Y39 Duelling Match #8

Angel stretched as he stepped up to the duelling platform, motioning to the two students to join him at opposite ends before surveying the crowd. Content everyone looked ready, he addressed the gathered students. "Welcome to your first round of duelling, let's have a nice clean duel today. The victor will be able to continue on to the rest of the tournament, and the loser will sadly be eliminated. When you're ready, please bow to your opponent and begin!" He said with a flourish, letting the students get started.

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours from this to post your first reply, or face disqualification. Once both duelists have posted, you will have 24 hours from your opponents post to reply, or be disqualified. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. Duels will run until there is a winner or until 6 IRL days have passed, in which case the winner will be chosen by RNG. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!

As an added note: Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels.

Blait was excited for this tournament as she was pretty sure that there was no way she would lose this year. No. No way. She had to win, there was no other choice. "Oh, hey Harper! Haven't met you in a while, how are you?" Blair easily gave in for a light chit-chat when bowing and then shot a spell. "Muffliato!"

Harper was feeling good about the duelling tournament. She'd spent some time shoring up defensive skills, and she was hoping to finally make it past the second round this year. Her first duel would be a challenge since Blair was the one who had knocked her out last year, but at least now, she was familiar with the Hufflepuff's duelling style.

"I'm good, how are you?" she replied while bowing. Harper started to block Blair's spell before realizing that wasn't really necessary. Besides, she didn't know if it was even possible to block a charm like muffliato. A small buzz filled her ears. "Finite." Her ears cleared, though she wondered if the audience's ears were still buzzing. "I thought you wanted to chat?" she said before shooting back a jelly brain jinx.

Blair easily rolled her eyes amusedly. "Could be better, to be honest," Blair watched Harper's reaction to her spell and grinned at her answer. "Oh, I can read lips pretty well, don't worry about it." Silver easily blocked the spell before making a step forward. "Confundo!" Blair felt like she was at the top of the world. She didn't duel with Harper for the first time, she knew what she was doing this time. "Tell me how is your year going?" she tried to keep the conversation going.

Harper raised an eyebrow, wondering if Blair was confusing muffliato with silencio. That would certainly be helpful. The former was easy enough to deal with, the latter not so much. She blocked Blair's confusion charm and grimaced at the force of the spell. It felt strange not to move out of the way, but she'd been dodging spells as a crutch for far too long. "Stupefy!" Harper didn't mind chatting during a duel. It made the fights much more interesting, and she could sometimes distract her opponent. But she knew Blair wasn't as easily distracted as some of her past opponents, so she made sure she cast her spell before answering. "Pretty good, but hopefully it'll get even better soon." Ideally, now soon.

Blair easily blocked the spell again and lightly smiled at Harper's answer. Well, it was better than nothing. "Impedimentia!" Blair shot the spell agressively before calming down a bit to talk. "Oh, yeah, it probably will. Have you heard that I Made it to Quidditch team as an Alternate? Hope to get a real place on the team Next year," Silver easily shared with her plans, acting like she didn't have a duel going on.

Harper summoned a shield and waited impatiently as the jet of light seemed to take its sweet time colliding off the invisible barrier. Maybe she should have dodged. Then she could have returned fire quicker and maybe cut Blair off while she was talking. When she was sure the last of the attack had bounced away, Harper aimed. "Confundo!" Then a bit more quietly, "Congrats...?" Harper wondered if Blair had asked about her year just so she could brag about her Quidditch accomplishments. She was now very curious to know what Hunter and Tilly thought of their newest alternate.

Harper had been on the verge of dodging when she changed her mind at the last minute. And it was a good thing she did. A jet of flames was not nearly as easy to sidestep as a jet of light. "Protego." The stream of fire turned into a small wall of flames as it collided with Harper's shield before fizzling out. "Really any sport except — stupefy! — Quidditch." It was a bit of an exaggeration, but she did enjoy most of the muggle sports she'd tried. She wondered if duelling also counted as a sport.
