TEAM BLUE - 40 POINTS
(Beater)

"No, I mean, I saw a duck!" Susie said, cackling. Then she actually saw a bludger, and swung hard.

Ten swooshed past Felix and Susie, headed toward Rudolf. She raised the quaffle above her head and threw it neatly, watching it sail smoothly into the hoop.

Monty WAS here, but this was still an accidental character-switch.

The embarrassing part was, Rudolf was actually trying now. Since when had the kids got better than him? He collected the quaffle and tossed it back out.

Felix's cheeks flushed with embarrassment when Susie called out about a real duck. She was just trying to distract him. He pushed forward and focused once more on the snitch, reaching out to grab it before Leda was even aware of what he was doing.

It was hard for Luke to focus on his own game when there was a much more interesting one going on on the field nearby. Freddie kept watching the big game too instead of his game, so Luke wasn't sure if his game was even worth playing if no one was watching. He did what he could to help the other little kids, but he knew it would have been more fun if he could join his eldest sibling in a real game.

Monty blew the whistle. "A marvellous performance there from Layton-King," he projected, as if he were commentating a cricket match. He had some time while the players got back into starting positions, and he was going to make the most of it. "Simply spectacular. And a beautiful evening for our game, too; the stars make such a delightful backdrop, don't they? I believe that is Cygnus up there behind the red seeker - or is it Aquila? Perhaps I should have paid more attention in astronomy." Everyone was back in place. Monty offered Freddie the whistle with a grin, but the boy shook his head. Ah. Too shy even for that. Monty sounded it again himself. The game resumed.

Leda unstuck the wet hair from her neck as Monty blew the whistle. Had Felix really managed to catch it, or had he pocketed an orange from the snack tents? The redhead flew back into position, keen to go again and prove that it was just a lunch hunch.

Rion made a mad dive for the quaffle and squeezed it under her arm. Her logic was, if she caught it first, she could pass it to Raylee when they got near the hoops, and she wouldn't have to try to score. What could go wrong?

Wendall was very glad that Felix had managed to catch the snitch, evening out the playing field a little. Once the game had restarted, the man flew in the direction of a bludger, smacking it hard and fast, aiming it straight for the blue team's seeker.

Susie had clearly used up all her luck in one go when she'd hit two people with a single bludger. All right, one of them had been a teammate, but it was so ridiculously unlikely that she had to consider it a win. She flew after Felix again. Was this considered bullying? Maybe. But focusing on taking him out seemed much more fun than playing properly.

Leda could see Susie flying after her nephew, and assuming that Felix had seen the snitch again she wasn't about to let him get it again. She raced after it once more, only to be hit in the back by a bludger. She peered over her shoulder to see Wendall, surprised he hadn't knocked himself off his own broom yet.

Eluned was right on Rion's tail. Right as the Ravenclaw raised her arm to pass the quaffle, Ned curved around her and snatched it. Maybe she should have gone a bit easier on her. She looked like she might be about to cry. It was only a game, right?

Ted was watching closely as Ned moved to intercept Rion's attempt at scoring a goal. She supposed that some people just didn't have it in them to play the part of a Chaser. The redhead stayed close to Ned, careful that someone else might try to grab it off her too.

Seriously? Well... Ray would probably have done the same thing. She'd just have to pass to Rion again later, when she got the quaffle back off that stupid little witch. Uh - not that she was getting competitive, or anything.

Everyone else seemed to be scrapping over the quaffle, and even Susie although she was behind him, didn't have any bludgers making her more useless than the Chasers. Felix raced after the snitch, grasping it between his fingers for the second time.

The whistle was getting some good exercise. "He's done it again!" Monty cried. "Layton-King - such splendid form, dashing like a comet across the night sky there, taking Team Red up to sixty points there and putting them, unless I have miscalculated, in the lead. Yes, my co-referee informs me the score is sixty-fifty to Team Red." Felix was going to regret asking Monty to blow more loudly for him. Once everyone was ready, he sounded the whistle once more.

Team Red weren't getting away with this. Ned caught the quaffle as it dropped back into play, nodding to Ten and zooming toward Rudolf's hoops. Maybe she should sign up for the school team next year. She was pretty good at this.

Felix grinned at Monty and his enthusiastic congratulations. He could only hope everyone felt the same way. Felix waved from his spot in the air, just in case there was an audience, before getting back into position.

Clearly, focusing on Felix was the right strategy; the boy was on fire. Susie rolled her eyes at Uncle Monty's commentary, though she couldn't help but giggle. He was even worse than Rudolf. Spotting a bludger, Susie dashed after it and swung with all her might. It headed for Wendall.

Wendall didn't see Susie hit a bludger in his direction until almost the very last moment. He turned, moving out of its way and immediately smacked it straight back to her, dropping his bat in the process.

There was something to be said about underestimating Wendall. The word was "Ow." Even a soft bludger hurt a bit when it hit straight in the nose.

Wendall felt a little bad when he managed to hit Susie straight in the face, although he couldn't hang around for too long. He flew to the floor, taking a moment to pick his bat up off the floor before remounting his broom.

Ned was nearly at the hoops. As she approached, she tossed the quaffle to Ten; the ball of light arced cleanly across the air toward her. Seriously good at this. Why had she never considered the team?
