Ava King welcomed the students entering the Great Hall with a small smile. The holidays were incredibly busy for the new mom, but they had still flown by, and the Headmistress couldn't believe that it was time for another year of school to start. The Sorting Ceremony was something Ava loved attending, so she made sure the Hall looked immaculate. The roof was, as always, charmed, the stars twinkling high above the student's heads. The roaring fires on each end of the Hall kept the large room warm and homely, the candles flickering above the tables made the room even more magical.
Ava approached the podium, the chatter in the Hall quickly dying out. "Hello all, and welcome to another year at Hogwarts." Ava started off happily. "Welcome to all our new students, this will be your home for the next seven years - if you treat it well, it will treat you well. And welcome back to all our old students, it's great to see you all again!" Ava stated smiling warmly. "A reminder to all that the Forbidden Forest is strictly out of bounds, and any rule breakers will be punished." Her blue eyes studied the new faces in front of her, some looking nervous, some excited, others indifferent. "First years, when your name is called, please come and sit here," Ava started, gesturing to the stool "And I will place the Sorting Hat on your head. The Sorting Hat will decide where you will be staying for your school years. When it's made it's decision, you may go and sit with you new House." Ava smiled.

As stated in the Information about Sorting thread, you must fill out the sorting form entirely properly and fill in an RP as exemplified in the post. If your RP does not leave room for the sorting hat to sort you: you will not be sorted. If the sorting hat does not receive your sorting form: you will not be sorted. Follow instructions and: you will be sorted.

You can edit your post once you are sorted, but be sure that you only reply to this topic once and it is through the sorting form provided. Thank you.

It comes but once, but once each year,
When, I, the sorting hat appear.
I appear to sort the latest batch,
To look within and find a match.
To seek the person who does reside,
Beneath the skin, deep down inside.

Rest assured, I do take care,
To avoid mistakes and always be fair,
Because I know my duty is very great,
The decisions I make affecting fate.
So do not approach with a sense of fear,
Embarrassed when seated upon your rear.
And when I’m placed upon your head,
Your thoughts should not be full of dread.
Approach with confidence, pure and true,
Give me the chance to honour you.

Those who step forth brave with pride,
Likely in Gryffindor they will reside.
Fire and Lion, scarlet and gold,
A house of friends, strong and bold.

Hard working kids who value fair play,
May find that Hufflepuff is where they stay.
The Earth and Badger, yellow and black.
Loyalty and tolerance, keep them on track.

Creativity and intelligence will help some soar,
Above the rest to Ravenclaw’s door.
Air and Eagle, bronze and blue.
The wisdom to make dreams come true.

And finally those, resourceful and cunning,
Ambitious and powerful are in the running.
They’ll join the house of silver and green,
Where water and serpents stage the scene.

Now, one last thing, please take heed,
Here is some advice that you may need.
This school has grown in a short time,
So have mistakes and heinous crime.
A challenge to all present, to look within,
No matter the house I've placed you in.
To do your best and persevere,
To use your strengths and face your fear.

The time has come, no more delay,
I call you forth, come on, let's play

Merrill couldn't believe the day had finally come. It had been a summer of tension, and silence between her, and Rhys. Her older brother had not taken the news well when he learned that she wouldn't be attending school with him, and her parents refused to take sides. Rhys had even accused her of not really being a part of their family, and in a small part of heart heart Merrill almost agreed with him. She hated camping, and hiking, and combat practise. All she wanted was to make friends, and play, and go to school like all the other little girls. Now was finally her chance. She had taken the train their with Solomon, and stood beside him now. They had gotten off to a rocky start, but Merrill was happy to at least know someone. As the, rather pretty, head mistress introduced the sorting hat Merrill found herself reaching to grab Solomon's arm. She almost felt dizzy with excitement. The sorting hat sang its song, and finally it was time to call the new students up one by one. Merrill waited on baited breath for her name to be called. This was it. This hat would determine her fate for the next 7 years.

"Piper, Merrill!"

Merrill let out a long nervous sigh, and marched her way up to the stool. She balled, up her fists, and kept her eyes down. If she didn't look at the crowd they weren't their. She only looked up after the hat had been placed on her head, and sank down below her eyes. Well, what's it going to be?

[adminapproval=#11545036]Fawn had been read books and told stories by her father of the castle, but upon entering it she saw the gorgeous surroundings and simply lost her mind with an exploitative curiosity. The ginger haired woman touched the walls that she walked by and fought the urge to push on the paintings that moved and spoke to her. Sure magic had been in her life now for almost three years, but she was in no way adjusted to that. Being that her name began with a B there was hardly a wait for the impatient, never still wild-child. Fawn rushed up to the stool, uncaring that she may have pushed some people and looking between the hat and the person holding it, and then turning to face the crowd.

Fawn swallowed thickly and sat down, choosing to face away from the crowd when she did, causing the sorting hat to be sat down backwards on her. The child, though curious, could hardly form a sentence in her mind, overwhelmed by the sights, the sounds, and the smells. Finally after a moment of contemplative thought her might fell back to the forest. "I need something to get me home..." She thought, still fixated on Aokigahara being her home.

Anthony walked through the Great Hall, excitedly taking in all of the different aspects of the room as the first years were escorted to the Sorting Hat. He couldn't understand why they would leave something so important up to an old hat. He just shook his head, he figured that they would know what they were doing. He smiled to himself, and took his place at the front of the hall with the others. As all of their names began to be called, he anxiously waited for his own to be called.

"Jackson, Anthony."

Anthony made a small scared noise as he began to walk forward to the hat. He was scared, because he was endlessly curious which house would end up being his home. He took his seat, and the hat was placed on his head. This was it, this was his moment, and there was a lot to be considered with this decision. I sure hope you get this right, Hat, I don't want to be somewhere I shouldn't be. He thought.

Yiwen toyed with her own long tendrils, head down, as she entered the castle. She wanted to marvel at everything, but was pushed along by the group of students whom she was surrounded by. It was quite unnerving - Yiwen had always been with private tutors and now she was surrounded by hundreds of strangers. The piercing blue eyes that belonged to the soon to be first year wandered side to side for a moment once they entered the hall. Even more students sat there and for a moment Yiwen wished she'd remained home schooled. However she would never learn about muggles that way, so she had to be strong.

Name after name was called and finally, after what felt like hours, Yiwen heard her name. She nearly cringed at it - she was English but her name was almost as Posh as the name Gurtrude. It bothered her slightly that her parents named her one. With wobbling knees that nearly knocked together, the petite blonde moved up to the stool and sat down, proceeding to keep her head tilted downward to not make eye contact with someone. then she was shaded in the overwhelming darkness of the sorting hat. Her sister had said the sorting hat had told her all about why she was in hufflepuff when he called her house. So Yiwen thought to the hat, almost like a prayer. "Whereever you put me I know you'll have a good reason. I don't get what anyone would see in me for any of these houses - so... can you... help me understand?" After that she was silent and waiting.

Parker hears her name called out, she doesn't usually get nervous but waiting to be called made her break out in a slight sweat. She steps forward and shuffles between the students with an "excuse me" and walks directly towards the sorting hat. With a glimpse at the professor who gives a slight nod of the head, Parker proceeds to sit onto the stool with the sorting hat swiftly and gently placed on her head.

[adminapproval=11540613]In the short space of twenty-four hours, Elt had learned the following: humans were always in a hurry, just like goblins, only they were much bigger and quite a lot more polite; trains felt very, very strange to ride in; and two months of English lessons was absolutely nowhere near enough for a decent comprehension on the language. Actually, she'd learned many more things than this, but thinking about them made her mind boggle, so for the time being she focused on what was most important.

Currently, this was not getting trodden on. There was a decent chatter, only simple words of which Elt was able to pick out, and which seemed to be in a constant competition with itself, and an excited buzz about the castle lobby that was almost tangible. Sights. Smells. Tangible buzzes. Without a solid grasp on English, these were the senses Elt had to rely on. She'd never been in a castle before (or on a train, or up stairs), and the sheer vastness of it was overwhelming. Most of the students seemed surprised, or awestruck, but only one or two looked as completely blown away as the little brunette part goblin. It didn't feel like very long before they were ushered into the great hall, at which Elt was almost literally swept off her feet, both by the moving crowd and by the majestic brilliance of the place. Surely buildings as beautiful as these only existed in the imagination.

Somebody at the front began calling names, and Elt, who had no idea why everybody had two of them, squeezed forward to try to get a better look. When she found a solid wall of humans blocking her path, she sat down and peered between a pair of legs instead. So, when their names were called, they were sitting up on the stool, and then-

"Elt!"

She didn't have any more time to think about it. Hastily, she crawled between the legs and emerged happily the other side, almost seeming to waddle rather than walk to the stool in front of her. Its seat was about the same height as her head, but not allowing this to deter her, she started to climb it, realising only when she was half way up that her weight was pulling it over. Both stool and goblin fell to the floor with a clatter. Elt stood up, looked at the stool-on-its-side, decided it was now at a reasonable height for her, and sat down on the thin edge of the seat. Her smile now resumed, she waited for the hat to be lowered onto her head. The thing practically engulfed her, which she enjoyed so much that she giggled inside it. Who knew which house she belonged in? There was so much to see and so much to do that she wondered if it were really important at all. As long as she could stay here forever and ever, a house was really just a badge and a name.

Megan was filled with a quiet wonder that barely read on her stone expression. Her cold grey eyes scanned the walls of Hogwarts watching for anything out of the ordinary - such as the moving pictures. Trying hard to fit in and not look so shocked and amazing, Megan crossed her arms over her chest and shuffled into the hall that they'd be sorted at. She wasn't entirely sure what the point was - or how this even worked, but she knew it was important to go to school here in New Zealand. So she didn't argue when her name was one of the first called, and instead made her way with both confidence and cockiness in her stride. Her face remained still though, as she sat and waited for what the old, wrinkled hat might say.

Bren heard his name called from his place in the great hall. Years of waiting were now finally over. The moment that would define the next seven years was about to happen and he could not be more excited. While he hoped to be in hufflepuff like is Uncle Jayke, he knew that any of the four great houses would be cool to be sorted into. He did not mind either way so long as he got to go to Hogwarts and graduate he would be fine with any. Sprinting up to the stool he plopped down and waited until the hat was sorted on his head. He Fidgeted slightly in his seat as he was eager to get the sorting over so that he could finally become a full-fledge first year. His family had told him marvelous stories about the old sorting hat, which had prepared him slightly for what came next. He held his tongue though he could not help but rush the old hat in his head. Then the moment came when the hat had finally come to a decision. It did not take as long as some nor was it so easily determined as others. But it was a decision he was happy with regardless as he beamed and rushed over to the cheering table of housemates. He was now a true student of Hogwarts, like his father before him had been.

Riley Wespurt stood in the Great Hall of Hogwars School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, gazing at everything around him. Everything was pretty, hell, even the girls were pretty and he barely thought about girls. His jar dropped at the sight of the many students who were already sitting at their house tables. Hogwarts was big.. Bigger than he expected it to be. How the hell was he going to get around in this place? However, that thought quickly left his mind when he noticed that candles were lit in midair. Gazing again, Riley wondered how they do that and if it was something he was going to learn too, hopefully in his first year at the school. When his name was finally called out, ''Wespurt, Riley.'' he smiled. Smiled because he was finally getting sorted - something he had been waiting for ever since his parents give him his acceptance letter. Riley almost ran towards the stool in front of the Great Hall and took place on in once he stood close enough. As the Sorting Hat was places on him, Riley thought about which house he would like to be in while waiting for the talking hat to start talking.

Min-Ji spent the train ride to Hogwarts feeling on top of the world, and the boat ride across feeling very small. He hadn't spoken to anyone on the way and simply enjoyed the view, but now he was regretting that decision as he was standing amongst throngs of other first years with no one's hand to hold. Heck, it would have been properly embarrassing to grasp some stranger's hand with his, but he didn't much care thanks to the rumbly butterflies in his tummy. Min had never been in a hall so vast before, and the pressure of voices, the smell of food and the bellowing of the Sorting Hat were a bit not good, in his eyes.

While the first years moved slowly ever-onwards, he nearly tripped over the tiniest girl he'd ever seen in his life. "Merlin, I'm so sorry," he blustered, trying not to pet her like he would a startled dog, and now he couldn't breathe because she was the cutest thing he'd ever seen in his life. Min watched in awe as her name was called out ('Elt!' That was a name?) and she took the stool down in her efforts to get on top. He pressed his fist to his mouth and giggled with the rest of the school, but how could you not? She was so very dear, and he was a complete sucker for anything he found endearing. Now that he'd been distracted, he watched the rest of the ceremony with more interest, paying attention to the other young men and women and wondering which house would be his. There were whispers about one or the other, and which was better to be in, but it all seemed very relative, to him. His only hope was to be somewhere where he could make something of himself and find a few friends to be loyal to.

"Song, Min-Ji!"

Min nearly jumped out of his skin when his name was called. They were close to the end, of course, being at the 'S's, and he was hysterically confused for a moment as they'd addressed him as they would have in Korea. It was his cue to move, so he wobbled forward and did a little climbing, himself, to get up the stool and sit the hat over his eyes. Ahh, the moment of truth. He supposed that there was no reason to think or say anything spectacular, since apparently it was a mind reading hat and it could do that for itself. Min-Ji sat quietly and patiently, waiting for the hat's verdict. He tried not to shake and affixed a brave smile. Whatever happened, it was going to be alright.

Zara could only imagine all the adventures that could take place in a beauty like this.

The past day had been such a long trip, but that in itself was another, wasn't it? One without her parents that wasn't in the constraints of her own backyard or the park down the road. Yes, it was a very real, very tangible adventure that she just couldn't wait to continue. Zara knew her feet were bringing her forward, but the young girl felt very numb. Numbed from excitement, anticipation... Guilt. Guilt that she was able to witness the magic of the ceiling but her brother wasn't. She would have to write him as soon as possible; tonight if she got the chance. She knew he would love it as much as she did, even more if possible. Zara was all of a sudden regretful that she didn't have a camera with her, even if it would make her stand out. Because seriously, this ceiling was stunning; it was as if she was defying time and logic itself. Gosh, didn't every magical being do the same? They were all a matter of miracles, the castle she was standing in all the proof she needed. And it wasn't just any castle, it would be her freaking home for the next seven years.

It all felt too real. Too amazing, too dreamlike. Home wasn't this, it was her cool wooden floors and the smell of the ocean from the neighbouring beach. Could this really be her new life? Gosh, it was so much new territory... She wondered if anyone ever tried to map the thing. Surely there had to be a thousand and one different passages to take, different doors to enter, and fields to explore. But then again, magic, right? Zara felt as if she was a muggleborn, even if she had known of magic the entirety of her life. These regal hallways could do that to just about anybody, she was sure.

Ah yes, other human beings. A whole lot of magical folk pressed at her sides, mumbling to one another in faux boredom (faux, she was sure- at least if they were witnessing what she was) or jaws dropped in astonishment. She giggled at a girl who's mouth had literally gone slack, nodding to herself in appreciation for that appreciation. Same, she had thought to herself. Because honestly. Same.

Too soon, the walk was over and they were in the Great Hall or whatever it was called. Zara's head looked around, soaking in the faces all around her. Kids of all different ages, yet draped with very similar robes. Zara smiled as she recalled the feeling of the unfamiliar fabric that rubbed against the skin of her arms with every step. Something that would soon be familiar, she was sure. As for this ceiling, she hoped she never got used to it. All of a sudden, a pretty woman had called the attention of the students. Headmaster, Zara had figured, retracing the word in her mind. "Professor" and "Headmaster" was fairly different from anything she had previously experienced. At her elementary school, it was the norm to just call her teachers by their first names. Something about breaking barriers between teachers and students, she remembered. Well, "Professor" sounded cooler anyway.

In the time her mind wandered, Zara had lost track of what the woman was saying, but was quickly called back in to reality when a hat started singing. Well, that was a new one. She bobbed her head with its song, clapping once it finished. "Quite talented for a hat, don't ye think? Wonder how long that took to came up with," Zara whispered over to a student close to her, not really minding if they gave a response or not. All she could think of now were the houses that the hat had rhymed off; she wasn't too knowledgeable about any of them. Her father had gone to Beauxbatons, and her mother was a muggle. She was a first in the family, which in itself was a first for herself... Er, sorting, sorting.

One by one the students were called. Zara enjoyed watching her new classmates up there, trying to remember as many as she could. No more dwelling about the houses; she wouldn't be able to do much about it and they all sounded great anyway. So she whispered the called names to herself as they went up, trying to get as best of a glance at their faces as she did. Zara was absolutely terrible with names, she knew, so she might as well get a head start as the chance presented itself. She laughed as a young... goblin? made her way up, stopping herself from awwing at the adorableness. Zara scolded herself; they were the same age and she didn't want to be patronizing. But she did, however, wish to become friends!

"Lovette, Zara!"

My, didn't that throw her off guard! Was it her time already? How many faces did she miss! The young witch made her way through the crowd of first years in front of her, mumbling her "pardon me"s all the while as he did so. Her mother would have a hissy fit if she ever forgot her manners. And then she was at the stool and sitting, humming to herself calmly as the hat was placed on her head. Or at least, as calmly as she could. She was so excited! What adventure would this hat open the door up to next?

“Twist, Anathema” spoke the Professor
‘We can do this.’ Said the little voice in her head, he’d been there since she’d picked up a book in a strange little bookshop and to her knowledge didn’t feel like leaving – something to do with being bound to the carrier of the book or some rot – but he was very useful in times like this. ’Breath! We’re not passing out. Not now, not here. I refuse to let us pass out’. Slight tremors as the only sign of nervousness Ana took her place on the stool. She’d not make a fool of herself here especially after the voice had told her how important it was to make a good impression on their housemates. She didn’t particularly mind where she went although the voice had placed its bets, though where he wouldn’t say.
The professor placed the hat on her head.

Zoe had a lot going for her right now. As a Katsaros, she had a lot to live up to. With two older brothers, each in different houses, and now an older sister as well, she would have to make her own path. Zoe was more or less more like her brother, Zared, but knew that the two of them would not get along as well because Zoe actually cared if something happened to someone. She just did not often show it. Zoe walked beside of her twin, not smiling in the least bit. The last thing she wanted right now was to be too eager for something like this. It was just sorting. Sorting into houses which could possibly separate her from her siblings for seven long years, until Kalila comes along and is possibly sorted with her. It is possible that some of them would be sorted into the same houses, but Zoe did not see them at all into the same ones. All were very different. Zoe folded her hands in front of her, and lowered her eyes. How could she even think of things like that when she should be concerned with her own fate? Her schooling was on the line right now.

“Katsaros, Zoe!” The name was called, and Zoe slowly made her way to the front. She hated it when people were looking at her. Zoe sat down on the podium and felt the hat perch on her head of brown hair. She closed those purple eyes and hoped for the best, while praying that everyone in the room right now was not looking at her. She could not handle such things. It was too much attention for the young girl. Zoe just wanted this all to be done with, so that she could join her classmates and do something a little more worthwhile than waiting in line, and riding on the train. She could get started on her life and this was the key.

Hunter stood with the rest of the people behind the double big oak doors, he arrange his tie again whilst his sister already did back at the train station. Hunter was glad his sister agreed to change school, at least he has someone who he already knows. As the doors opened and the others fell into two straight lines, Hunter did so too. They started to enter the vast Great Hall, the boy looked around for his sister and found her looking at him with a small smile. He smiled back and looked back in front of him before tripping to someone as they stopped in front of a stool and a big old hat.

A gorgeous lady was also in front and she said a nice welcoming for them to the old students, though, reminding them about a forest was intriguing. What is inside that forest? he thought but Hunter ignore it and was best to not do anything mischievous. The lady then did a roll call and one by one, alphabetically, the people called went up to her and sat at a stool with that old hat. It burst out whatever house it chooses and when it ended with the A's, his name was called out. "Baird, Hunter!" Hunter walked in front and sat at the stool. He could smell the hat's past as it was placed on his head, hello, hat! he talked to it like it was his friend. Lovely to meet you, I hope you'll be nice while picking my house Hunter continued but stopped when he noticed everyone was staring. Instead of being a talkative boy, he let the hat decide his fate.

Though Zenia had clutched at her sisters arm during the journey over to the castle, now that they were there, she was pointing and talking about everything she could see. The young girl couldn't understand how her twin was not as excited as she was, there was so much to see, and actually seeing Hogwarts was much better than just reading about it and looking at pictures. Zenia gabbled on quietly talking to her twin about what they could see, as if Zoe was blind, but fell silent, her body buzzing with excitement as they stood in front of the Headmistress and sorting hat. Zenia hoped with all her heart that she'd be in the same house as her twin, but knew that that might not be the case. She'd ask the hat, if Zoe could be placed in the same House, as she got to go before her sister because 'e' was before 'o', which Zenia often told Zoe.
Finally, when the young girl's name was called, she squeezed her twin sister's hand before moving towards the front, feeling nervous but the excitement was a bigger feeling. Seven years she'd spend with this house! Her purple eyes landed on her sister before the hat covered it, but she gave her a huge smile anyway, hoping she was feeling okay. In her mind, Zenia asked the hat if they could be in the same house. Zenia didn't mind what house she was in, she'd prefer not climbing all the stairs, or hiding in the dungeons, but she'd go anywhere with her twin.

Anabelle couldn't tell if the butterflies in her stomach were from nerves or excitement. She didn't know anyone there, she wished that her older sister was at this school. Anabelle was incredibly glad her parents let her travel all the way to New Zealand and attend the school here, but she was already beginning to feel homesick. Still, there wasn't any way she was going to attend Beauxbatons. She would be happy here, she was sure of it. Anabelle walked into what they called the Great Hall, and tried to remember as much as she could so she could write to her sister and tell her all about what HNZ was like. Anabelle tried to flatten her hair, she didn't want to have sticky-up-y pieces especially if she was going to be in front of the whole school; how embarrassing. Though, she knew she had to try and stop thinking that way, she was on the other side of the earth for a reason, to find out who she was without having to look perfect all the time; without trying to be perfect. However, as her name was called, near the end as 'W's usually were, she was distracted from looking around the hall, and she quickly patted her clothes, so she at least looked presentable. Anabelle glided to the front, sitting on the stool, a smile on her face as she awaited her fate.

<SIZE size="50"><FONT font="georiga">Noemie Vanity couldn't believe that she was finally beginning school, from what she had read about this particular school, she was going to have to first be sorted, a thing which didn't happen in the school her mother had attended, since houses in schools were a very english manner of doing things, it was historically the joining together of different school colleges which had given schools houses for students to be placed in and this had spread according to what she'd read to other schools, meaning that most schools within england had houses of some kind though not always based on personality, and had been included in the original Hogwarts and therefore made sense for such a thing to also be included in the new sister school that she was currently walking through the halls of. The brunette had put a lot of effort into how she was appearing to her fellow students, she hadn't wanted to do much besides wear her uniform correctly, but when she had read more and more and realised that the sorting ceremony would be conducted in front of the entire school, teaching staff in all, she had decided to put in a little bit of effort into her appearance, the young girl's uniform was perfectly fitted, the white shirt tucked into her knee length skirt. Noemie wasn't the type who usually took so much time on her appearance, but today felt like the kind of day to do so, and she had pulled her hair out the ponytail and brushed it out, letting it cascade over her shoulders and let her fringe slightly cover her face. The new first year glanced about at the fellow students, taking it all in, the intention to write home to her brother about every little detail and fact that she could gather from her time at the school would, she knew greatly interested her little brother. It was however not really the thing that Noemie knew she should be thinking about as the group of students entered the Great Hall, which was called the Great hall, because it was the main room of the school, where the most of amount of things would collectively happen, it had nothing to do with the way the hall looked but mostly entirely to do with the rooms use and just the size of it.

Noemie stopped with the rest of her fellow students at the front of the room, where in front of them sat a sorting hat that she'd seen pictures of and the girl glanced up at the professor who would be doing the sorting, a woman she knew from reading up about the people of the school, and she had to greatly respect the woman who continued to manage a school even after her husband's brutal murder. The young girl however just focused on the professor and what she was saying rather than the information that Noemie knew about her, she then let her eyes shift to the stool with the hat that came to life and began singing his song, she hadn't managed to find out why the sorting hat sang a song, none of the books that she'd read ever seemed to be able to tell her why, but she knew that it was important to pay attention to the hat and what it was singing. Though the girl tried her hardest to pay attention to what the hat was saying she couldn't focus on what the hat was saying at all, knowing that soon she'd be sorted, but that given her surname she was going to be one of the few left, had she had her father's name then she would've been on of the first but she wasn't and just had to applaud loudly for each of the people who went up before her and got sorted into one of the four houses, and the students slowly dwindled down. Each person pushing their way forward and sitting down on the stool, waiting a few moments and then managing to get sorted. Noemie didn't mind where she ended up, from what she'd read she knew she could suit any of them, and she just knew that no matter where she might end up, she'd be fine. Noemie brushed one side of her fringe away from her eyes and then looked about the small group still left, they'd just entered the names with T and she knew that she would be pretty close. The girl brushed her skirt down with her hands, and then,

Vanity, Noemie

Noemie had to be pretty pleased that at the very least the woman didn't say her full name, the girl didn't have to push her way through the crowd in the slightest, since there were very few left and instead easily made her way up to the front and sat down on the stool, she knew to clear her head, and let the hat figure out what he needed without her thoughts interfering, she took a moment to look about the hall, and a little self consciously brushed her fringe behind her ears.

Lucas looked on in amusement at his fellow sortees as they looked nervously up at the doors to the Great hall. They were waiting to be escorted inside to begin their sorting ceremony and the looks of terror on some of their faces were better than comedy. Lucas didn't understand why people took which house they got into seriously, it was based on you as a person or whatever, stressing five minutes before going inside wasn't going to change a lifetime of decisions. The sorting hat's decision had already been made for some of these kids. For that reason Lucas was relaxed. Maybe he would be in Slytherin like his cousin James was, maybe he would end up in Ravenclaw like his mother, though he would highly doubt it. He didn't care, which ever house he was sorted into would be gaining a legend and that was all that mattered.

When the doors were opened and they were led inside some of the reactions around him made it hard for Lucas to stifle a laugh. It was as if not getting into your house of choice was the end of the world. Maybe for some kids family traditions would either be continued or ended but that would be the extent of it. They would still be at the same school, the same classes, learn from the same teachers. all the same people would be available to befriend, Lucas really didn't see the difference. For him, the only difference was which Quidditch team he would try out for, if he had a preference it would be to be sorted into the house with the most recently graduated players. He sighed, before he knew it they were at the front of the hall and the sorting had begun, Lucas knew he had a long wait ahead of him but he would revel in seeing the looks of terror at kids as they sat on the stool, the shock and disappointment when they ended up in Hufflepuff instead of Gryffindor or Ravenclaw. Though he did smile when one kid who really wanted Gryffindor got it, he wasn't completely heartless after all. Finally, with nothing more than one or two people around, Lucas was called. It was the moment of truth. Which team would he play for? Who was getting a legend?

Elizabeth Wespurt stood in the Great Hall of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. She lost her brother Riley already, because Elizabeth wanted to see every detail of the castle. When they were guided to the Great Hall, Elizabeth already sneaked into some halls. Before she even noticed it she lost the group, but at the end she found them again. So here she stood waiting until someone called her name. Elizabeth looked at the students next to her, somebody looked nervous. Elizabeth just wanted to get on with it, she hoped that her brother and her would be sorted into the same house. That would be a hell of a party! When her name was finally called out, ''Wespurt, Elizabeth.'' she smiled. It was finally time to be a official student of Hogwarts New Zealand. As the Sorting Hat was placed on her, she thought about all the adventures she was going to have.

Hayden was a little nervous. He didn't like being nervous, it was unusual for him but there was an expectation that at least one of the Lavish children would be sorted into Ravenclaw like every magical child had on their fathers side for as far back as anyone could remember, as the eldest the pressure was on Hayden to be that one. Personally he wasn't bothered where he ended up, he was confident he could achieve everything he wanted no matter what house he was sorted into. He stood along with the other first years and listened to them discuss their hopes about where they will end up. Hayden was too nervous to talk to any of them.

Ignoring everyone else, Hayden walked into the Great hall and down all the way to the front and waited for the Professor to begin the sorting ceremony. One by one students were called up to the stool and had the hat placed on their head. Hayden watched as students went before him and were sorted, some were happy and some were not. But soon it was his turn, "Lavish, Hayden," Hayden looked around at the students at his side and made his way up to the stool and waited to see his fate.

Apollo clutched Artemis' hand tightly as they sailed across the lake towards the castle looming anead of him. Of course he had done his research and had some idea of what was awaiting them inside, and he hurriedly muttered what he could remember to his sister, taking comfort in both her presence and the reassuring way that she seemed just as nervous as he was: after all, if she was nervous, then Apollo had every right to be too! As they approached the end of the lake, water began to splash into the boat a bit more from the spray off the rocks, and he shivered as the cold water touched his ankle. As the boat banged against the side, Apollo stepped out, his hand still gripping his sister's hand, not wanting to part from her ever, particularly in such a strange and new place as Hogwarts. He looked around him at the darkness - the train journey had been long, and from what he had read, there was a feast to begin after the sorting took place. Looking foward to the anonymity that that would entail, Apollo followed the line of soon-to-be first years as they walked through the grounds towards the castle, with what sounded like a storm brewing behind him.

Upon entering the Great Hall, Apollo stared in wonder at the spectacular setting. The book his father had given him about Hogwarts had barely touched on what it actually looked like, and so the bright colours and the noise stunned him. He knew he would get used to it over time, but at that moment, he was slightly overwhelmed. Shrinking back behind Artemis, he glanced around at the different tables. He recognised Ravenclaw with the distinctive blue colour scheme, seemingly more subdued than the other three house tables, as well as Gryffindor and the Snake house, although he couldn't remember its name. He also recognised the yellow colour from the description, but although they seemed to be smiling the most, he couldn't recall that name either. Sighing, he would have to consult the book later to check up on them; it would not do to not even know the names of the houses. As the Professor at the end of the Hall began to speak, Apollo noticed that the students mostly fell silent deferentially, although it seemed a couple of them decided to speak over her. Frowning at their arrogance, Apollo began to listen to what was said. After the speech, people began to be called up to try on the hat and be sorted. Apollo shuddered, completely unsure on whether he would be able to complete it. Sadly, his name was one of the first, and he hadn't even had the opportunity to watch his sister be sorted too. As his name was called, Apollo stepped forward hesitantly, slightly unsure at first.

"Adams, Apollo"

With only a slight stumble, he eventually made it to the chair, and he sat down heavily, anxiously waiting for the result to be announced so he no longer had to be the centre of attention. As the warm hat was placed on his head, Apollo felt uncomfortable and slightly giddy with expectation. He desperately hoped the hat would choose right, but he guessed that perhaps Ravenclaw would be most suitable for him after all he had read. Certainly that name had stuck in his head best - maybe that was a sign from the gods! He had to stifle a laugh at that: given that his namesake was a god of prophecy, the very fact that he had absolutely no clue where he was going to end up seemed ironic in the extreme. And thus he waited.

[color=000]Alaska didn't know how to feel. On one hand she was overwhelmingly nervous, and the other slightly annoyed. The American couldn't believe just how many students were here, and she wasn't even in the hall yet. Tightening her ponytail, the girl shifted around trying to not get in the way. Alaska wished she could've been sorted somewhere private, the embarassment of actually being placed in front of everyone made her feel faint. Although, for a few moments everyone would be looking at her and would know her name. That was appealing enough for the girl to stay where she was. Sighing, the blonde pushed her way to the edge of the clump, wanting a bit more space.

Once the doors opened, Alaska instinctively started walking towards the Great Hall. Everything was so amazing, from the sheer size of the hall, to all the students and teachers sitting; it was a lot of noise but, Alaska could handle it for now. Her parents wouldn't tell the girl anything about Ilvermorny, but Alaska was convinced it was different that this. She looked around, everything was so different than her home in America. The blonde automatically stiffened when a ratty old hat started singing, Alaska hadn't even noticed the headmistress had spoken. A light blush tinted Alaska's cheeks, she didn't realize the sorting hat was an actual hat.

Waterhouse, Alaska

The girl sighed. She was one of the last ones left, which didn't bother her too much. Straightening her skirt, the girl walked at sat down. Alaska rolled her eyes when the hat sat under her eyebrows, I look so stupid, why is the hat so big? her internal dialogue rambling.

"You belong in...SLYTHERIN!"

As she finally set foot in the Great Hall Ainsley's first thought was sheer wonder, entering such a magical place and knowing that she could call it home now was a feeling Ainsley had only ever dreamed of.

Her second thought was another wave of shock over parting with her mother.

Never in her life had Ainsley been parted from her mother for as long as she had already today, and it was going to be MONTHS before the next holiday. Months. For the life of her, she couldn't understand why her mother couldn't come to the school too. Or a wizard could come and teach her at home! That would be perfect! She would show the wizard all her favourite parts of the bush around their house, and maybe even take them to her secret wizard's grove. It would be perfect. And mum could come too. It wouldn't be so... loud, and crowded, and... like this.

Wrapped up in her thoughts Ainsley didn't realise the group of first years had come to a halt, and wandered into the back of the boy in front of her, bumping into him gently and almost falling over. Her eyes widened and she gasped, stepping back quickly, too struck with nerves to remember to apologise. Before it could turn into more of an incident, luckily, they were distracted by the beginning of the sorting ceremony.

Ainsley watched intently, hyperfocusing on the proceedings. The hat could read minds? She watched students trot up with varying degrees of nerves, have their future for the next seven years decided, and strut away cheerfully to their new families. This was... definitely not how she had pictured magic working. Things were just supposed to... happen. This level of... structure and organisation seemed decidedly at odds with the very nature of magic as she imagined it. Someone was holding a list of things, for pete's sakes!

In all her musings and wonderings, Ainsley had forgotten to pay attention to the names being called out until suddenly it was her own, ringing through the hall. Every thought she might have carried that she would stride confidently towards her new magical destiny dissolved and Ainsley froze, trembling hard and paralysed with fear. She knew it was her turn now, to approach this strange magical hat, and take her place in this strange magical world, but the actions needed to make that happened deserted her, feet forgetting how to walk, lungs forgetting how to breathe. It took her name being called a second time to snap Ainsley out of her frozen state, every movement of her legs on the walk up to the stool a conscious act of telling her muscles what they needed to do to transport her to where she needed to be. The effort it took to push through her fear and loneliness and uncertainty had Ainsley near tears as she took her spot on the stool, head trembling and thoughts racing wildly as the hat was placed on her head.
