"Brand new club, over here!" Ten suddenly called out, feeling as though she'd done enough preparation for that afternoon to finally start her advertising. While the club fair was running out on the courtyard, Ten had placed herself in the entrance hall in the hopes of catching students when they came inside. It was also conveniently close to the route students would take down the corridor if they were on their way to the dungeons towards a potions class, so she'd tried to have every aspect covered. "Come on, time for something fresh don't you think?" she told a small stray student as they wandered past her stall.

The stall wasn't very large, but Ten had still managed to display a cauldron with plenty of foliage decorating the table around it. They were things she'd been growing herself in the greenhouse, but they were also ingredients that were commonly found in the potions they'd brew over the years. There were enough people lingering nearby, trying to work out what she was doing, that Ten thought she may as well just break out into a discussion. "Don't you know how important it is to brew potions?" she asked to no one in particular, "Almost any career you go into will need it," that may have been a bit of stretch, but it was all part of the marketing.

The sixth year had a wad of cinnamon scented leaflets in her hand which quite frankly had taken her hours to handwrite each and every one, and for the sake of giving students more information she was handing them off to as many people as she could. "Stick your name down on this list and let me know if you want to be a brewmaster," she added, thrusting out another leaflet.

The Brew Crew

Welcome to the Brew Crew! The focus of this club is to help support students who either enjoy brewing potions, would like to be better at brewing potions, or to improve their knowledge and techniques of handling ingredients and recipes.

The leader of the Brew Crew is known as the High Brewmaster. They are responsible for events, meetings, and making sure that students are only brewing potions within their year group or lower.
Those that want to help other students with techniques, recipes or ingredients, or give advice to their peers, are known as Brewmasters. You can request to be a Brewmaster at any point but can still only brew and assist with potions in your year group and lower.

Throughout the year we will get together to discuss brewing techniques and how to handle, locate and use ingredients you'll often need to use for potions. Toward the end of the year, we'll have an event where students can choose a potion to brew, supervised by the older students and the school nurse.

Mania had excitedly been dragging her sister Gaia around the Club Fair today, she'd tried to get the first year to join all the clubs with her but so far had only managed to make sure Heta Omega didn't get another member out of her. Sorry presidents! She was now dragging the redhead around when she spotted another redhead, this one far older but still familiar to Mania. Without hesitation she dragged her pet snake (or sister) with her towards Ten.

"Ooh why hellooo, what's this?" The second year asked curiously, still keeping her sister by her side. When the older girl explained it was a potions club she felt Gaia's body turn fully to the older girl too with keen interest. "Yep! We are in, Mania and Gaia Athanasiou, Mania for second years and Gaia for first years. Obviously me a Gryffindor her a Slytherin, if that matters. Just me and my pet snake on a stroll to join some clubs!" Mania babbled on way more than necessary, he sister didn't even grumble an objection. Not that Nia would have expected her to, but the words the first year uttered did catch her by surprise.

Gaia hated today, no she despised today. For all her love for Mania the second year pain had dragged her out into the busy busy club fair. Merlin forbid a girl just wanted to spend the day in her own company, not a chance if you had Mania Athanasiou for a sister. The first year had reluctantly followed her sister around, albeit it was busy she couldn't deny some of the clubs were interesting to her. As Mania dragged her towards a redhead back into the castle from the courtyard, Gaia had half a mind to run away only her sister held onto her arm with an irongrip.

The Slytherin resisted the urge to roll her eyes and groan when Mania went and asked about whatever was going on, but as she heard the word potions her attention was fully on the older two girls. As Nia so kindly signed them both up without asking Gaia the first year surprised herself as she said, "I am in, not sure how much us first years can do but at the very least maybe I can watch you older ones at work?" She said hopefully. She sniffed the air a little, "Does it smell like cinnamon to you guys?" She asked looking at the two.

Lilith wasn't looking to join any more clubs at the moment, that was why she hadn't bothered with the club fair. However as she was walking through the entrance hall she noticed a stall. Odd weren't the clubs usually at the courtyard with the club fair? She walked closer and heard some talk about an unofficial potions club? She didn't say much just took a leaflet and read it through. "Hi, I'd like to join do I just write my name down on the list then? Also It says something about Brewmasters and their position to help those within and below their year group. I'd like to volunteer as one." The Ravenclaw said to the girl running the stall. Lilith felt like she got potions pretty well down so far so it wouldn't hurt to help out with the club in any way she could. It seemed like a useful club after all.

Susie had been pretty amused when she'd discovered the weird girl in the Apothecary was Amortentia Layton-King. She had heard of the girl, but she had never actually met her until she'd come on the Lagowski-Layton family camping trip. Uncle Monty's very distant niece, or something like that. In any case, it all made much more sense now. Ten wasn't just being weird to Susie - she was weird all the time. Once Susie had finished having a go at her for the cryptic bath bomb warning (the walls would never be the same colour again), and the girls had spent a bit of time together, chatting around the campfire, playing quidditch, Susie had started to take a liking to her. She was weird, but she was the good sort of weird, the kind of weird that made you wish you were weirder, because she made being weird look kind of cool, actually.

She was standing behind a stall, thrusting leaflets at people, when Susie came in from the courtyard. The Hufflepuff had been introducing her brother to the official clubs outside, and he still lurked behind her now, like a shadow. "Hi, Ten," said Susie. What was this? Some kind of potions club? Susie was no stranger to a bit of experimentation - as Lilith well knew. Susie grinned at her. This seemed right up their alley. "This is awesome. Can I join, too? Not as a Brewmaster. Unless you want me to teach people how to make stuff explode - I'm real good at that." She looked down (and back) at Freddie. In spite of Susie's keen encouragement, he'd been reluctant to join any of the other clubs. It would be good for him to get involved in one, she thought - he loved it when people gave him things to do, a bit of responsibility. He just had trouble fitting in. "This one?" she asked him quietly, giving him a nudge. "It'll be fun. I'll be there."

Jonah was anxious about the classes he was taking this year. Sure there were a lot of classes that he'd dropped, but most of those he'd kept involved practical work that he was very much not good at. This semester, he was quite worried about his workload because he really wanted to do well in CoMC but he also didn't want to fail the rest of his classes - Potions, Transfiguration, and Defense. All classes he was very bad at. He and Sayuri had been on their way to the Courtyard to support Hina-nee when he'd heard the commotion at the Entrance Hall, prompting him to check it out, his sister following behind him. It was Felix's sister who'd apparently decided to start a Potions club, which sounded like something he would need this semester. And so he tried to sneak past everyone to sign his name up.

@Ten Layton-King

Sayuri hadn't really planned to go to the Club Fair this year but her siblings - mainly Jonah, had decided to nag that all of them sign up for the Wild Patch to support Hinata. Which was just silly because everyone knew that more people just made their older sister even more anxious. And having a crowd signing up for Wild Patch had a chance of bringing more of a crowd that could possibly overwhelm the older girl. In fact, Sayuri would be surprised if Hinata wasn't a ball of anxiety and panic right about now. Though perhaps there was a chance she wouldn't be since Eli was there to help as far as she knew. Unfortunately for Sayuri though, she apparently couldn't just get this over with since Jonah had to be distracted by another thing. Her eyes narrowed at the apparent "Brew Crew". A Potions club by the looks of the decor. Sayuri couldn't deny that one would be useful for practice, but she had her doubts on this apparent club leader which almost made her stop Jonah if he hadn't already gotten away from her reach. "Are you even qualified to lead something like this?" Sayuri called out, arms crossed as she looked at the Gryffindor prefect. "And not that many careers need Potions so why the false advertising." Perhaps if the older girl had stuck to talking about practicing brewing, Sayuri would have been more keen to sign up, but she had become skeptical when the girl started to exaggerate.

Freddie hadn't decided he wasn't joining any clubs. He just needed a bit more time to think about it, that was all. The Brotherhood, Accio! and the Hogwarts Monthly all sounded OK, but they were full of older boys and girls who had been there for years and knew each other already. Freddie didn't know anybody - and yes, all right, the whole point of a club was to make friends, but that hadn't gone very well for Freddie in the past. The boys in the Green Club had been like brothers, according to Mrs. Gower, but Michael had tripped Freddie over on purpose and nobody had helped him get up again. Then Freddie had been kicked out for retaliating. He'd lost interest in clubs after that. His headmistress eventually managed to persuade him to join the math one, which was all right, but he'd hardly dared talk to anyone. It only ever seemed to get him into trouble.

A leaflet appeared in his hand. The Brew Crew. That did sound quite fun - and Susie would be there. But what if Ares joined, too? Or one of Ares' sisters? Or Chase? It was impossible to predict who might turn up. Freddie didn't want to start any more fights, he really didn't, but he would if he had to. That would embarrass Susie, and then he'd ruin a good thing for her, too. "I dunno," he mumbled. Potion-brewing... Would they let him brew something? Probably not, but maybe he could help prepare ingredients, or read out the recipes. There had to be something he could do. He'd still be helping, still be learning...

The boy opened his mouth again, but before he could say anything, somebody interrupted. Oh, no. He hadn't even joined yet, and people were already starting arguments. Maybe it was a sign.

Ten was glad to see Mania, since after all it had been finding the younger girl with her head in a cupboard that gave her the idea of the club in the first place. "It's a potions club!" She'd told her, "You know, for those that want to be better," she nudged, before glancing at Mania's sister. Ten knew that for the younger students it would be more limiting as to what they could learn, but the snake Slytherin was right. Ten also grinned as she was the first person to pick up on the smell of the leaflets, "Burning cinnamon is excellent for boosting energy," she told the younger girl, hoping she'd sign up to join them if not for her keen observational skills.

@Mania Athanasiou

Ten turned in time to see a slightly older girl approaching her, "yep, that's all you need to do!" There was already a good list forming but the sixth year was happy to hear that the girl wanted to help her when it came to giving advice to students. "What's your potion grade?" she asked the brunette, curiously. There was no requirement of course for those that could become Brewmasters, but it didn't hurt to ask.

@Lilith Ilves

Of all the people that had been at the family holiday, Susie being the one to join the club was a surprise. "Are you sure?" she asked the Hufflepuff, eyebrows raised in concern. She was right about not being a Brewmaster, although maybe Susie was here because she wanted to stop making a mess. It was a good job they planned to have the school nurse on site. Ten glanced to Freddie, who she'd not really had a chance to talk to on the trip as much as other people. The only person he seemed to hang out with was Monty. "You know, it will be cool, you can go home and tell Uncle Monty about the things you've done. He'd like that, he used to teach it after all," Ten shrugged, hoping it would be enough to sway Susie's younger brother into joining too.

@Susie Lagowski

There was always one, however, that tried to ruin it for other people. Ten looked up as she heard a girl asking if she was qualified, and it took the prefect a moment to consider whether or not she was joking. "Yes?" she said rhetorically, not expanding on the answer because frankly she didn't need to know her credentials. After working at the Apothecary over the summer, Ten was used to dealing with annoying children and this girl was no different. "Well, there's more career's than you'll ever need to worry yourself about," the Gryffindor smiled, deciding there and then this girl wasn't worth wasting her time on. Join or not, it didn't bother her. Clearly the younger girl didn't know the meaning of marketing, and she wasn't about to try and explain it.

@Sayuri Edogawa

As the sixth year decided to blank the rude girl, she looked across to the stand to see Jonah signing up for the club too. Ten knew her brother would be around soon, as the only person she'd mentioned the club to prior to today, so it would have been fun for Felix to have his friends around too. "Thanks Jonah," she grinned at the Hufflepuff, before turning to pick up another stack of leaflets from the stall.

Lilith flushed a little being asked about her grades, not because she was ashamed of them but nobody ever really asked about them and it felt odd though perhaps it was smart to know the grades of those looking to help others. "My Potions have been O in both my years so far." And she wasn't about to let them lower either, Lilith signed her name on the list before giving the older prefect a smile. "I look forward to the first club meeting thing." She said before leaving.

Mania smiled as Ten told her about it being a club for those wanting to get better at potions. It felt awfully considerate given the conversation they had shared last year, even if the club was just probably an idea the prefect had had for a bit even before said conversation. Mania wrote down her name and added Gaia's before giving a smile. "Thank you Ten, for putting this thing up. I truly think this might be the start of something good for a lot of students." Mania said quiet enough for only the redheads to hear, she didn't mind her sister or Ten hearing it but didn't want anyone else making assumptions of her own struggles with the subject. With that she let Gaia have her turn too.

Gaia gave a nod to the older girl, she'd have to keep that cinnamon trick in mind. "You wrote my name down too right?" She asked Mania who just nodded and then thanked the older girl, something giving her the impression there was more to the thank you than just a general thanks how considerate. Did this Ten girl know more about Mania? Gaia had heard all about the struggles and oh... That was it this must be the girl Nia had met on her sneaky expedition. She gave a smile to the prefect before walking away with her sister.

Susie should have been offended by Ten's expression, but there was no denying she was a bit of a liability. "I'll be careful," she promised. "I only blew up one potion last year - and it didn't take long for my eyebrows to grow back."

Oh! She had forgotten Monty taught potions. Well, if Freddie wasn't convinced now, he never would be. "Yeah! You wanted to write to him. You can tell him you joined the potions club." Susie left it at that, because encouraging her little brother to do anything usually had the inverse effect of ensuring he never did it. Sayuri probably wasn't helping much, either. Not everything had to be so serious. Couldn't they just have a bit of fun? Anyway, Ten was a Layton - most of them worked, or had at some time or another worked, with potions. It must have run in their blood. "I mean, if anyone's qualified..." Susie murmured, scribbling her name on the sign-up sheet. "There! Maybe I'll get an O this year, too."

Freddie hadn't forgotten Monty taught potions, but he had forgotten about wanting to write. Maybe he would turn out to be really, really good at it, and then he'd actually have something interesting to write about. Potions could be his new mathematics, his new guitar... OK, maybe that was taking it a bit far. Still, he couldn't avoid every club just because he was scared Ares would be there. That would make him a coward, and Freddie was not a coward.

"Gimme," he said, gesturing to the pen. Susie handed it to him, and he added his own name to the list in neat handwriting. "You're not gonna get an O." Freddie capped the pen and offered it back, grinning. "You might get an 'Oh dear'."

Wow! Susie gave Ten a look that said: See? This is what I have to put up with. She plucked the pen from her brother's hand and put it back on the table. "Yeah, well, you're gonna get an 'Oh-em-gee, Freddie, is that a potion, or did you throw up in your cauldron?'" She gave him a gentle push, partly because he was in the way, and partly because it made her feel better. "Bye, Ten."

Ares had already signed up to two classes while out in the courtyard, only to see there was another inside. Why was she inside when everyone else had to suffer out in the wind? The first year immediately laid eyes on the boy who'd punched him in the stomach, followed quickly by the redhead girl that he'd spoken to on a few occasions, although the latter seemed to be on her way out with her sister. Ares didn't need to be herded around by an older siblings unlike those two, honestly it was kind of pathetic how they seemed to trail after them. If they couldn't even join a club without their older sister's help, how were they going to manage once classes started?

The Gryffindor headed over toward the violent boy and the weird blazer girl, hoping there were enough people around that he wasn't about to go for round two. "Leaving so soon?" Ares hadn't come to fight, but it was hard not to say something when the opportunity presented itself so neatly in front of him. If this kid had signed up for this club - Ares still wasn't paying enough attention to it to know what it even was - then why shouldn't he join it too? Maybe he could press a few more of his buttons, just to see if he could. Ares glanced at the older blonde girl who he presumed was the boy's sister he'd so valiantly tried to defend recently, whether she knew it or not. Ares simply flicked his eyes down her height before returning his gaze to her face, and turning to pick up a pen.

Eoghan had actually dropped a club this year, rather than keeping those he was doing previously or gaining any new ones. He didn't think the SDA was for him, and despite Sayuri's attempt at telling him quitting was easy, it had been a tough decision on his part. After letting the club leader know, the blonde had come back inside from the courtyard, only to be met with a number of students milling around in the entrance hall instead. Realizing he was walking toward Lilith coming the opposite direction, he headed her way until after a moment they were face to face, "What's going on here?" he asked, taking her arm in his and practically guiding her back the way she'd come. He spotted Susie and Sayuri, although most of the other faces in the room were strangers. "What are they doing?" Lilith may not have been going this way initially but she certainly was now, as Eoghan moved closer to the gathering.

Lilith had had every means to leave, not too eager to be involved with a bunch of people when she was met with Eoghan, who seemingly had other ideas. "It's an unofficial potions club, I joined as some sort of a brewmaster too so I can help those in our year group and below with their potions." She explained as Eoghan changed her course back towards the crowd.

Freddie turned. His stomach dropped. No. No way Ares was here, no freaking way, there were like eight other clubs, proper clubs, good clubs - why this one? What did he want? Was he doing it on purpose? Just to annoy him? Freddie was about to call himself crazy, until he saw the Gryffindor's eyes flick down and up again. He wouldn't dare. He wouldn't dare say anything mean directly to Susie's face, right? Glare at him, glare at him, glare at him. I'll punch you again... Freddie wouldn't. I'll make it really hurt... He didn't want to hurt anyone. Don't look at her... He was sick of this.

And then Susie was steering him toward Lili and Eoghan, apparently oblivious to the shift in the air. What was he going to do? He couldn't leave the club now - he'd already told himself he'd be a coward if he did. Could he find Ares later, alone, and threaten to beat him up unless he left? Everyone always said violence wasn't the answer, but that was stupid. Punching Michael worked. Ares wasn't going to ruin this. He wasn't.

Freddie didn't realise he'd clenched his fists. He had gone very quiet.

As soon as Susie saw Lili heading back over with Eoghan, everybody else in the room disappeared. Hands still on Freddie's shoulders, she automatically steered him over to her friends. "Eoghan! Are you joining?" She had grown kind of fond of Eoghan. At first, she'd struggled to see what everyone else saw in him, but that seemed to be a her problem more than a him problem. Okay, maybe she'd been a bit jealous, too. He was just so clever. But she was over that now. She'd got some O's. She was clever too.

Finley had heard murmur about this thing, and honestly he was glad that Ten was getting back into potions again. He didn't know much about her history with potions, because he spent more time with Felix, he supposed, but he loved Ten too, so he wanted to support her in whatever she was doing. He'd spotted Mania heading over and followed her. "Hey Ten! I can join too, I have uh... pretty good grades in potions but getting even better grades is always a good thing, right?"

"I got an O in my OWLs if you want some help." Aura said, approaching the little potions get together. She appreciated potions, both as the daughter of a werewolf, and someone who wanted to work with potions and creatures in the future. She'd seen this girl in some of her classes, she obviously she wanted to get to know her a little better, anything to get her mind off the bloody thief she had to share a dorm with. "Is it alright if I join?"

@Ten Layton-King

"Then welcome aboard! Our very first Brewmaster." Ten grinned at Lilith, having read her name on the sign up list. She watched as the girl began to leave, only to be stopped by a boy who promptly came straight back with her. There seemed to be some question posed by Susie, and suddenly Ten realised the marketing was doing itself.

The sixth year turned to see Finley headed her way, "Hey Fin." Would he want to join? It would seem so. "It's not a bad idea no, but you could join for fun too even if improving grades isn't what you're trying to do," While the older students could certainly help and the practise would make them more prepared (one would hope) it didnt mean the club couldn't just be about brewing for fun, too.

As Aurora told her her grade, she blinked at the Slytherin and wondered whether she was telling her because she'd overheard her asking Lilith. "Of course you can join," she said, pointing her in the direction of the sign up sheet. "Are you signing up as a Brewmaster?" Ten thought it was better to check.
