knew the Slytherin's charm had worked. She immediately cast "Incendio," moving her wand arm in a large sweeping motion in an attempt to increase the flames' reach.

Brooke couldn't hide her flinch as the spell revealed Harper a lot closer than she'd anticipated, just barely getting up a shield charm in time to block the flames Harper sent her way. She shook out her arm, glad to have the revelio spell making aiming easier for her as she launched a Stinging Hex towards her.

Though Brooke did seem a little startled, she acted quickly, fending off most of the flames with a shield. Brooke then shook out her arm, and Harper wondered if the Slytherin had been burned. She couldn't see any flames, but it would certainly be lucky if she had managed to injure her opponent's wand arm. Aware that the marker was likely still hovering over her head, Harper tried to angle her body so that she was a smaller target. The hex whizzed towards her, and she was forced to jump to the side. She then leveled her wand at Brooke. Harper didn't want to retreat, which meant she had to force her opponent back a bit. "Reducto."

Harper was still much too close for comfort, even more so when she shot a reductor curse Brooke's way. She stepped back, trying to clear ground and nearly losing her balance as the spell crashed against her shield just in time, blowing apart a chunk of the platform in front of her. Shaking her hair off her shoulder, Brooke shifted quickly, she didn't want to get hit by another spell like that and her usual strategy of trying to silence her opponent was risky now that some of their year was managing non-verbal spells. Deciding to keep it simple, Brooke countered with a hurried stunning spell.

Harper jumped a little as the curse sent a piece of platform flying towards her, even though it came nowhere close to actually hitting her. The Reductor Curse had only forced Brooke to take a single step back, a negligible distance in the grand scheme of things, but it still made Harper feel a little better. She did want to continue driving Brooke back, though. After dodging the stunning spell, Harper took a few more steps to the side and sent back a "Confringo." She was careful to aim for the platform under Brooke's feet and not the girl herself.

Brooke's footing was already unstable when Harper decided to blow another part of the platform out from under her. She tried to pull up a shield but stumbled as her foot caught on the uneven ground, gritting her teeth as it forced to stumble further back and out of the spell's blast radius. If she hadn't already marked Harper with the spell it'd be even harder to see through the debris clouding the platform. Off-balance, Brooke brought her arm across in a harsh slash, firing off a Diffindo charm towards Harper as she tried to regain her footing.

The explosion forced Brooke further back, and Harper started to relax — which turned out to be a mistake. Brooke had managed to fire off a spell even as she was trying to regain her balance, and something white-hot and sharp slashed across Harper's left shoulder and arm, causing her to cry out. She instinctively looked down but couldn't see anything. For the first time, she was starting to get an idea of the disadvantages her strategy.

Gingerly, Harper touched the wound, trying to assess how serious it was, and her hand came away wet. She could feel the blood running down her arm, and she watched in horror as droplets of blood started to appear as they dribbled off her fingertips. She needed fabric, something to stop the bleeding or at least conceal it, but she'd already lost her robes in a previous duel. Gritting her teeth, Harper tucked her arm into her side and wrapped her fingers in the hem of her shirt, hoping that would at least stop the blood from materializing and giving her position away. She had no idea how much blood she was losing, but she needed to end this duel sooner rather than later. Taking a few steps to the side, she pointed her wand at Brooke. "Incarcerous."

Due to time running out, RNG has decided that Harper Alston is the victor

Still trying to find her footing on the uneven platform, Brooke was shocked to see a flash of red dripping from where her spell indicated Harper must be. She must have landed a hit, she though, bringing her wand up to try and ready herself, hoping this might indicate a change in the swing of the duel. She was so close, she'd finally made it into the finals on her own steam and she just needed a few more solid spell hits, she was sure. It was hard to keep track of Harper though, blood or no blood and Brooke wasn't nearly ready when Harper's next spell was fired off. She brought her wand up, ready to try a non-verbal shield, but her foot snagged on the damaged platform, breaking her concentration as she tried to keep her balance, grimacing as she immediately felt the binds from Harper's spell wrap tightly around her body, pinning her arms tightly against her body, her wand still gripped tightly but useless as Professor Aoki called the duel.
