The Sorting Ceremony

Nadia walked upto where the rest of the unsorted students were standing. She looked around in awe of what she could see. The Hall had been decorated especially for this occassion. She looked at the house tables and saw all the smiling faces of the older students waiting patiently to see who would join there ranks. She sighed as the names were called. Eventually it came to her. "Mckay, Nadia". Called the man with the scroll. She smiled slightly and walked up to the stool with the sorting hat. She sat down and the sorting hat was placed on her head. It started whispering in her ear, and she sighed inwardly, wishing this would all be over.

"RAVENCLAW!"

Ann was in the great hall with other unsorted students. Her sister was behind her oblivious on what she's feeling right now.Her name was called and she walked toward the stool. She sat and prayed that this will be over soon.As the hat was put on her head, she inhaled deeply, and listen as the hat told her ..

"HUFFLEPUFF!"

Lynn was standing behind Ann. She wasn't nervous nor excited. She just want this to be over. When her name was called, all the eyes were on her. She didn't mind. She looked back at her sister and rolled her eyes. What a waste of time, she thought. She sat on the stool and when the hat was put on her head, she screamed when it talked.

"Hmm... Calm down! I'm nothing to scream about. Now... you're a SLYTHERIN!"

Vlad walked into the grand room where everyone was sitting and talking. As he sat down next to his friends who he has just made the other day, he looked to the ceiling. The candles were flying, and he was having a grand time. this was one of the few times he had been truly happy in a while, so he was quite enjoying all of the excitement. When his name was called, all of the happiness went away as fast as a lightning bolt as his heart fell to the bottom of his chest. He stood up, and his his head under his dark black bangs. HE sat down on the chair in front of everyone. He heated all this attention. "Oh Mr. Sorting Hat Sir, I am really better than everyone says.... please look into my heart of hearts... I need some one to see I'm not all dark and depression..."

"I can see exactly what you are... and, perhaps, who you will be. That future lies in HUFFLEPUFF!"

Princess walked with her cousin Margarette and their fellow students to the great hall. They stood in front of several professors, a man and a stool beside him with the Sorting Hat on top. Her cousin was called and her name had quickly followed, "Lipayon, Princess" said the man. She walked slowly but confidently to the stool and sat on it, as the man was putting the Sorting Hat gently above her head. "It's an honor to have you on my head, sir. I know you will put me in the house where I belong." she said and she waited for the Sorting Hat to say its decision.

"RAVENCLAW!"

"Cole Dylan Vladimir!"

Dylan looked at the sorting hat calmly. His brother was already sitting with the Gryffindors. Dylan would have wished for himself to be sorted to Gryffindor, but it was not his thing. Of course he wanted to be with his identical twin brother, but the sorting hat would know the best anyways. And Dylan was sure he could keep up wherever he's to be sorted.

When he sat down and the hat was placed on his head, he waited patiently for the final word.

"GRYFFINDOR!"

Aldrich came in the great hall with all the first years who awaited their turn to be sorted. He noticed that many were nervous and scared but he felt very excited. He was giddy and was jumpy and so he went nearer even though people were lined up. Many got mad, ignored him but he still continued. Then he heard his name so he just proceeded and eagerly sat and put on the hat. He said, "You're so smelly, oh well. I'm ready!"

"Smelly? You've things to learn. You can learn them in HUFFLEPUFF!"

Koboshi looked around at all the unsorted students in front of her. She wasn't nervous but she was unsure. Her cousin had been sorted into Slytherin, and thats what she wants to be. She sighs lightly from boredom and waits rather impatiently for her name to be called.

"Aiko, Koboshi"

She smiled happily from having to wait and sauntered up to the stool. The hat was placed on her head and she wait. The hat was placed on her head and she waited impatiently.
"Yes hello mister hat, keep in mind that my parents are VERY rich when you sort me please" She stated when the hat started to speak to her.

"Oddly enough, the wealth of your parents has nothing to do with any house you might be put in. Regardless, you are a SLYTHERIN!"

Victoria walked into a large, handsome, stone hall the size of a cathedral. Her heart was pumping now. The eyes of the older students burnt into her. She walked until the stream of people aprehensively making their way to the front had gathered into a small crowd at the base of some small stone steps which led up to where the staff dauntingly eyed the children from their oak dining tables. A woman weaing emerald robes unravelled the large scroll in her hand, and as she started to call out names, the crowed thinned. A runty boy with scruffy, black hair, whom Victoria recognised as the one she locked eyes with at the King's Cross station that very morning, moved to the front as the serious-looking woman with the scroll called the name, "Fotter, Barry". A bubble of anger seemed to burst inside her, suddenly, at the sound of the name, and then was lost. The hat rested on his head for a surprisingly long time, before bellowing, "Griffindore!" to a cheering crowd. She knew where she wanted to be now. She had her eyes on the prize. She would sorted into Griffindore-it was the only way to get close to him. Lost in thought, she jumped slightly when she heard the cold voice say "Lumely, Victoria". 'Griffindore, Griffindore, Griffindore' she thought as she made her way up the small stone steps to the stool. She inhaled sharply as she turned to face the crowd, as she swore there were not this amount of people when she had walked in; all eyes staring intentively at her. Then she felt the shabby hat which smelled slightly of musk touch the top of her hair, as dark as night...

"Gryffindor? Hmm. No, you're far too ambitious for yourself. Always putting your needs ahead of other's. Not necessarily a bad thing, but definitely not Gryffindor material. You're a SLYTHERIN!"

Ana entered the great hall full of sheer exctiement. She had dreamed
of this moment for so long and she was happy that it had finally came.
Approaching the stool at the far end she stood amongst the other
nervous first years. Listening quietly she waited impatiently for her
name to be called, day dreaming she looked around absorbing the sights
she saw, "Garcia, Ana" she heard being shaken out of her ponderings
and she stepped up slowly, suddenly nervous. The sortinghat was place
on her head and she waited for the answer she wanted so badly "Please
Hufflepuff!" she thought desperately.

"Hufflepuff? No, no. You're friendly, sure! But you enjoy adventure far more than you give yourself credit for. Bravery runs through your veins! You're a GRYFFINDOR!"

Annalie stepped into the great hall and gasped, it was even better
than Aimee had described it. Looking around her eyes as wide as dinner
plates she made her way slowly up to the sorting hat. She couldn't
believe she was finally here, after a year of waiting she had made it.
Listening intently she couldn't wait for her name to be called she
couldn't wait to start her education in the magical arts that she had
longed for. "Darkhart, Annalie." she heard and she blushed as she
stepped up and the sorting hat was place on her head she instantly
began thinking about the house she didn't want to be in "Not
slytherin!" she thought "Please Ravenclaw." she waited and listened to
the hats answer...

"Of course it's RAVENCLAW!"

Dekota entered the hall close to Tora's side she wanted to stick by
her sister and make sure she didn't make a fool of her self. Her
thoughts swirled aound her silent world and she stopped to stare at
the amazing sight around her. The crowed behind her pushed her on and
she made her way up towards the stool and hat. Absorbed in the veiw
she didn't focus on the professors lips and missed him say her name
"Dekota Pewertt". Tora nudging her she realised it was her turn.
Stepping up she put the hat on "I don't mind as long as i'm with my
twin, I'm deaf and I need her." she found herself thinking and she
waited and watched as Tora signed her the answer...

"Well, I'm not sure where your sister will go yet, but you belong in HUFFLEPUFF!"

Tora entered the great hall with her sister in toe and she looked
around, pulling off her thick lensed glasses she gave them a wipe and
put them back on. The magnificant site in front of her was still
there. Convinced she was dreaming she pinched herself. She couldn't
believe that she was really standing in the great hall of Hogwarts New
Zealand she had been dreaming of this moment for mothes. As the group
surged forward she watched her sister being sorted, signed her the
answer and waited patiently for her name to be called. "Pewertt, Tora"
she heard and she grinned from ear to ear. Making her way up she sat
down and the sorting hat was placed on her head. Breathing deeply she
thoguht "Please put me with my sister!" she thought her fingers
crossed that she got the answer she wanted.

"Your sister will learn to support herself, and make plenty of friends to help her as well. You don't belong in that house. You're a SLYTHERIN!"

"No. Absolutely not. Brenna will not go to this "wizarding school"! She will ruin the family name!" An aunt shrieked. Memories of the earlier conversation fluttered through Brenna's mind. The decision about Hogwarts was not an easy one, and a lot of Brenna's family had participated. "It is the child's decision, we cannot force her to stay. Brenna Deyanira Athanasia Marise," The Elder addressed her, using her formal name, as was custom. "What do you choose?"

It had been the biggest decision of her life, and Brenna was beginning to regret her choice. Seven years were a long time. Leaving the Dunayevskaya home meant that you could never return. Brenna knew this, and she hated herself for being so stubborn. So stubborn that she would not listen to her sisters and cousins when they told her not to leave. So stubborn that she pretended not to care when all her possessions that she could not take to Hogwarts were thrown into the fire and destroyed.

Brenna already missed her home. Home was such a strange word. Now this castle was to be her home. She could feel tears spring to her eyes as she thought of her old life. No![/b] That Brenna no longer existed. Her new life was very different from her old one. She had new parents now, foster parents. She had a new life story, and all of it was a lie. Brenna was used to lies though, and she was sure she could pretend to be a normal eleven year old girl.

Brenna watched the eager students pushing forwards, wondering why they didn't just walk in an orderly line. People always rushed around, and Brenna simply didn't understand it. Everyone always had to be first. Brenna didn't see things that way, even though the rest of her family did. At the sight of her fellow students' happy faces, a hint of a smile appeared on her pale face, though it was gone in a heartbeat. Brenna rarely smiled, so when she did it was a momentous occasion.

Brenna entered the Great Hall, pretending to be unaware of her surroundings. Her eyes were staring straight ahead, and she ignored the chattering of the other first years, intent of listening for her name. Brenna heard her name, and she began walking purposely forward. "Hello, sir." she greeted the hat as it was placed on her head. She wondered if 'sir' was the best title for the hat, as she wasn't exactly sure whether it was male or female. "I know little of the house system, so I trust you shall put me wherever I belong." Brenna said to the sorting hat, and waited patiently for the hat's response.

"Trust. That's a refreshing change. Hmmm... well, you like to look out for yourself as much as you can, with your own ambitions chief in your mind... so that's Slytherin... but at the same time you're quite compassionate... which is perhaps not Slytherin. I suppose it's what suits you best... yes... SLYTHERIN!"

Kali bounced on her heels in excitement as she waited and watched other people being sorted. She wondered where she would be put. The hat intrigued her, it was obviously charmed or magicified (Her own word) in some way. It could talk and, some how, see inside peoples' mind to sort them. It was fascinating.

Eventually it was her turn to walk up to the little stool and have the large hat placed on her head. Hello, you are fascinating, you really are. I'll let you do your job now. She thought to the hat. Hopefully her theory about it reading minds was correct. She would love to mind meld with a hat. Especially one who knew so much, it must have been on so many peoples' heads, in so many minds. She really did wonder how much it knew.

Kali was pulled out of her thoughts' by the hats' voice loud and clear in her mind. She wasn't sure if the room could hear it as well, it sounded so clear as it spoke.

"Eager to learn, I see. Let's try you in RAVENCLAW!"

Harriet stood with her sandy blonde at the front of the crowd of to-be-first years. She smiled nervously at some of them, before turning to the side and talking to herself, "It's okay, keep calm. Just relax" she put on a brave face as one of the professors walked over to collect them. She was carried along with the crowd, through the center of the tables in the great hall, and came to a halt at the foot of some stairs. "Harriet Griffin" she heard her name being called. Closing her eyes briefly in fear, she took her seat on the stool.

"You're a GRYFFINDOR!"

Keitaro Higuchi was contemplating the hall he now stood in. Large, seemingly well built. He was sure it had been built by wizards rather than muggles. The entire bulding smelled of the magic it held. Keitaro was smiling to himself, a rare thing smile from this young boy. He was free from his parents. He would impress them. Show them his worth and that he was just as smart as the two of them. Keitaro knew just by looking around the entrance hall of Hogwarts New Zealand that this school was going to be his for the takings. He would be best wizard to pass the doors. He'd be the guy who people could go do if they had any form of question. Keitaro would be to go to guy. But Kei was thinking ahead. There was still a lot of time before he was able to establish himself as the super smart one. Keitaro smiled to himself. Thinkingof the future was not something that scared him, like he was sure it did to most. Keitaro knew that all his dreams would come true.

The black haired boy looked round to his cousins. All the same age. All ready for education. He had no clue as to which houses they wanted. Kei had kept what he wanted a secret but Keitaro knew that they knew. They weren't stupid. Kei was the eldest of all the cousins, and though he wanted his future to benperfect he cared deeply for his younger cousins and would also help them if they needed him in achieving there dreams. Keitaro smiled at rah cousin as they caught his eye. The entire group of first years were slowly ever growing more impatient. Some weren't and then others seemed facinated by the entire hall. Kei was both impatient and in awe of the entrance hall. He knew he would be blown away by the Great Hall, it had the word Great in it. How would it not. Kei at that point noticed the door to the Great Hall open and small buzz of excitment washed over the first year class. Keitaro smiled and walked.

The first thing that kei noticed was a table of students wearing the blue emblem on there chest. Keitaro smiled at the large group. Blue suited him so well as well. Kei looked up to the roof and smiled. He took no more notice of the hall. Simply perfect that was all that it was. No other school could compare in amazing to this school. He joined the group of first years standing at the foot of the hall, a hat. Odd. He had heard that something sung but surely not. When it did kei was amazed. Simply in awe. He wished in that moment that in his school years if he could achieve anything it would be to make something like a singing hat. The magic that must have been used would defeat any computer to made in the muggle world for at least 300 years. The singing stopped and roll call began. Keitaro couldn't wait. He stood and waited patiently. Clapped politely as student after student was sorted. It was as the names reached closer to his. That he began to feel himself sweat. What if he wasn't in fact smart enouh for the smart house. He had to be there. But then again Kei knew that he had slytherin traits. He knew it. And hufflepuff traits. What would his dad think? His mum?

Higuchi, Keitaro

Kei took a moment to realise what happened. He stood stuck on the spot for a few seconds before he walked forward to the stool. Kei took a seat and looked out to the hall. Ravenclaw. Ravenclaw. Ravenclaw. Ravenclaw. His mind repeated. Kei told his mind to be quiet so the hat could make the decision. The hat was lowered onto his head and Kei waited every second feelin like a life time and his heart beatting so hard that he felt helpless and weak. No smarts would help him until the hat made it's decision.

"As you wish. RAVENCLAW!"

Ellie smiled. Not only was this the most exciting day of her life, she was the center of attention. It wasn't really surprising - Her hair was a whiteish blonde, how she always had it, and her face was smothered in make-up. Ellie laughed. If she had been at home, her mum definately would not have approved.
She moved the thought of her mum to the back of her mind. If anything could ruin this day, it would be her mum.
As another name was called up, Ellie sighed impatiently. Her eyes were glued together every time she blinked, but she didn't care. After a while, you got used to it.

'Fury, Ellie.'

Ellie jumped up. All eyes were on her, and she grinned excitedly. As she paced down the great hall, she was proud of herself. She was pretty, funny, smart, but always got her own way.
Ellie sat on the stool, and moved her fringe out of the way as the hat was placed on her head. She was sure she could think of a sly comment if the sorting hat said something that would embarass her.

'Slytherin... Slytherin.' She chanted, aware the sorting hat could hear her, but not caring.

"Slytherin? No, no. You're not that ambitious at all. Nope, Helga would take you. HUFFLEPUFF!"

Andrea stepped nervously through the huge doors of the Great Hall. Her movement was shaky, and her complexion was pale. She straightened her cloak collar with trembling fingers. It had felt alright at Obsidian Harbour, but now it seemed uncomfortably tight. All of her garments did. And it seemed unusually hot in here. Switching from New York to New Zealand had been quite the change of climate, but she had gotten used to it after a while. But now, it felt just as hot as it had when she'd first stepped out of her grandparents' fireplace. She twitched a flyaway out of her face.

The professor called the names of the students who were to be sorted, as the alphabet ticked down toward M, her heart pounded harder and faster. 'It's okay,' she told herself over and over again. 'It won't be Slytherin. It can't be Slytherin. You are NOT a Slytherin. Dad said that you haven't got a Slytherin bone in your body, so chill.' Somehow, the mantra 'not a Slytherin, not a Slytherin' failed to calm her nerves. There was always that niggling fear, that little needle of doubt going slowly deeper, wriggling from side to side to deepen the hole. What if she'd misjudged herself? What if she wasn't really who she thought she was? She tried to push these thoughts out of her mind.

Finally, after what seemed an eternity, the professor read out the name, "McKinley, Andrea." Andrea took a deep, shuddering breath, and walked unsteadily over to the stool. She sat down, and accepted the hat from the professor. Dark fabric covered her eyes as the hat slid over her head.

"Your father is right. Perhaps, now and then, you do a thing or two that Slytherins make habit of - but you're no Slytherin. Quite the opposite, in fact. From what I see you've got a future set in GRYFFINDOR!"

Pablo felt the nervous vibes of many upcoming first years. But he was not nervous at all, he awaited the the sorting with excitement. While getting lined up by a professor, he saw a smaller boy who was extremely frightened. He approached the boy and said, "Don't worry! It won't be bad! You can overcome it." But the boy just stared. He continued, "As a Romantique, I'm expected to be Gryffindor! I want to be a Gryffindor, it brings honor and bravery!" He was about to say another monologue but someone yelled "Romantique, Pablo." So he marched up to the stool with his chest out and chin up high.

He approached the hat and said, "I'm ready hat! I will be a Gryffindor, I'm pretty sure!"

"Gryffindor doesn't bring honour of bravery. You're best suited, as you are, for HUFFLEPUFF!"

Adrienne knew it was already that time of the year. That time that everyone was waiting for.The sorting ceremony. Adrienne got up as early as she could because of excitement. Then her name was called."Brown,Adrienne" she stood up and sat on the chair. She closed her eyes and just listened to what the hat has to say.

"RAVENCLAW!"

Benny looked at his black converses underneath the long flowing cloaks of Hogwarts and sighed. He didn't know that he wanted to be here, but shrugged that off. He gazed up and caught his cousin's eye, then looked down again and bit back a smile. He knew his family were rooting for him. Benny was the first of Tess's children to find their way to Hogwarts New Zealand, Riley and Olive having been at Beauxbatons. But as a part of the family's move to New Zealand, he had to begin his scholastic career here, with his cousin. The hat finished it's song and Benny fiddled with his hand, suddenly immersed in the fingernail of his thumb on the left hand.

The names were down to the 'i's now. Benny began to daydream, wondering which house he'd get. He stood next to his 'friends', although Benny hardly knew the group he was pleased to have someone familiar there to stand by. Finally, the man called his name. "Lillis, Benny." the voice called firmly. Benny stepped out, closer to the crowd of students watching him and paused a moment. It's just like a grading, he reminded himself, and continued to the three legged stool, nerves overcoming him he sat down with shaking knees. It seemed ridiculous for Benny to be this nervous, the normally confident boy mused as the hat closed over his head. He took a deep breath. "So, hey there. Mr Hat? Uh, what do I call you? Aroha told me you could talk. I didn't believe her, but then I suppose it's magic, anything can happen. Oh I dunno. Am I confusing you? I confuse me a lot. I probably need a break, but I'm almost at black stripe and don't want to stop. Ugh I cannot believe I am talking to a HAT. Uh, no offence hat. I must look stupid sitting up here with the hat on my head. 'cept I suppose everyone's used to this. When does this ceremony end? It's a little boring, I could be using this time to train. Oooh I almost forgot. I want to be a Gryffindor, Mr Hat. With Aroha, so I can look after her. Did you know she's sick? Mummy told me to look after her.." Benny's thoughts trailed off as he realized the hat wanted to speak. "Sorry," he thought, blushing pink as the hat opened it's mouth, finally able to speak.

"Shut it, boy. You're supposed to be wise and you drone on. I'm busy. Do you see how many first years there are to sort? Do you intend to help with that? No, I don't suppose so. That's my job. So hush, and go sit with RAVENCLAW!"

'Kira Williamson!' When Kira finally hears her name as she was near the end because of 'W', she placed her trademark small smirk on her face and walked down the short corridor, wearing green heels with her robe. She didn't really care if she got in trouble for wearing heels, besides, where did it say that they weren't allowed? That was going to be her excuse. When she passed the Slytherin table, she smiled slightly at her older sister Jessica Williamson and stepped up to the chair where the sorting hat was. She couldn't believe that she had to put on a hat that lots of other people had been wearing earlier. What if someone had nits? Hadn't anyone thought of that?

Shuddering slightly at the thought of nits, she picked up the hat disdainfully and placed it on her head, using only two fingers. 'Look hat, please just put me where I belong.' She thought sarcastically, she couldn't believe that she was talking to a hat of all things and that she had used the word please! She never used the word please. She was sure that she belonged in Slytherin, and she hoped that she was cunning enough for the hat to instantly see that she belonged in Slytherin and that everything would work out for her in the end.

"Please? That's all I do. Put people where they belong. So for you - SLYTHERIN!"

Daniel was still hanging on the filthy streets of Bleak street. Then he realized that it was already a day of sorting. He knows that there was a particular reason why he was sent to Hogwarts in the first place so he did not dare to miss the day of sorting. He went into the entrance hall and found that there were already a lot of students who were lined up to sorted.Daniel's mind kept on wandering again. He knew that these different people had their own stories that cannot be told just like Daniel. And at the middle of his thinking, his name was called.

"Grigori,Daniel" they called. Daniel walked normally towards the sorting hat. But while the hat was being put on his head an unexpected thing came about. The bad memories came in rolling just like an old movie. All the mocking stares came about again. It was like someone wanted him to suffer the torture over and over again. It was good that nobody can tell that he was not in his physical state already. He could see his friends faces again. They were telling something to him but he cannot understand what. Now he cannot fully understand what was happening. He also knew that the hat was saying a lot of things.Just before the sorting ceremony was over his body came back in his physical state. While the hat was talking, Daniel's mind was full of anger and grudge but aside from that, he was waiting for what other things the hat has to say.

"You could do well in a number of places. I see you've a family history in Slytherin? Might as well, then. SLYTHERIN!"

Ian was glad that it was already the sorting day it had been weeks since he was waiting for this moment to come. He dressed up hurriedly to be in his best condition during the sorting ceremony. He did look his best.

He knows that he could be versatile to anything that will be given to him and he is able to do anything that they would let him do. He was confident.
"Davies,Ian" the sorting staff called.
"At last!I'm next" Ian said excitedly. He went to the sorting hat and listened to the words that the hat was saying. He just smiled whatever the results would end up to.

"RAVENCLAW!"
